God eaters son, soul wars are the only ones I’ve read that I liked.
Currently reading blood of the everchosen and will likely read abraxias book after.

Also do yourself a favor and don’t read anything written by nick kyme.

The Gotrek and Felix novels. They are amazing if they count for Gotrek. Most new BL is mediocre to bad. Not much worth reading if you value your time.

Godeater's Son, Scourge of Fate, Soul Wars, Court of the Blind King, Gloomspite, AoS Gotrek series up to Soulslayer. Ushoran's parts in the Ushoran book are really good but that's literally 15% of the book. Spear of Shadows was what got me into AoS, so while probably outdated, it's still fun. I'm currently reading Starseer's Ruin and I like it. Seraphon feel alien enough and the imagery is great.

They're probably gonna be more elite versions of fusiliers with actual melee. That plus foot knights might mean Cities will have non-chaff that also aren't on the squatting block

Got my starter pack before I make the jump for a bigger box Skaventide or something.
Bros these things are TINY, like really really tiny. The eyes are like a single brush bristle size.
Assembling glue/plastic scrape took me almost a whole hour, probably the nerves.
Going to give painting a try today.
I really hope I'll enjoy it and can physically do it with fucked hands and not get filtered... I want this to be a part of my life so bad.
Was hoping to paint some glowy skaven runes on them, so I got the green paint, but I can tell it will be a struggle.

Also was I just stupid or is it normal to need to cut off parts of the plastic pins? Some of the models just wouldn't fit unless I either shaved some of the pushfits to a taper or cut parts of them off.
One of them I had to cut the whole bit off and just glue my little guy together and hold for a bit because it wouldn't fit no matter what.

Depends on which part of the pins you mean, it could have just been part of the sprue that you need to cut off.

Overall good start for your first time, though i think everyone will agree buying the cup was unnecessary but if money isn't an issue then why not.

Have fun with painting your first models, cherish them forever!

>>
>>97039118
>glue/plastic
Those are push-ins, you should not need any glue as it makes the models harder to connect. If you pick the skaven starter try to build the models without glue, it will be quicker and easy.
>Going to give painting a try today.
Remember to coat the models. (thin the paint in water and pass it 3 times or if you have spray you can also spray the models).
Here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLi3pVvMOjE
> but I can tell it will be a struggle.
yeah I feel that, I also struggle doing "symbol" details, sometimes I don't even bother. (I should make transfer sheets but I m also lazy).
That is strange. The models usually fit together nicely unless they have some gimmick (like for exemple one of the crimson court guys that you have to hold part in a way to be able to close the pin)
Did you paint spray the sprue before assembling it? If so the paint do make it harder to build (if you want to coat the mini that way it is better to at least protect the pins and their fitting holes with tape). Other than that it could have been factory dust but it is not common.

Well, good luck, fren!

Alright schizoposting for a sec, some guy on tga is thinking the symbol on his shield (?) is the big one on the transfer sheet. I'm honestly not so sure, but if we roll with it I tried to scale the image to something similar using the freeguild steelhelm bannerguy, then compared to the existing gargant and warhulk kits. This was done in mspaint and it's obviously shoddy, but maybe it gives us an idea of the scale we're working with. But yeah keep in mind, house of cards etc.
>>
The problem with helsmiths is if you need a horde you get 40-80 hobgrots.
More hobgrots? Seriously? You could mix in some other horde units as proxies though.

you may have to paint with your brush tip but I would stop by your local hobby store and pick up some smaller brushes, those "starter brushes" you get in those packs are crap, and probably not as small as you'll want for model painting. Worth also getting a small makeup brush so you can try dry brushing. And a spray can of primer, paint on primer works but it just takes longer for nothing.

>CoS

>Wrought from Settler's Gain, his sovereign mastery of the arcane proved such that neither Teclis nor the Tzeentch could turn their gaze from him. His renown echoes throughout Hysh, and upon this foundation he has raised an order to defy the Lumineth.

>Though the Lumineth have woven many a scheme to see him undone, each has been unraveled by his wisdom. He bears an Artifact of terrible might — the Lantern of All-Knowledge.

>Now the Lumineth seek to unseat him through a ploy of peaceful subversion — a design that plays directly into his stratagems. He has compelled them to treat justly with the other races of Settler's Gain, and taught them a measure of humility — or at the least, the semblance of it in his presence.

