I made some when I was 15ish, a full flocked board made out of foam with a river of blood through the middle. I wish I still had it, I sold it and all my models to a family friend when models stopped being "cool" to me in my late teens/early 20s.
I deeply regret it

I was busy wageslaving and driving home in a snowstorm, just saw the from last thread. The gryph charger chaplain was real. I sold it a while ago during an LGS yard sale dealy. It was one of the first 50 or so models I ever vet built and painted. I am unapologetic but I hate all my old models too.

Also the fluff on it was thus:

The gryph charger was ‘actually’ a Glass Strider. An animal native to /mydudes/ homeworld. They fill an ecological niche comparable to reindeer. Smaller ones are used by the humans of the planet as mounts and beasts of burden. Larger ones occasionally are used as mounts by space marines because I thought it looked cool.

One of two pics i have of this and its technically a little further along than this. Started this a ways back mid move and got up to the point where I was gonna varnish it but had my airbrush packed up and made the mistake of assuming my can of varnish always still good. Shit milked up so bad that it needs to be fully repainted at this point. If we get terrain as next months category I'll blast it black and start again.

I have two squads of White Scars intercessors
One complete squad of outriders and then 3 bikes that are missing pieces
Some parts on an upgrade spure (used most of the parts upgrading my guys)
A primaris Chaplain on Bike with some white scars bits on him
I also bought that one White Scar deathwatch guy for like 18 bucks (probably a mistake in hindsight) last year and then used many of his parts to upgrade my guys+make a deathwatch guy on a bike (also a white scar) for my weird squad of deathwatch misfits and my fukced up Inquisitor I painted when I was a kid collecting daemonhunters in 2007.

I have
Corvus White
White Scars white
Proacryl titanium ultra white
Apothecary White
As well as other colours necessary to paint scars.

I have GW desert crackle paint (TM) for cracked landscape. Some bits of cork possible to use as rocks or something in a desert.

I wish there was some kind of codex supplement for them too but oh well.

IIRC it's touched on in the 8e codex. Gensetealers can infect orks and reproduce through them, but it's not optimal. Orks can sense when one of their own is infected, so for the genestealers there is no hiding and quietly growing in numbers like they do in human societies.

I am reading the silent king, and there's a scene where the imperial navy kidnaps a middle class guy from a forested agricultural world to be a serf on an ultramarine ship who oils the hinges on doors. He has a wife and 3 children who he will never see again. He gets a cup of water per day and never sees the sun or the sky. He also doesn't get to sleep more than 4 hours at a time twice a day he has no idea what the food is made out of. Other serfs take all his waste and hair and other garbage to recycle it because the ship is a closed system. He calls it his hell in the void and his fellow serfs keep asking him what trees are and how they smell and he hates telling them because it means he has to remember what has happened to him. It's a fate worse than death.
People say ultramarines are the good guys but they are really not. How come these serfs haven't killed themselves?

I want to start Bangles, so I'm tweaking their colorscheme/heraldry.

I wanted to change the veteran heraldry as to keep golden helmets for Honor Guards and generally separate the ranks from the unit type so they interact more consistently.
I'm also playing with the idea of a black helmet for vets after seeing some cool HH Bangle terminators.

From top to bottom, left to right:
Tactical; Tactical Sgt; (Sternguard) Veteran; (Sternguard) Veteran Sgt
Death Company; Helix Adept (Fresh Apothecary); Apothecary; Sanguinary Priest

I'll flesh it out proper with names, markings, missing ranks (like Cpt / Lt) and helmets when I've settled with the base.
Excuse the cheap pixel shit and possibly jarring colors (I'm CB).

Thoughts welcome, thank you for reading my blog.

Idk, I just painted things that I thought were cool. I gave him bat wings cause they fit the nightlord aesthetic and chaos loves having eyes so I painted one on the jetpack (not necessarily the eye of horus)
I like to imagine he's going for a sort of "Bloody crow" motif hence the name, cape and the symbol on his chest. I like to imagine he specifically hunts and flays raven-guard to that end.

