Who’s ready for No Necron November?

I am starting to collect parts for a 1000 point (to start at least) beastmen IG regiment, anyone have recommendations for relevant useful bits to hunt for? I am still juggling what the actual list will be but I would like to have a diverse looking squad with a reasonably heavy infantry focus. So far I have the Cadia Stands box, a box of Gors (the ungor heads look like shit to me) and a Beastlord, although converting that chunky boy is going to be interesting since I want to end up with a reasonably clean look.

Madrobotminiatures has some "Yak heads" and Victoriaminiatures has some beastmen heads too, but Victoriaminiature's beastmen heads look a bit oldhammer sculpted styled.
Madrobot's have CAD design to them.

And both are in resin.

Probably no such book could exist for proper 40k, but theoretically possible for killteam

> 5E-era Tau
> outcheesing anything

How about you fuck off, 5E was a dark age for Tau and they couldn't cheese if they wanted. That whole edition was waiting for your battlesuits to kill everything while your min-strength kroot squads hid in cover/outflank. Your average 5e Tau list looks like:
> 2 Commanders leading 2 bodyguards
> 3 Crisis teams
> 3 kroot squads
> 3 broadside teams
With everyone running fireknives and maybe some deathrains.
Get your tau-hating revisionism out of here. This wasn't 4E fish of Fury, or 6E triptide. 5E was when tau were actually fun to play. If retard mcgee wants to play his whole army in reserves against an army with 30+ infiltrators then that's his perogative.

Because the budget would be too much. GW would need Disneybucks in order to fund such a movie with the amount of CGI needed. Or just make the entire movie CGI.
>I feel like it would be a kino 3 hour
I think it would need to be a trilogy of 3 hours and even then it would be highly abridged.

But Henry Cavil is apparently making a 40k show using Amazon bucks so only time will tell if it is good or not. I'm not hopeful though.

>>
>>94292054
The Horus Heresy has only recently finished it's book series, and it's 100+ books I think. The question is what would you even show?

Warhammer 40k has only recently become popular in the normie sphere. People have had passing knowledge forever, but it's always been niche until relatively recently.
>>
>>94292076
>>94292054
I apologize. It's 64 books.

Is it a good or bad thing that 40k has become popular with normies?
>>
>>94292089
yes
>>
>>94292089
Probably bad, but who knows maybe some neat people will pick up the game in your area
>>
>>94292089
Maybe both? Older stuff will now be dug up and made into other formats we can enjoy.

I have definitely felt some of the "edge" taken away in the last few years, and we're drifting into "Hero Hammer" territory with the Primarchs returning. Most of the point of 40k was it was shit, everything sucked, and it was only going to get much worse. Unless they throw a Game of Thrones and just kill the fucking Lion or Guilliman (which they won't, because they have models), things are looking to improve in the Imperium.

If it means we get Total War 40k, non-Forgeworld DKoK, and new Vespids then I'm probably cool with whatever the downsides are.
10th already happened and made everything simple anyway, so it's not like they'll dumb down the game even further. Probably.

>>

I think 40k becoming popular with normies is great mainly for the draw of Xenos factions. I don't think Normies will be super into endless marine vs Marines, but they'd appreciate Nids/Orks/Crons better

They're going to just continuing dumbing it down to AoS standards. It'll make the inevitable Age of Emperor/ Age of Sigmar merge even easier.

I've decided I wanna try and get into 40k again, so I've dug up all my old shit from mine and my parent's attic and I'm gonna sell off most of it, excluding the CSM stuff that's salvageable, and start a CSM army that I'll actually put work into.

What would be reasonable to charge second hand for my necrons? Most of it is dusty and scuffed from being carelessly stored for 10+ years and the warriors are the old green rod sculpt but the rods have fallen off most of the built ones.

