AdMech had like a crazy 62% winrate at the world championship and won the tournament as well beating the best Eldar player in the world. Was adding Oath of Moment to Cawl really all it took to catapult then from one of the worst armies in the game to one of the best?

How many worlds do Orks own in the Galaxy that they can support that kind of population density? Because the Imperium has a million worlds and still has insanely packed and crowded cities.

Well I've been thinking about potential battle cries for my personal chapter and I think I'll have it be something that reflects their nature and emphasis on the dominance of humanity. I've had ideas like "Mankind eternally!" Or stuff like that. Maybe put it in Lati-*cough* high gothic
>>
>>96951127
It's difficult to parse exactly how 'dense' ork world populations are, I don't think the lore really says
>>
>>96951127
Orks can sort of produce everything they need passively. They eat stuff produced by their own spores such as mushrooms and squigs. They can have infinite dudes and it would be fine because they don't work on logic. And I don't mean in a"lmao I believe my cardboard box is a tank so it's a tank" way but that the writers don't give a shit about their logistics unfortunately.
>>
>>96951132
Oh hey BLanon, good timing.
I wanted to ask your opinion on my black armor highlights. I feel like they're too bright and come off a little tron-like. Would blending their outsides more towards black improve that? Or should I just hit the whole thing with a black contrast wash?

Yeah, the issue is that they are too uniform. Save the brightest highlight color just for the corners and any edges that are facing up and would receive more light. I do my highlights in reverse, that wip you got there is a great place to try and apply it. Tone down the highlights on the downward facing edges and it should look a lot more natural.

That's where I'm at as well. However, I don't want to take forever on these and in addition to that, I've realized if I do them all at the same time, I can start on the less important models and end on the more important ones and be warmed up on that particular technique, whereas if I go one at a time I'll get the same amount of total practice but split up

>>
>>96951247
>>96951279
Honestly I find it a lot easier than the traditional wisdom of chunky highlight into fine highlight. It's a lot easier to tone down and refine a messy highlight than trying to draw an impossibly thin and smooth line, especially if the edges are not particularly sharp and you can't trust the edge of the brush to do the work for you. Give it a try and see if you like it.

Ork spores grow the squigs and fungi they eat and orks are actually also more spread across the entire galaxy on every planet rather than concentrated on worlds they almost fully own like the imperium is. The honest answer is to just do it more. A more specific answer is to choose to focus on one particular thing at a time. I wanted to learn NMM, so I did it more. Is it perfect? No, but it looks like metal, which is better than when I tried it before, and it just looked like shit. Pick something simple and small. Thinning paint so you can't see brushstrokes, maybe layering or glazing a gradient better. It doesn't really matter what you choose as long as you pick something.

So the Imperium failing to destroy the Tau would be like if the combined forces of the Europe, China, the Middle East, and north Africa sent an invasion force to take the Falkland Islands in the middle of World War 3 with several other superpowers...and then the Falkland Islands drove them off. By itself.

Even accounting for the military force admittedly being a token one that's...impressive.

its such a meme when ppl using pro-imperium talking points try and cite the entire standing army as a force they can muster on a whim when realistically even with their massive numbers their total military is spread thin. if the Imperium ever did focus a majority of the totality of their military in one location (not even counting imperium nilus) it would be apocalyptic for all the worlds they arent present at. the tau exist bc the Imperium have a million other catastrophic things to contain (like chaos and traitors)

>>96952320
Here is the thing. As per the lore, (Deathwatch codex 7th, for example), the Imperium cannot focus its forces on a single target for a prolonged length of time.

So saying IF the Imperium does that or not is irrelevant. The Imperium can destroy any Xenos races if both existed in a vacuum, but that's not the circumstances of the galaxy, so I wish people would stop bringing up that moot point.

The fact that remains for all to see is that the T'au defeated an impressive number of the Imperial forces that the Imperium spared to throw at them.