As for the green weapons, all my nightlords have green glowing corrupted-soul weapons cause I think it looks cool as fuck.

Well it's probably not grimdark because it's presented in a fun way.
That's what I was getting at, is the book written in a depressing way?
I guess the better thing would be if you could give us an extract. I know Black Library stuff these days has issues where the only thing stopping it being ugly is the poor writing where characters act like retards.
>>
>>97073940

>>
>>97074033
World eaters are slightly less anemic of a model range since they can bring more vanilla CSM options, and are more likely to see a second wave/substantial releases before EC see anything beyond a character/kill team
>>
>>97074033
What colour schemes would you use?
>>
>>97074047
Thanks anon.
I started with a basecoat of flesh tearers red. I did one layer, then once that dried, I went in with some abaddon black to draw the "Squigly veins" on the membrane. I gotta be honest, this part didnt turn out as good as I hoped. I really wish I knew how to paint really nice translucent veins on wings.
Anyway, I added a second layer of flesh teares after. The boney/spikey bits were just 2x black legion.
Once everything was dry I grabbed some sigvald burgundy and painted it towards the upper half of the wings. I went down about halfway, washed the brush and then feathered it out so it didnt have a harsh transition line but faded in nicely.
Then the red was highlighted very lightly with some drybrushing of evil sunz followed by wild rider red, and the black was highlighted with incubus green > sybarite green.

For World Eaters most likely the default scheme more or less. For Emperor's Children a deep purple scheme.

There are some decent Black Friday deals and I could get Angron, the WE Battleforce or the EC Battleforce and the Combat Patrols for cheap (not that cheap but cheap for the hobby)

>>97074061
So AI is depraved enough to like EC more? I think we did this.

Scouts can't carry a meltagun and a multimelta. Those tacticals just mogged a slaughterbound. Scouts can't do that. Since they are retarded in 10th and need to be taken in 10s I split one into an actual tactical squad and the other half into a basic screen that saved my vindicator against a forgefiend. I doubt they'd allow you to take both special weapons in a single 5 man tactical squad for just 70 points. The current rule is probably as good as it will get before they're removed from the game entirely.
>>
>>97075987
Well that's more of an issue with free wargear being completely retarded. But even for 80-90 points for a melta-multimelta or lasplas 5-6 man squad like in the classic days they would still be a decent unit. And with a proper points system you could have a basic bolter squad for 60-70 for a 5 man to 100 points for a 10 man squad that would still be good for screening and sitting on objectives. All the current issues with tacticals are self inflicted so you buy intercessors instead.

>>
>>97076023
Old marines only had 1 wound though, but then again AP didn't reduce armor it ignore it or didn't.
So a heavy bolter AP4 did nothing against a sv3+, but each wound of it has the same chance of killing a marine as a wound a from a lasgun.
>>
>>97076023
That's what they've historically costed and intercessors cost 80 per 5. I don't think 70 for 5 tacticals is outrageous considering how much boltguns suck so bolt rifles have a reason to exist and how they get 1 less attack per model for no reason. Also basic CSM squads cost 90 per 5 and get the exact same weapon options as tacticals AND the extra attack of primaris AND an actual special rule that isn't dividing the squad. Tacticals are just made shit on purpose.
>>
>>97076041

>Tacticals are generalists and so will never do specialist jobs as well as other options, now that those options exist.
They never did and they still wouldn't. They are never gonna compete with devastators or any of the primaris gun squads but that was never and will never be the point. They were and they still could be basic squads for objective capping that can change their loadout to suit a handful of different playstyles. Need to saturate the middle board? Take melta and chuck them into a rhino if the rest of your list is fast. Need backliners? Get a lascannon and have them cover a firelane while they sit on an objective and screen out deepstrikers. Need screens or cheap objective sitters inside a ruin? Give them basic boltguns. The same is true for the basic squads of more than half the armies. SoB squads, CSM squads, IG infantry squads (just with specials instead of heavies now), Eldar guardian squads, neophyte squads, boyz squads, skitarii squads, etc.
>You can't go back and whining that GW don't make tacticals great at everything is just sad after so many years.
The point isn't them not being great, the point is that they are currently made shit on purpose so you buy the same unit but boring in intercessors. Just give intercessors a special and a heavy per 5 and change their name. Easy.
>Get some eradicators and a 5 man unit of intercessors and try to have some fun.
No.