In total I have.
3x Canoptek Wraiths (Unpainted, two fully built with whipcoils, one partially built with the remaining parts on the sprue)
5x Immortals/Deathmarks (On sprue, one Deathmark head is missing)
5x Deathmark (Built and primed metal)
1x Ghost Ark/Doomsday Ark (On sprue, some parts have been taken of the sprue but are in the package)
1x Doomsday Ark (Built and partially painted, gauss flayer array has snapped off during storage but should be able to be glued on with relative ease)
1x Ghost Ark (Built and primed black)
1x Doomscythe (Built and partially painted)
1x Catacomb Command Barge (Built and unpainted)
1x Monolith (Old sculpt, partially painted)
1x Imotekh The Stormlord (Finecast. built and unpainted)
1x Cryptek (Finecast, built and unpainted)
1x Cryptek (Finecast, built and painted to a fairly low standard)
1x C'tan Nightbringer (Metal, builtt)
1x C'tan Deceiver (Metal, built, missing it's horns on one side of it's head)
3x Canoptek Scarab Swarm (On base)
19x Necron Warriors (Old green rod sculpt. Barely worth mentioning as they're seriously scuffed, in various stages of being painted)
Necron Warrior + Canoptek Scrab sprues. (Still on their sprues, Old green rod sculpt. Some sprues partially used, enough parts for 15ish warriors and 6 Scarab bases with 3 scarabs each)

BL writing is not representative of what the characters should actually be like. BL writers can only portray characters with the same level of intellect as themselves - which is not very high.
>>
>>94292305
Just put it on ebay it will sell pretty high
>>
>>94292305
Seeing as you bought so much shit but barely painted or even built it I'd think twice before trying to get into the hobby again. At the very least don't buy a lot of shit at once. Get a kit to figure out if the hobby is for you and only buy another one once you paint it.
>>
>>94292305
just look at sold listings on ebay for each unit and how much the old versions are going for, general rule of thumb for condition is painted is 50% RRP, and built is 60-70% RRP, you don't want to charge much more than that since most can buy new at 80% RRP already. You then have to decide if you want to sell the units individually or as a lot, selling as a lot is easier but you'll have to add an additional discount to incentivize people to buy it, you're looking at maybe 40% RRP at best.
>>
>>94292209
suddenly 20 goblins with spears, with buffs and re-rolls are better at skilling anything, from line infantry to gigantic monster, then eternal champions of Chaos or the stormgod. Because they get to run around in 3/6 or 5 man size squads.
>>
>>94292248
I think we've already reached that point at which they'd earn more by making the kits cheaper rather than more expensive but they're surely comfy keeping things as they are, not investing into larger factories. storehouses and shit. Why do that if you can just milk the loyal base and keep the investors happy anyway.

>A writer can't write someone smarter than themselves
Yup, I get it guys, but their supposed mental capabilities are not realistic (Angron could actually run a functioning planet? Come on.) because no one can do that. The Valdor book actually does a pretty good job of explaining that even the Emperor can't solo run a planet and needs all the help he can get. I've also read Sci-Fi that's written by actual geniuses (Von Braun for instance) and they never autistically apply their intelligence to the page because it's fucking boring and not intended to be a philosophical exercise. If you had a time machine and asked Von Neuman to write a HH book, it would be like any other BL book since he can't transpose his prodigious intelligence into a narrative where such fictionalized mental capabilities would actually be used in a sensible manner. It's the same thing with philosophy. Pretty much all great philosophical texts only approach one or a handful of topics in-depth, and they tend to be dense and difficult to apprehend. In the context of narrative fiction, especially Warhammer narrative fiction, it makes far more sense that basically everyone is just an uneducated retard and guys like Roboute had the luxury of going to an actual school. And he writes (per the canon) a lot. Like a shitload. Given his Greco-Roman aesthetic and the fact that he does this, it seems fairly obvious what the writers are trying to do with him in that's he supposed to be a mixture of Polyaenus and Marcus Aurelius. He doesn't write like Caesar though, and even if you tried to make that argument, go read Caesar's Gallic War and try to make the case that the author is some giga brained genius because you can't. Caesar was an immensely talented political operator and general, but he never sounds like he is due to the impersonal and biographical nature in which events are recounted. The feats described are at times genius but we aren't really privy to the mind of that genius.
>>
>>94292360
I’d never pay 60% RRP considering you can buy 3rd party retail for 80%, NOS on eBay for most things @ at least 70% as well as the fact the kit was probably assembled by a mongoloid.

It's not gay, it actually used to be pretty fun, but then they introduced a treadmill into the game and have done almost nothing with it content wise since its release. GW would probably revoke their license if it wasn't for the fact that they probably make them more than enough money via cosmetics. It's shameful how little Fatshark has done with DT. They literally, I shit you not, once went on vacation for three months, to come back and announce they were working on a big update only to go on vacation two months later (sans update) for another three months and if you point this out, they will ban you.