Gunpowder made its way to europe a lot earlier than most people think, was fairly common to see in wars from the second half of the 14th century already. CoS is very 14/15th century in their aesthetic, yknow late medieval, early renaissance, hussite stuff. I personally quite like it, it's something you don't see a lot in traditional fantasy compared to the classic high medieval stuff just like empire was, while still being distinct from said empire aesthetic.

The first evidence we have of cannons in Europe is from 1321, handguns followed maybe a decade or two later (meaning they pre-date proper full plate armour by some sixty-seventy years). Siege artillery played a pivotal role in the mid to late Hundred Years War, and handguns were major thing in the Hussite Wars which, as the other anon pointed out, were a late medieval affair (ca 1419-1434). The ironweld cannon is based on 15th century designs, the fusiliers' guns on 14th-15th century ones.

I think I understood why:
flamers, screamers, gaunt summoners, horrors, tzaangors: these things were designed individually with no cohesion.

>I think they do have some sort of design cohesion and identity
here's my realization: some people think they do, and other people think they don't.
Games Workshop thinks they don't.

They want to rework it all at some point and they see the whole range as a messy failure.
Personally I don't see it that way, the range could be updated successfully, meaningfully, and with small touch ups it could be made much more cohesive, it's not a herculean task.
...but GW thinks it is.

That's why they never want to do Tzeentch. They introduced the "fire" theme and the "fish" theme and the "horrors" theme and they fucking hate them. They want to do more birds and more eyes, or something, they want to rethink it all.
It's the only explanation for their generational neglect: they dislike the foundational pillar of the core starting units.

Flamers, horrors and screamers are fantasy models and their current design can not be seen as part of the DoT range.
And tzaangors have the same armor as kairics, the cursling and magister.
What tzeentch needs is updated horrors, flamers etc and a unit of forsaken with heavy armor.

Wasn't aware of that, did this new guy say anything about them?
Speaking of, I think the gargant kit is almost guaranteed to be two of them yeah. If you look at it closely you can see the curved part of the gate, which whould need another half to actually form the gate. You can also faintly make out the fancy "bars" that CoS has, like on the steelhelm and fusilier shields.
>>
>>97042431
So basically two giants carrying both halves of this essentially.
I wonder if gw is going to address them, the potatocam is getting clear enough that you can actually make out images, and the dude is posting actual rules and shit now. Assuming it's actually real (and it's not a plant) they'd want to get ahead of this. Maybe some reveals monday?

Looks like we are getting some more StD proxies. This time God marked chaos warriors. Going off other arcane journals. These are 1 to 1 of how the models shields will look like as well.
>>
>>97042452
If tow wanted to differentiate their chaos warrior models this would be one way to do it I guess, and I certainly wouldn't be against more options for blood warriors and myrmidesh, not to mention fucking tzeentch.
Seems like a rather strange allotment of resources though. Also haven't they really been hammering home that chaos divided isn't really a thing in the tow time period? Would be quite the 180
>>
>>97042452
those khorne shields will look great on my WE army
>>
>>97042484
>Also haven't they really been hammering home that chaos divided isn't really a thing in the tow time period?
Historically Chaos was never binary prior to AoS. in Fantasy. You were either godmarked or undivided, you were just Chaos and you could run an army dedicated to a single God or run a bunch of units with different marks as an undivided army or just take undivided marks only for another type of undivided army. The differentiation of these factions as their standalone factions rather than aspects of a whole is a recent GW move for both AoS and 40k.
Also the rumors have the 6 Chaos kits and Kislev as the next major releases. That's because the narrative is building for the Great War against Chaos, which involves Chaos doing a massive invasion from the North into Kislev.
>>
>>97042346
This is what happens to a game when DEI hires have creative power. Magic looks worse than that (since 2018)
>>
>>97042519
Yeah I know that individual chaos armies weren't a thing in aos, I was just under the impression that gw was really keeping things focused on pure undivided for tow. But that's just secondhand information of course, I don't actually know mucy about how they're handling stuff over there.
Anyway, how would this kit work? Bits to make all your warriors fully devoted to any one god? Sounds like a lot a challenge to fit into one box. Would chosen, knights, ... get a similar treatment?
>>
>>97042568
We don’t know many details other than those shields and there being 6 kits alongside and then full sized Kislev release. This is just for major releases (kits), there’s a bunch of books in the works too. The Mammoth kit is the only one we have specifics.

