Played a 1.5k ZM today. I played my traitor ravenguard as black shields, reaper of lives and legacy of nikae. Gonna post a few pictures. The game was pretty much lost in the list building stage. My friend playing EC put two tac squads on his home objectives and there was no real way to catch up on kill points. I further fucked myself during deployment. Terminators in hall ways, not a great time.Still having a hard time enjoying 3.0. Black shields may have flavor, but the game is starting to feel one note
>>96952222We played the first mission in the ZM rules, confined spaces kept my leviathan in my deployment zone. Spitting phosphex did not do much, opponent rolled well on his panic checks.Nullificators repurposed into combi-disintegrator termies. I weep for how absurdly shit disintegrators have become this edition.
>>96952185Hosted a doubles event for LI today, had 8 people, so 2 games of 2 v 2. 1500 points a player so 3k points a side.

>>96952256Is that multimelta a 3d print or conversion?
>>96952256A good overview image of my opponents deployment, and mine. I’m definitely going to try to run reaper of lives again or some other alternate scoring stuff. I find the need to put two mandatory line units on your home objectives far too gamey.
>>96952235>Nullificators repurposed into combi-disintegrator termiesF
>>96952235I liked the rarity of disintegrators last edition and how powerful and risky they were.
>>96952276This picture is for you >>96952270 anonI know I fucked up. I love terminators. I built this board before my opponent showed up. I never considered I’d end up deployed on the side made of tiny hallways. My fault.
>>96952288That's what they should always be. This stupid fad for a new edition is so...artificial.
>>96952301Indeed, I for one will prefer 2.0 because 3.0 is so much worse.
>>96952297Now, the two challenges of the game. My centurion, who was imbedded with his retinue, versus the champion/sergeant of my opponents palatine blade squad. I had the paragon of battle prime advantage. He struck first, taking him down to 1 wound. The finishing blow thunderhammer then killed him at i1
>>96952185I see them you bastard
>>96952310The second challenge, saturnine command squad champion with master sergeant versus tartaros command squad champion or whatever the fuck he is. This fucking asshole can-openered me like I was a five dollar whore. Goddamn auto wounding rending hits and flurry of blows. I did no damage with my axe, and got absolutely ass fucked. Although that’s what I get for bringing unpainted models. All in all, I lost before the game started, and it was really disheartening. I’ve missed playing, and this wasn’t a great way back in. >>96952857The ONLY thing wrong with the old Cataphractii kit was the loincloth. For some reason they are completely static & flat and make the whole model look ass. If you replace them they look great.New Cataphractii don't have any of the bulkiness of the old ones & will look shit alongside any Cataphractii character sculpts, which are amazing. It kind of baffles me to have such a big departure from the current Cataphractii design when so many legion specific units still use it.
>>96952956swap the heads too imo, lovely otherwise
>>96952857I like them. Shame that the kit itself is gonna be complete dogshit and only come in boxes of six though.
>>96952857If you want "honest" opinions ask in a month or two. The real shame of it is that people will shovel this shit down their throat and say it's great. Terminators and Dreadnoughts are my favourite minis so GW fucking them is not filling me with hope

>>96952857Genuine honest thoughts and options? On /TG/? Are you High?
>>96952857I think they might be slowly growing on me, but I'd need one on hand to compare with my MkIIs

