Getting back into painting after putting it off for a few years. A certain Brother may or may not have just been primed...
>>94484948>Moooooom, Aiden covered me in spray paint again! On another topic - anyone else feel like they spend way too much time fussing with building and prep? Like there's got to be an easier to way deal with mold lines. I'm going to get some #10 blades that might be able to get into annoying places to scrape better than #11s can without risk of gouges.
>>94484971Depends what I'm working on. If it's gunpla or a model kit, I'll sand and polish it. But if it's a miniature, I just scrape it off with the back of a knife. It might be visible under all the paint, but no one is going to see with how small they are. For a big monster or something, I might sand and polish as well. But infantry, nah fuck that.
>>94484971Every time I rush cleaning and prepwork I come to regret it down the line.
>>94484971I fluctuate between wanting to prep thoroughly and hurrying it up before I lose interest in painting.
>>94484738Anons, I use greenstuff for doing some sculpting, but I need some kind putty that becomes harder and let me to make smaller, sharp details that I can file away.which one should I buy?
Update from my foam not being delivered that I mentioned in the previous thread.>Complain to the seller that it never arrived>They tell me to contact the delivery service>Contact them>They send me a photo of where they put it>Check there and everywhere else but it's still not there>That means someone stole my foam>Just went to dump some stuff in the communal bins for the building>The parcel was opened and in thereSome dumb fuck in this building stole my parcel, opened it, realised it was fucking foam and then threw it in the same bins we all use. Peak petty crime.
>>94484971I clean even the mouldlines I know for a fact won't be visible, so I guess? I'm not big on assembling overall but I still try to do it properly
>>94484971I just leave the mold lines as they are, I barely even notice them, the spot where parts connect is even more visible, but I don't care about that neither.
First 10 of 68 solar auxilia infantry done; took longer than it probably should have but I’m happy with them. First time I’ve done squad painting as opposed to individual models. Hope your projects are all going well
>>94485361
>haven't bought a single kit in like half a year to work through my backlog>it's better but still a decent amount left>black friday>fighting the urge to get some KDM minis since they're literally 50% offwhat do I do bros
>>94485330>>Just went to dump some stuff in the communal bins for the building>>The parcel was opened and in thereHoly shit.I don't know about your country's laws, but in mine, the seller is liable for the package arriving safely at the buyers place. He can't just say "Not my problem, call the delivery service", if it does not arrive, he has to send it again or refund. Then again, delivery services just dropping off packages in public places is wild, they did not even deliver the package to you in my opinion.
>>94485382Oh shit, I guess I'm finally gonna get a KDM mini.
>>94485390Oh yeah for sure. The delivery service is one of the shittest ones we have. They didn't message me or send me a photo of the delivery until I asked for it. Amazon would have refunded me if I fought it which I was going to. But now that I have it, I don't care. I just told them the deliverer is shit and didn't leave it in a safe location and I won't be buying from people that use them again.
>>94485382Is KDM actually any fun to play? It seems mildly interesting but Idk much about tabletop games desu. It just seems a bit more self contained and structured than something like warhammer or D&D which is mildly appealing to me.
>>94485410I literally don't give a single fuck about the game, I just like their coomer minis
>>94485410Never played it, but it looks like a pretty standard dungeon crawler or boss battler board game, just with lots of good minis. Unless you're into coop board games, it's probably not worth it.
>>94485439I've read people describing it as tabletop monster hunter which honestly sounds pretty fun but never had a chance to try it either
>>94485446You could also just get the table top monster hunter game.
>>94485397It still blows my mind that in US it's legal to just leave a package at someones front door and call it a day
>>94485414>I literally don't give a single fuck about the game, I just like their coomer minis
>>94485397>>94485449It's legal in the UK but the delivery company is liable unless they have your prior agreement. My buddy is a delivery guy and he says basically you're risking your livelihood just dumping stuff but an amazing number of them just don't give a shit.More elves, white and black is done and starting in on the purple. I'm gonna try and blitz these tonight and finish them off before their first game on Sunday. Not looking forward to the pom poms, probably should have dry brushed them before I painted anything else.
>>94485410You ever played Darkest Dungeon and Monster Hunter and taken an accountancy course?
>>94485618ever drunk baileys from a shoe?
>>94485382>they won't ship to my country from their UK warehouseoh well that solved itself I guess
>>94485365Love them! I wish they existed before... I will change my cadian ugly army for them with no hesitation.
>>94485627No, but I've played 40k, which is similar.
>>94485382> 15th anniversary survivors look awesome> huge backlog already> got most of the survivors that were in the ridiculously generous bundles > fuck> considering finally getting the core game> feeling miserly right nowMaybe I should wait next year.
>>94485671Thanks for reminding me that me and my pal used to drink zedda piras while playing our mordheim campaigns.
>>94484740I need to get my ass in gear and finalize my present.
God I'm moving at a snails pace because of work garbage. I really like how bl anons black recipe turned out on the scales tho
>>94484738How do you motivate yourself to paint /WIP/? I've got a backlog so long I will only finish it when I'm 90>2.5k sisters + 2k iron hands + 3k night lords 30k + numerous kill teams
>>94485749can you drop a list of the colours you used for the rider?
>>94485753Wait, you actually have over 37 THOUSANDS plastic miniatures?! How is that even physically possible?
>>94485753It's a hobby, I enjoy doing it, otherwise I wouldn't.
>>94485770Lets just say I have a very successful Only Fans and a long penisHog unrelated
>>94485777These digits dont lie either
>>94485753Just sell in ebay 90% of what you have an keep only the things that you really are going to paint. Make a calendar with little objetives that you can complete weekly without burning out and stay painting every week until you got all the stuff done. Don't buy again until you painted all and treat the act of buying new stuff as a reward for acomplishing your objetives, not as coomsum to get dopamine burst.Motivation is a psypop, do what you must until it becomes an habit and really enjoy it. Learn to enjoy the hobby, not buying. In few words, just retake your will.Pic unrel.
