If a company wants to make a competitor to games workshop you need a video game to do well. Its why Battletech is still kicking and winning
>>94293308>Its why Battletech is still kicking and winningThat would be because Battletech's built in grogs are not consoomers but wargamers. They're there whenever the license is recovering from being dumpstered to buy new stuff. They're not in need of constant new releases, though, nor prone to whale behavior.
>>94293482Its because of mechwarrior stop jacking off
>>94293308A video game or an anime sure. Its marketing gets the ip in the heads of people same reason why transformers had a cartoon.A comic might work too and that would be easier since its an easier market to break into
>>94293557Wrong.
>>94293595Cyberpunk is such dogshit carried by a shit video game and anime
>>94293619Pokemon tcg is another example
>>94293619I think cyberpunk is purely carried by the anime which is honestly funny
>>94293618If we are being honest mech warrior does play a role. For instance, I only found out about shadow run with the fps game that came out in 2008. I know that wasn’t actual shadow run but seeing as how later shadow run games helped market it is a factor. And what has happened? No new shadow run video games and barely anyone talks about it here. You can have a shot edition and still survive as a franchise if your secondary media is alive still
>>94293482Franchise awareness is a thing and that's the reason why brands branch into it. I would have never been interested in wargames like battletech or heavy gear if I hadn't played the video games as a kid, because there's a number of games for any theme you can think of and their title is not enough to stand out from the others, Mech Commander gave me an idea of what the whole thing was about way before looking into any ruleset, and without looking up any pic I already knew what mechs I wanted to get.
>>94293308You are somewhat correct, look at D&D in the 90's and what the cyberpunk anime did for the crapy game.>>94293619That's the thing, people who love one thing will forgive a product for being shoddy
>>94293482You had multiple video games and a fucking cartoon. You aren’t some hidden indie gem faggot.
>>94293482Nah, they're replacing the grogs with diversity and official models only gameplay. The grogs bought the novels which kept it going for a while but they're in the same category as everyone else who will not be missed.
>>94293308Is that why WoD is kicking still too.
>>94293718>That's the thing, people who love one thing will forgive a product for being shoddyThat's what helped Bethesda until it didn't.
>>94293941I still don’t think the actual cyberpunk rpg is doing that well. The anime and games later patches were stim shot but if I recall the new edition of red was apparently horrible
>>94293308Nothing hard about that fact, vidya market is orders of magnitude bigger than tabletop market so if you hook people on vidya you can sell (some of) them physical game as a tie-in.
>>94293989I wouldn't be surprised but it's enough for the court of public opinion to say they pulled a No Man's Sky.
>>94293989Newest Cyberpunk RED is a trash fire released purely on the hype of the video game
>>94293745The point is the video games did not keep Battletech alive through multiple deaths. Grogs did.
>>94294700Mormons almost killed it though.
>>94296197They tried three times, but it hasn't stuck yet.