What are the loadout options for a loyalist Champion? I want to give mine an extra melee weapon and a jump pack.
>>96952211>TQthe Araknae-Punisher would require a special moulding unless there's a Sicaran refresh coming with dual Punisher cannon, but the Araknae-Orias I think is doable without any great difficulty now, it's just a matter of mounting two sets of Orias launch arms where the autocannon mounts are, and of course if you've made a couple of Whirlwhints you've got those launch arms and missiles to spare, because you don't need the central mountbut even with the pavise and a points reduction over the Araknae-accelerator I don't think it's particularly worth it, you'd need a special army list entry with Firing Protocols (2) or better as the Orias is a pretty terrible missile in isolation, pretty much the only use case for the Araknae-Orias in HH3 would be anti-Militia since you can already get 4x Orias for cheaper than the base Araknaeit makes sense for LI where you can afford to have lots of cheap, ineffective units because everything still runs on the D6 but is nowhere near as durable as full size and you can easily build big batteries of artillerythe flamestorm tank is probably never going to be worth it full size either, 10" move and no old-style Torrent (X) for a weapon that you have to at least pivot to fire effectively, it'd get swamped and torn apart long before it hit anything useful, Warhounds can take the downgrade between editions because Titans are a lot scarier and harder to kill and buy BS as an upgrade now but that tank would be a mobile cover brick and not much else
>>96953286paragon blade + volkite serpenta or combi-meltathere's a jump pack version in Legaciesthere's no point to a second ccw this edition so there's no option, since the paragon blade is 1/6 to auto-wound AP2 vs any target anyway there wouldn't be much point even if you could
>>96953302But I think it looks cool.
>>96953351model a paragon blade how you want, just don't expect to use power fist rules for it
if you assemble cataphractii with the shoulderpads lower than the torso, or without the inner shoulderpads, or the shoulderpads not flush with the torso, or any combination of those three, you should be shot
For some time now I wanted to buy a leviathan, but the kit is super expensive , on top of not being that good in game. I still like the esthehic though. Two weeks ago My sister has been buying stuff on TEMU and needed 5$ to get some sort of a bonus for her order, and bought one for me. I was expecting to get trash. It arrived this weekend. I expected at best some training to paint dreadnoughts material and worse basing material. First thing my dumb ass did was, of course, to drop the left arm and broke off both barrels. I glued it up, "painted" it and now I wonder why does it cost 5$ and GW one costs 68$. Is it the plastic being so much more expensive, because it is more resilient? Worse part is that now I am thinking how much money I would have saved, if I bought few or even no GW models, but just stuff from TEMU.
>>96953437because you bought a recastand the box the model comes in costs more to GW than the plastic inside
>>96952247This game needs something to avoid parking lots
>>96953512that is crazy. The box costs more. I mind blown. I worry that if the plastic printers ever get popular for home use, a lot of people will just stop buying GW stuff.
>>96953529All I want from GW in 3.0 is to make an army constiting of 6 predators 2-4 vindicators and 1-3 kratos/siccarians and 0-1 super heavy to be legal and fun to play. With only infantry being techmarines and forge masters running between vehicles in a command rhino.
>>96953512I know that this is local meta specific, but online is the community in favour of people getting resin parts from other producers then GW, or is it more like the how some anons here responded to the tortuge minis? Or maybe it is more crazy like anon from China only accept China made stuff, while not accepting Russian or Ukrainian ones etc.
>>96953561>legal That is currently legal >fun to play Literally impossible unless you make vehicles 10th edition big infantry that can shoot out their ass and everything can wound everything, it's not possible for vehicles skew lists to be viable without it just becoming a coin flip "everyone brings ass loads of anti tank and blows you up turn one or loses in list building"
>>96952956tortuga sells arms and pads too, I got loads of them
>>96952610They're fine, they perform like cataphractii but slightly worse because of the 5+ invulnerable. But cheaper point cost, so still worth.
>>96953561Go play ligma if you wanna be a dirty tank spammer you sub-human filth. All it takes for that list to be viable is some mechanised infantry (tactical squads in rhinos) like a proper army would have, but if that's too much for you then you honestly deserve to get hit by a bus.
>>96952857A bit thin, with small waists and heads... terrible combat fists. I've never liked cataphractii. Now they don't look as imposing as terminators, just another basic power armour.
>>96953654Well I don't play that much, played 7 game for 3 years of 2ed. But you are right I do love my tanks. There is just something about tank companies (not mechanized infantry) that I love. I blame my grandfather. He has been in the army from 1943 till 1979, and when I was kid he would take me to his company, when he had lecturs and later when he was mobilised 81-85, he would take me in to tanks and APC, we would drive in them. I miss my grandpa. He was such a chad. diabetes? yes, still would down a bottle of vodka at 3 in the morning watching movies on VCR (owning a VCR was illegal here in the 80s), and we would watch everything Barbarella , old westerns, SciFi movies and war movies. So many war movies. And strong like a bull till the last year of his life. You made me think about life. I think I will buy a Kratos and build one. And name him "Red Head 102".
>>96953694Maybe we could put the old cataphract fists/claws/chainfists on the models? but you are right they are not just small, they like ugly. and not cool ugly , like SOME nurgle stuff, just plain pumba gore ugly ugly.
Is a Boarding shield too heavy to be lugged around by a jump pack-equipped Assault squad?
>>96953840I think that unless you have a golden age era grav pack, a large shield messes too much with the jump paterns , especialy the landings.
>>969528572 kits with different weapons seems deranged and wasteful. It should be an upgrade kit arrangement.
>>96952331are lightning claws in a challenge really that good?I would've thought finishing blow would've been better as he's getting 5 attacks already
Are these small rectangular cases next to the holstered pistol supposed to be anything in particular?
>>96953547>>96953512It unironically sounds like you're an alien who has just discovered the existence of commerce. And the answer is no, counterfeiting causes margin erosion, but it doesn't replace the authentic article.
I own this guyI'm gonna customize him, take off his cape, swap his sword out for a hammer, swap his volkite charger for a combi-bolter, cut the magazines out and then add belt feeds into it from an ammo pack on the back (bought an illastus assault cannon kit to do this as it has the ammo pack and belt feedsI think its gonna be AWESOMEmight give him just the one belt feed and a combi-melta or something so I dont have to model 2 seperate beltfeeds though

>>96953423One hundred percent true, on all accounts. People who leave off the pads are impatient children, then there are those who fail to stack the top pad on correctly.
>>96953886Weight of dice and rending are a powerful combination.
>>96952331>max size full troop slotsThat isn't a great army either. Tacticals die to literally everything and will start running regardless of how large the unit is. You need a good mix of units this edition, only need one or two small elite squads to deal with troops as those can do nothing back. There's also plenty of ranged units that barely cost more than a barebones tactical squad that will kill MEQ units effortlessly.
>>96954323I'm pretty sure you can just cut the pads down to size. Maybe figure a jig to keep it consistent.
>>96954463He could go massed Boarders instead. 5++ with either Grav or Lascutters is pretty good.
>>96954500Can attest that Blackshield breachers are goddamn mean. The ones I saw were Clones + Weapons of Desperation, so they had 5++ 5+++ plus a lot of dakka because breachers have both a bolter and a bolt pistol to replace, so they were stubbers or dual autoguns. They can't react off objectives to deny Vanguard, but they are sufficiently tanky that the enemy Dark Angels didn't manage to take advantage of that.