He can't really even lead anything so either, bladeguard or termies work. Inner circle as well.
He's targetable from 12" and since he's a monster, he can be shot past a screen unit. So I would take something that can possibly punish back anyone that dares drop in like that. Also meta cheese, go for terminators as you can run them in a 10 man, put the lion behind them and screen through distance. As long as you cover your bootyhole from deep strikes you should be able to have a buffer lager than 9'. Unless you like your butt to get tickled, but that's on you.

It's really fucking funny, but the only reason is because they live in Sweden so all of their vacations are legally required or collectively agreed to. It becomes doubly funny when you look at what they do with all of the time they spend when they aren't on vacation. They do some modicum of work, but from what it sounds like the dev teams are split 60/40 working on VT and DT (respectively). Since the managers at Fatshark are so incredibly hands off, it sounds like the devs don't actually want to work on DT because it's a much harder game to develop for compared to VT. And since DT makes them a lot of money via cosmetics, they are fine with letting the majority of their labor go towards updating a literal dead game. It's lunacy. And I am not making this shit up, apparently one of the major problems they have had with updating DT is finding eligible devs because they (for whatever reason) refuse to hire international contractors to do anything but make cosmetics. They will hire you if you're a foreigner, but only if you move to Sweden and get a work visa. I know this to be the case because they fired one of the CMs after she failed to secure a work visa. It was really fucking funny.

If it's a semi serious game using tactical missions I take a couple small fast units to score/screen/early charge like stormboyz and bikes but trukks also fill that role. It also helps to have a murder unit like Ghaz or 10 Nobz+Boss to threaten the middle so they can't just have a termie brick or monolith plop down and never die.

Depends how you want to play your orks.
From sounds of it you're not a snigger player.
2 to 3 trukks, a wagon and fuck load of boys. If you're running bully boys, get some nobz. You don't really need a mek but its helpful at times. Really warbosses, and Boyz will see you though. The biggest issue you'll have is armor heavy enemies. Things with vehicles.

Under this hypothetical is the chess grandmaster aware of the situation they are in, or like Groundhog Day only the individual operator is? Because I'm not saying you could win against them if they were aware of the true game being played, but you could absolutely win against them if only you were aware of the game being played by memorizing their moves and effectively playing them against themselves. Eventually you'd win.

What army is the most accepting of models from other armies? I like a few models from CSM, a few of aeldari, a few sisters... and was thinking how easy it is to convert a model to some other style? Some armies look too "uniformed", like space marines, Tau or Tyrandis, but other, like Orks, could easily steal the vehicles of other factions. So far I like Death Guard the most, with idea for using sisters, guard and CSM models as proxies for cultists, poxwalkers, chaos spawns, plague marines, dirtying the rhinos... For aeldari I think they would nicely merge with drukhari? And maybe Tau model could be Talos-ified? Sister wrecked?

Do you use models from other armies in your main army?
>>
How come unrepentantly evil dark elves are far less sadistic and more accepting of humans?
>>

A printer makes life easier when you just need arms. Plastic wise the classic is gors kit bashes with catachans but if you are looking for a uniformed look that is not going to work. Victoria miniatures makes sets of beastmen legs in kneeling positions which will take care of your heavy weapon squads.

On the nose. Blue and green go great together (though I will say that dark green and yellow are good, too like >>94292580 said) and Deffskullz being the thieving gits they are means you can justify way more kitbashing.
Also blue is lucky and this is a dice game. You need luck. That's why I run Deffskullz with blue dice and roll in a blue dice tray with a blue dice bag.

People have proven that they will buy as much as GW can presently produce at the current price point. It's the safer business decision for GW to keep going higher, the customers have shown this isn't the limit yet.
>>
>>94292123
Nobody believes me but I keep saying it, someone at GW is pushing hard (and possibly succeeding) for their business model to become a series of rotating stock, single-sale box sets for all their systems. It started with Underworlds, expanded into new(ish) systems like Warcry and Kill Team, already sort of applied to existing ones like Necromunda and Blood Bowl, and is being tested in the mainline systems via Combat Patrol and Spearhead, as well as the increasing regularity of big army box sets accompanying each codex/armybook release.

