My friends get so upset at people running new cards that I've now felt morally obligated to do it all the time.

Reposting esper combat matters (arna) after a few changes. My board wipes are on the way, I promise. I still need talismans slotted in. Opened and want to test saw, sheltered by ghosts, and enduring curiosity.

Any recommended cuts for talismans?
Do I then have enough artifacts, around 25, for etherium sculptor to be worth?
If I want to be attacking on 3/4/5, what density/curve of creatures do I need?
Would you put a sun titan here, and if so, over what?

Weirdly I have almost the exact opposite problem now.

>control tranny left earlier this year
>move into an adjacent pod

>doesn’t include any negates or recovery or any interaction with my board
>I think someone brought an exile ONCE
>all sit at the table whining about my board wipes and other removal

It’s bizarre to tell you the truth

I play Cavern of Souls. The only time I've managed to resolve my commander on curve in the past six months is if I had Cavern of Souls and a free interaction in hand. I'm not kidding when I say they ALWAYS hold removal for my commander on the turn I would play it. I would understand if I'm playing something like Kaalia, Korvold or Miirym, but I play shit like Mizzix and Henzie where they take a couple turns to get going.

Play a deck that doesn't revolve around the commander. I have a food token deck headed up by Greta and I don't pop her out unless I need a little bit of card draw or more food.
Also, choose less threatening commanders. I have a Gorion deck where Gorion has survived the entire game because he isn't threatening enough to be on anyone's radar.

alright since you asked so nicely and tolerated me being an ass
this guy needs to hit in combat and auras would be the obvious choise to buff him, but what if you also debuffed their creatures to get through? this removes the risk with auras of having all eggs in one basket when he eventually eats the removal.
this is one of my recent favorites but there are many auras that make the enchanted creature lose their abilities and become small in blue.
that's also good against annoying value commanders since they are stuck with it on board until they kill it themselves
>>
>>93956372
Not when you have an extremely undersupported one set mechanic as the central theme. The deck will either have minimal to do with it, or be basically unplayable and filled with lands primarily.

I don't know about board wipes necessarily but I fucking love blue enchants that turn good cards into bad cards.
Would highly recommend Metamorphic Alteration, Frogify, Slimebind, So Tiny.

You're also in dimir, which has one of the single best cards in the game, Fate Transfer. Steal all your opponent's +1/+1s, or move some stun counters. Initially I played this combo with Sleep-Cursed Faerie because it's a much mana cost, but if you need enchantments, use Kitnap, don't gift a card, then just move the stun counters onto something else.
The Overlords in Duskmourn can all come in as enchantments with 4 time counters, Fate Transfer can remove all those for 2, which will often be the same as casting the card's cost rather than the impending cost, but if you do happen to be playing someone who is also using an Overlord, put your impending counters onto their card instead.

Nah it's not as good. I do run a copy in my Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief deck to move around ability counters but they've never printed anything quite like Fate Transfer. It is unique, and amazingly cheap. I bought up 3 copies from my LGS just so I'd always have spare in case I can't get them in future.

>>
lord of pain sounds fun
>>
>>93956684
I'm not so sure, it feels like they've always been careful to make counter moving abilities only able to move +1/+1 counters. It's kind of a design flaw of the whole game that they'll randomly introduce a new kind of counter every now and then, without preventing it from interacting with old mechanics
Proliferate is the golden example, because it's a mechanic that just lets you add a counter to ANY CARD ON THE FIELD OR PLAYER that already has a counter of that type. Utterly fucking insane value. I would hate to see the poor bastard who tries Impending his Overlord against a proliferate deck and the thing never hits the field.
>>
>>93956686
Transferring finality counters to your opponent's shit seems like it'd be fun, but then you remember that there's so much grave hate these days that all you're really doing is making bounce good and turning off flicker. The number of cases where it's actually useful are astonishingly low
>>
>>93956686
blue is the king of spell recursion, dimir doubly so because of black's gy interaction. if you can't figure out a way to cast it twice or more in a game thats kind of on you
>>
So I buy my bundle blind as I do for all recent sets and duskmourn seems genuinely low powered unlike the bloomburrow meme. There are maybe 2 cards I saw I'd even consider putting in a deck.
>>
>>93956768
>if you can't figure out a way to cast it twice or more in a game thats kind of on you
Twice is fucking easy, the problem is that most cards that let you play the same spell twice will also exile it.
If it was a permanent, it'd be easy, there's a thousand copy spells out there. But I can only think of a few spells that will copy an instant and they have drawbacks like pic related.

What the fuck is this art? It's cool but makes little sense. Human Assassin.