>>96954173Thanks. Do you guys think that adding the cost of a centurion/pretor to a Tank to make him your Warlord/HQ would be okey. >>96954953You picked the worst time to start browsing /osrg/ as it's a 99% a meta-shitposting singularity. That also doesn't make sense at all, considering one's a wargame and the other is a fantastic medieval adventure game.

Who knows maybe one day he will come back, or maybe you or I will leave too. Anyway I am off to painting my White Paladins inspired Death Guard shattered legion. May you too find happiness in the hobby today.
So based on observations Custodian Guards will no longer be in squads of 5 but will unfortunately be in squads of 3, sold in boxes of six most likely with two of the six being "female" . They will be monopose with only the guardian spear. Other weapons like the sword and shield and melta spear will most likely be an upgrade sprue like marine weapons. Tanks, dreadnought, and flying bois will be in plastic.SoS probably got forgotten and no new stuff or will also get the monopose treatment with only swords in the box with bolters, flamers, and pistols being an upgrade sprue because GW wants more money for their cheap plastic.
>>969552293-6. and every 3ed model, and 66% of all oficers are going to be female. Now I know how alergic people around here react to Valrak, but he is accurate more often then not. And when he is accurate he is REALLY accurate.
>>96955219Kill yourself.
>>96955229the melta spears are already upgrades you buy seperately.
>>96955229Squads of 3 seems eminently sensible, since that gives them a Troops choice that's around 150pts rather than 250. They're still low on model count, but at least they can be in a reasonable number of places on the board at once.
>>96952857I think they look alright, but I will need to have them in my hand to be sure. Also the volkite guns might work on breachers
>>96953889all i've gleaned on them is that they're rigid hard cases as opposed to explicit pouches
Line 1 > Vanguard 4, yeah?
>>96955744Dunno, depends on the armies, the mission, the terrain, objective placement, and the generalship of both players.
Are there any 3000+ black shields armies out there with picture evidence of them existing?

>>96955744No, because the odds of a unit sitting on an objective for four turns are lower than the odds of you managing to score vanguard once. Also no because your line(2) units exist and are going to do better anyways.

>>96952699Well, I'm quite happy with it. I have most of the models in resin, except Domitars (don't like the design) and a new list to ally with is fine for me. The Skitarii Pilgryms are okay, I may cut their legs a bit but I'll see.Curious to see what's in the Skitarii list. We have enough difficulty wrestling with incompatible faction traits as is, these would have been perfect as [Mechanicum] infantry that go in the normal list and allow Macrotek, Malagra and Myrmidax magi to actually do something with Comptroller rather than being screwed out of scoring for no apparent reason.
>>96955866GUYS LOOK HE POSTED IT AGAIN
>>96955875I think the faction specialization is the point. Its what balances out the bullshit some of them can do.
>want to make ZM board>look into GW options since I got gifted some necromunda stuff a while back>the floor tiles alone cost $300 >the wall packs are $100 for 5 god damn walls>it'll cost more than an entire army just for terrain
>>96952213I do hope that HH doesn't fall into a 3 year cycle like 40k
>>96955893"Fuck you, you're not allowed to have scoring" is just an incredibly obnoxious way to do that, though, and Malagra/Myrmidax are some of the weaker ways to go right now, so that part isn't balancing shit compared to the much more sensible segregation of what gets what buffs and goes in what apex detachments. There should absolutely be at least one unit those three can score with, and cheap, squishy infantry choices are probably the best candidate for it.If those three had a scoring option, Magi could have 10" jump packs so Reductor didn't have to gimp their units to score and the Macrocarid could actually carry non-Macrotek units I'd be very happy with the Mech faction split, but it's a bit restrictive right now.
>>96955800>the odds of a unit sitting on an objective for four turns...doesn't Line 1 grant +1VP on the vaule of an objective, instead of setting the VP gain to 1 as you say? That is, a Line 1 would gain 1+1 VP from an objective worth 1 VP, and 2+1 from an objective worth 2 VP.That way, a Line 1 would need 2 turns on an objective worth 1 vp, not 4 turns. And on an objective worth 2 vp, by the second turn it would have generated 6 vp.Meanwhile, Vanguard is required to make the scoring unit fall back or die on the point, right?
>>96955871I like that better
>>969559023d print is the answer
>>96955948On an objective worth 1VP a line 1 unit scores 2VP per turn. To get 4 VP worth of value out of its line(1) it would need to sit there for four turns. On an objective worth 1VP a vanguard(4) unit scores 1VP (the max you can with vanguard), and would need to trigger its vanguard once to get +4VP out of its special rule.
>>96955902Fortunately I made decisions in 1.0 and bought a lot of dungeons & lasers tiles, which were not enough to make a ZM board, but are enough to make walls with the approximate shapes and layouts of FW ZMs