I want them so badly, GW please just write them into the battletome so I can use them. I don't really see the point of a "big Horror" when they could just add the mutalith. I suppose there could be something in between normal horrors and the mutalith, but I'd rather they do something original instead of "even bigger horror". It starts to get into squig territory and that kind of silly stuff doesn't really fit tzeentch.

I don't really see much of a fish theme besides starfysh and slop, which are some obscure, very much not mainline units. Tzeentch has a lot of weird shit, so continuing to make weirdo freaks works but I get what you mean. It's nowhere nearly as cohesive of a concept as nurgle or khorne. I like the birds but I don't really want them to go all in on birds for the whole range. Esoteric cosmic horror with eyes and tentacles is cool and fits tzeentch well so I hope they go more in that direction.
>>
You now remember that ogroid theridons have the 4 god marks for their banner but are STD exclusive.
>>

So the cogfort is just a piece of terrain with special rules? A la the 40k bastion defences? That’s lame. It means instead of being a mainstay it’ll stop receiving rules in a few years and be forgotten.

>>97042751
I don't think that's what he's implying, no. Earlier he talked about the rules for the hysh wizard dude, who's apparently able to teleport units, and he mentioned you wanna do this with your cogforts. Idk how the bunkers work in 40k but the fact that cogforts have legs should also make them a lot more difficult.
What I'm more worried about is the sheer practicality of bringing on to the table. I also think big expensive units like that (with shooting!) are going to be hard to balance, at least from what I've heard about knights in 40k again.

>What I'm more worried about is the sheer practicality of bringing on to the table. I also think big expensive units like that (with shooting!) are going to be hard to balance, at least from what I've heard about knights in 40k again
there's a fine line but it's very doable. As long as it's not completely fuckhuge, they could could cost it points wise like the KO ironclad, giving it a better melee profile with worse movement. It might end up being more like Alarielle or Archaon on the dragon where it's more of a decorative model and points costed way too high for a normal 2k game. I don't think it should be too hard to get something closer to the ironclad in size and stats but time will tell

You could also just do a small dirt mound with snow on it to give the effect of a snow capped mountain.

that is an absolute fact. Multiple actual hollywood suit producers said it was beyond their capabilities at the time. Hell, to this day no one has managed to produce a similar suit. This is all verifiably fact. And I'm supposed to believe Patterson, or some trapper in his shitty mining town he paid to make it for him and keep it on the downlow, knew how to create a suit that not even the experts have managed to replicate to this day? Over 50 years Hollywood artists, Digital artists, Practical effects designers, Skeptical recreators have all attempted to replicate the PGF creature and every single attempt
>Lacks the muscle ripple
>Has wrong proportions
>Shows visible suit seams
>Moves like a man in a suit

Cities is in the top 5 hardest to paint factions for AoS, maybe top 3. More than the actual difficulty, it's also just very time consuming if you want to actually paint all the different details and filigree to look kind of how it looks on the box. If you're coming from 40k you should already know what your getting into, but I would expect painting CoS units to take probably 3 times as long as necrons.

if they're anything like my LGS it's probably only 10-15% off from whatever the current LGS price is. I've picked up most of my army second hand. The founding foray christmas box is pretty good but the new spearhead is kind of redundant with the ogor character.

See if you can get the old spearhead. I think GW is still making them but snag it if you can. It has steelhelms (which you will need) and some more cav and another canon. It's just a cooler and more useful box vs the warcry guys, more rifles, and another ogor.

I also heard the new spearhead is weaker than the old one in the actual game of Spearhead.

I saw plenty of people complaining about the Nightbringer leak which forced GW to just show the whole model because it wasn't "hype" enough. I don't get it personally.

I painted the Wildercorps Hunters. They were a joy to paint, and the dogs too. I breezed through them in a week. From experience, painting dudes on horses is a pain if you're a perfectionist and sub assemble them in parts to paint everything on them. Big war machines too. The rest looks prety easy though. I say go for it, but then I did paint an entire army of Skaven (310 models) so these look like a fairly easy job to me.

I think you kind of answered your own question anon. As always pick the models you will enjoy hobbying and be proud to field. It's fine to make a neat fluffy list but don't expect to win. Throw in a couple reliable, meta options that you like as a safeguard to prevent a total stomp, I suppose.