>What kind of extra paints should I buy
Everyone should have a gold, a silver, a cool white, a bone, a black, a brown wash, and a black wash. Everything else is situational, and depends what you want to do. It's nice to have at least one highlight colour for every material on your model.
>Should I also get a red layer paint to do this >>96951221 # with?
So that tutorial you would need a red basecoat, and two highlight tones for your red.
>how worth it is it to buy new paints just for edge highlighting
So for the most part, the edge highlight paints will behave for you the same as the base paints will as a beginner. I do think it is good for beginners to have as few paints they are mixing as possible, because things being premixed means they are consistent and easier for you to notice the things you are doing if your paint is the same every time you use it. Also red doesn't respond well to whites being mixed in for highlights, it goes really pink and stops reading as red. Usually you highlight reds with brighter+more saturated reds than your basetone, and work in more orange
>Would it be worth it to buy any other metallic to highlight the leadbelcher parts?
stormhost silver is my fave for a super small highlight on gold, but beginners are better off going with a brighter gold so any small mistakes they make are less visible

That might be true from a narrative POV, but from a pure numbers game Israel is way bigger to rest of the middle east than the Tau is to the rest of the galaxy. The Falkland Islands was used because if we reduced the population of the galaxy to the current population of Earth but kept the proportions, the Tau would have a population of about 5,000 or so, which is (slightly more than) what the Falkland Islands has. This out of a global total population of about 8 billion.

In fact, if we just looked at the Imperium and the Tau alone for a comparison (not including the rest of the galaxy), the Tau would have the population and size of Albania (about 2 million)...and the Imperium would be the size and population of the rest of the world combined.
>>
>>96952309
The secret to highlighting metallics is using more metallics. If you want to brighten the highpoints of your leadbelcher, look to using something like Runefang Steel after applying the wash. Bonus points if you use something like Iron Warrior on the lower parts before the wash to make more of a gradient but that part's optional.

>So that tutorial you would need a red basecoat, and two highlight tones for your red.
Right, I'm gonna continue basing mephiston red... it's true that reds turn pink but I don't hate it too much so I might just do that again. Or get a third color

Yeah, it's the same thing with every other faction.

The Drukhari could conquer the galaxy if they cared to and if they weren't such backstabbing skavenous weasels...but they are and they're not going to change anytime soon. The Necrons could conquer the galaxy if they all woke up...but they won't. The Orks could conquer the galaxy if they united under one leader...but they won't. The Tyranids could conquer the galaxy if the rest of the hive fleets arrived...but they won't.

There are certain core functions of each faction that will continue to exist forever. The Imperium will always be unable to get its shit together and finish off its enemies. The Tau will always be small compared to the Imperium. The Eldar will always be slowly dying but not quite finished off yet.
>>
>>96952388
The population of the Middle East is only about 450 million depending on your definition of what the Middle East entails. This means that Israel has .4% of the population of the rest of the Middle East.

For contrast, the Tau have a population about .03% that of the Imperirum's. Israel is almost 14 times bigger than the Tau, relatively speaking.

If the Tau ever get to the point where they have about 5,000 planets, THEN they'll be the new Israel.

>Right, I'm gonna continue basing mephiston red... it's true that reds turn pink but I don't hate it too much so I might just do that again. Or get a third color
You can also look towards oranges as a highlight. Evil sun's scarlet>firedragon bright is my personal favorite for a bold, saturated red
>Leadbelcher is a silver/steel color, so could I use that color to highlight it?
It's a little dark for that. You probably want leadbelcher and a silver highlight so you can also highlight your metallics

Stormhost is a lot brighter, and runefang has a little blue to it, so it depends on what you're going for.

Nuln oil I find I use less and less over time vs. Agrax, but I think that's just because, as I've found the painting style I like, nuln oil has kind of been left behind. It looks good on synthetic parts, machine bitties and whatnot, but Agrax makes stuff look more worn and dirty, which I like. Nuln oil kind of looks "fake" imo

That's valid. I do think both the Eldar and the Tau need a massive numbers boost tho desu. The Tau should have tens of thousands of planets and the Eldar should have thousands of craftworlds. Enough that they're both still very tiny compared to the Imperium, but that it still makes sense why the Imperium would ally with them. Because as it stands right now, working with either faction even temporarily just feels like a complete waste of time with their sizes. Yes, there are trillions of Tau, possibly tens of trillions, and countless more auxillaries...