what are hard counters for dark eldar? indirect fire and a fuck tonne of attacks?
>>
>>97076070
Well the point of Fires of Cyraxus and IA in general was to port all the FW units into 40k. Some were made for 40k first and then ported to 30k, some made for 30k and ported to 40k but the point was to have rules for the FW units. If Fires had relased AdMech would at least had Legends rules now. But at some point GW will realize the splitting they did since the start of 10th is costing them a metric ton of money and they will revert it.

>>97076089
I feel like even if you had Legends
1) most people don't recognize the official GWs stance of "Legends are fully legal and you dont have to ask your opponent" thing, they still treat it like its 9th edition so you'd still have to do the whole jumping through hoops part at which point you might as well ask for a casual match with homebrewed units
2) Legends as it is now is a nursing home for models that are about to be fully squatted anyways

GSC. Despite all the anti-infantry stuff they have, they actually aren't that good at clearing mass chaff due to low volume of fire. They're also all T3 1W models so indirect and mortals from grenades or shock charges can wreck them hard. Overwatch is also your friend as you can burn up half of their melee trade units before they ever get to charge them.
They depend heavily on transports for mobility and survival but they all have 4+ saves and low T so even like plasma can tear them apart. If they stage behind walls just don't get in their threat range and watch for their Fights First threats, though they don't have as many anymore.
Also their anti-tank crumbles completely to smoke because all their best shooting hits on 4s and a -1 to hit will make them all bounce.

Most of the issues stem from people trying to make armies/list to be generalist and not made for a mission and enemy in particular. As you know in a wargame.
>>
>>97076239
Most people play pickup games and tournamentes where you don't know the mission or list you'll be playing as beforehand so that's normal. But still you can make a generalist list with specialist units. Just have a balance of each role.
>>
>>97076240
Yeah, people are not playing wargames and it shows.
>>
>>97076248
You can't cater exactly to the enemy list because you're both writing lists at the same time. You might cater to the archetype or do your own thing for the mission but you can only cater to a specific list if the opponent has written one blindly.
>>
>>97076248
That's been the case here for many, many years.
People come here as spectators for an ongoing story like they're waiting for the next marvel movie or passively paint the models and still gripe about nerfs to their faction that they have never even played on the tabletop in the current meta or cry about not getting any new models when they haven't even finished painting all the ones currently available for their armies.
"How did the community react when Sanguinius died?" will never not make me laugh.

>>
>>97076253
Out of sheer curiosity, since when are you playing wargames? Because this seems to be a mentality from someone that has only played modern 40k aka not a wargame.
>>
>>97076253
I agree, but to be slightly pedantic about it people do build their lists to counter specific meta threats or popular armies sometimes if a local meta is particularly degenerate. Like if you know a couple guys in your group play knights or something you plan to skew into extra AT.

Never mention a list. Reason why I suspected you started playing rather recently. Because list tailoring against a particular list has always been rather dumb.
You made armies to face expected armies that you discuss with your opponent before hand and in the case of pick up game, the local store/club had standard mission for that so you build for those. While also having models to face different kind of armies. The current issues of "solved" games or armies is modern problem.

>Nta but fuck your torso+legs in one peace bullshit and especially fuck your shitty HH 5 man sprues and shitty upgrades
Again that has nothing to do with fixing the proportions. Both DW veterans and Thousand Sons had the new scale already and had split torsos.
>>
With the benefit of hindsight I hated the old style marines with separate torsos and vastly prefer how they're done now. You can still kitbash all kinds of stuff easily, most of the complainers probably haven't looked at primaris since the original push fit monopose models were released.

