Media is an aesthetic experience and if I don't like "the aesthetic" I typically don't spend my time on it, even if some element of it is similar to something I love. There are a whole host of reasons why superhero media is mostly really lame. I grew up reading the original comics (in fact, they were the first things I read), but removed from their context their subjects are greatly diminished. The optimism and sincerity that spawned them does not exist today. At this point they are played-out abominations that make billions as a salve for the powerlessness of modern people.