...but there's tens of quadrillions of Imperials. Neither Tau worlds nor Imperium worlds seem to particularly have an advantage over the other when it comes to population density, we've seen Tau ecumenopoli with trillions of people, but we've also seen hive worlds with those same numbers. So the simplest way to compare populations is just to go with the total number of planets.

Honestly that's probably the best part about the Tau

You can destroy the big fuckoff Necron World Engine with great effort, and they probably won't build another one. You can use up the one-of-a-kind archaeotech weapon, and it's lost forever. You can even destroy some ancient psi-Titan that Chaos scrounged up, and you probably won't have to face it again.

Nah I run lamenters. But I'm building out agents rn as a sideproject
>What kind of burgundy/purple paints might work with mephiston red?
Nta but I like reikland fleshshade for reds that you want done fast. The red on the pilot in pic related is wazdakka, washed with reikland, layer wazdakka, highlight wazdakka:wild rider red, extreme highlight wild rider on the face and sharpest corners
>>
>>96952524
As a shade for your reds. Reikland is too translucent to get any use out of highlighting with it. By removing saturation in your shadows, it makes your flat areas and highlights appear bolder and brighter, which is a stylistic choice, but I think looks pretty good

his gun now kills everything, chickens get good movement and can adv fall back and shoot, so they can find angles and reroll everything, and rust stalkers are now infantry blenders. They also have the boon of almost everything having invlns and being hoardy, so alot of mid/high ap/dmg attacks fall through. Kind of sucks that the win rate is so high, probably means were getting nerfed for the rest of the edition and most of the unplayable data sheets wont be touched.

I only played 8ed very casually several years ago and I had fun despite some fucked up balance stuff. How bad is 10ed?
>>
>>96953014
The problem with 10e is that it's counterintuitive and boring
>>
>>96953014
GW reduced the core rules to so little, that there is little design space for the special rules of units.
so it boils down to rerolls and lethal/sustained hits for everything. some other rules straight up make no sense, like an enemy unit, that is out in the open, can see your unit, that is inside a ruin, but not the other way around.
>>
>>96953057
Sounds like they made it too casual/streamlined
I still think the simplification of the rules they made from 7 to 8 was one of the best things to have ever happened to the game honestly, but I guess there's such a thing as going too far.
Heard that the balance is not bad tho, even if I guess it is because everyone is equally boring
>>
>>96953001
The Serpent Beneath is their best
>>
>>96953067
8th was the best the game had been in a while but it was by no means excellent, it was just a lot better than the bloat of 7th

>>96953080
if you want to attract more casual players and new people to the hobby without sacrificing complexity of the lore you gotta do it in another way

many people don't want to get into warhammer because the lore is complicated and its grimdark, but they learnt not to fuck up with that after the disaster of AoS. Many people didn't want to get into warhammer because the game was too complicated, and tweaking the rules to make it more casual and >>96953081 shrimple seems like a good plan
In all honesty it IS a good plan, as the jump from 7 to 8 showed, but again, there's such a thing as going too far

>>
>>96953014
The big problem with 10th is its still just another iteration on a 40 year old game that was never very good. It takes way too long to play a game and is full of needlessly complex, clumsy systems that no one starting fresh would ever consider. Whenever they try to make it simpler they half-ass it and no one is happy.

Every special rule is rerolling.
>>
>>96953100
Nobody gives a fuck about the lore, the biggest barrier of entry for warhammer as a hobby is and always has been painting because it requires actual effort and time investment. They remedied that somewhat with contrasts, youtube being flooded with hobby videos and tutorials probably helped too.

The cancee part of painting + assembly combo, is that they work AGAINST eachother.
By assembling stuff before painting you risk getting things to obscured to detail it with a brush.
By painting before assembling things are unintuituve, not uniform and the glue might ruin it.

I mean, if they "got their shit together" sure they could. They have the best logistics of any faction in the setting, resurrection tech, flash clones, weapons that turn suns off, bioengineered apocalyptic plagues, teleporting soul stealing shadow assassins, and the cunning and expertise of ten thousand year old warlords and duelists.
They're incredibly hampered by their fractitious nature and always trying to cut each other down so that now one raiding group has access to all of these things at once or only in extremely limited quantities because another group hoards them and roles them out for favors and influence in their political vipers nest.
The point is that they never will stop being antagonistic assholes towards each other though because that's what they are, definitionally.