Any legion unique units with a champion sergeant? Besides Templars.I'm debating between Lerneans or Justaerin, and it's ike picking between apples and oranges: they are for different things...but one is clearly superior, and that's oranges.
>>96957590Phraetus, and he's a pretty good champion at that. He'll take most Centurions.
>>96957590>one is clearly superior16 Lernean hammers strike a contemptor harder than 20 Justaerin hammer attacks, so don't be so sure
>>96957613Speaking of the Phraetus Anointed, is there much of a point of giving him a fist + axe, now that there isn't a benefit to running multiple different melee weapons? I modeled mine with both purely for the aesthetic, but it doesn't seem optimal when I'm leaving shooting on the table.
>>96952185>>96952185How do I houserule Vulkan? He kinda ruined my Dropsite Massacre event after killing pretty much every Traitor Primarch (including Horus) without taking a scratch.
>>96957923Dual fists more or less dominates the available melee options, since you're not getting Reaping Blow on 3+ model bulky 4 units that often.I like axe on a 2-model sat command squad, where attaching a power armour guy gets you to total size 9 and two huge dudes with axes flanking your commander looks sweet, but the Phraetus don't really care for it statwise.

>NOOOOOO PERTURABO-SAMA THAT WAS TOO MUCH FIRE I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'VE DONE THIS!!!!
>>96958067My bad... got the impression Pert had just dont that for style points when every other fight between Vulkan and another primarch played out as 'Vulkan gets killed a dozen times until an X machina intervenes on his behalf.'
The more I think about it the more I'm confused as to why perturabo is the one who ended up with forgebreaker. Like it's been that way since before the black books, but perturabo didn't even do anything to kill ferrus or even focus other the iron hands, his thing was taking out the salamanders. If you need to give someone a hammer to ruin and don't want to give Fulgrim his rightly earned trophy out of contradicting his swift combat style or something, Eidolon is right there, or you could even have Vulkan be the one to retrieve it and swear vengeance against the traitors in Ferrus's name. It just seems silly to end up with perturabo who didn't earn it and proceeded to make it worse for autistic reasons.
>>96958142That was after the nuking on Isstvan, being stripped of his armour and hammer, the endless torture and mindbreak at the hands of Curze, doing an orbital re-entry whilst in the nude, getting abused by Curze some more, getting killed for real by a magical McGuffin, getting resurrected on Nocture, traitor primarchs levelling up to daemon primarchs...
>>96958318Astartes don't deserve to wield primarch weapons. Perturabo was the only traitor primarch who appreciates a hammer for a weapon.Khârn is the exception, because he recovered a weapon his primarch had discarded looting weapons was something the WE didn't like and stole shit from a museum to get it repaired.

>>96952185Wtf is the guy in the missile turret gonna do? Shoot down a plane or two and just sit there after? Hotbox the ball and play some pokemon?
>>96958318That's a rather stupid question on so many levels.- Perturabo joining Horus brings him 50,000+ supersoldiers, 1,000+ tanks, all his allies such as forgeworlds/titans and a full legion spacefleet and himself, the best logistician in the entire imperium and a top 3 best war-commander which carries the whole war. You want to give EIDOLON the priceless hammer of a primarch for... literally giving Horus nothing. Not even 1 basic space marine , as Eidolon is already Horus servant because Fulgrim is his owner.- Forgebreaker is a primarch-sized two-handed hammer. Only a primarch would even be able to swing it fast enough for it to do anything as a weapon. Eidolon would barely be able to lift a 2h primarch hammer (Forgebreaker, Worldbreaker or Vulkan's hammer) and certainly not use it as a weapon.Kharn only wields a primarch's one-handed small side axe (Gorefather is twice as big and heavy as Gorechild) - so it's like taking a samurai's tanto dagger, for Angron it was a small trifle for Kharn it's a large weapon. And Kharn has super-khorne-champion strength to punch over battletanks. The traitors aren't going to "lose" Ferrus giant hammer after beheading him. Vulkan (who was nuked out of existence) couldn't sneak up and take it from Fulgrim/Horus even if he'd lived. There were hundreds of eyes on it every second.
>>96956626is he still on his n******* email address?
>>96959152>the primarchs were 11 billion feet tall and regular guys couldn't even use their weapons despite them having le boltguns in canon and other stupid shit just ignore that because this dood is a skyscraper zomggzgzgay
>>96959166Having Primarchs be ogryn sized and its consequences have been a disaster for the autistic communities.I like to think Primarchs were "taller than marines", but not twice as much. Like, Alexis Polux was above average and Guilliman noticed he was almost at his own eye level. Doesn't mean Polux was twice as big as a marine.Had it been Alpharius, Polux and him would've been the same size and be able to pass for one another...which is what he did with Pech, Ranko and many others.I much prefer that version as opposed to "ACTUALLY IT'S A PSYCHIC POWER".
>store acts surprised I have no interest in a dan abnett signing day

