>>97045253Can it turn?
>>97045186>>97045199>>97045228Cheers for answers, so why did GW do a 180 and basically reintroduce it? Is it a younger generation showing interest after exposure to the CA video games, or a nostalgia cash grab? Or something else? I'm just worried I'm going to get into something for GW to take it away again
>>97045253Looks dumb but at least it’s not over designed >>97045238Throughly boring for warriors. I haven’t seen all the items though.
>>97045262They want the rank and flank audience.> I'm just worried I'm going to get into something for GW to take it away againThey won’t do that for any of its pillars unless they want to lose their shareholders
>>97045262It's because Creative Assembly created a popular trilogy of real-time strategy video games based on Warhammer Fantasy Battles, and Games Workshop hoped that some of that popularity would translate to sales of toy soldiers.
>>97045262They found out that AoS setting is quite unpopular, they lost a lot of good faith among player base - plus the popularity of Warhammer-based video games like Total War or Vermintide made them re-think their bussiness choices. Plus they figured out they can earn some nostalgia bucks. Then the success of the game was so big, to GW surprise, they decided to "enlarge the scope" and from a small specialist game, it took its place as fully fledged game - where it should be.
>>97045238China #1/10
>>97045262for a number of reasons, gw grew massively some time after they canned fantasy, so they feel safe enough to try again, and fantasy in the meanwhile has gained nostalgic value and popularity thanks to videogames (both total war and vermintide)if there's uncertainty regarding what's going to happen to this new fantasy editions is in 2 things:GW as a company is moving away from metal and resin to use only plastic, and that means that one day models that are currently in metal or resin might get removed again, and not necessarily with a plastic replacement. The internal dynamics going on between the two main subdivisions of gw: the one that manages the main games (aos, 40k, kill team, underworlds, qarhammer quest) and the one that manages the others (horus heresy, the old world, blood bowl, necromunda). This division of both games, products and IPs seems to be a division in budgets and sales too, they're essentially in competition with themselves and some factions/units/concepts are getting handled like kids in a divorce. For example TOW getting beastmen meant that AoS lost them, AoS having seraphon, skaven, ogres, chaos dwarfs, color coded chaos, vampires and dark elves still, means that TOW cannot officially support them, so as of now they're only getting "legacy" rules, not very good ones either in places, and it's up in the air whether TOW will ever manage to get those factions back with their old models, or even with brand new models, because it's possible that the competition between the two sides means that they'll try to specialise about what they're doing and how they're doing stuffIf you want to get into this and have absolutely no rug pulled from underneath you, you would have to buy only the absolute newest plastic stuff for a faction, cathay is safe, all of it is new and plastic, the new chaos marauders are safe, the older chaos stuff, even the plastic one, not necessarily, we already have rumors for new kits for warriors, chosen and knights
>>97045259...you into paste? yes
>>97045238It sucks. There are exactly 2 magic items worth taking and the chaotic traits are boring.
>>97045204In terms of points? The bloodcrave box has a lot more of them. But in terms of providing a versitile core for your army? I would consider the tomb host. More bodies, cheaper units, and both grave guard and black knights are easy to slot into your list (as opposed to BKs and vargheists)
>>97045238Path to Glory seems decent, but it should have been in the same book as Battle Match
>>97045238I dont like the new marauder profiles. They seem like nerfs to already not very good units.
>>97045340I think some of the new weapons are cool. The arcane items seem solid. The banners seem fun, and the "no killing blow" talisman is interesting.
>>97045415Am I missing something? They got light armour for free and gained horde. They lost marks but got access to chaotic traits. Is losing access to frenzy that big a loss?
>TQ>For example in dwarfs, are gyrocopters going too far for you?Yes, actually. I don't know it this will be an unpopular opinion, but I unironically think the aerostats are less of an eyesore than actual fucking helicopters. While I acknowledge that there's anachronism in Warhammer, this particular jump always stands out to me. Even the Skaven who shamelessly jump much further into the future don't pull this shit, but the hyper traditionalist dwarfs did it long ago?I don't know, I guess it just feels like these contraptions are way more widespread than the relatively simpler lighter-than-air ships, when I think the places should be switched in terms of how common they are, if not outright scrubbing the 'copters. Incidentally, I used to mind them less when their older models presented them as delicate, thin frames to keep them light, but now they're absolute units.
>>97045460They were 6ppm before with light armor as 1ppm werent they? Now theyre 7ppm but with light armor built in, you just lost an option. Horsemen lost javelins for no reason. Also yea, marks are a lot better than the current cults. Frenzy is potentially +50% damage.
>>97045193Had a 1250p game today, we rolled for what battle scenario and got Break Point. My opponent got the first turn and blasted my ungors and razorgor out of existence and made 3 wounds on my ghorgon. On my turn all I could really do was move my units up, after another round of shooting attacks against my Bestigors and Ghorgon I made it into combat with nearly all my units. Except for my Beastlord and the Bestigors, whom I also rolled stupid on the gaze of the gods table. After that it was a downward spiral of failing leadership tests, fleeing and getting shot until my army was broken and I lost the game. Had a good time tho rolling dice and bantering.
>>97045467Here’s the army itself too, my apologies for having unpainted and half-finished minis.
>>97045472Compared to you opponent, you are doing a good job with painting your mini anon
>>97045193>>97045462Im kinda in the same boat, I know its an unpopular position to be in but I really dont like them, especially in their current iteration.I think as you say they are way too refined and solid looking, almost sci fi to a point and I think it clashes with the rest of the dwarf aesthetics. I do agree the more ramshackle and experimental looking early designs worked better, you could really imagine older dwarfs being horrified at such creations, but the newer ones look more refined than 90% of the entire army.My other one I hate is the old Empire Mechanical Steed. It just feels like flanderisation of the faction. That said, keep in mind Im pretty sure both these things were really added into the game in the dark era of 2005-2015, when steampunk was gaining a foothold in popular culture before everyone suddenly realised how dogshit it was.To a lesser extent I also hate that empire laser carriage thing, but thats more because I think its just a shit model.