For this person I imagine the perfect model is basically customers buying a big box, that has a set load out and composition for all the models within, unique rules across them so that if they ever repeat a sprue between different big boxes, it'll still have the vague semblance of being different from the last one. Then next year they do another one for the same army, and both are still viable and supported but eventually the older or less successful ones get phased out for a new one. They'd have newer model releases exclusively in these boxes and they too would disappear from the army and range as their box is phased out, so GW doesn't have to keep ever expanding their production to support hundreds of individual one offs. And no more main rulebooks as your box has everything the army ever needs.

I don't think this could happen next edition, but there is a visible trend of moving away from free form army building and modularity over the last 3 editions and across all their products.

>>
>>94292706
The dream goal is to make it like MtG with a rotating pool of "current" so they can maximize on meta chasing whales. It's obvious with how much they're supporting and pushing for minimum table size tournament play in all aspects. They also can squeeze out as much as they can with the point squish to make what used to be a 3.5k army 2k. Though that high buy in cost is what killed Fantasy and so they're going for the best of both worlds by going for the model you described for the more casual player, and milking piggies for the higher point games.

I'd say your best bet with burnas is to shove 10 in a trukk and only pop them out for glorious melee with your cuttin' flames against infantry. Str4 ap-2 is a weird combo but it can get you what you need sometimes.
I always love lootas. They're extremely cheap for what they can do when they spike their hits and make for some pretty decent long-range marine killers, especially if those marines are on objectives.
And you'll definitely want stormboyz. Not only are they kickass, too, but action monkeys are almost a need in 10th edition.

Can't help you there, sorry. I haven't run kommandos in 10th. At first glance I'd say the problem with kommandos is that you have to have them on the field on turn 1. Sure they go anywhere, but your enemy knows where they are and can go and kill them before they do their actions.
Stormboyz, however, can drop down anywhere when you see fit (before the end of turn 3, of course). Say you draw sabotage or containment on round 2 or 3. Your kommandos could've already been killed by then. But your stormboyz are still in deep strike.

It's meant to normalize a cycle of regular box sets in a larger size/price point from Combat Patrols. Originally we only got them with armies that had a major model range update, now we get them for every army, packed with (1) new model that is exclusive to that box for at least a month.

Is it? I don't feel that's actually an issue. James already sells as much as it wants to, they have a vice grip on the consumer base..purring out more products out there wouldn't necessarily meaan they'd sell that much more. Besides, engaging in made to order minis is good for business.

Stormboys are always better.
Stormboyz are a great screening/nuisance unit. Also cheaper for the utility they give. Always run them in 5s. They aren't meant to soak much up, simply draw attention by dropping in the backline, taking Objectives or cover for a more critical unit in your strat.
Kommados are too fucked to function properly this ed. They function more like SM infiltrators, but you can only run them in 10s. If they had the option of running in a 5 ork squad? They would have been great units to bring one or two and set up as coverage for deep strike armies. But at the moment, they aren't all too worth it.
So for the points of a single kommamdo squad, you can bring 2 stormboyz units and get way more utility from them.

Hard to say anon. Their margins are too filthy and their product is too niche for that to be a sure fire way of growing. Just because you like minis and other people lile the 40K setting does not mean the average person will have the patience to keep buying and puttong minis together. Not quite true. We know a ton about Iyanden from their previous supplement book (even if that's not a standard Craftworld)and the Path of the Eldar book series does touch a little bit on Eldar life.
But the Dark Eldar Path trilogy revels in the seedy underbelly and darkened spires of Commorragh and you can't have a Dark Eldar story WITHOUT talking about Commorragh because it's so central to who they are and how they live and why they are the way the are.

Hey buddy I think you got the wrong door, /v/ is two blocks down.
The decision to make the characters nobodies, all a lower tier than vermintide characters while 40k offers so many gradients of tiers higher, is a little perplexing. Something on the level of SoB, Skitarrii, Scion and Arbite would have made a lot more sense.

watching that meme tithes animation made me think whats the deal with the Custodes role in the Imperium. In that they interact with normal imperials saying their words are the "words of the emperor" and "emperor's will" but they knew big E in the flesh, that he is quadrospazzed and can't talk and that he hates that gods shit. So it makes no sense.

Unironically the retarded TTS depiction of them just staying in the imperial palace oiling themselves up makes more sense than this nu-depiction.