>>96957977The problem with Vulkan is the moron gave him 13/10 offense and 13/10 defense at the same time and 10/10 initiative and 100% perfect reliability impossible to outplay by smart gambit choices, all simultaneously for super low points cost.Literally all it takes to entirely fix Vulkan is the hammer nerfed to Dmg2 Crit6+ instead of Dmg3 Crit5+ (same stats like Mortarion's scythe). Both would then be 10/10 defensively (both EW3), with Vulkan having healing and Morty with resilience for crittable on 6+ only and not needing to use a gambit for his defenses (Morty can Finish/Seize instead.) Vulkan would be the slightly better dualist than Morty (since Morty's scythe isnt a dueling weapon and Vulkan's heal is superior) - but Morty gets Phosphex AOE shots to panic3 units, and Fear1 to make it more likely, and 9 attacks to shred units harder than vulkan outside a duel. (Vulkan's panic2 flamer is still good utility compared to say Rogal Dorn's gun)It'd fit the model better too. FW vulkan is just the teeny 1h hammer, not the huge 2h hammer from his book cover. If they wanted to make 2h hammer vulkan, they could give him the Dmg3 Crit5+, like +100 pts cost, drop him to EW2 and initiative 3 because he's swinging heavy hammer leaving openings.
>>96959401primarchs are literally daemon princes of chaos, they're all inherently made of magic instead of meat. >>96959922>falling for the lies and propagandaThere's literallly no such thing as "the energy of the uncorrupted warp" - the warp is literally liquid chaos - and every shaman casting spells is just using the power of chaos 100% of the time. The only difference is if they lightly sip with a very small spell, they might escape the notice of the large malign intelligences they are siphoning power from.Hence why space marine librarians of loyalist chapters still must roll a Perils of using Chaos Magic dice set every single time they cast any "holy" magic, even a daemon-banishing anathame emperor psychic power.

>>96959957>falling for Chaos lies and propagandaThe Dark "Gods" are just big daemons created by sentient life and pretending to be more than they are, mere emotional vampires. They're no more gods than the C'tan are and trusting them to do anything other than further their own interests is foolish. There's no truth in Chaos, only torment and despair.
>>96957590Lernaeans are better than Justaerin until vanguard rules get changed. Line > vanguard. Conversion beam cannon > worthless SoH guns. Alpha "fail your charges" passive wins more games than SoH "fail my charges because I volley fired" trait. Justaerin have no sarge, while Lernaean sarge can be primed to WS6 with 5 thunderhammer attacks with Hatred for smashing dreadnoughts or TEQs equally well. and Lernaean unit starts 25 points cheaper and 5 less per model.Any unit so strong that Lernaeans dont instantly beat it is so strong that Justaerin lose to it as well, it's just Lernaeans also have useful shooting and Line so they can score objectives without vanguard's penalty. And if it comes down to a 1000 point justaerin deathstar or a 1000 point lernaean deathstar, it's not a simple thing in justaerin favor. They have a hell of a time getting a charge against alpha legion with the slowest troops in game, so just bring Kratos and pop the justaerin transport and the Lerns can just snipe them with AP2 conversion blasts. If you must buy a +400 pt Spartan or +235 Kharibdyss to get use from the justaerin they'll probably take that one target down on turn 2 or turn 3, but have like 800+ points not accomplishing anything turn 1/3/4. Overall - Lernaean are more valuable I'd pick them on my team before I'd pick justaerin. Any mega-deathstar where justaerin shine is really just gonna be carried by the Primarch (so Ascended Horus or Vulkan) and it's not justaerin that matter.
>>96960033I thought Ctaan were merely "gaseous vertebrates" like Photino Birds, who would simply eat stellar energy and not interact with most matter in the galaxy......but then necrons killed one, and it altered reality in some way that can no longer be measured because the change is already done. I hope this is just propaganda, I like Photino Bird energy vampires better
>>96960033nothing I said is anything but 100% pure truth. The warp itself IS liquid chaos. That's why Necrons anti-chaos towers don't "clean the warp" (impossible) - they remove the warp entirely like nulls. That's because there's literally no such thing as "uncorrupted warp"
>>96952857They were certainly the highlight of the reveal. I like near everything about them better, with the notable exception being the power firsts. Hammers are way cooler anyways but its still to bad, they just look stubby. The plastic minis for betrayal of calth sucked ass compared to their resin originals (the mkIII were ok but still worse). Details were cut and simplified, and the poses were awful and stiff. The design language of these new ones lands perfectly with the new mkVI and mkIIs.