>>94485765It's pretty much all gold and turquoise so I assume that's what you're interested in>scalesstegadon scale washed with 1:1 mix of coelia and black, highlighted with vgc turquoise and vgc aquamarine. >skinvgc turquoise shaded with coelia thinned 1:1 with medium ->vgc aquamarine->baharroth blue->ak snow blue>goldretributor shaded with reikland highlighted with ttc glistening gold and canoptek alloy
>>94485753Don't but anything else until you're done. For that many I'd go tabletop quality for everything but centerpiece characters. Get yourself an airbrush and batch blast them. Fortunately power armour does allow for pretty good results with simple zenithals or even the dreaded slapchop. That way you can see results quickly and get things up to a decent standard. Even if they're only tabletop quality you'll have a tabletop quality army which is more than you had when you started.
>>94485866Thats exactly what i wanted, tysm
After 20 years I tool the miniatures I never painted and try to do it again.4 hours for this dogshit, but I enjoyed the process.Too much water, I mixed red and blue to make pink with miserable result etc. and still I have to finish.Bretonnia is cool btw.
>>94485749Mint
>>94486038How did you make it look so dirty? Also you primed it right?
im not the fastest painter around but this is what i managed today
>>94486387how did you do the bone?
Anyone got experience in successfully stripping prepainted Wizkids minis? If so, what did you use? I don't even want 100% clean, just enough to get the detail back from layers of caked paint.
>>94486394skeleton horde over white primer topped with white drybrush
>>94486374I primed it 20 years ago, it was already black. The dirtyness comes from a 20 years old Vallejo Chaos Black used as a wash, I diluted it with a lot of water.
>check kingdom death new black friday sale>4 new ultimate survivors models>75 bucksThe fuck?
>>94486409Haven't tried, but I'm sure IPA would do it. I might strip mine in IPA this weekend.
Here’s my friend’s Tyranid Tervigon he wanted me to share since he doesn’t use 4chan and I’ve been telling him this mini kicks too much ass not to show off. We’ve been following his progress over the last few days from building up the green stuff-made bursting effects, multiple levels of airbrushing, custom basing and more. I figured everyone here would enjoy checking it out and join me in being jealous of how creative it turned out.
>>94486474i like itnice contrast, brush work and plenty of imaginationthat sack is a bitch to make look half decent but he pulled it off too
>>94486474it does look fantastic, your friend should be very proud of this guy
>>94486474Really fucking coolany more angles?
>>94486498Here’s the only other one he provided our group chat (small international friend group of 20~ years where we all keep tabs on how one another is doing — this dude is a lawyer, professional bodybuilder and apparent pregnant Tervigon enthusiast).
>>94486462>I might strip mine in IPA this weekend. Please post results when you do.
>>94486596Yeah I'll leave them in overnight and give them a scrub tomorrow. They aren't pre-painted, but all wizshit minis come pre-primed, so if it strips that, it'll strip the other paints on it as well.
>>94486596>>94486626in case someone is interested i got this cheap ultrasonic cleaner this summeri have been stripping miniatures since the hand sanitizer days 20+ years back and i can say this was pretty good investmentno more messy scrubbing with toothbrush so your bathroom whatever walls become black with the stuffi put my models in a ziplock bag with ipa, add some hot water to the container and let it do its job
>>94486677>i put my models in a ziplock bag with ipa, add some hot water to the container and let it do its jobBrilliant. I wish I'd thought of that years ago
>>94486677>i put my models in a ziplock bag with ipa, add some hot water to the container and let it do its jobSo obvious in hindsight.
>>94486519>pregnant Tervigonis there any other kind?unless you meant pregnant enthusiast, in which case I don't want to know.
>>94486677You still need to toothbrushing it though
>>94486677I've just been pouring IPA directly into the thing and I feel like an idiot now
Working on the next model for my Carnevale gang
>>94486677>i put my models in a ziplock bag with ipa, add some hot water to the container and let it do its jobout fucking skilled
>>94486792no he meant that the dude is pregnant
>>94485330Bunch of savages in this town.
>>94485330What else is he going to do, refund it to your card?
>>94486474The orange is lovely and works really well with the blue grey skin. Full points.
>>94486409iirc those minis are resin and the ipa might damage them
>>94486964I was asking for Clix era minis, not sure what those primed minis the other anon's bathing are made of.
any recommendation for white priming with a brush? i am trying to paint my first mini and in my country spray primers are not common because they are a pain to import. i want to use contrast paints so from what i have seen vallejo white doesn't work for that kind of thing.
I know the paint is too thick, and I'm working on improving it. That said: is the gun too bright? I was going to stick with a darker teal but ended up painting over it and liking the shade. But not sure if it clashes too much. Trying to figure out a casing color that goes well with the scheme for both red/white and blue/white.
Finally finished painting the lads. Still need practice making tidy edge highlights, but I'm happy with them for now.
>>94487448nice empty bases:^)
>>94487292I like it because it's unique, but it is now the focal point of the modelUp to you if you want that but the most of the time you want that to be the head or some kind of heraldry on the shoulders
Started working on my first Night Lords. I'll finish the army next year at this pace.
Thanksgiving kicked my ass but wanted to keep going, so we're doing a smaller model today. Preglaze done, this guy will end up a nice blue color (hopefully lol).
>>94487697That's... Probably fine for rank and file, I guess? The bolter is the key for "what is this guy" vs any specialist squads. Probably will tone it down on future models though.
>>94487448Good work, I enjoy the camo design. My one suggestion would be to shade the silver, looks a bit flat.
>>94487802SureI do want to add that your lenses are excellent, nice work there
>>94487448 love the camo pattern - makes me want to buy a second set of aquilons
>>94487448>>94488009the freehand on the bomb and the chainsword is amazing as well
>>94487240i wouldnt bother with trying to prime in white with a normal brush, if rattle cans arent an option you might just have to invest in a cheap airbrush
I have a small bottle of Army Painter (yeah I know, I cant even remember how I got it) super glue that has sadly... turned solid.I mean literally solid, the glue is no longer a liquid. Tried soaking the bottle in hot water in hopes that heating it up will solve the issue, but it didn't sadly.Any advice? Or should I just get a new bottle of super glue.
>>94488159Happened to mine as well, I just threw it in the garbage. I doubt it's fixable desu
>>94484738>Battalion & Orc Mob Arrives>Same day as my edibles I'm in for a busy night
>>94488159get a new onehad that happen with a gsw glue toonot sure what causes it, maybe something got in there at the factory that caused it to go off
>>94488178You buy edibles in the mail?