>>97045465Ive been seeing people saying theyre still 6ppm and get light armour in all the reviews? Old world builder is still out of date.Yeah cults are garbage, I dont know what they were thinking with them.I feel the chaotic traits are more of a sidegrade if anything, also if you are doing an at all god themed army and khorne is the only one really worth taking as a mark you kinda get limited there.
>>97045484The gyrocopter is quite old actually, this was from '94 and it's possible there were earlier mentions or depictions
>>97045119>Tatar/Cossack is Ukrainian tropeabsolutely but the point is that the only historical empire that had winged hussars, cossacks and tatars is the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth. Also Kislev is a jewish word and you know, Poland is/was full of jews and Poland does have the sound 'V' if not the letter, and the name is anglicized so its hardly relevant.
>>97045484>To a lesser extent I also hate that empire laser carriage thing, but thats more because I think its just a shit model.Same. I didn't see fit to mention it because my dislike is purely aesthetic. In terms of being "too fantastic", it's simply a magic contraption mounted on a wagon. Can't deny its existence over that. Now the SKYCUTTER, on the other hands, fails on every level, at least in my opinion. No amount of justification on how it flies with magic can make it look any less horrendous, and even if you buy the magic flotation device, it still looks dumb as fuck in motion in my head, and it got justified now that it exists in the video game.
>>97045415>Light armor for free>Ambusher option for free>Horde + Warband which is a very strong rule combo>30mm base which is a side gradeOh man these nerfs.. please play a game of The Old World first before commenting on rules
>>97045504Oh yeah thats what I mean, that one you pictured looks like its experimental and risky, the plastic kits look more well built and refined than anything else in the range or even the setting. When I said introduced around 2005-2015 (the worst decade in human culture in history) I was referring to the new plastic redesigns but I wasnt very clear there.Im not a huge fan of that old kit but I think it fits much much better into the army design wise.
>>97045238T5 infantry really shouldn't be a 2 point hand out
>>97045479Thanks Anon
>>97045513Oh god the fucking skycutter. I keep forgetting how much stupid shit was introduced to warhammer fantasy in its last years.
>>97045513>Now the SKYCUTTER, on the other hands, fails on every level, at least in my opinion.Isnt the skycutter a Lothern specific unit like it starts and land on water? I always assumed that it functions like a hovercraft and the eagle is pulling it.
>>97045193Do we know if the chaos maurader set is a limited run? I’m gutted I never got a chance to order one
>>97045305>the one that manages the main games (aos, 40k, kill team, underworlds, qarhammer quest) and the one that manages the others (horus heresy, the old world, blood bowl, necromunda).So... is that why ToW, BB, and Necromunda are good? Does that mean horus heresy is good?
>>97045462The plastic gyros were 8th edition trash so I don't blame you, the older ones have that "crazy fucking engineer trying his latest invention" feel and were rare + high points cost to express that. Now in a much earlier time period we have MORE gyros that are special and come in fucking SQUADRONS, and they're also highly sleek in design? Get outta here.
>>97045546The reinforcement box is a FOMO box. The kits themselves will be released as separate boxes at some point, either December or January
>>97045517Going from 25mm to 30mm is not a side grade, it's an objective improvement in all aspects save for unit maneuverability. Being able to have characters join units of marauders without base size incompatibility is a huge improvement, being more resistant to templates is good, and marauders always have A1 now so they will never lose out on attacks by being wider. However, losing access to marks means they have lost four potential roles: sorcerer bunkers with the mark of tzeentch, mark of khorne + flails + skirmish, shield + light armour + mark of nurgle chaff, and great weapons + skirmish + mark of slaanesh for +1I during the first round of combat. This is, in all regards, a massive nerf to their versatility. This isn't even addressing the fact people (with the exception of players using the Wolves of the Sea list, and even then they weren't using regular marauders) weren't using marauders for anything and now the few niche roles they could have filled are just gone. Having the privilege of paying +2ppm for +1 toughness doesn't compensate for that.
>>97045462>While I acknowledge that there's anachronism in Warhammer, this particular jump always stands out to me.It is surely more of a matter of the concept of copters being way more practical to sculpt, cast and sell, and carry around and play with on a table, compared to models of hot air balloons, but if I'm not mistaken, even historically the theory of flight with rotor blades got studied before air buoyancy. It's just that there was no way on earth to realistically power any mechanism to achieve lift that way.So if we imagine dwarfs as having discovered some kind of efficient fuel way early, then it's not too impossible to imagine copters as appearing before balloons. And they must have some miraculous fuel for such small aircrafts (I like to think it's fantasy beer, or fluids from dragon organs). But then again, it's still weird the traditional dwarfs would be pioneers for this specific thing over others, it easily looks silly in a bad way, and even then they would have probably invented planes first.
>>97045503>Ive been seeing people saying theyre still 6ppm and get light armour in all the reviews? Old world builder is still out of date.Oh, nvm then, Its a buff I guess.
>>97045555Ambusher was pretty useless in a pre 1.5 TOW, but this is a different game. Wolves of the Sea actually did see more play post 1.5, which is why Ambusher is now a baseline ability for Marauders.
>>97045563>And they must have some miraculous fuel for such small aircraftsIsnt dwarf alcohol so strong that other races cant drink it? So maybe it runs on ethanol fuel