Both? The new space marine scale is basically just a change in the legs. They are thicker and longer. The entire upper half of the model is the exact same size and proportions as the old ones. But that change in legs changes the overall proportions of the body aswell as making them taller. Primaris add a bit of abdomen length aswell, making them that extra bit taller.
>>
>>97076395
...you think anyone in this general hasn't seen a space marine kit in over ten years?
>>
>>97076395
>You can still kitbash all kinds of stuff easily
There's little point when each unit has their own exlusive wargear that no other unit can take. At most you can switch around some helmets and shoulder pads but even then the primaris kits have very samey bits. It's not like the old sternguard or vanguard vet kits full of unique and ornate bits you can spread around. Not like devastators getting unique helmets or bodies that can still be used for other squads on top of their guns.
>>
>>97076423
I think that is the reason why GW killed the Celestian squad for SoB even though the current kit has bits for it.
People might get ideas and start kitbashing!
>>
>>97076348

Changing the limbs and abdomen is already most of the body, it's not a little change. I'm not sure that the torso isn't slightly wider too, I don't mix arms already because of the length/mark difference so I actually don't know about that.

To be fair I prefer the new marines as extras/more variety, chucking a few "little" brothers in existing squads.
>>
>>97076436
Primaris are Space Marines 2: the Reboot, that was pushed along (or spearheaded) a wider scale creep, so technically true scaler also influenced CSM and HH marines getting taller, they just couldn't be as tall as primaris since the identity of primaris marines IS being the new better taller marines.
But we all know that.
>>
>>97076395
my main complaint with most primaris kits is the overall lack of variety when it comes to bits and weapons. like yeah, the sprue has 100 bits, but they are all 10x of the same scope, bolter, belt pouch, and everybody is wielding the same weapon.

some of the newer divergent chapter kits have remedied this somewhat, like the black templars crusaders and sword brethren, or the sternguard vets or some of these new character packs where its like 5 heroes of the chapter in 1 kit or something, but a lot of the bog standard stuff is still pretty dull

gravis is a fucking dead end though. phenomenally hard to repose or kitbash, and usually have garbage default poses, very limited bits and almost universally boring weapon options or mono-weapon loadouts.

fucking miss me with that gravis shit, i'll be dead before i ever include any of that dreck in my collection

Kroot are dirt cheap speed bumps to keep the enemy away from your shooters for a turn and sticky objectives. Both have their use, but are situationally.

I hadn't thought of it before but the watermark is really a perfect visual metaphor for the state of Warhammer. The 40k logo is positioned at the bottom of the composition. The AoS stormcast lightning bolts rest on top like a crown. 40k is carrying the Warhammer brand on its shoulders, but AoS reaps the benefits. Was this the intent of the graphic designer? Now that I've parsed it from the visual composition, the message reads too clearly for it to be mere coincidence.

Updated my colorscheme test for Bangles. Not too sure about black helmets for vets since it would interfere with assault squad markings, maybe I should keep black helmets for chaplain command squads/honour guards?
Added a nice Blood Gem, tried my hand with lenses and added the chapter icon.

I want to keep the Bangle icon consistent:
Black feathers are standard
Gold feathers for Sgts and Vets
White for DC (and possibly Sang guard)
And Red for Highest Command/Chapter Champion.

The idea is that when a marine earns his place he is gifted a proper relief Bangle icon, the Blood Gem and feathers surrounded by gold, otherwise the marine only has a decal. Losing it or having it damaged is sure to bring the marine's furious anger onto those who dared deface it.
(I'll use this in conjonction with mk5 armor plates for jump-packless assault marines or assault intercessors, to evoke that the marine(s) is(are) so pissed that they want to engage the enemy in close combat asap to quench their thirst... For vengeance.)

Thank you for reading my blog