>>94488159same happened to me, instead got some plastic glue (brand is UHU) from a model train autist store that hasn't failed me for over 3 years now
>>94488189Nah my mate bakes them and drops them off
What to use for proper "seal" bases for using "water" gels and the like so they won't leak? I made test pieces of terrain and attempted to use normal paint masking tape but it simply detached and whole gel leaked down.
>>94488240acrylic panels
>>94488168>>94488186>>94488194I see, damn. Thank you anons. The model-train-autist-store sounds like a good idea, will try and find something similar where I live.>not sure what causes it, maybe something got in there at the factory that caused it to go offI guess that's the case. At first I thought I didn't close it properly, but then I imagine only the surface would harden. The entire fucking thing turned solid, from top to bottom.Really weird, but oh well, time to get some glue.Once again, thank you for the responses anons, appreciate it.
>>94488254So I have to literally wall it around? Everything else will leak?
>>94488240i remember using thick clear tape but those were round bases
>>94488059what about any kind of off-white or light tan? i am trying to paint imperial fist with contrast paints so i am looking for an alternative to wraithbone
Up close, swamp one looks okay but beach one looks more like stained with wash. Still, they were supposed to be submerged.
>>94488446I Would say the beach ones looks more like snow / ice than beach
>>94488341you could try TTCs trooper white, thats the white ive had the best experience with so far - still wont be as good as an airbrush/rattle can though and i think an uneven texture is more noticeable on space marines than on other minis>>94488282well it would be the most efficient option i think
>>94488526what about using a black/dark gray priming and dry brushing some white or wraithbone? would that work with contrasts?
>>94488601light grey should be fine. Have a look at the w*rhipsters video on imperial fists, he primed it using grey seer: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P8LE8j1rcy0&pp=ygUZd2FyaGlwc3RlciBpbXBlcmlhbCBmaXN0cw%3D%3D
>>94488642from what i have seen light grey primers seems to be pretty bad with the brush.
>finally have vacation and 90% of the time can be dedicated to working through my backlog. >catch the Vid from nephews.>been sick for 5 days with zero desire to paint or do anything at all.Fuckkkkk.
>>94488712APs brush on primer might work - i used 2 coats here but i thinned it a bit (not sure of you’re supposed to) and its quite light in color - covers well too
>>94487448>camouflaged body to conceal your position>big, red, glowing eyesKek. But it lools very cool.
If it isn't some big secret that cannot be revealed; Why is 2019 secret santa redacted?Unless its due to covid slowing down shipping to a crawl, and so it never happened. And I'm just retarded
You know you're about to see some S-tier paintjobs when the dude has this void chamber lmaoI've attempted my first camouflage as well and finally got a fine tip brush with which I will try to add more details. I gotta say, knowing my skill level and previous track record, I am rather happy with how it turned out. The "camo" is just really messy smear-type brush strokes of olive, brown and green and adding details like the red on the scar or the white on the beard really make a huge difference. Glad to be happy with a mini, since the last 3 I did I thought were way below even my standarts.
>>94488212He kinda fruity for that, imagine baking cookies and personally bringing them to your homies. Does he also include a little pink paper cutout heart that says "Enjoy!"? Be careful bro...
>>94489073reminds me of darkest dungeon, the eyes being obscured specificallyTangent aside, holy shit that is beatiful
>>94489073This>You know you're about to see some S-tier paintjobs when the dude has this void chamber lmaowas meant for >>94487448
>>94489104Uhh, yeah, this isn't on purpose haha. I just don't know how to paint eyes. I went with the skin color over the entire head and left the eyes as they are, I think it's just an optical illusion, because of how the light falls or maybe the mini is just designed that way.>holy shit that is beatifulTh-thanks, but no need to exaggerate haha, but thanks, I am happy with him too, for my level this one is the best since 3 or 4 miniatures while also being the fastest, I think cause I finally got a fine brush to add some details and used more than 1 color on the clothes it came out that way. He'll definitely become a protagonist in my solo RPG.
>>94488772Corona is still a thing?
>>94489143>I think it's just an optical illusion, because of how the light fallsah, that must be the case then if the light source is significantly above the model>I am happy with him tooGlad to hear that, that's by far the most important thing when it comes to models
It may be stupid but i'm actually really proud of how smooth and nice the red looks on this model.I'm conflicted in the loincloth though, i was considering either a basic cloth with a Chaos star, or break it up a bit and make it a piece of banner from one loyalist chapter from the badab war. Maybe novamarines, since they're dark blue and white
>>94489167the stealth generator is working
>>94489167Forgot pic again i'm fucking retarded excuse me while i drink bleach
>>94489167Bro forgot to post the image he is referencing to!LMFAO
>>94489177Oooh that's very very clean, really fucking smooth anon, solid work
>>94487292>>94487802probably heard it a 1000 times but prime in white spray, brush application is tough even for experienced painters. Also for the casing there's a few options, you could paint it in brass or do it black with a teal edge highlight.
>>94489189I know right? I almost feel bad because i plan to add some weathering to it after its done
>>94489177How did you do it? Just paint it on carefully or some recipe?
>>94489244Personally, if I was in this situation. I wouldn't add weathering, and fluff him as a Slaneesh devote, dedicated to having his armour perfectly clean and maintained. That is of course unless you run a mono-god warband. But that's my preference/idea.
>>94489031>Why is 2019 secret santa redacted?I didn't start maintaining the Secret Santa galleries until 2021. Whoever compiled the 2019 gallery either removed it, or had it removed for him. I still have the link, but it doesn't go anywhere.
>>94489276>it's lostechI see, thank you anon
>>94489280>lostechSadly, I don't think this one will be coming back, Helm Core or not.
>>94489256i just did a few thin coats of mephiston red over mecanicus standard grey and then did more thin coats with diluted evil sunz scarlet. i honestly have no idea how i did iti chalk it to the fact that evil sunz scarlet is an amazing red paint, better than most citadel paint in my opinion
>>94484740Finally finished everything, I'll be sending the parcel monday.
>getting ready to paint up a model as part of my secret santa>like half of my paints are chunked to shit after years of sitting in storageI'm sorry
>>94489481sounds like a good excuse to get some more paint
When does Wargames Atlantic the Damned come out? Is it still in production or did it already happen?