>>97045527Ok this kind of leads me to a maths question that my semi dyslexic brain is not sure on:Does it matter where in a rolling sequence a plus or minus one bonus goes?Like does is roll thats a 3+ to hit, a 4+ to wound and then a 5+ armour save mathematically identical to a 3+ to hit, a 5+ to wound and a 4+ armour save?
>>97045505Why the fuck would GW be inspired by hebrew word as the name of slavic-based country for crying out loud? It's most probably Kiev + Slav words that inspired the name.PLC had very few Cossack and Tatar units for a short period of time (30 years?) - and almost all of them betrayed Poland during 17th century wars. The problem is, in Polish terminology of that time, native cavalry units were called by the origin, so medium cavalry was called "cossack cavalry" (jazda kozacka - "riding LIKE cossacks"), light cavalry (jazda tatarska - "riding LIKE Tatars) etc. They WEREN'T Tatar or Cossack units - they were Polish units made of Poles. It's a confusing factor when non-native is reading about Polish cavalry. Even Pole who doesn't know a thing about Polish 17th century military confuses those terms. Real Tatar or Cossack units were rare - and occured very early in PLC history.
>>97045555>shield + light armour + mark of nurgle chaffThey went down a point, Id say taking the new marauders +1 T for the same points as old marauders with mark of nurgle is an improvement in 90% of cases
>>97045579yes, it's all the sametake 100 attacks3+ to hit means, 2/3 must be takenthen of those, 4+ is 1/2then of those, 5+ is 1/3100 x 2/3 x 1/2 x 1/3 = 11,11...change the order to 100 x 2/3 x 1/3 x 1/2 and it's still 11,11... the order doesn't matter on multiplications
>>97045578Dark elves drink dwarf vodka. Its a "stay warm" drink for when youre out in the snow.
>>97045527>T5 infantry really shouldn't be a 2 point hand outIts not*Its limited to light armor infantry, so marauders.
>>97045602Ok I was like 90% sure that it was so but I wasn't 100%, thanks heaps! Definitely going to help make some value decisions easier in the future.
>>97045579>Like does is roll thats a 3+ to hit, a 4+ to wound and then a 5+ armour save mathematically identical to a 3+ to hit, a 5+ to wound and a 4+ armour save?>does order of operations matter in multiplicationNo.2x3x4 is the same as 4x2x3
>>97045608I think he means the berzerkers you can take in wolves of the sea. I dont really see them actually being a problem at all at t5 though
>>97045619>>97045608Ok these sort of beg the question: is it worth taking the T5 upgrade on Huskarls? Since you can take a 1 point upgrade to heavy armour and effectively have the same mathematical effect in 90% of all cases
>>97045619they were already a problem
>>97045619Yea, hence the asterisk. Its not so much "t5 infantry" as "t5 in a very specific situation"I dont know if t5 berserkers are worth it, but it does sound potentially obnoxious. Theyre like 10ppm at that point, potentially a very cost effective holding unit vs other infantry.
>>97045630I feel like strength up is much more rare than AP on the Huscarls greatest weakness (shooting) so for me it's a no brainer. Most shooting is gonna be strength 3 or more rarely 4 against them.
>>97045544I think it's the eagle that truly kills it. If it was some magical creature that actually levitates, like those flying horse chariots from indian myth, I think my brain could come to terms with the image of it riding through the sky, or even standing still mid-air. But you get a normal ass eagle, and now it NEEDs to be flapping its wings or gliding forward in order not to fall off and it becomes silly.Should've just gone with the easiest option and just make Lothern soldiers riding on an eagle's back like the wood elves do, but I guess then there would be overlap and we can't have that.
>>97045596It depends on what you're trying to chaff. Going from T3 to T4 won't help them bog up a dragon lord, but forcing said dragon lord to re-roll 6s to hit might. The new marauders will be better at chaffing infantry and maybe cavalry, but will that even really be useful (especially with restrain & reform being a possibility) and how expensive these T4 shield marauders are?
>>97045585Kislev is roughly December in the Hebrew calendar so it alludes to the place being wintry. You are perhaps not aware how significant jewish culture and settlement was in the historical regions referenced by the faction. Again if they wanted to be a very on the nose reference to Russia they'd have called it Muscovy or possibly something like Novgorod. As for the nomenclature or period, Kislev is just a mashing together of all those cultures and not a historical fact, my point is simply that it is easy for GW to dissociate Kislev from Russia because they only thing uniquely Russian about it is the title of Tzar (a Polish king even assumed the title though), and Poland is the next closest historical nation they could tie it to. I don't actually think GW have any issue with it, it's purely an internal decision.
>>97045707>Poland is the next closest historical nation they could tie it to.Like I said - I disagree. I feel zero Polish vibes from Kislev - apart from those wings, but again - winged lancers look more like Mongolian cavalry with wings bolted to their back, than Polish winged hussars. Recent concept art and Total War show even more Mongolian aescethics in Kislev. So again - nope. There will be no polonisation of Kislev, if anything - they gonna be more similiar to Cathay - aescethically and lore-wise.
>>97045707They Ungols/Gospodar split is also very Russian. The current geographic state of Kislev in TOW stretching out to the east is also very Russian.
>>97045298And never forget it.
>>97045253>daemon railgun with a barrel made out of warpgates cooleverything else about the carriage is cartoonishly dumb
>>97045843the tribes are ass backwards by historical standards, the Cossacks didn't originate from the baltic like the Ungols sort of do in Kislev and white Russians didn't originate from eastern steppe nomads like the Gospodars do so it is a reversal of the historical situation. Also even if Kislev in TOW stretches out to the east, the heartlands are more like Poland and Ukraine with big rivers, oblasts, the not-Baltic and bordering not-Germany.
>>97045922Why did they design her to look like a simian sea-prostitute?
>>97045993If you read " Something Rotten in Kislev" ("Enemy Within" campaign) you'd know Kislev is basically Russia with Mongolian admixture. Names, bestiary, mythology - everything is very clearly eastern Slavic, you won't find there even a drop of Polish folklor or culture. Zip. Nada.
>>97046001She's transcendentally beautiful and much taller than common folk.
>>97045193What points value should I be playing if I’m brand new to ToW?
>>97046078SRiK is even weirder in that version since it's non-chaotic Norsemen who are the ruling class, not the Ungols or the Gospordars
>>97046116If you just want to give the system a try, go for 500-750 points since that's the points cost for Battle March