>>96960043>Conversion beam cannon > worthless SoH guns.Conversion beams are useless at short range, which is the range of 80% of the rest of the squad. >>96960092Unlike 40k you're allowed to shoot a unit 40" away off and charge a unit 5" on the same turn. Beamers automatically shit on SoH shooting at 30-45" (naturally, as banestrike cant even shoot beyond 18" which is where enemy will park Rapiers and vulnerable units) which is incredibly easy to find and they still shit over AP4 banestrikes with AP3 AOE on the 15-29" band.If 8/10 alphas dont shoot, the alphas still deal as much damage as the 40 banestrike shots if the templates hit a total of 7 termies (3 for one, 4 for other template) - except safely from 30-45" without a 400 point spartan needed. Then if you're shooting power armor, the beamer has no weakness for the entire 15-45" band (half the board)The problem with Justin shooting is you kill stuff at 12-15" (yay all our guns are short) then fail the charge as the enemy pulls casualties from the justin side of the unit. You're paying 500 points for the squad, it's not enough to kill 120 points of terminators and fail your charge and not score vanguard. For other q, Hatred helps with the Power Axes and Lightning Claws against basic marines or terminators. A Justaerin wounds other terminators on 4+ with power axes while the Lerns wound them on 3+. If claws, the justins extra attacks are lessened by needing 5s to wound.Ends up 7.2 wounds 10 claw justins put on Cats, while 10 claw Lerns would be 6.5 wounds thanks to hatred. Difference is 10 claw justin are 625 instead of 575, so you can afford a whole 11th lernaean which makes it 7.2 lernaean vs 7.2 justin. Prime champ TH sarge puts lern in lead.other downside justin has no sarge to block challenge. SoH character in Justin? Corswain type challenges them and SPLAT! Corswain challenges Dynat? He says "sarge handle this" and Dynat uses 5 TH attacks on squad instead. Corswain becomes a lot less scary when he's penalized for being last man standing and enemy can Grandstand for +2-3 TH atk, or +2-3 initiative to finish wounded man.
>>96960254it's even worse because not only did they ruin the Leviathan in 3 edition, the specifically ultra-useless one is the Melee Leviathan which is in the battleforce. The ranged one could at least bring two immobilizing grav pieplates to dump at 18" after walking. The melee one has no utility and just fails to charge anything ever.
>>96958318The reason is that Forgebreaker was originally Perty's signature possessed warcrime hammer and some retard in Nottingham decided it should be a prop in the homoerotic fratricide of Ferrus and Fulgrim. There is no sensible, well reasoned and fluffy explanation for it beyond needing Perturabo to have Forgebreaker during the Heresy so a dumb retcon looked less like a dumb retcon.
>>96960107Never skip leg day bros
>>96960403Do you really want Dynat in that unit anyway? He can't infiltrate them and he's not a particularly notable fighter, I'd say you want him with ten Suzerains hanging out in the midfield and spending all the land raider savings on booze. Becoming increasingly bullish on Suzerains in general, they're very points efficient melee.I'm still not sure whether I like my 5 man beamer/axe/TH sarge lern squad that just chills on the nearest objective firing beamers across the map all game. A Predator and a tac squad might get me more VPs for cost, but it's definitely fun and it's nice to have the axes there if someone tries to sneak the point.

>>96952213That cunt is right though, people are way too retarded and dependent on GW and specifically the GW finance department who obviously don't have the hobbyist interest in mind.If he makes an alternative ruleset that keeps making sense, combining the best of both worlds, great. If it is a kick-off points for an open source or player alternative rule-set/faction rules it is also a massive win.
What I don't get about the termie reveal is how their recent character designs have all been great, picrel is only 3 years old which is quite recent in the grand scheme of things. All they needed was to update the size and add a little flair.
>>96961542I am convinced that the same person behind the new MkIII is behind this, and most likely the new MkIV as well. This drive to leave your own "makers mark" on a design by tweaking it slightly, dismissing all preexisting artwork and miniatures in the process. It's frankly bizarre behaviour, and almost feels spiteful from GW.

>>96960403Conversion beam cannons are good and allow the unit to be relevant at range, which can't be said for every terminator squad. But at close range, 4 Conversion hits are equal to 3 banestrike combi-bolters shooting. And 4 hits is being generous, so try 2 banestrike combis.Shooting the conversion elsewhere means giving up 2/3 of the firepower against the Termie unit before you.>Hatred helps axes Meh. Their Breaching remains 5+, and that's the bit that matters.I guess the big learning here is...that banestrike combi-bolters are over costed, so they're a trap option? Since they make a unit of them cost more than Justaerin, giving up on their price advantage.Lerneans are good against big things, far away targets, and can be cheaper than justaerin. Their flexibility means they can do anything, but not *everything* at once.

>>96963885People definitely are more casual by the sounds of it (although the fist player had a pretty scary list from what I saw). I would like to consider myself not a particularly competetive player (not because theres something wrong with being one, but I just dont have the will to ruthlessly minmax - or at least thats my self assessment) but my experience with them has been pretty one-sided. I went 19-2 against a previously undefeated player, and im not very experienced (it was my first game after being an "armchair warlord"). Maybe I just got lucky, maybe the lists werent very compatible, maybe he played poorly or got unlucky. I dont know, but ultimately I think I should try and moderate in the interest of everyone having fun. Find a way to bring something interesting without being as strong and then I can always "tune it back up" if it turns out that actually they can handle it and were just being scaredy cats or whatever. What could also be the case (and might lean into the "caac" stuff) is that they self-select for a rather "deathstars in land raiders" style of play, and rapiers (and seekers) both kinda counter that sort of thing.