>>94487779And done for now. The wet oil is throwing off the camera a bit but the right side of the face will need the midtone fixed, the purple shadow was overpowering the midtone quite a bit while blending. I'll wait for it to dry a bit then come back and reinforce the midtone. Not perfect but its complete, again not letting perfect be the enemy of finished.
S.B. Anon in NYC, your package has finally been sent out. You didn't exactly make it easy with that short wishlist, but I think you'll like what's inside. Here's to hoping the package arrives safely and you have a very Merry Christmas.
>>94489158Yes. It's basically just a cold like every sane person said.
Now Vallejo workers are on strike? jeez
>>94489158it will always be, but as most virus of its kind only the mildest variants persistso like any other annual flu
>>94489628>main demands are an "improvement in safety and hygiene"how fucking bad it has to be lol
>>94489704and it's spain too, so as bad as you're imagining, it's at least twice as bad.
>>94489720spain has good worker protections so for those to be the main demands they have to have it pretty rough
>>94489720South Europe is fucking bonkers when it comes to both work conditions and work ethic.
>>94489704wait what? How bad is the hygiene at the vallejo factory?I put those paints in my mouth!!
>>94489732Muchísimo AIDS
>>94486596>>94486626Yep the old IPA and toothbrush method still works fine on these. They were in there for around 8 hours I think. Could do with a bit longer I think. I'll try them again tomorrow to see if they are warped at all.
>>94489753you mean SIDA
I asked this a while ago:I really want a portable way to contain lots of paints (or even other hobby supplies) because even though I have some desk space dedicated to hobby stuff, I can't justify taking 60% of it up with paint stands.Tackle boxes are commonly stupid but could work depending on what I can find.Somebody suggested a sewing kit, which seems like it could be an interesting option, but I couldn't really find a good example of what they meant. What are your recommendations for portable paints and hobby kit?
>>94489761Thanks man. How different is that material from the old spongy(?) clix stuff? Also, what % IPA did you use? 99%, or will 91% suffice (asking since that's what I have on hand for cleaning various stuff)
>>94489704They put all their soap in the paint now, hence the bubbles.
Hey folks, it looks like Green Stuff World is having a Black Friday sale and while I know a lot of their stuff tends to skew on the 'cheap quality' end of things, I was curious if there are any hidden games you'd recommend since it is a sale.I was already considering getting some 3D-printed weapon/missile effects, but I'm always down to bundle some stuff if it's a flat percentage off.
>>94489793I'm the anon that recommended the sewing kit, this is what I was envisioning. They also make larger ones that are free standing if you have more room, doesn't that much floor space and it accordion folds out when you need to grab something.
>>94489819The IPA I have is apparently 100%, so must be 99%. No idea what the clix ones are made out of so I couldn't tell you. You could just test it out on one model first. Check in every hour or so and see how it is.
>>94489842Their 3D-printed stuff is generally small but okay. If you can't print your own, I don't see a reason why not get them. The rollers are also pretty good, but their store has a tendency to send you incorrect types for some strange reason. But the thing I have from them that is just awesome is the "roll maker." If you make (or want to make) your own pipes, cables, ropes, tentacles, etc., from the green stuff, this makes it really fast and really nice. And the results are just fantastic. I also have some of their basing sets, and they are okay. Especially if you are too lazy to gather your own resources for bases.
>>94489854Ugh, I'll get some 99% then. And yeah, failing all reliable confirmation I plan to test on a less important model first.
>>94489863>The rollers are also pretty goodI don't know if they fixed it or it differs from roller to roller, but I had one of those and it sucked ass, leaving noticeable traces of 3D-print lines on the rolled bases.
>>94489863Ah, it's unfortunate if their 3D-printed stuff isn't the best. I simply don't see the need just yet for a 3D printer (lord knows I have a backlog of unopened minis) but getting some weapon effects sounded fun. In this case I'll pass and instead check out Etsy for independent providers of 3D-printed effects. Thanks!
>>94489704To clarify, that's in relation to the maintenance of the factory floor and the machinery. This lady from the union outlines the 3 main grievances https://bsky.app/profile/cgtcatalunya.bsky.social/post/3lbxf5taocs22>Poor working conditions and the danger that workers suffer in terms of facilities and machinery. >A salary increase (since the gap between managers and workers is abysmal and we are experiencing a precarious salary in our lives) of 15%. The company has said no to all negotiations.>Additionally, we ask for an active harassment protocol that protects us and that works correctly.
>>94489870Yeah I bought giant bottle of it off amazon or something years ago and used it to strip the paint off like one model and then never touched it. But I've been using it so much recently. I've cleaned stains off clothes and carpet, clean my airbrush with it and just anything else in the house really. I slept on it for too many years. Just a little bit on a cotton bud goes a long way.
>>94489870my local hardware stores sell ipa for 18 euros per liter but i buy mine from ebay for 4 euros per liter and they deliver straight to my doorstep
>>94489878I mean, their 3D printed stuff is absolutely adequate. The prints are high quality, there are usually no visible marks or deformations. Picrel, their skulls, for example, I like better than GWs. And they are cheaper. It's just looking at it from a perspective of someone who can print his own stuff, it's generally a bit pricey, imo.I can also make you a pics of their natural stuff. >>94489877I have two and they are both good. I wouldn't be surprised if the quality control sucked dick, though.
>>94485749Last progress picture because I only have to do the gold on the big guy before moving on to basing. Now with proper lighting, too
Is there any value in doing a soap and warm water bath and then air drying a mini(plastic, not resin) before it's first paintjob? Will the primer adhere better? Will the skin oils of handling be significant enough to matter? These are fresh mini's, not stripped.
>>94490325for plastic is usually not needed unless you handled it a lot like when doing coversions or putty work, but it never hurts either
LH from CA your package has been received. Is there anything perishable I should fish out before Christmas?
>>94489842They got some cool resin bits, I guess. If you're hunting for milliput or green stuff, their price is pretty good. I don't know if it's a recent thing but the sale is kind of lame and probably benefits a EU than anyone else overseas.
What's the best way to get superglue out of a paintbrush?
Finally finished Lemartes. Last mini of the year since I'll be moving in a week.
>>94490600I don't know if you can. Superglue is designed so that you can't just melt a bond. Like IPA wouldn't work, heating or freezing it wouldn't. Once it's solid, it's basically just a solid hunk of plastic I think. That brush is probably dead.
