The first one went... well enough, so let's try this again. Talk about weird monsters and don't feed the trolls.(Any accusations about Bog will be considered trolling unless the poster has actual proof.)
In the slim case that Bog visits again, I have a question:When it comes to designing monsters, what was the general ratio of points:endurance? Curious to know for my nogames ahh homebrew.
>>97061171Cool monster
Bogleech paid me to fuck his wife but insisted I strap plastic bugs to my limbs and screech like a Godzilla monster. They both smelled really bad and he tried to get validation from teenagers on his forum about it afterward. Unfortunately he deleted the thread, but I have the itchy warts as proof of the first part.
>>97061186not bog, but i know this one - when creating a monster as a player you can add endurance up to 10 + your respectability, with each point adding onto the data cost. the max amount of points in monster dev a base character can have is 8 at respectability 1, so at 8 points a wild monster is built with 11 endurance to play with (outside endure blocks or weaknesses). for each point you add or subtract from the total you also add an endurance point and it should end up in line w the book monsters balance wise.

terrible art, terrible game, dull designer
>>97063918Or in simple terms, they're just funky little guys
>>97062641Their class gimmick is that instead of the default weakness limit of "half base points", they can and must have weaknesses equal to their point total, effectively giving them twice the points but with a lot of drawbacks,
I’m surprised with all the little nods to lesser known Ultraman monsters there’s no gargantuan kaiju faction. You’d think a planet that’s just a sprawling city would inspire the artist to make some classic man-in-a-suit looking goofy creatures. Especially in a game about monsters. The destruction could work in the same way as an ecosystem after a flood or forest fire I see there’s a few big guys but I just thought it would be really cool

I really love Guilloteeth. Can someone post the art of Guilloteeth from the book? I want to see my beautiful baby boy.

Can someone post a short example of combat in play? The stat blocks look confusing and I don't want to fork over 40bux for a game none of my normie roll20 friends are going to wrap their heads around.
>>97067730I understand but at this point in time it’s honestly kind of pearl clutching. If anyone else from 4chan got banned for saying politicians should be hung, which they do all the time, they’d be called based. Which they are. All politicians deserve to be gassed. The negative reaction is just because of a handful of people that don’t like him, though bogleech does seem to pick a lot of fights. The fact that he’s come to post here and said he doesn’t want politics to infect his work honestly make him pretty respectable. Most others just avoid the question (or 4chan) because they don’t want to be harassed by closed minded people

Going to try and release monthly statblocks on patreon, and periodically compile them as free appendix pdf's, then we hope to do a 200-300 page all-bestiary book in the future.>>97067730I'd do it again>>97067910I'd like if we could release maybe a condensed rules document someday, but that would be up to the system's original devs who still own it and get to decide how I distribute it. They are still very reclusive and mysterious to me, it's still kind of a puzzling situation for me but they did deliver and I intend to uphold my end of all professional promises to them
>>97061171Well enough is a…very optimistic recollection and I’m very surprised there’s a second attempt, but I’m game if you are. Opinion on which devilbird is the strongest, and most worth investing modifications into for minmaxing’s sake? I’m almost certain it’s Gluttony. Mainly because they all drive people crazy but only Gluttony heals off it. Also how exactly does Lust’s respawn work? It sounds like it should be an instantkill on anyone infected but unless I’m misreading something, I don’t see it represented mechanically.
>>97069500Oh hey, you. Didn’t know you came around to these parts.>Do you have suggestionsNot him but I hope that the Ultimates and more advanced Devilbirds get added in at some point. If only as part of an Epic Beastiary-style supplement. Especially Mephiles as a punchline to raising all the dang things.Oh, and Dolfuries of course. Mainly because it would confirm my suspicion Mortasheen takes place in Awful Hospital, right at the edge of the Grey Zone where it interacts with the rest of the Perception Range.
>>97069564Excluding the advanced Devilbirds, I'd assume Lust is one of the strongest considering it is one of the fastest of the base Devilbirds. If I remember correctly.Speaking of Devipbirds, I'd like to see some of these designs an Anon brought up last thread to be reworked as either Devilbirds (The bird ones obviously) or Zomboids (Similar to Abnortis/Oovule, with an incomplete and perfect form)

>>97069898>Kind of funny how there's only one thing even resembling a monstergirl in the game and it's one of the more aggressively predatory NPCsWell to be fair Mortasheens does have a few "waifumons", such as Disembelle, revamped Belladona and Lascivenus, although the most palatable/normie friendly is probably Mothstrous, which is also in the book if I remember. And to be fair even if Mortasheen doesn't have regular waifus, you can probably just create them in your lab.
>>97061171I have some general questions regarding 'monster trainer' games. I only looked into a pokemon rpg book once and was a bit overwhelmed. How big is an optimal play group for these games? Since everyone plays something what would be a summoner in other games, I assume that such games might easily slow down. How large is a players party, spefically in mortasheen? How can I imagine actual play? The point system means just one Devilbird would eat up a lot of your team space and they're mostly support monsters, so the idea is you can get away with maybe one or two of them on the field to back up a handful of your other good monsters or a whole lot of little ones.
>>97071245As few as two players can work, three to four seems to be the most comfortable for a lot of playtesters but I know there's been bigger groups who still enjoyed it. Its action economy was designed to avoid that slowdown which was apparently the biggest complaint against tabletop monster-trainer attempts before Mortasheen started. We also have the concept of "teletethering" (temporary teleportation, like a spatial displacement that snaps back once it's shut off) so you don't have to bring all your monsters with you at once, but most players keep their main assistant monster with them by default and maybe another favorite or two
oh yeah here's the developmental sketches of the monster OP posted. I still like the lower right one a lot, it was a toss-up for the final art
>>97072394oh I guess upper right, thanks windows for the weird discrepancies in picture orientation I guess
bogleech, are there any monsters that are notably more or less popular than you expected?
>>97072274>We have an idea for an entirely new monster class where reworks of these would fit better, concept is a class that exist only as telepathic thought (like an infectious AI using networks of real brains as its server) but appears to hosts in an illusion form and can build a physical one possiblyOh, now that sounds cool, kind of like a Tulpa, a living thought that could potentially make itself a body. I image the illusion would appear "nicer"/more angelic to look at while any physical body they try and make would be like meat, metal and such stitched together into a more monstrous form in an attempt to make itself a body befitting what it wants to be.
>>97072502Yeah, since the "illusion" forms aren't limited by any physical logic my new designs for them so far have a lot of independently floating pieces and dream-weirdness, but when they manifest physically they might have to make those things from whatever they can grab and floaty bits get tethered together by ooze. Here are two doodles both based on much older defunct monsters, in fact all my sketches for what we're calling "Pstalkers" so far are new takes on older monsters that otherwise didn't make as much sense as biological species.
bonus Belladonna development, unfortunately I still don't have the hang of retaining the same "soul" from sketch to final version which
She pstalk on my morta 'till I sheen