>Why do some people seethe at leaks and insist they are bad and evil?
For me specifically those blurred photos feel more luke controlled marketing than real leaks, that is either done by gw themselves or some idiot who wants attention.
Pic related for example was a real leak, people can actually see the miniature and start speculating what the rest of the range looks like etc.
For the example in your picture, its fucking reddit what do you expect.

>Perlo felt fragile things crunch beneath her as she fought her way back up the shifting bank. One hand came up with something thin-walled and hollow. A skull, she thought, and then, A cup? But it was neither. In her hand sat a broken egg, lozenge-shaped and as big as her fist. Through the end she’d smashed open she saw a curled-up lizard shape, large-headed, premature.

>‘Pools of breeding.’ Irixi was wringing at its robe.

>‘I’m sorry.’

>‘For why?’

>‘Your… young. Your children, or…?’ The thing in the egg certainly looked like it might have grown up into an Irixi. Or else just some big lizard. The whole thing seemed oddly heavy, and she realised it had been transmuted into or coated with stone. Some quality of the water, she guessed. Shyish, obsessively burying and fixing everything that came under the realm’s aegis.

>‘Is not of children. Is of beast. Beast-servant.’ The Seraphon looked from her to the egg. ‘Divine Starborne, we form of the waters, of the magic, of the will of the Masters. Only lesser beings arise from egg or womb.’

>That’s put me in my place, Perlo thought. Did that mean the Seraphon weren’t really… alive, like some magical construct? She felt an acute stab of alienation, trying to understand life without something as intrinsic as family, children

I think reddit doesn't realise that they come from tga, from a guy with at least some credibility. So it's just random blurry pics with zero provenance to them. It's funny how mad they get though.

Damn, I think that's the same price as skaventide. So 210 euros, like 250 burgers? Quite hefty, cursed city was a lot less.

If you're not in a tournament the exact placement doesn't matter. Just throw 6" circles down in approximate locations. A 160mm base is good for this tbhon, though 6" is actually 154mm or something

then yeah. If you don't have autism it's obvious they share next to nothing in common.

>>
>>97044940
yeah their power armor doesnt actually have any of the mechanical power armor elements or like power packs or anything, and the armor style is fairly reminiscent of stormcast

the only real problem is that the models themselves look small even on their 32mm bases. so they 100% would not work for stormcast. but for some kind of stormcast adjacent cities of sigmar unit or like elven allies of sigmar or something? sure

that said, at $60 for 5 small models, you're not exactly in for a bargain, and you'd kinda just be better off buying vanquishers or something where you get twice the models for the cost and they're actually stormcast
>>
>>97045003
60 for 5 sisters is really weird, are they resin or something? They don't seem like very ornate models or anything
>>

I remember in monster hunter there were a significant amount of people getting pissed, not at data miners and leaks, but at marketing reveals. They felt entitled almost to going into a game completely blind. Probably doesn’t translate well to war games though

I really adore the BoK that launched the army in 2015. Yeah the models look cartoony and have stocky proportions, but I find that charming. They look like evil henchmen from a Hanna-Barbera cartoon with a grimdark glazing. Just lovely little dudes.
>>
>>97045102
Wdym that’s how a bunch of the 5 model units are priced
>>
Someone explain why they Legends Kainans gang? It's not like the reapers are drowned for choice in terms of units what with having 20 of them including all the characters.
>>
>>97045432
Yeah, I presumed GBP or Euro but still
£38 for 100pts, 5 models
£40 for 280pts, 5 Chaos Chosen models
40k is more expensive in general
>>
>>97045470
If they were a generic unit they would sell more of them which is obviously not in GW's best interests
I think it's a supply issue. If GW can't keep it in stock and provide official rules for models in rotation production they lose any copyright battle against people making rip offs intended for proxies like chapterhouse which would snowball into exposing how ridiculous their IP rights are
>>
Come to think of it, despite there being a whole game about the Silver Towers the Gaunt Summoners fly around in, I don't believe there's a visual for the Silver Towers in AoS.

It.
Could be better, the book evidently exists just for the author to try his best at handling very different points of views between the human and lizard characters; it's having some nice moments, but I think the differences fall flat after a while, becoming slightly predictable and dragged along.
One of the main points of view is a stormcast, and so far it's the most evocative parts, speaking as someone who wanted as much lizard as possible and doesn't like stormcasts.

It feels fresh and worth it to me simply because you can't really get lizards pov elsewhere.