>>94490621Very nice, but also just hit me that I don't really get why people paint space marines. I don't get the appeal. It looks so boring. I started on 40k orkz and then eventually expanded out to whatever fantasy stuff I could find that looked cool.
>>94490647It was the army my son wanted me to play since he has orks. I only started with this shit back in January but I've recently branched out into IG. But once I get moved into my new plan is to start on Necromunda with the rule that every mini has to be kitbashed in some way.
>>94490635That's a shame, it was one of my favourite brushes
>>94489536Last update was on August 9th. Still has not released.
>>94490370OPEN IIIIIIIIIT
>>94490600Leave it in acetone for 3+ hours. Of course, it may wreck the brush hair and/or the ferrule as well.
>>94490370Nothing except the dead rat. Unless the cum jar started leaking.
>>94490600You could try a superglue remover.
>>94490675>It was the army my son wanted me to play since he has orksYou raised that boy good.
Is Army Painter's Desert Yellow a good match for GW's Zandri Dust?
>>94491064https://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/paint_range_compatibility_chartChart says its closer to tallarn sand, zandri dust looks a tiny bit lighter.
>>94489842You have to blow 50 euro to get the deal but I have a few of their 3d prints to use for base deco and they are pretty decent. Still attached to the supports so they are safe during shipping, only one of the 6 blisters I got had a part that broke free of them. They seem to be kind of multi scale, the smallest to middle a good size for our hobby 28-32mm figs, and the larger ones would be good for very large models. The shrooms for ex. are much nicer than what I would have been able to sculpt but the larger ones are pretty big for a regular sized model, but should fit okay on something like a dragons or giant spiders base. Also, get their metallic pigments if you need some good metallic 'paint' that would never dry out on you. I have the gold and it's awesome.Their other basing materials are pretty much the same as other quality materials from elsewhere.
Why does Vallejo primer smell so good? Like dangerously good.
>>94489177I've been watching to see what you were going to do with that loincloth. I always have trouble deciding myself.
>>94491141Does it taste as good as it smells?
>>94489842their 3d prints are really nice, I've got a bunch of their plant stuff. Many people swear by the texture rollers, but I have the same issue as >>94489877. If you can overlook that they are very useful, I just can't, it's too noticeable for me.
>>94487240Gesso. Thinned 2 drops of distilled water to every 4 drops of gesso. Gloop it on but not too thick and watch for puddles, it shrinks as it dries but puddles still look bad. After about 6 hrs drying time do a second coat the same way. I recommend you prime a chunk of sprue to see how it works and how thick you put it on first.
>>94484971I don't have a problem with moldlines unless I batch painting a full unit, it's pretty tedious then but I still do it. I just do each piece starting at one sprue clip spot all the way around. Even though I take care, I still miss one or two now and then. and Yes I will scrape it primer and all if I catch it and reprime the spot.
>>94491141brother... do not give in to the temptation.>>94491169nope. it tastes like fuckin nintendo switch cartages
>>94491141nah, the primer stinks. Now the sand texture on the other hand...
>>94486387Frighteningly sexual dragon dildo. Seriously, though, nice work, very crisp.
>>94486474That's a really pretty orange, I like this whole thing. Dude should be proud.
>>94489940Very nice.
my wet palette smells a little weird is that mold from the water?
>>94491501Probably. Speaking of which.>Notice little mold spot on my sponge>I clean mold from other things with vinegar, so that will probably kill it>Soak the sponge in vingegar for a short while>Rinse it out, put it back in and get back to painting>A day passes>Open my wet palette>The sponge is almost entirely covered in mold nowDon't do what I did.
>>94491521isn't a stronger acid better?
>>94491537Doing literally nothing would have been better than what I did, so probably.
>>94491521>check mine>also moldcan paper towels work as a disposable alternative to sponges?
>The smell IS moldOk so apparently if you soak it in bleach for a bit then throw it in the dryer you can remove mold
Guys. When you set up your wet palette just mix in some high% IPA with the water and you won't get any mold for a long time and all the IPA will evaporate out pretty quickly.
>>94491572Yep, just lay 1 or 2 sheets down in the tray and add a little bit of water. Works fine. That's what I used until I bought a proper one.
Still working on my marvel protocol core set. I also am working on the xmen and magneto sets.
>Friday evening. Time to sit down and get some hobby work done>time to clean up and sand the giant gaps I filled on some hollow monopose stuff for 2 hours without taking a single other piece off the sprueWhat funwhat fun...

>>94491841Did you make pew pew sounds and fly it around?
>>94490370Yes please get the snacks out. They should be fine in theory but not sure with temperature fluctuations in transit. I really hope you enjoy anon, and that nothing got rained on! Merry Christmas.
>>94491879nta but sometimes I get my tanks and go "brrr brrr reee reeowww mruuuu murruuuu err" and drive it around the table when I'm waiting for my opponent to finish his 4th smoke break before turn 3
>>94491904You're a good man, Charlie brown
>>94484738Okay anons I have a question, and even though I dont airbrush or paint, the question is related to air compressors used for air brushing. I have taken interest in it before due to having 3d printers and seeing alot of useful (at least looks useful) stuff you can 3d print for this hobby.Anyways, I wanted to buy an air compressor with air tank (initially, I believe changed due to what I have found online) because I just wanted to have compressed air and some of these have auto stop when not in use or it turns on when in use, but I just plan to use it as a air dust blower for various things, maybe in the future at some point I plan to experiment with pneumatic pistons but like simple ones nothing crazy that needs a lot of compression or whatever. Since I live in an apartment, noise level was also a factor, and I was wanting to know what are your thoughts on these portable air compressors? I am open to suggestions for alternatives. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806677604417.htmlhttps://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806824389364.htmlhttps://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805315038260.html
WTF is this? Never had this happen before. The tip of my dropper bottle came off.....Is this normal? Have a bunch of Vallejo droppers and never had this happen before.
>>94491929Just get this thing. It's a mass produced Chineseum air compressor that's been the workhorse of the hobby world for years. There's no limit to the companies selling the thing so you'll probably be able to find one you like. I live an apartment and use it to airbrush. No complaints yet, but it's loud enough that I only use it during the day. I wouldn't turn this on at night when it's more quiet. But it's way more quiet than a vacuum or a blender or other household stuff you use.
