How do you explain to someome that is new to TCGs what's happening now.
They're shit and ass and bad to boot buddy don't even start
>>97067676I dunno ask the general>>97067825fpbp
>>97067676What IS happening? I dropped all TCGs decades ago.
>>97069650Retards think they're an investment. The Day of the Rat shall commence again soon enough.
>>97069920What's bad is this is the same thing that hit the comic industry. People heard about the super high price on certain issues like Action Comics #1 or Amazing Fantasy #15, so they started buying anything that might be a future goldmine, variants, first appearances, event issues, and the publishers saw things flying off the shelf, and proceeded to cater to it, more big events, more new characters, variant covers everywhere, to the point you couldn't find them at the regular stores anymore, and you'd need to head to specialty shops. These get rich quick investors realized there was nothing shooting up to those levels, and stopped buying. The stores never wanted to return to carrying the normal floppies, comics were now relegated to comic book shops, and the industry never recovered, even with billion dollar movies theoretically bringing in more fans. The same is happening here, we have variants and serialized cards selling for crazy amounts, which gets the scalpers heading in and buying every bit of product they can at msrp to resell the big stuff. If you live anywhere with a bit of population, you can head into just about any store and the TCG displays will be out of Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon, and probably low on One Piece, Digimon, and Lorcana. Not sure how Riftbound is yet, since it's newer. The reason that's an issue is the goal is to get people in young, and it's easier to do that if they can get Mommy to get them some cards while they get groceries. All the scalpers are driving sales now, but soon they won't see the ROI, and they'll stop. The companies will massively overprint to keep up with the demand, which will drop. This year will be fine for MTG, the UB sets should keep driving that behaviour, because even if the set is bad, there are TMNT, Lotr, Marvel, and Star Trek collectors who are going to want those cards.
>>97067676bubble? you think this is the first time scalping cards has been popular? the profit margins are huge for cardboard, so even if their is a "crash" the card companies will be fine
>>97071866I hadn't thought about how 1:1 the situation in. Complete with subject matter component (stories for comics, gameplay for cards) taking a backseat to collectable status. Blergh.
>>97067676see>>97071866>What's bad is this is the same thing that hit the comic industry. My thought exactly
>>97071866Agree mostly except for TMNT, that’s going to be a bigger flop than Spiderman
>>97067676I wouldn't. If someone is dumb enough to pick TCG, it's entirely on them to suffer the consequences
>>97071866>variant coversthis is the stupidest shit everliterally who wants a special collector's edition of issue #47 of Captain Spandex Fights Wizards Part 3 of 5
>>97071866>Not sure how Riftbound is yet, since it's newer.MTG and POKE are choking right now on their own vomit, so scalpers turned their gaze towards another recognizable IP, and Riftbound was the winner winner chicken salad dinner. It's a brand new tcg and there's already 3-400 dollar decks.
>>97071866>stores will be out of Yugioh>low on One PieceWhat kind of bizzaro land do you live in?>>97076603I don’t think anything is wrong with Pokemon? Fake, manufactured ‘influencer’ Umbreon hype can only go so far.
>>97071866>Star TrekNo one will want that slop. It’s going to be Aetherdrift/10. Star Trek will be the biggest flop set of all time (nobody should buy Picard or Riker cards at all)!
>>97067676It's Pokemania but now instead of the kids being kids the kids are adults and still retarded as fuck.
>>97073180The Mutant Ninja Turtles is going to do fine. They already spoiled a bunch of broken cards everybody is going to need for their decks.
>>97077148What ones, lmao? The 4RR wheel of fortune? The 8 mana 5/5?