Though instead of fire, he taught humans warfare... and cosmetics.
Lazy proof of concept for an "Ancestral Warriors" unit from the game, but is it too shit an idea/execution? Low on time currently for painting such detailed infantry so looking for ways to expedite some squads so the time and detail can go onto other units.

Otherwise Chaos could get in.

>>97046491Of course, I'd also love to see something leaning into slavic folklore with hags like Mother Ostankya and her spirits of the woods. But I would want those to be a distant secondary consideration to the mundane mainline Kislev. The rare exception to a Kislev army, not the rule.

>>97046843
>>97046785Theyre 7ppm, 8 with shields. Give them a demonic gift/cult and theyre 10ppm+ for s3 Ap- A1 dudes in a faction with no shooting
>>97046856What marauders needed to be was just cheap. Make them 4ppm and ws3 or whatever idc. Either make them the cheap "meat" that chaos has always lacked or make them elite enough to actually hold their own and win in fights. As is, theyre neither and bad in both roles. The new changes didnt make that better, they made it worse, because you dont even have MoK for a potentially high damage output, you just have nothing.
>>97046750>aos get grounded and historically attested guns resting on bardiches>tow gets lol gunaxe it's both a gun and an axe get it lmaoHuh?
>>97046856>no shootingSure, if we ignore the absolutely bonkers magic shooting that they have. The only other faction that matches up to them is Beastmen and that's because of their broken magic item to reroll failed wound rolls.
miao ling should sit on my face and fart
>>97046923>the absolutely bonkers magic shooting that they havelolthey have what? that one arcane item that gives you a bound summoning? Gee theyre as good as viletide spam now!
>>97046878We're living in silly timesfor the next trick, aos keeps chaos warriors and knights with plain 6th ed style chaos armor, while tow gets trim hell warriors and knights that might as well be chosen
>>97046944She's occupied laying eggs.
>>97046878>>aos get grounded and historically attested guns resting on bardichesYeah and it sucks. If the Freeguild relaunch was just gonna rip off 40k's Imperial Guard then they could at least have gotten lasguns to top things off. But noooo, we gotta do handgonnes now for some reason.
>>97046945...no? Blue Fire is an insanely good Magic Missile that works on lot of things. Pair that with Battle Magic and you have a murderous caster. This is before adding any items or marks.Viletide otoh is carried entirely by the Hagtree Fetish. This does, inarguably, make the spell too strong. Without it it's a fairly mediocre spell that sounds spookier on paper as in practice the amount of wounds you are rolling with it aren't that high. The Rod of the Damned is slightly less useful now in 1.5 since the power level 2 actually means it's only getting a +1 to its casting roll. I'm not sure I'd take that if I was making a shooty Sorcerer. 40pts for a single level spell cast at +1 is quite high.
>>97047039Handgonnes are based thoughbeit and criminally underused in fantasy.
>>97046878Who told you the AOS's guns and bardiches wouldn't be silly and over designed ?
>>97046811both influenced by the steppe.
>>97046827They were used by Polish and German cavalry
>>97047166I'm not that anon, but I wouldn't qualify Blue Fire and a 4/6 (or 5/6 if you have the spell familiar) chance to get Fireball (which isn't even that good, AP0 really sucks) as "murderous". Remember, Pillar of Fire sucks now. And it's not like other armies can't do something similar, if not outright better. Orcs, Wood Elves, and Brets can all use an army lore spell to do that same combo as well and there's probably more that I'm missing too. Blue Fire is definitely nice but it's not overpowered. As for the Rod of the Damned, I sort of disagree. On a level 1 sorcerer with daemonology on a steed with the long strider chaotic trait might be pretty good, but even then I wouldn't call that murderous. There's nothing about chaos that particularly makes them stand out as a magic missile army and don't get me started on how awful the new spell lore is.
>>97046770>Dwarf philosophyIf its old and tested its based, if Its new and unproven, its cringe.shrimple as that.Any more mental energy spent on the topic is frivolous.