>>94492101130? I got that thing for 50 about a year ago.
>>94492122That's Australian dollars.
>>94489842Their decorations are okay. I have a printer, so not for me, but if you don't have one and don't know anyone, I don't see that stuff being more expensive than elsewhere. It's a niche product, but their window decorations (for windows of Warhammer ruins ofc.) are great and out of laziness it's my go to place for things like rods and sheets of plastic card, little chains, barbed wire etc.
Did they change the color of Rakarth flesh? Because what I got looks like I've added a dark wash to it.https://youtu.be/No_XA0gIcMI?si=UP6hPkCDcmg0yPAs&t=236
>>94492300Idk, but are you painting over black? Also, I don't know how you managed to get that texture but you should probably thin your paints or *something* anyway. If I had to guess, I would think you're painting it over black instead of light grey, and you did a lot of coats to try and get coverage and didn't give them enough time to dry between layers.
Every time this gesso-fag says gesso I think about Sabrina Carpenter.
>>94492300Eugh what's up with that texture? Is it on purpose? Like flayed skin or something? And it wouldn't surprise me if they did change it. Citadel changes their colours without saying anything. I think I still have the old recipe of their Rhinox Hide which is one of my favourite paints to use, but apparently they changed it and it's shit now.
>>94492300>They're posting muddy capes...
>>94491176>>94489877I have a roller, from ages ago, and it does not have any print lines at all. My assumption is that they switched from however they made them originally to 3d-printing them when printers became better/cheaper/more widespread. So if people praise those roles, it might be that they had theirs for 5+ years? That said, i should use mine a bit more often.. i haven't touched it in ages.
I've started to paint my Ebay-Catachans + Brood Brother bits kill team. Boots and Belts/Pouches will become a dark redish brown.Since Catachans are such old models (and i have a bit of nostalgia for them, hence not using the better "SpaceNam") i will do their gun casings in red. That leaves the few bits of armor they have. Helmets, Flak Vests and Shoulders on some of them.. I was thinking black or dark grey? Anyone got a better idea?I'm really lost, and i'm afraid if i use green to match the Jungle-theme, it will be too much together with the fatigues?
>>94491730This is me.finishing up doc oct. What do you guys think?
>>94492531I think speedpaints on a low detail model like that don't work very well.
>>94492599I would argue that it's a perfect use case for contrast paint because it gives it a comic book, cartoony look.

>>94492646Why can't you just use alcohol?
>>94492508Anon, there's something off about your Catachans.
>>94492531>Doctor, it's 2024! You can't do blackface anymore, you're gonna get cancelled!
>>94492062Yeah it's happened to me on some of the cheap droppers I transferred my citadel paints too. Think it happens when the lid is over tightened (either by hand or in the factory). If it's new you should ask for a replacement.
>>94492062>Is this normal? Have a bunch of Vallejo droppers and never had this happen before. That's not very typical, I'd like to make that point.
>>94492062had that happen with an air pot too, i used a toothpick on the dropper to close it until i got new bottles
>>94492062I've had that happen a couple of times. By couple I mean like 2 out of more than a hundred vallejo dropper bottles.Losing the tip is the sign that its an American bottle. Or just a flaw in the manufacturing process. If you have an empty one sitting around you can cannibalize the lid from it otherwise you're kind of fucked and it'll dry out.
>Bought Revell Contacta Professional>It's absolute garbage to glue models togetherFUCKING HELL I HATE THIS SHIT
>>94492967Skill issue. Also make sure you turn it upright and squeeze the bottle to clear the tube (preferable in some paper towel) before capping.
>>94492967It has its issues due to the long and thin noozle, but the glue itself is not worse than other thicker plastic glue.
>>94492972Just have a lighter at hand to heat the noozle if it is clogged
>>94492991I just keep a thin piece of wire. The needle is useful enough for larger models to use despite its clogging.
>>94492312>blackNo I'm painting over white.>>94492386I'm new to painting and painted this over a poorly applied white base.>>94492480I JUST WANT A WHITE COAT>picThe original color
>>94492062it happens. Either overtightened the cap, too much paint in the cap which lead to too much tightness too or just bad manufacturing batch. Just happened to me with a scale75 bottle while I was shaking it. Do not recommend
>>94493032either strip and start over or sand the cape only and start over, it looks like you painted it with stucco
>>94493032Well now you know that rakarth flesh is a dogshit paint. Strip this thing, throw the rakarth flesh in the garbage and get yourself duncan's griffon claw, it's almost an exact same shade and actually covers smoothly
Anyone got the image of yellowish paints and shade combos?
Only 2 more wings to paint, cant wait to move on to basecoating the final details and applying my beloved nuln oil
>>94489842Their opaque red/green/purple are great, they're somewhat greyish but as opaque as the can says so you don't have to do several coats.Sadly I bought their yellow and tan expecting the same results but those are as shitty as any other yellow or tan.Colorshift paints are always fun to use but really situational
>>94492101Agree, I also got a random chinesium compressor of this model and it's been going strong for 3 years now. Also nice that it takes standard fittings, and I agree the noise isnt too bad as I also used it in an apartment without issue.
>>94493219I'm digging the purple pink against the green, looking forward to seeing them completed.
What's some easy and cheap DIY way to add some height to a base? I don't mean making the mini stand on a piece of cork but more like adding bumps on a big base so it looks more natural
>>94493487I used fish tank rocks for bumps under mud and stuff. They are small and you can get a big bag for stupid cheap.
Almost finished, just need to give them a little touch up.
>>94492508The catachan minis do not hold up in 2024. Arms are way too big. I'd strongly recommend swapping to GSC arms. The bodies/legs are fine>>94492635Thanks!Not sure if you mean the painting or the green stuff, but the green stuff robe extensions are great for covering the arms I had to tear shields off of
>>94493562That's a lot of dust binsThe trim looks clean for the most part, nice work
Got a nice package from german Anon today and it is great. The vanguard box is perfect for my growing Nurgle army and I can say that I have taken a glance at the dragon from Dungeons and Lasers more then once so it will be perfect on the shelf I got for displaying larger stuff. The goblins in the globe took a beating so they will need some love and care but then it will go on the tree. Thank you so much! And merry christmas WIP:ers!