>>97072667They look kinda rusty. Is that actual rust or something else? If I poured white vinegar on them to remove said rust would they become shiny Mortasheen (exactly the same stats but with a 1/69420 chance to replace regular ones in random encounters)?
>>97072640The fella on the left reminds me of Goza, I assume that's what it's reworked from. It's body looks like it's "unscrewed", so I could imagine if it made itself a body it'd look like Goza but it's limbs are attatched as if with screws. The one on the left kind of vaguely reminds me of Pooka from into the dark in terms of design. I've never actually watched it but I've seen the design and it stuck with me.
>>97067075>I have not read berserk. Is it actually about monsters like this or is it more generic Japanese slop? This is just a (neutral?) monster that appears in the background of a scene. Like some kinda corrupted wild life.In terms of fantasy, a lot of its aesthetics are european themed. It's not slop at all, and it's not solely focused on the monsters either (though Miura put a lot of work into drawing some pages).

There'll be plenty more to come because who doesn't like monstitties??? This was actually the second design, the first was made 15 or 16 years earlier as nameless filler art. >>97072958>limb sockets are actually "mixed up" and terminate with different appendagesCool touch and I was already meaning to steal that for my miniature conversions/sculpting, hehe
>>97073002this was a little joke on an extremely old adage that goes "butterflies are beautiful, but moths are monstrous," contrasting the butterfly mortasheen looking as off-putting as I could come up with at the time.People still thought moths were grosser even when I was a kid but now they're everywhere as a go-to cute animal, which is cool. The extra twist of course is that people of the Mortasheen world still consider the fluffy furry-esque Mothstrous to be the gross one.The butterfly (blighterfly) doesn't quite work by my current design rules for Arthropoids but I have some ideas for it that preserve some of the "ugliness" while looking more Arthropody and "scary."This was one attempt but some folks might miss the old design so maybe I'll still find a compromise.
>>97073123Lovely, reminds me of Garden of Eyes mob from Bloodborne, don't rightly recall of you covered that one
>>97072911The design on the left reminds me that I once saw porn with starros (a DC character) on someone's boobs (I think it was power girl). Starro is basically a psychic alien starfish with an eye.

Its almost afternoon and I just finished my cawfee, I had a dream about a thing that was probably influenced by this. Feel free to discard it as a play pretend LARP but it wasn't, dont have anywhere else but this website to post it I guess:It emerged from the head/skull of a plastic anatomical dummy in a pretty disturbing kaleidoscopic larva-emerges-from-larva-emerges-from-another-larva succession, although it wasn't a chain since the preceding larva were disintegrating/shrinking into nothing really so there ever only were 1.5 "on the screen" at a timeI instinctively tried to stomp it out of fear but popup text reminded me that its bite can inflict permanent coma/sleep, 333 years in insects and 1000 years in humans. There was some other info but it struck me as useless chaff/flood meant for confusionMy attention was then drawn to a number of vertical shelves where its elements were in demonstration: two were coloured like normal insect-type stuff, brown and light termite yellow, one was bright emerald with patterns and one had 3E Hive Fleet Behemoth esque schemeThey then voltron'd into an ouroboros of sorts trying to dig into each other thoraxes? I couldn't depict it properly but it was more like invading/inserting each other rather than eating/consumingThey/it insisted heavily on being a type of brain fluke which seemed bullshit to me and we argued for a bitAlso they had a giant collection of plastic LotR toys/miniatures like a whole table of siege of Minas Tirith with an absolutely towering sculpture/toy of Super Sentai Sauron Spirit-Bombing His Own Eye at which point I asked it what the fuck that was and it squeked out something to laugh it off, also pretending/insisting to be my dad?(after that my dream shifted away from the scene and I woke up)What disingenuous Illusion-type ahh fuck you

>>97098188of course i forgot the image.
>>97098188Oh it's even better than that. You CAN just rip a part off a monster and stick/swap it onto another (and it's cheaper to do that cause then you do already have that part on hand)... But the system's entire point is how MODULAR it is.Every single ability of every single part of every single monster can be modified, the blocks can be rearranged, added or subtracted to, and combined in all manners of ways to make funky flavorful abilities, and the kicker is, it would be expected of the dm to do so if they want to make homebrewed monsters... But it's allowed for and expected from the players to also do this as they improve their little guys or create new ones wholesale. It's fuckin amazing.