Hmm, you think i could use my hundred year war british army as boarder princes renegade crowns? I could throw in my one Napoleonic cannon there as a bombard. If my opponent was ok with it ofc.Think it would be kind of neat to have something that fits the gap between 1300'sesque britonnia and 1500'sesque empire with a c.1400 inspired army. If my opponent was willing ofc. (Live on an island and dont have anyone here who plays ToW, its merely hypothetical at this point in time)
>>97047166>magic spamYea, let me just put some cheap wizards in my MoT marauder blocks. Oh wait. WoC didnt have insane magic shooting even before all the changes and nerfs.
>>97045415I mean a block of 25-30 with HW+S is still going to be OK as a cheap anvil and the lowest cost option for anvils in WoC. The changes to flails and frenzy killed offensive marauders even before they lost MoK.The chaos gift for +1T is interesting on berserkers and huscarls. T5 is pretty good and it's worth the trade-off of -1 potential save IMO, although I think the whole book is way too worried about people having fun and they should just have enabled T5 chaos warriors too. Nothing you can do with the WoC-specific here comes anywhere near to degen Cathay. It's still funny that you can get T7 marauder huscarls (for one turn only and only with a nurgle sorc). I'm kind of interested in playing around with putting vanguard on a lone character too I guess, I think there's some fun stuff you can do with that. The most impactful changes are going to be the generic magic items they've introduced. The anti-monster banner is going to pop up everywhere. It makes it so your premier infantry unit and/or deathstar can't just get dragon'd. The vibe I get is just that we're slowly moving back to WHFB 8th and once we get there I'll stop playing TOW.
>>97045238Are there screenshots of the path to glory mechanic in it?
>>97047285>I mean a block of 25-30Thats going to be like 300pts or something. And youre basically buying worse dwarf warriors. It might be the best anvil in the book, but that just speaks to how shit the other options are.
>>97047166Are you sure that the power level 2 thing means they only get +1 to cast? The rules for bound spells say you directly add the listed power level to the casting value. That's why the Ruby Ring of Ruin was reduced to PL1, so you would only get +1 to cast with it, but the Rod of the Damned is PL2 so you get +2 to cast.
>>97047291This YouTuber covers the path to glory at around 11:1,1 so you can pause the video and read it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OWKPAZWo2c&t=2524s
>>97047260Not much to show, but I have slowly been working on my gors, basically just finished the skin and now doing the fur. No pictures at the moment though.
>>97047296It's like 200-250pts. Yes dwarf warriors are definitely better at the job but sometimes you just need a unit that can sit on a point and lose guys for a while. The base size nerf on marauders was definitely unwarranted, I'll give you that.
>>97047218Not really. I'm kinda into history of Polish 17th century warfare and armory - and found NO reliabe source (in Polish) that such weapon was used in Polis armies. Sure, maybe some nobles had it as curiosity, but no way it was used en masse. Pic related - my books about history of Polish warfare (two about weapons and armor, one is a diary of a nobleman from that era, who was in the army).

>>97047225For a blaster caster you definitely want / need some items to guarantee the spells you want. It doesn't work otherwise. This locks you out of the Infernal Puppet which is a problem that needs to be solved. Blue Fire is a good, strong spell that I feel is well balanced. But by itself it's not enough if you want to compete an entire gunline. Fireball is still good and while the lack of AP sucks and the Fire keyword can be almost as often a negative as it can be a positive, it does have a decently long range. Pillar is worse but being able to dictate where it moves was a bit too much. It still does a decent amount of damage and you can plop it between you and your enemy if you just want to stay at range. Most shooting units can't really do anything if an enemy does actually catch them. And the problem with the new spell lore's blasty spells is that two of them are a worse Viletide and without the Hagtree Fetish. As I said, Viletide is a mediocre spell without that one item that propels it into being severely OP, and morphs the Beastmen from being a melee focused horde faction to being a fairly lame "gunline" with an awful spell that you can barely interact with as a player on the receiving end because of the multitude of other bullshit surrounding it (almost impossible to dispel, can't even roll most of your saves). But they are an outlier so it's not something I like to compare with the more balanced factions out there. Forgetting Beastmen and forgetting Cathay cannons and balloons and focusing on the majority of non-legacy factions I actually do think are fairly well balanced, a Chaos Sorcerer is on the upper rung when it comes to casting spells with the intent of murder. They get good boosts to casting without it feeling overpowered.

And then they made it so you can just buy +1T on any unit in light or no armor anyway lol. Written in 5 minutes on someone's notes app before the deadline IMO.I would love to know who at GW hates marks of chaos. They cut them from mark-lookalikes in AOS's current slaves to darkness and now they've done the same thing for WHFB marauders. I wonder if it's part of the broader compatmentalization goal to sell an army for each chaos god and they view marks as intruding on this because you could technically play 2 armies with 1 set of models.