>>94493815Wonder how my Santa is doing. I already sent mine (and got confirmation it landed)
Just painted my first minis, but they look so flat. How 2 add detail
>>94493863Spam nuln oil
>>94493815>sadly my year wasn't that good for my income>just the maggotkin and dragon are around 150 eur
>>94493875I tried adding shade to another mini but they just ended up looking dirty
Any color suggestions for this heretics fur? also if i kepe getting light speckley tide marks on my glaze do i have too much water or an overloaded brush? I used glaze medium>>94493886NTAadd water to the nuln oil and apply it one layer at a time. it will looks less dirty. or just paint it into the cracks as best you can then paint over the raised parts so it doesn't all look dirty
>>94493886Don't use nuln oil/black wash unless you want black on your minis (like on dark steel/gunmetal or dark colors). For middle/dirty warm colors use dark wash/dark tone/Agrax, for lighter stuff like flesh soft tone/sepia or a flesh wash is better. If you're not sure, paint a bit of sprue (glue 2-3 pieces into one blob for an irregular shape) in that color to test the wash first. It's a hassle, but better than shitting all over the mini you just basecoated.
Doing all i can to avoid the loincloth dilemma. Will post another when its done.Trying to do as little gold as possible, i hate it
>>94493815holy that is a really nice gift
>>94493815If I get matched with a German anon next year I'm unironically sending him something from my cast collection of Nazi paraphernalia.
>>94493879The Dragon is around 20, and Vanguard boxes can be found for around 90. Maybe its from his backlog, so dont judge.

>>94492630never played age of sigmar before but i really want to play as skaven since i played a lot of vermintide 2.but with the brief research i did, i saw they were going to release some sort of model revision of them soon? so i guess i gotta play the waiting game for now.

>>94494779
>>94494661Yeah, Skaven got pretty popular due to Vermintide and Total War, so the guess is that they're updating the Skaven line to cater to the new demand. Who knows how long that'll take though.

>>94492101>I wouldn't turn this on at night when it's more quiet. While I may not find myself using it at night, it might be an overkill for me but like this anon said >>94493468 about taking standard fittings I may do it since standard compatibility just removes a lot of headaches speaking from experience with other stuff.
>>94493616DamnWish I could sculpt like that
>>94495101It's very easyThe arms are made with oyumaru mouldsThe cloth is made by rolling green stuff with a rolling pin between two sheets of baking paper, and, exposing to air for 30 minutes, then cutting with a knife.Same process for bandages and the sling
>>94495123What were the arms for the mould?
>>94493863Hit them with black wash, then dry brush on the base colors and highlight.
>>94493815Nice gift.
>>94493815Have you opened the maggotkin box yet anon? Maybe take a look into it.>>94493879It really is just from my backlog
>>94493815>>94495473Also yea I should have secured the globe better in hindsight
>>94493616You are right, the Catachans (and in particular their heads and arms) can't compete with any modern minis. But that was kinda part of the appeal. As i wrote, i could have used the Spacenam by WGA for modern and better sculpted Catachans. But when i saw those ugly painted guys on ebay, i remembered how i used them like 20 years ago to convert chaos cultists for my Alpha Legion army, kinda using the same techniques as this guy who sold them used. So this is more of an nostalgia project, and not really a try to make good looking catachans. (thats a nice idea in itself tho, i have some bodies left, and i might print some spacenam parts and see if they match or not).
finally done with all the basecoats>>94493483thanks, i did a few with AP Basilisk Red and the rest with screamer pink - dont expect too much though, this is my second batch of minis and i made quite a few mistakes
>>94493032>white baseNo, not base, did you prime it white? Primer would never have that texture. Did you prime it at all? Also strip it and start again. Nothing wrong with stripping when you make a mistske.

>>94495473Holy shit anon,I opened it now and that makes it even better. It was mainly the Blightlords I was after in that box. And I am of course building a Death guard army as well. And now the card make alot more sense. Thank you!
Anyone here ever use AK interactive on 40k minis? It says it's for melting plastic bits together. Tamiya cement is just absurdly priced for some reason. So I'm looking for an alternative
>>94496801Tamiya paint for comparison.... others are recommending the airbrush cleaner because it's basically the same chemical but it doesn't come with a brush and it's still more pricey than the ak interactive. For some reason nobody has any info online about AK interactive cement.
>>94496812Go to your local Hobby Lobby (or anywhere that carries scale models). Pick up a bottle of Mr Cement. Done, no shipping involved, and I'm pretty sure it's even cheaper than the AK stuff. Works great.
>>94489842>Hey folksWhy are you like this

>>94496968That's not the exact bottle I use, but I'm not home to check the name right now. Mine has a blue cap. But as far as I know all the variations are fine, just meant for different things.
>>94496801>>94496812>>944969681) Buy one bottle of Tamiya Thin Cement. If you already have an empty bottle, you can skip this step. 2) Buy a large plastic bottle of Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner. >>94497092Anon where the fuck do you live. Thin usually goes around $12. Half of that in Europe.
>>94497109Also, you can mix your own. It's very simple, like elementary school tier of chemistry simple. If you do, you can make a 2L bottle of it and it will cost you pennies.
>>94497120For anyone interested: Thin Cement is basically 50% acetone + 50% butyl acetate. The percentages actually go like 49% and 51%, but that is irrelevant. The simplest approach is to buy nail polish removers. They are cheap as fuck, and you can get both pure 100% acetone formula and non-acetone, which is either methyl acetate or butyl acetate. Then just mix the bitches together 50/50, and you're done. Do it ideally outside or in a well-ventilated room. You can make like half a liter of that shit under $10.

>>94496812 Protip; tamiya airbrush cleaner is literally the exact same formula as the extra thin cement and you get 6x as much in a bottle for a few extra dollars.
>>94490370Anon I hope you did end up getting the snacks out...
New shelf for my minis.
>>94498193imagine the dust
>buy a size 1 >fucking love it still using it years later with no issuesWorth it to buy series 7 size 2 or 3 for larger models?
>Getting tired of losing my tip>Try licking the brush instead of using the back of my hand to wipe off water>Hasn't lost its tip all paint sessionOh no.
