New idea: draft but the time to pick a card is logged and you're matched with people of similar speed, so if you're fast you end up drafting with people similarly fast.

I just played against a sauron deck in brawl, he had one card in hand and 2 blue mana open. Could have been a counterspell so I try to bait him out with some problem cards, an enchantment and artifact, no priority pause at all. I cast the real problem card and after 2 timeout expires, he casts the card in his hand, a negate.
Seems fucking suspicious to me. it happens more and more often where people just seem to take forever to realize they have a counterspell in hand after several minutes of idling.

It's a different situation compared to D&D, even though both fall under the WotC umbrella. D&D operates on brand recognition and the existing community, there's basically nothing they do better than even indie RPGs. On top of that, their money comes from people buying books and the majority of that comes from entrenched players, usually GMs who are more than willing to try out other games. So they need to cater to that demographic because they're fucked if there's nobody left to actually run sessions. On the flip side, MtG's biggest audience are casual commander players, scalpers, and collectors. The casuals will never proxy because that involves effort and time, which is worth more to them than money. The collectors will never proxy because the whole reason they're buying product is to have real product. The scalpers will never proxy because that devalues all the product they're trying to move. Look at the recent Commander Rules Committee fiasco. People tried to make a change that they thought was best for the health of the actual format. The community threatened to kill them because scalpers didn't want to lose money, collectors didn't want their shiny decks to get ruined, and casuals hate change. The MtG community hasn't broken free, because they want what WotC is giving them.

I accidentally took my grixis standard deck into historic ranked and won against some gruul mutate deck. My take away is that the lesson package with picrel is decent. And villainous wrath is good. i had a good opening hand.