>>
>>93957352

If you look at the hand you can see it is a projection, that it is not physically present.
>>
>>93957364
Shouldn't he be an artifact creature like Mr. House?
>>
>>93957352
He's basically a disembodied spirit that lives inside of the TV dimension and can manifest on any TV in the plane. He's depicted in a few other cards, too. He's "the first razorkin" and apparently the defacto leader of that group. As for why he's a "Human Assassin" despite basically being dead, I have no idea. I think his backstory implied that his body is actually still "alive" technically and killing it would destroy him, so I guess he's technically not a "spirit", but that feels like a very weird technicality for what should probably be an Artifact Spirit.
>>
>>93957352
>>93957364
>>93957368
>>93957382
The way i interpreted it was that he's just appearing on TV screens to give orders
>>
>>93957390
That's what I assumed from the art, too, but his backstory blurb says he's a disembodied spirit that lives inside the TVs.
>The Lord of Pain is a former survivor and the first-ever razorkin who's devoted to the discovery of new sensations of pain. Countless years ago, in his quest for ever-increasing pain, he managed to catch a cellarspawn and extract its essence to inject into himself, hoping that infusing himself with pure fear would inflict an agony upon him that no one had ever felt before. Instead, he found that it wrenched his mind from his body and flung it into the screens of the House. One of the screens overlooked a survivor's painful death, and as the Lord of Pain watched, he realized that he could feel every moment of pain and agony as if he was experiencing it for the first time. From that moment on, he gleefully abandoned his mortal body to live exclusively within the House's screens, watching and savoring every moment of torture he could find. Somewhere within the razor mazes is a room where his body is stashed. Many survivors believe that if they can find it and destroy it, that will be the end of him, a rumor that the Lord of Pain actively encourages because it means more survivors will willingly enter the razor mazes—where hordes of razorkin eagerly lie in wait.

What you're saying is you prefer the CONCEPT
And that's all this entire fucking set has. It's just a single concept "what if a whole plane was just 1 spooky house lol"

You can say you don't like Bloomburrow, but as a world it has no problem making sense because it's just Redfall + kaiju. You can imagine what day to day life is like.

Bruh it's just just +X/+X where X is the number creatures the same type -1.

Because it says "shares at least one creature type with it" you don't have to care about secondary types.
Your elf druid, elf wizard, and elf warlock all share the elf type, fulfilling the "at least one creature type" bit

You've got a bunch of cards like cyberman patrol or Nylea that are just generic cards with two types that trigger Rendmaw. He's a five drop. Not all of your setup cards need to be ones that work well with him, and you don't want to include narrow cards like Eidolon of Blossoms on the offchance you play a few enchantments afterwards. Silklash Spider would be a nice way to clear out the birds.

I'd cut back on things like star compass, talisman, etc for rampant growth effects and mana dorks, of which you already have plenty. Basically every deck with black that makes tokens should run Victimize, and every deck that makes tokens period should have Ashnod's Altar. Eyeblight's Ending hasn't been worth running since 2012. You'll want a few more pieces of card draw, even basic stuff like Night's Whisper or Diresight would go a long way.

Overall the deck seems fine, though it's a little prone to just "do shit and vomit out cardboard until the game is over". Not much of an proactive plan.

Ellivere stax is what I'm currently playing at cEDH tournaments, it's my favorite of my commander decks. I'd say the trap of ellivere is leaning to heavily into enchantments over hatebears. You really want to be able to put a new body on the board every turn since that equates to having a new role on board as well. The math on the power increase across your board per role is wild.

Thinking about building picrel for casual fun. Looking for two things:
>Tips for building around her

I imagine that this deck is fine with you doing things where you occasionally sac lands for advantage, since she's just going to get them back for you. And also that you definitely want to acquire a lot of lands for the ox.

optimus prime list is pic related. Ideal line is to play cost reducer in turn 2, counter pay off in turn 3, optimus in turn 4 and start abusing the pay off. I had to make some changes due to complains. Rhystic Study got replaced with Trouble in Pairs, Winter Orb replaced with High Noon and Cyclonic Rift replaced with Aven Interrupter.
I've got Pollywog Prodigy in the mail to test it as a replacement for either etched oracle or mindless automaton.

100% worth it for precons, but pretty much useless for everything else.
They do sell everything sliiiiightly cheaper than my LGS so I'll be buying my bundle there for £43 rather than the £48 my LGS charges. But on packs, they're only like 20p cheaper than the LGS so it's not really worth it.
They're currently putting Karlov Manor packs on sale at £4, so I might pick up some more Bloomburrow if they get the same price drop. But yeah, otherwise they don't usually have any particularly great deals outside precons being standardised

It's presumably a lore thing they either didn't elaborate on or intended to hint at upcoming story elements. The vault seems to make artifact duplicates of other things, and IIRC all of the "gnomes" and artifact creatures in LCI were derived from technology made by the same empire that made the vault, so there's probably some connection there.

>>
>>93964172
Depends on your playgroup and what those people like. I basically don't like to run anything that's super low interaction, as a lot of combos are, or prison decks. I can and have done that plenty of times in the past, but I think it's kinda lame to put people together for a game if your strategy is that other people don't get to play it.