>>97047300I actually don't have a conclusive answer to that . This is just how it has been played in my area and I've gone along with it. I've also seen some youtube channels occasionally mention it as well. I could be wrong, but I prefer to nerf myself when in doubt. The 1.5 update brought some needed changes but because the fixes were more like bandaid fixes it left some units in awkward situations, like Dwarf Ironbreakers not benefitting from Parry and kind of losing their niche as a defensive dwarfen unit. So I saw the bound items and their points cost as part of the oversight that the changes to Wizard casting values being adjusted. I'd love to see if anyone had an alternative argument.

>>97047445It is AI slop, asked it to make a sketch drawing of the pic I took from the game, along with telling it to remove the bases of the minis and continue the terrain from the battlefield's edge to make the landscape continuous. It's not perfect, but I wanted a sketch anyways to make it seem like someone was drawing a recreation of the battle told to them.

>>97047379I'm not sure I understand what you're saying about the Infernal Puppet. People have been taking the Puppet on their sorcerers of Tzeentch because they can't take the Lore Familiar if they want to also take the Blue Fire of Tzeentch. An FAQ stated that the Lore Familiar requires you to only take spells from your chosen lore and prevents you from replacing one of them with a spell from your army lore. Check out pretty much any list on Old World Rankings and you'll see what I'm talking about. If anything, chaos gets screwed over because sorcerers have to pay a 10 point tax to have access to a magic missile from their army lore. I generally agree with the rest of your post except for the bit about getting good boosts to casting. Where? Apart from the bonus from the mark of Tzeentch, which I would argue is very conditional and not something most people are bothering with, there really aren't any other bonuses they can get. It's not fair to compare them to Wild Herd, but the point needs to be made. Wild Herd shamans get to cast at +4 for basically zero cost, while chaos sorcerers have to park themselves in a bunker, pay for the mark of Tzeentch several times, and have one sorcerer sacrifice their arcane item slot for the Skull of Katam to get that kind of power.>>97047421I think you're getting wizard levels and power levels mixed up. The rules say that you just add the power level directly to the casting value for bound spells.

>TQreading through some of the replies, i am probably an outlier but i don't mind the gyrocopters. for me, the more modern/sci-fi elements are part of why warhammer fantasy is an interesting and unique universe. i like the renaissance level of technology and even the occasional more advanced tech like the steam tank or gyrocopters. it gives the empire more character than "the good guy humans" and it gives dwarfs more character than "angry short guys that hate elves". it's why i've always preferred it to 40k, which is bog-standard sci-fi shit and not remotely interesting or unique beyond introducing fantasy races like orcs and elves as aliens.

And while the success of 3.0 can be argued, I don't think that shit will not fly within the Fantasy community. While TOW has differences to 6th/8th ed Fantasy, it clearly shares the same DNA and most of the core stuff is same as older Fantasy editions. If TOW 2E changes fundamental things about the core rules or completely re-writes how certain stuff works, then I feel like the edition will be DoA and the community will revert to how it was post-ET.
>>970481043.0 is, in terms of "broad rules" still very clearly the same 7e hack as 1e or 2e.It has changes (mainly "you can shoot and charge something different") but its a lot closer than something like 8e is to 6e, or TOW is to 8e.
>>97048104Not him but we have it reliably that Kislev is coming soon (next year)
I fucking wish tow was closer to 8e. Games boring as shit rn
I didn't like 8th as much as I like TOW
>>97048135disagree, for a start HH3.0 adding four more stats is a far more fundamental change than anything TOW did differently from 8th ed. TOW has pretty much never changed any unit options from 8th, nor have the terrain rules changed as much. Tl;dr HH3.0 is a lot less recognisable as 7th ed 40k than TOW is to 8th WFB.
>>97048172>for a start HH3.0 adding four more stats is a far more fundamental change than anything TOW did differently from 8th edI disagree. TOW removed an entire phase and also power dice. Adding what are essentially "alternative LD values" to units is a much lesser change. The game still plays the same, you just roll against a different value for some things. >TOW has pretty much never changed any unit options from 8th>WoC>nor have the terrain rules changed as muchCompared to 8e terrain rules?

The two forest and fallow field I placed along center line and made all 3 dangerous terrain, he placed both hills and a rough terrain forest. The center base is a misslepig that I don't have a model for and the black felt with mountain is my herdstone I haven't built yet for. Otherwise cockatrice and my ghorgon model filling in as a cygor. Skin of man my great bray shaman in front of his 5 naked wolf riders in the hope my +1 will give me first turn and let me start flank collapsing. Of note on his side, he specifically took one of his night goblin bosses out of the unit to sit at the top right to prevent my ambushers on that side, otherwise everything is pretty much as you see. Orc boar biggun's with full command, ork big boss kitted to max, ork boss BSB, lvl 2 ork weird boy with lore familiar Fireball and oaken shield as his deathstar.I failed the turn roll, he got first turn.

He shoots a ballista shot into my Cygor and hits. 2 wounds. He shoots another ballista shot into my Cygor and hits, 2 more. He launches the doom diver. Cygor dies. Tragedy! Everything is going wrong already. Otherwise he spins his black orks 90 to protect his flank, moves the boars forward, and the troll trundles ahead.I jungle march my primal herd into a spot just out of range of his boars to charge. Move my pig up and get him ready. Cockatrice flies to forest. Back to the fight! Gaze of the gods had given her +1 attack. That should get her over the hump easy with the primal assailment spell (which didn't go off enemy turn). Assailment goes off, hits 3, nothing dies to the ravens. Fighting on equal terms now I lash out, get 1 wound. He fights back, and once again chomps my arm. Pushes her back on overwhelm, but second mad tragedy, she fails terribly, and gets run down! Gambit completely failed.