Role a dice for each major piece of terrain (maybe at the start you and your opponent can agree on which pieces are touched by change) to see if it shifts, rotates or stays put. Then role for a direction, or rotation value in maybe using a d4 or d8 (so 90 or 45 degrees.) If it shifts it would like the building advances or something. If it goes off the edge it just teleports to an empty location at the whim of one of players. So sometimes you can place it to benefit you or screw over your enemy.

>Kill Team
skirmish game system for 40k where you play just one unit against another unit, no full armies, more emphasis on individual models, way lower entry cost and arguably a much better game than 40k anyway
>Underworlds
boardgame system for aos with a deckbuilding component, just a handful of models, surprisingly good game and a neat way to get a taste of different factions' models for painting purposes without buying full units or armies

if you want to play 40k with full armies then the only reason to care about them is because some units get released as models for those products first, in the case of kill team, while in the case of the latter they get their own exclusive minis which don't necessarily stay up for sale indefinitely but are cool for collectible purposes

No, none of those fit the niche of 5ish model kits that are played against each other in a game that's also a little bit of a deck building thing.

Getting started each day is the hardest part.

I'll admit that I did advance the flash gitz quite a bit and they were half painted for about six months before I finished them in Orktober,

Assembling the Trukk and painting it took me about ten days for which the meantime I would paint a Grot for less than half an hour and then work on the trukk. I did run out of time on occasion, I couldn't quite finish painting Badrukk to the standard I wanted and instead opted to speed paint Zagstruk.

Sometimes I just use speed/contrast/xpress paints over Zenithal undercoats and call it a day with no highlighting. No one can tell on some of those Super Gretchin, Kommandos, or Flash Gitz, that I skimped out on a few when they're part of a squad.
>>94294483
I also trimmed one of the supporting structures so that the Wrecking ball can be at an angle instead of perpendicular to the trukk, easier storage, especially if I have another one with the ball, boarding plank, and big shoota on the other side. The Trukk's instructions kind of suck, so many pieces are interchangeable or reversible and it doesn't show it.

>>But Eldar have existed as a single genome for literally millions of years
Not really.
They are largely the same, yes. But it has been stated that there are differences between them, at least between DEldar and the CWE.
DEldar tend to be more physically stronger and fit in appearance compared to craftworlders because DEldar don't use psychic powers (because commoragh is unstable due to all the subrealms and it can cause "dysjuntions" in the webway, basically daemons invade and start to pour in and lower the life expectancy of the population dramatically) and in fact their psychic powers have atrophied when compared to other eldar.

I'd imagine the same case is for exodites as well if you compare them to CWE since exodites specifically forsake the advanced tech of their forebears. They basically took the whole "idle hands are the devil's playthings." to heart. So you'd assume they'd more physically strong in appearance as well since their life styles are more physical, be they like nomadic hunter-gatherers or practising basic agriculture life style.

Well that does look quite achievable, did you drybrush metallics over that trukk? Honestly find the technique looks quite good for the amount of effort required. I pretty much use contrasts on everything now, usually a mix (like leather straps, I don't like any of the brown contrasts for that so always just use a layer paint) mainly because I find it easier and some of them come out looking great. I should probably start doing something similar, working on a vehicle while painting other shit. I've got half a dozen vehicles to paint

Seasoned 40k player and kitbashed here but new to Space Marines specifically, I have only started some BT just recently. These guys are trash right? So why would anyone ever buy individual characters rather than kitbashing/running these guys individually as Lieutenants/Captains/Ancient etc? I'm aware people do it but why isn't it done more? You get 5 characters for the price of like 2. Are people that terrified of kitbashing? I've saved literally hundreds of dollars by kitbashing my Orks/GSC etc.

Also, what makes a Captain a Captain, and a Lt a Lt? Is it equipment? Their armor? Space Marines arr rook same

>>
>>94295650
Most do, but there are many warbands that have fully embraced chaos shit like mutations.
But over all trend for Night Lords is that the most of the warbands genuinely don't give a shit about chaos and are just pirates, and for them chaos at best is just a means to an end.

How succesful way of life that is, I don't know, but that is how most of the NL are.

"Contrast" paint by itself makes no sense.
it's colors that contrast, what exactly about the -paint-, separate from the color used, is better at contrasting than base coat colors?
