What system do you think handles blackpowder firearms the best?"Best" ofcourse being open ended, but I also like being able to fight with a bayonet at the end of a musket.
>>96924687Honor+Intrigue.Lethal. Accessible. A little unreliable.
>>96924687Blackpowder weapons evolved a great deal during the over 400 years that handguns were being used in Europe. 15th Century "handgonnes" were very different from 19th Century repeating rifles, where early ones were basically shitty but cheap crossbows that sometimes exploded, and late ones were capable of reliably killing someone a kilometer away and basically never exploded unless you fucked something up.
WRFP 4e.Dangerous, yet everyone wants to have one (if possible). Do tremendous damage, force tests on the opponent to not run away in fear (beasts and monsters are especially bad at it), armor penetration. Multiple different weapons from good old blunderbusses to more advanced Warhammer bullshit.
>>96926396>were capable of reliably killing someone a kilometer awayyou sure made a lot of errors in the word "accidentally"for context in the armies of 20th century the designated marksman role is meant to extend the squad's range to roughly 500m
>>96924687Oh look, we didn't have guns thread for like 3 days
>>96924687Gunslingers and Gamblers.>b-but blackpowderDid I stutter?
>>96927461That's after those same armies figured out by WW1 that having a service rifle marked for 1800 meters is kinda pointless, even if they were all in vogue since at the very least 1870s in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War, but still kept doing that until WW2 told them that yeah, this is completely pointless. Those guns were perfectly capable of delivering the shot. The issue being - you won't be doing with mechanical aparatus, and the designated marksmen weren't even a thing until WW1 developments.tl;dr it was a doctrinal thing that was completely fucking pointless, but nobody stopped it until two global conflicts made all the involved militaries realise how stupid this is
>>96927615>and the designated marksmen weren't even a thing until WW1 developments.I mean, squads weren't really a thing until WWI, so you can't have squad marksmen. But I think that an argument can be made that the light infantry companies that most battalions fielded in the Napoleonic Wars occupied something of the same niche, though probably not at more than 200 yards or so, not least of which because many of them were equipped with the same muskets as everyone else. Hell, the French didn't even give rifles to their designated light infantry battalions.
>>96924687Sword World >erm they're actually magitech casting devices from a lost age that simply ACT as single loaded lever action firearmsDon't care. Still the coolest, funnest fantasy firearms I've ever experienced
>>96924698This. Especially, if you combo it with the optional rule that makes most damage based on how well you roll to hit instead of separate damage roll, except firearms which are still rolled damage. Meaning that you have to roll pretty good to land a big damage sword hit instead of chip damage, but even a glancing hit with a gun can fuck you up... with the counterbalance that reloading a gun takes multiple rounds.
>>96924687>open endedThe system you make for you and make compromises with your group for.Nine times out of ten, an arbiter will have to make edits for him and his group's enjoyment anyway, so the best system will always be one that's tailor made to the group's interests to begin with.>b-but I d-don't h-have t-time to m-make o-oneStill doesn't change that being your best option. There's no such thing as a miracle system that works for everyone straight out of the box, that's just how TTRPGs are.Either make what's best for your group, or do research for a TTRPG whose mechanics closest resemble what you're looking for.
>>96927855Squads were very much a thing pre-WW1. Squad-level organisation - not so much, and emerging unevenly. Also, light infantry isn't for marksmanship, it's for harassing enemy. By ALL means possible. So whatever disrupts enemy formation most works. But back to rifles - even in blackpowder ammo, they had this idiotic concept that if you can make a rifle that delivers bullets at 1500+ meters, then you should do that, even if there is no real benefit to it, nobody can aim that well with just mechanicals (or at least not the ones of the era) and your typical skirmish is at 300-500 meters TOP. But because Napoleonic Era and its direct aftermath suddenly have to deal with volleys exchanged at 150-200 meters and being semi-accurate, everyone got this weird idea that if they make better ranged weapons and better aim, then it will just naturally continue this way. So by Franco-Prussian War everyone observed as the French could outrange the Germans (never mind this came solely from the fault of the seal of Dreyse rifles, rather than anything else) and observing this, Prussian-Austrian war prior and the results of ACW, all major militaries got it into their head that they need guns with max range AND max aiming devices (ignoring the fact all they needed was a reliable fire up to 300 meters and then a simple set to 500).For a whole bunch of idiotic reasons, this was kept as a thing until WW2 wrapped. Only Italians made the right bet, making their rifles for 400 meters, no settings at all... but the program got cancelled and they were given shitty rifles with adjustable sights instead.Hell, back when battle rifles were a thing, they were STILL trying to cram adjustable sights on them with more setting than two.
>>96924698yes
>>96924687I want a setting that has been stagnant for so long that guns are as old and symbolic as swords or shields.
>>96929646/thread
>>96927615>designated marksmen weren't even a thing until WW1 developmentsThe 1st Volunteer Sharpshooter Regiment of the US Civil War would beg to disagree with you, as would Morgan's Rifles of the Revolutionary War.
>>96924687Cool look. always like the puritian-1600s look and alaus liked this specific semi-abstracted final fantasy style.
>>96941569Not integrated into other units.
>>96941569>It has "sharpshooter" in the names, so it countsAsk me how I know how you have no fucking clue what the hell you are even talking about
>>96940446The Dark Tower.
>>96924687RPG or wargame?
>>96924698Basically it is where I wish WFRP 2e's black powder was. Pretty devastating and lethal alpha strike accessible to just about anyone, but it's still going to come down to knifework most of the time.
>>96946688(Newfags won't get this)
>>96947131>glazing stephen kingSorry unc, I don't watch/read pedoslop.
>>96924698Seen so much shilling for this lately, what's going on
>>96949747Most people hadn't heard of it at all. A few people who tried it told other people it was good, those people tried it, and now they also say it is good. Its called word of mouth. Though in this case, you have to remember that /tg/ at this point is like 50 guys tops if you don't count the bots, so you only need a couple of them to like Honor+Intrigue for it get over-represented in threads, especially when the average life expectancy for a thread on /tg these days is approaching a month. Its a lightweight system with really solid combat mechanics that focuses on its style of play and does it well. Where playing a martial is generally fucking boring in games like DnD, in H+I two dudes fighting with swords has a lot of options and nuance to it even without fighting style abilities. Its not as bloated and stupid as DnD, but not as bland and limited as PBTA games. It exists in a nice sweet spot, where as long as you are okay with the mandated tone and powerlevel (don't expect to play a superhero wizard, everyone has to be some variety of cool fighting guy) its just a solid choice of system worth recommending. Also it does swords + guns well, so if you want to do a gunpowder era game its the big fish in the small pond.
>>96924687GURPS has one of the more realistic treatments, meaning that you'll be bayonet fighting every combat since you will never be able to reload during combat
>>96954097Main beef I have with it is a lack of scenarios (vs. BoL) and the bestiary BASHMAN has been doing is taken forever. Oh, and you wanna do the 2d10 "optional" resolution if you expect the game to go on for a long time. But it's a solid system with enough meat on the bone to engage you but not so much as to get in its own way.
>>96954707You shouldn't get time to reload in most combats involving early (as opposed to late) black powder firearms. You bring extra guns or a little scrappy nigga to reload guns for you between shots for that, like real life.
>>96946688Yeah but aesthetically older. I assume that's pretty contemporary, though I know nothing about it.
>>96961204It's ok newfags never get it
>>96948469Newfag didn't get it.