>>97048494His turn, He moves his boars up to prepare a charge next turn. Moves black orcs towards board edge, rolls stupid on troll, holds both goblins to prevent rear ambushes. Shoots both ballista at my pig, both miss. Shoots doom diver at herd, wild miss. Fireball fails to cast. He turns his dogs to look at the Cockatrice. Was ready to call it as I was in a dire ass spot, but lets roll the ambush. Every one succeeds! Bring in the 8 centigors at back side behind his warmachine, 10 ambushers beside them, and the other unit of ambushers on other flank. Centigors bound spells goes off giving them reserve move, but forget to use it. Fire a bunch of ranged shots into the ballista cause its there, but only kill one crew, ruby ring doesn't go off. All shots from other flank miss gobbo. I aggro my Cockatrice into a position the night gobbo's cant charge due to facing. (no pic, forgot) I shuffle primal herd a bit back to get them out of charge range. Pig charged troll, did two wounds, both regen. Take no wounds back. His turn he moves up to get into charge range again with boars. Black orcs trudge again. Fires off 4 loonies, two from each unit, and turns to face the ambush. The two on Centigors kill 4 total between them, but fall off board. The two from archers jam through boar, killing it but hitting each other. Ballista's shoot cockatrice, one misses, 2 wounds. Doom diver lands on warhoof, does 2 wounds. Another fireball miscast. Turns wolves again to get into a better position.Board is now in this state for my turn 3.
>>97048513Golden Knight is a title.
>>97048596Forgot to mention, every thing is skirmish except the one unit I can't make skirmish (dumb primal herd). The stage is set, everything falls into place. Centigors roll frenzy like the drunken assholes they are screwing with my plans. It's ok, I'll make do. Gaze of the gods gives warhoof +1 leadership and str. Well, what can I see for charging. Doom diver is in range, declare there. Cockatrice declares on night gobbos. Realize that counter charge doesn't matter against infantry, so herd boys charge boars. Now the fun begins!Warhoof has Mangelder causing terror, breaks the doom diver who flee. Redirects to ballista, who break and flee. Cockatrice terror breaks the night gobbos who flee off board. Cockatrice redirects to ballista who break and flee. The panic causes the night gobbo archers and troll to panic, and they flee (we don't know for sure if this was right, cause it was within range of the doom diver panic so it panic chained into them). The herd champion steps up to the plate hurling a challenge, the boar boy champion meets him. The mother fucking boss of a beastman kills his ass. He his boars beat the fuck out of me, and chase me down. Meanwhile the archers had both moved into shooting positions, killed some dogs, killed some night gobbo archers. His turn (4a is beginning of his turn), troll doesn't rally, flees towards board edge. Archers don't rally, turn frighten the goblin boss and run off board. Gobbo boss panics, falls of board edge. His last lone wolf fails impetuous and charges the ungors, dies to hail of arrows. So all he does is turn his boars around and shuffle the black orcs towards my ungors.
>>97048688The mofo troll had run towards board edge close enough for my frenzied centigors to bait charge themselves, so they charge the troll who flees out of range, so another failed charge. Warhoof rolled 3, so irrelevant. Decide to fly my cockatrice into a place to either set up a back flank on black orcs or set up a side flank on boar boyz next turn. Jack ass around with ungors, mostly just getting into position for later stuff and stay out of charge range. Ruby ring does nothing. Forgot to use scourge of burdened (could they have moved anyway due to the failed charge? Also could they shoot after the failed charge? We did neither). His turn he moves boars up, can't march black orcs so just moves forward. Casts fireball, I dispel. Troll fails to rally, run towards board... into charge range of centigors again. Field as of end of his turn 5 seen here.
>>97047260My dwarfs, it's taken a long time and I'm not the biggest fan of the plastics in circulation but they will be completed.
>>97048731I prep the Cockatrice to flank charge the boars outside their front arc knowing my centigors are going to fuckwit charge the troll again, leaving them exposed to boars. March my ungors on right flank to take control of the herdstone, march other ungors to prep to shoot/charge if needed. His turn 6 he turns black orcs to look at ungors. Was outside of charge range on Centigors so moves outside of Centigors charge range and just casts fireball on cockatrice which saved the wound with armor. Centigors charge troll again who flees, failed charge. Decide against charging with cockatrice since its turn 6, so move behind the unit and stare at em, causing one wound. Ungors on left flank shoot, kill 2 boars. bringing the unit below half unit size. Ungors on right shoot at black orcs, kill 3. Final tally, I was up ~40 pts before adding 200 from herdstone. Given how fucking terrible I did with my shaman, a fabulous success.

They've retard proofed the new kits
>>97049207>they *made the kits even more monopose and uncostomizeable
>>97049265No newfriend, as you can see, the join can just be sliced and fitted into the slot and you can pose it how you like if you can do basic modelling. But for newer people like you, the hole is also there so you can't mess up!
>>97049265what causeth this?ofc, its not hard to mod away with a hobby knife, but still, why not have flat connection points so you can make poses a bit more customizable out of the box?
>>97049273I imagine the basic logic is that the sort of people who care to pose their guys unique ways not outlined in the instructions are the sort of guys who don’t mind filing down a guiding peg.
>>97049295I guess. But in wargame scale battles it is a bit weird looking when every 6th guy is in the same exact pose when all massed up, and I like to vary poses slightly like one guy holding his sword slightly higher than another. Though pic related might be a character idk.I dont usually use GW minis, but when I got some rohan I was befuddled with why each was made up of like 10 separate autisticly pose specific pieces each. Instead of like 5 with flat attachment sections so you can adjust the poses slightly as you will.