Completely incapable of even slightly adjusting their tactics or play style if a slightly different army shows up. Do not adjust your army to their demands and complaints. If you do, they'll never learn to use their brains and continue making more and more demands until your list is incapable of winning against theirs. And if they can't even learn how to deal with something as simple as rapiers, frankly they deserve to lose all their games.

prepping to go to a "narrative" event but I know absolutely nobody is going to build a list for theme or play any other way than they play their pickup games. (event is using core missions + I think some other events' missions but from what I've seen none of them are even themed towards the specific event they're all just generic "some forces meet up and have to stand on objectives" stuff)Do I bother going for a theme for myself or do I just take a list I would take for PUGs?
>>96964081Depending on which legion you play you can do both. Like bringing a wall of vindicators as IW or IF, both thematic and strong. But yeah generally bring your PUG list to HH narrative events, 9 out of 10 people just bring a strong list and don't care about being narrative.
>>96964041>Dumb idiots who only know how to move their spartan party bus up the fieldThats not fair. There was also a land raider party bus! This is also perhaps not fair of me to say because I have only played there once, and am basing my assessment of that/what I saw online from them. >Do not adjust your army to their demands and complaints. If you do, they'll never learn to use their brains and continue making more and more demands until your list is incapable of winning against theirs.I wont lie, a certain part of me does feel like this, "just take out your best anti-tank options and anti-2+ shooting" from someone with a bunch of land raiders and terminators has that vibe you know? But I dont think this is the case in reality, the guys there seem very friendly and chill. Just maybe a bit more casual than I am I guess. Or maybe just worse at listbuilding. >And if they can't even learn how to deal with something as simple as rapiers, frankly they deserve to lose all their games.Maybe, but I think theres both a moral and pragmatic counterargument:We didnt play competitively, god knows I dont want to, and in a casual environment "forcing the other guy to git gud" probably isnt an entirely appropriate mindset. >>96963633>>96963824You can't infiltrate Lerns since they're Bulky, but there are other good candidates. Suzerains are a big wall of reasonably priced melee deterrent, and you can always move up a shooty squad if you don't have a good melee unit for a conventional beatstick-only Praetor to go in. He's good for keeping your options open, although I think I'd rather have a big obvious melee threat lurking in better cover near the objective rather than spawning a Line squad of some kind on top of it and getting shot to bits most of the time. Maybe a decent use for Breachers.
>>96964237Veteran tacticals? at 2w each theyre decently beefy for a line unit (enough that small arms fire wont clear them off)
>>96964248Not a terrible candidate, especially since it's very possible that they spawn in range to do some mean combi-weapon or combi-banestrike Return Fire on whoever tries to clear them. The Ultras or Fists unique breacher squads are probably the most -points efficient bricks here, Suzerains are not bulky and they're W2 2+ 5++ for about 30ppm, Phalanx Warders are cheaper and come in large numbers, but neither has Line or Vanguard so it's easier to score the point out from under them.
>>96964129>Be the change you want to see.okay but what if my idea for a thematic list is stupendously bad (in the context of the mechanics of the edition). For example, I could run a force themed after Abaddon's failed Saturnine assault. But that would be AT MINIMUM Abaddon deep striking with Justaerin and then 2 drills with veteran marines or reavers and then the other 1000 points would be kind of against theme and there's a chance of a decent proportion of my army showing up late/never with 4 round games.Obviously the answer is "bring a more playable theme" but every theme for Siege of Terra I can think of (that I can play without buying a whole new army) is somewhat equally FUCKED by the mechanics. On the other hand I could just bring 2 rhinos, some rapiers, some seekers, tacticals, etc of any of my legions and do fine but that's not really embodying the SOVL>>96964107Heresy narrative events need to start billing themselves for what they are. >>96964056If you have to ask, just do IF
>>96964295Warders sucks, i wish at least they kept their bolters.
>>96964505Its not, the best way to utilize deepstrike are cheap glass canon units, or better yet, drills. like a lot of people sleep on drills. they are 85 points, can pop light armor pretty damn easy with thier melta guns, and you can dump out units like melta support squads to take out heavy vehicles, or dump out destroyers to deliver status effects. Another thing that i see a lot of people sleep on, are interdiction units. Having a blob of 20 despoilers pop outta no where, not able to be intercepted, and then get a disordered charge is pretty fucking great.
>>96964538Eh, add a MoS for guaranteed turn 2/3/4 drops and I think theres a game there (potentially).Drop abadabadoo onto the central objective, light up everyone with banestrikes. Turns 2/3 drop drills with banestrike vets (or whatever) onto the other objectives.
>>96964248I feel veteran tacticals are a pro unit that a noob like me won't get until I learn the value of victory points, including Counter Offensive. They look like 2W marines who can (should?) all take combis, plus a couple heavy weapons.Bare handed melee, but they can probably defeat up to an Assault squad due to the changes in Combat Res.I'm still in a "Who kills what" in a void setting, instead of "Who *does* what"
>>96964558Idk, I think theyre actually pretty easy to use. Theyre "tacticals+" in a sense, theyre worse at scoring but theyre tankier and can pack more punch for the model count. Stick them on a rhino and theyll 1:1 any other line unit off whatever objective you go for. Id say go with volkites and then whatever special weapons you want.
>>96964538>get a disordered chargeDon't they need like a full 6 on 1d6r to get there? Idk maybe a tactical mass would do it...