>none of them play any sort of removal or interaction
>always complain about me playing board wipes or neutralizing their key pieces

It's so fucking strange to me. They kind of just want to sit there and build huge fields and expect to not be interfered with. It's not even like I'm crushing them or anything either. Their decks are way stronger than mine and I usually lose, but man they will bitch about having to work for it.
>>
>>93964380
this pasta reminds me
>build deck with lots of counters for the first time in my life
>have to counter a winning combo on turn 5
>the next player now goes off and wins because nobody else has responses
I hate what this format has become. people are just racing who can jerk themselves off the fastest and others are just watching like cucks. everything goes infinite at a drop of a hat these days and that's the exact thing I tried to escape from when playing edh
sure, the combos were always there but what the fuck am I supposed to do against 3 people when god damn precons are designed to do this unmodified with little to no instant interaction
>>
>>93964380
>They kind of just want to sit there and build huge fields and expect to not be interfered with
Man I've been seeing this shit since my Starcraft days in middle school. People just wanna "play and have fun" and expect you to just roll over when their army comes knocking on your door. Dumb as fuck.
>>
>>93964502
The RTS skill curve is kind of steep, and a lot of people who like playing games at their own pace don't know how to approach them. I remember thinking some things along those lines when I was younger and Starcraft was my first game like that, but I know now that if I want to chill and build stuff up that there are tons of non-PVP games that I can do that in.

That being said, there's no point in playing a game with people for fun if you're just going to deny them the chance to play. People striving to win is generally fine, but when you're playing directly with people you know, you don't want to just break them so they regret bothering to come play with you.
>>
>>93964502
The first level of mastery is playing proactively and having a gameplan. The second layer of mastery is interfering with your opponent's gameplan. The third layer is protecting your gameplan from the opponent's interference. The fourth level is sculpting your gameplan in advance to do all three at once.

Most people don't reach level one, let alone surpass it. To them, "interaction" is just being a dick and stopping them from playing the game, rather than BEING the game.
>>
>>93964502
There's a pretty significant percentage of commander's playerbase that would be better off playing some engine building board game.
This isn't an attack or even a judgement, I think they would enjoy that experience a lot more because it sounds like closer to what they want out of their games.
>>

The 102 IQ INTJ experience of playing EDH: playing stax and being unable to cope with the role of "pod supervillain" that they have chosen for themselves. Just once I wish these pasty bitches would lean into it and come in dressed as Seto Kaiba or Snidely Whiplash
>>
>>93964502
Yup. That's why whenever I give advice I ask what the gameplan is. If it's "dunno cast some dudes" I tell them to think of specific lines or boardstates they're working on progressing towards.
>>
>>93964585
Nta, what you said is the philosophy I feel people playing EDH should adhere to. People are not robots, if your pod is about having fun - adapt, if your pod is about play to win at all costs - adapt. Most anons in this general seem to completely forget that they are playing first of all with people, second - against their decks. Find the balance in your playgroup rather than be far at either end.
>>
>>93964678

Not with the current sales method.

Doesn't matter, all of them will ensure you aren't invited back to our table.

Izzet will build a magic tech cock sucking device that lets it suck cocks from other dimensions

Huh, it's not marked on Google maps, but when I go to that address on streetview, you're right.
But where is this alleged distribution center?

It's never a waste of time.
Idk what I make of this warehouse theft theory.
Apparently Wizards only has 1 distributor in Tennesee and it's kinda far from Smyrna. Not so far that it's impossible, but idk

Oh apparently that's only like half an hour's drive. Looks way further on the map

Finally. Surprised it took this damn long to see something from this set. When is it finally happening?
>>
>>93966294
Q1 2025 I would assume, if cards are already printed.

Checks out. I thouht I remembered one of the roadmaps at the start of this year or end of last year saying it would be the end of 2024 but maybe it got pushed back. Or I could be remembering it wrong or getting it mixed up with Final Fantasy. That it's a secret lair is odd though. Thought we'd get the set first.
>>
>>93966343
I don't think these are from the actual set. Whether they're going to be in the set is a separate thing, but these are a Secret Lair and the fact they use gendered pronouns indicates they're unique TO that Secret Lair.
>>
>>93966377
That makes sense and explains a few things. So if things go the way other releases have gone then these are going to remain exclusive to the secret lair and whatever the set will have will be something else entirely?
>>
>>93966374
The announcement had it set for 2025, alongside Final Fantasy in that same year. Presumably those will both be the two non-Standard full sets for the yerar.
>>
>>93966384
Most likely? It's possible they're early previews and will be in the set anyway (but the pronouns thing again feels wrong there), might be a thing they hand out as promos (the guy who posted the image seems to have literally just stolen a bunch of cards from a warehouse or something so no telling how these are gonna be distributed) and might have 'proper printings' later on, etc.
>>
>>93966393
So I really did completely misremember it then. Wouldn't be the first time. Thanks anon.