>>97047916Man, I enjoyed all the options and kitbashing opportunities. Can't wait for "game balance" to decree modeling is cancer and we have the same idiotic bullshit as AoS, 40K, HH, and MESBG where if they don't make the toy soldier it just doesn't have rules. On the plus side, this means the game is actually successful if they want to fuck us this badly.
>>97049719There was an opportunity to give players a lot of freedom by setting the game at an earlier point in the time-line. Chaos players could fight campaigns over who gets to be the next Everchosen, Empire players could fight a proper civil war and have their dude be the next emperor, Elf players of all varieties could... well, their time-line kind of doesn't really matter, but I'm sure there's something there, etc. Instead we got Frydaal, jack, and shit, so go figure.

>>97049855Tzeentch will save us.
>>97049855Sure, but that has nothing to do with my post. TOW is currently set in a time before an Everchosen appeared. There should be entire campaigns about that, but there aren't. GW is just going to speedrun us to the Great War Against Chaos instead of actually using the setting they decided to use. The End Times are stupid and should be ignored, but even if they had to happen that wouldn't matter since TOW is set hundreds of years before 2520.
>>97049855End times still doesn’t really play a factor in it for his hypothetical. Frankly I’m more interested in his more sandboxy set up than this boring ass fucking rehash. Also timelines are a fucking bane on wargames, just take me back to when Sigmar was up and running.
>>97049855Cathay has already broken the WHFB > AoS timeline, or how do you think they factor into AoS. The End Times can still happen (as there were multiple different plans for its conclusion as per a Rick Priestley interview I saw a while ago) but it doesn't have to go down the same path that leads to AoS.
>>97049923It does not and it'd be better if it didn't, but do you really expect GW to do something good?
>>97049934Imagine if they actually have the entire Throne of Chaos series finished and are planning to do that as the Great War Against Chaos without the End Times.... ending things. I'm pretty sure it was meant to be a campaign for each of The Great Kurgan's kids right?
>>97049273Could it be to ensure that the models rank up properly. If you glued the torso to a different angle then the weapon could prevent another model ranking up to his side.
Asking again, do you think the Mace's footnote restriction would prevent it from combo'ing with the spell for ludicrous flurries of mega-smacks, or is it written in a way that only applies to actual melee attacks
>>97045193>tqLike most users here, its on a spectrum. What it comes down to imo is whether these things define the faction or not. Dwarfs and elves have sillier fantasy stuff but their identity dosent revolve around them. Cathay has dragons, and literally everything about them is dragons.

>>97050062Cathay never intervened in the war against Asavar Kul. The great war against chaos is what sent the world into its death spiral with the End Times being the only possible outcome, but the forces of order are much stronger now and poised to repel it in a way that doesn't have to put a hard timer on everything. But like I said, the End Times was an event that the designers had envisioned for WHFB even way, way before AoS was a thing, albeit it was very different. The current timeline we are in does not need to lead to AoS if the setting designers don't want it to. WHFB > AoS can be its own time line and The Old World can be a different fork. This isn't quite like HH where they have to be more slavish with the lore as it's treated more like a 40k historical re-enactment. Cathay OTOH is a big monkey wrench, and there's still more to come with possibly Kislev and maybe other factions. We'll see.
>>97050076we dont know for sure yet, if cathay will still be present in the Old World when the great war against chaos errupts. I think its plausible Miao Ying may return to Cathay when she gets the news that the great bastion was broken through during her absence
>>97050076They won't retcon that the world ends, if anything they'll retcon how it ends.
>>97050076The forces of order are as strong as the narrative needs them to be, I don't see how cathay changes that really. If the storyline requires the old world to be barely standing after the war then that's what'll be written.I do agree that aos doesn't really give a fuck about how the end times happen, just that it happens with maybe a few specific points (e.g. slaanesh being the one to devour all the elves is pretty important for aos elves' lore). I can see tow and aos diverging into different timelines down the road too.

>>97052359Tzeentch? Don’t you mean the fell raptor?
>>97052359We haven't gotten much of any of the gods at this point
>>97052375He's talking about chian chin, clearly, tzeentch couldn't possibly be a thing, the 4 gods are too distant from the world in this age to have individual cults.
>>97052375Isn't his symbol the snake now?>>97052404True, but i feel like nurgle, khorne and slaanesh were fairly well represented in fantasy while tzeentch was underutilised. Cathay seemed like the perfect opportunity to let him shine.
New thread?

>>97051570>>97051565He hasn't said anything recently (months) about TOW other than whispers of Kislev.
>>97052450>the 4 gods are too distant from the world in this age to have individual cults. The four main marauder tribes have been a thing in the old lore too. Pretty sure its even in mordheim.
>>97052537Did they replace marks entirely too
>decide to build a Dwarf from my warriors box to take a break from painting 20 Terminators These old school Dwarfs have the perfect proportions for what a Dwarf should be.
>>97052548I dont remember exactly how it worked mechanically in mordheim. But it was still the whole "tribe of the hound/tribe of the serpent/tribe of the whatever" thing.