>>94498193>>94498239One day my setup will be complete but for now its looking good I think

After years of avoiding it, I'm trying to force myself to learn how to paint skin so that I can paint my KDM minis when they arrive. It's so fucking haaaard. I think this is probably ok for the tabletop, but I have a lot to work on. I really struggle finding the balance between thinning and coverage. I'm constantly going between having solid transitions that I need to fix and the paint only coming off in droplets.
>>94498683It looks pretty good to me. The feet look a little too bright but, just an observation. The thing I have learned the most about painting is that you don't have to stress too much about getting perfect details on something that is intended to actually be used. Nobody is going to pick up your minies off the table and talk shit because you didn't get a perfect gradient transition, and if they do, they are a fucking asshole and you probably don't want to play games with them anyway.
>>94498698Oh for sure, I've learnt that as well. I'll spend weeks on a mini and then when I put it on the table I can barely see it. This is more just for me. I want to e able to make the non-game minis I have look great.
>>94498705Oh, i get it. I'm the same way. Everything i paint is to be used but I still spend hours on every one and only fixate on the mistakes.
>>94498683I'm doing much the same and working though my backlog of minis showing a lot of skin. Painting up a WH ogre at the moment. It's difficult, and i rich up a lot, but I think I'm getting better. I'm trying out the "Zorn" pallette: using only ochre, dark brown, and red (+ some pure white and black in limited amounts). I'm following a piece of advice I heard and am mixing each shade of skin from scratch instead of lightening what I already have. It's been really good practice, and, while I'm not always able to get the exact tone I want, I am usually able to do something with the mix. I'd share pics, but I can't treat a photo for the life of me. Even the ones I'm proud of look like shit with this phone.
>>94498778>I'd share pics, but I can't treat a photo for the life of me. Even the ones I'm proud of look like shit with this phone.I know this feel. I'm due for a new phone soon so that might improve. I've had mine for like 6+ years.
I'm thinking mordant earth over the same green as the flames for the base but I'm open to suggestions as well as general c&c.
>>94497292Who gives a fuck? Let them sue if it's true, not my problem.>>94497324Other way round, you find something sold on GSW that's a quarter the price on AliExpress. And please make it something anyone cares about.
>>94496885>Pick up a bottle of Mr Cement. Done, no shipping involved,Except next to nobody stocks it. Here its all Revell and Tamiya, and if you are lucky and have a well stocked store, they will have AK, MIG and some other brands from spain.
>>94497092So instead of spending 30 for a huge bottle, you intend to spend 15 for a tiny bottle like this? >>94496968And in 3 months you come back, crying your glue is empty?
question in regards to those wet palettes:Do I still thin the paint? Normally I do one drop of paint and one drop of water. would I do that too on the wet palette or just a drop of paint on the sheet and go to town?
>>94499646It Depends™. You always want to test the consistency of your paint, dry or wet palette doesn't change that.
>>94499646It's supposed to keep your paint wet, not dilute it. If your paper is too porous, significant amounts of water might seep through, in which case you may need to thin your paint less, but that's not supposed to happen.
I’m painting up a converted coalescence and want to try that uhu glue slime effect on it, gonna try it like this? I’m not sure on the colour to go for, if more green would better or if I just went for black goo for a stronger contrast, any ideas? Anyone used the glue goo effect before?
>>94499225Honestly my usual advice when a hobby isn't well supported in your region is to just not do the hobby.
>>94500174That is a stupid advice.
>>94500174Have you heard of this amazing invention called the internet that lets you buy stuff from all around the world without leaving your house?
>>94500174retarded advice.
>>94500323>>94500178not in all cases you can end up paying a lot of money for a disappointing time and thanks to the internet FOMO can drive you into making purchases you can never make use of. Ton of people in generals here are in that situation, with literal 3k point FW resin armies they've never used and regret ever buying.
>>94500411being retarded consoomers is their own problem
>>94500411Your inherently stupid "advice" has nothing to do with a different problem of making stupid purchases.
>>94500488>>94500425you aren't responding to >>94500174 and it has nothing to do with what purchases you make, spending ANY money to end up dissatisfied is not worthwhile even if you like the idea of the hobby, which on paper is more interesting than the reality of maybe playing one game with a coerced relative once a year and struggling to develop skills that never get you anywhere. I know you identify yourselves with the hobby but doesn't mean you need to coerce people into it when it isn't worthwhile for them to do so like some kind of obnoxious Jehovahs Witnesses.
>>94500512>talk about how X is stupid.>yes, but what about Y, that is also very stupid>no anon, X is still stupid, Y is a different problem>NO, Y IS STUPID, AND YOU ARE ALSO ZSperg-kun, pls...
>>94500530not my fault you don't understand anything about the human psyche and how people come to be interested or curious about hobbies.
>>94500174Since when "well supported" mean "have company I like in stock"?To turn problem around, /m/ and /toy/ have frequent posts from people complaining about having to ship precious, top quality lacquer paint, stirred thousand times, from Japan because these "shitty acrylics" absolutely won't do! How can you even consider doing something less than P-E-R-F-E-C-T-L-Y, surface smooth even under transmission microscope! Meanwhile other people just paint their plastic robots and other scale models with whatever paint they have and are happy. But by this logic, they shouldn't even touch the hobby in first place and leave it for Japanese masters.
>>94500512what the actual fuck are you talking about lol
A bit more progress on Night Lords warrior. First time trying to do lightning, is it a bit shit?
>>94500650Yeah, it's pretty bad unfortunately. I think you need thinner and more random lines. The dot highlights are also too stark and look off.
Is this make up silicone pad good for cleaning brush?
>>94500650Lightning is tricky to get the hang of, there's a good vid here from an ex-GW painter where he shows a pretty solid process for it https://youtu.be/rJVzR3A3n-A?t=1194
>>94500782Ideally you're rinsing your brush often enough that you won't get any build up, but this may work with brush soap to massage paint free. Or it could be horrible and break your bristles in the middle of the belly, no way to know unless you try it out.
>>94500650Yeah the lighting is abit crap, rest of the model looks good, I think going over it again with a thin coat might make it abit better Like >>94500692 says, needs to be more random but its a good starting point, least you can see what you were attempting , next time you'll do even better
>>94500116Maybe do the green then put a dark brown or black wash on top of it once dry to get the best of both worlds?