Blue is the one shooting, therefore, bottom left, red would have no cover.
Bottom right, the left-most model of red would get cover, should the player choose to allocate the wounds there. But you would have to roll saves one at a time and when that one fails its save and dies, then the rest of the unit would not get cover.

>>
>>96953535
with the dust now settled, I find it very interesting that, contrary to what was at first though, the whole fiasco was not a "corpo wants to push more inclusivity shit against artist integrity", but the opposite of writers being allowed to insert that shit against the recommendations of the company.
I rather not give it much though anyway because I know that there are neet discord trannies trolling 4chan 24/7 with the topic "warhammer is woke now!" that is just fucking exhausting
>>
>>96953527
No.
It was most definetly ADB who did that.
There's like a reddit post from ADB from like 2016 or something where he says that the studio has contemplated on adding female custodes, but they then didn't because the models were done already.
And since ADB is the Head of Narrative at GW currently, so it's like 99% chance that ADB was the one that did it.
And he just did it because he has a femdom fetish and likes big strong women.
Like there's a tweet by him where he wants to go to heaven where there is his own personal harem made of Serena Williams (the tennis athlete) waiting for him.

ADB is about as bizarre and weird as this place is sometimes. I wonder if he comes here occasionally.
>>
>>96953548
>but the opposite of writers being allowed to insert that shit against the recommendations of the company.
Or more like GW just looked at it, "Eeh, sure. Go ahead, lets see what happens."
Since remember, GW is controlled by basically boomers, most of them do not even have the concept or understanding about the autistic argument that is female custodes or even female space marines.
They only think "well does it make more profit?"

The whole argument is basically about those in particular
But ya I think Chaos Xenos are awkward in a sense because they're meant to be daemon worshippers... And daemons are just kinda too humanized in current 40k, both aesthetically and fluff-wise. So laer? Those freaky snake-things? Yeah they're beholden to uh, human androgynes with crab claws
Its a bit like making Genestealer Cult of a non-humanoid xenos, say, the Galg. So you take that weird, lumpy thing of tentacles with no discernable face and... It hybridizes into something arguably MORE humanoid until it goes purestrain which is space xenomorph-with-eyes, which - while sufficiently alien for me - admittedly is more human-like than the original, parasitized alien host species

>chaos is that it corrupts everything
Actually Abbaddon the Despoiler has plans for the Chaos Gods as he refuses to bow down to them and still isn't corrupted in spite of leading forces of Chaos in 40k
>"But they reserve their fiercest hatred for Abaddon. Oh, how they despise him. They hunger for him, fighting each other for the honour of attracting his ironclad soul into their clutches. The Pantheon hates him the way parasites or addicts resent that which sustains them. Without Abaddon, they have no hope of victory. If he would only choose one of them, if he would only commit his destiny to one of the Gods, it would bring the Great Game of Chaos to its final moves. But then Abaddon would lose. He fights not for the Pantheon, those creatures that hate how they need him, nor does he care about their Great Game. He fights for himself, for his own ambitions, and for the brothers at his side. He fights for the Legions cast aside by the Emperor. He cares about the Imperium we built with our blood, sweat, bolters and blades – and he wants it back. He cares about returning to the godling that gave us life and seeing the Emperor bleed for all His failures. He cares about brotherhood, the unity of the damned, the wrongs that were done to all of us. And therein lies the root of the Gods’ spite. They beseech him. They beg him. They betray him in spite and then crawl back in the hope that he will bow to them. But the power is ultimately Abaddon’s, and that is what the Gods can never forgive."

Chaos corrupts and possesses inanimate objects all the time. Don't see why Necrons should be excluded. If anything, a living metal body should make an ideal body for a daemon to possess and wreak havoc in real space, as it's self-repairing and more resilient than a feeble flesh body. There have also been corrupt Tyranids in the setting. In Storm of Iron the IW used a corrupted hive ship as a titan lander. In Daemon World there were some intergalactic aliens with the intelligence of animals and large scything talons being used as beasts of burden on a Daemon World.