>>96952185Has anyone had any luck with armistos. Looking at their stats, for 70 points they seem very lackluster
>>96964711If I had to guess, it's because it won't sell very well standalone so GW puts it in the box to bake it into the final price. For comparison's sake the Rhino is one of the bestest selling GW kits ever and putting it into a box set that sells for less than its constituent sets combined not only means they are basically selling the Rhino for less, they also see lines go down on Rhino kit both directly to consumer and associated FLGS selling their stuff.
>>96955926It’s ok to be scared of it, but atp I believe gw sees it as the mistake it is and are seemingly backing away from it in other games. It was just necessary for heresy due to how much of a mess 2.0 was internally
>>96964911Its such a notoriously unpopular model type you have to wonder if theres some kind of story behind it.
>>96964711"We need to get in on the firestrike turret and hammerfall bunker market!"
>>96965012>40k marines have (had) tarentulas>So 30k marines need to have BIG tarentulasI think that's just it. Big tarentulas.I'd be curious to hear what really went on at GW's
>>96964904I meant GW not you sorry
>>96957977Remove crits from his hammer6 woundsGambit now only works if and when Vulkan looses his last wound.Even then he'll probably still be top dog with his top tier sire rule and EW3.If you don't want to touch his profile, then make him cost as much as a daemon primarch. He's better than them anyway.
>>96964577>Id say go with volkites...how about combi-banestrikes?
>>96965178veterans can't take combi-banestrikes, only Justaerin and command/champions.Which means New Recruit is wrong! I can add banestrike bolters to my dang sergeants. Gotta remember that one.
>>96965409Anon any alpha legion model that can take from combi weapon list can take banestrike bolters or combi bolters, check legacies
>>96965409Veterans can take combi-weapons, which is the only requirement needed to be allowed combi-banestrike.
>>96964509Because the IF are better than IH or some other reason?
>>96963471fkn love your sallies anon
>>96963328Ohmu bug transport for my new dark mech army are getting colours. The bright orange will be contrasted against dark metals and blacks + a savage dirty oil wash and heretic transfers.
>>96965545fuck yeah, i wish this pic was the last thing i'd saw
>>96965502>>96965511somehow I missed that this was in the line of discussion about a unit for Dynat to join. Sorry anons, I'm going to go walk into the "i can't read" sea now
>>96964982I'm gonna try one out tomorrow I'll get back to you
>>96964711It's fucking gigantic too, even the design is bizarre, the thing has a footprint as big as a land raider
>>96965581That's awesome
>>96965581Nice pokemon
>>96960107aren't tortuga terminators actually bigger than leviathan? maybe not that much taller but in terms of girth, i was interested by their own indomitus since they have that FW look but they seem to fat.
>>96965829Probably not sure though, never liked Tortugas stuff they looked way to goofy.
>>96965734Thanks anon
>>96965871I don't like tortuga, and I think it's fucking bizarre how many people in this thread go apeshit about troonscale conversions, but then slobber over Tortuga and their offbrand michelin man sculpts.
>>96965959Imma be real i was being kind, but truth is, i feel the same way, i think Tortuga looks like dog shit, their torsos are way to fucking long, and their arms and lengthy. They just dont look good. I feel like the jerk of people give them is just because they are not GW and muh 3d printing DESU I call Tortuga reddit marines.
>>96965876Just remind me next thread
>>96966010Tortuga keeps the design and improves the scale while fucking up the minutae.James fucks up the design ehile improving the scale and minutae
>>96965829tugas aren't larger than a leviathan what are you smoking dawg like pass that shit over here bro
>>96966106dude i dont even think tortuga improves the scale. They look fucking retarded on the table because they are comedically big. They look like shit.
why does no one show off their muscles
>>96965178Those are higher damage, but theyre also like 10ppm or something ludicrous. Volkites are cheap, and for SoH have the advantage of being assault weapons so you can Death Dealers with them.
>>96964711>>96964804The people pulling the strings are insane. I love fortifications and still this is such a pile of shit let down of a thing. Plus, if they were really gonna force that this model be manned then they should have put an indentured legion serf with enhancements as the occupant. Asleep at the wheel all the time is GW's MO.
The resin Sicaran and the new plastic one are the same except fur the turrets right? Theyre interchangable?
>>96966223Nope
>>96966261So you cant stick an arcus/omega turret on a regular sicaran?
>>96966267You can, but the resin turret ring was smaller so it won't hold in place, got to magnetize it
>>96966275Ah bugger.
So kratoses are finally good in 3e, what about sicarans?
>>96966261>>96966223They are not the same BUUUUUT you can get 3d printed collars that will fix the size.
>>96966500>>96966500>>96966500
