We both got off our Spirit Water Revivals, stack battles with carefully rationed counterspells, three steps copying starcage to deal with anchorage when I didn't have a demo field, and baiting him into using his fields when I had another anchorage in hand. A true wizard battle to see who blinks first. He conceded with three cards in deck when I was at two life. He took an extra turn with Kuruk as a final effort, but I had one last piece of removal backed up with enough counters to make sure it resolved through the mana he had up. Why are so many players always just playing the most low hanging boring deck strategies? I swear 90% of magic players don't want to actually engage in the game.
>>97081415Because R&D at wizards pushed in the late 00's and early 10's midrange hard and it attracted a bunch of wastes of oxygen that can only play flowchart magic and start going apeshit every time it's not the best deck in the format by a country mile. R&D being a company followed the money and here we are today, the absolute pinacle of flowchart magic.

In a way I'm thankful for Universes Beyond because I can just check out of the game for months at a time and if you squint real hard it kinda feels like you're back when Magic only dropped three sets a year.
How do the Ouroboroid decks always have turn 3 Ouroboroid without having to mulligan? It's like a 40% chance to even have the card in your hand by turn 3, and yet they seem to have it about 95% of the time.
>>97083074Mulligan
>>97083156>without having to mulligan
what does each rank roughly mean skill-wise?
>>97083641Nothing
>>97083074The shuffler prioritizes in BO1 some fixed rng by card (this is why you see 3x of a card in an opening hand way more often than what you should see statistically) what cards it prioritize you on is based on a not very well understood algorithm with ouroboroid weights being high due to it's status in formerly (pre Vivi bans) t2 status. Once WoTC updates these weights, probably at the rank reset, you'll probably see a lot less BO1 ouroboroid decks as they'll likely become far less consistent as likely the cub will get hit also. This is also why other than simic agro which is a strong deck even without ourouboroid the various ouroboroid strategies do much worse in BO3 than BO1 as the algo is only is active on BO1.

Why is nobody running singularity/riverchurn control anymore? It seems like every control deck was running it just a few weeks ago and I haven’t seen it since avatar dropped
>>97084543The dimir/esper version of the deck doesn't work as well against badgermole decks so all the players shifted to 4c or straight jeskai which has better ouroboroid matchups. As an aside I think the 4c/jeskai deck needs to run more quick boardwipes than it currently does as the matchup is still very soft,
>>97074153wait...its not a leviathan?
>>97084543Maybe people finally understood that it's mind-numbingly boring (one can dream)
>>97084537Eh. That's just the effect of Magic being so fucking fast that >Don't remove a threat played on curveBy next turn you won't be able to, because it'll be a 12/12 hexproof>Don't play a threat on curveSince most game-ending threats are 1 or 2 drops that scale to infinity by turn 3, not playing it on curve means losing the game if your opponent plays control and gets one more mana to play whatever removal they got.The problem is that they optimized magic in both direction: aggro that wins on turn 3, and control that don't even bother having a win condition like actively milling you, just let you draw yourself to death. There is no space for anything else, because anything slower than T3 dies to both.
>>97084909I mean here's the thing though, what you just described has been a thing since SOM-INN standard, the only difference was more decks could pull it off back then as the clocks would go longer, but often games were effectively decided by turn 4 even if you were still at 8 and just resolved a supreme verdict, you could kind of tell based on a few factors who was going to win right from that interaction and the rest of the match is just flowchart. It's also where the rise of midrange really started (assuming we count tempo as a form of midrange).

Not a single one was out nomadingBut its a retarded kids show i knowIts just lazily written
>>97086306They do give a bit of an explanation in some other things. First, ALL air nation people are air benders. Because fuck you naturally more spiritual. So straight off the back most of them were at the temples praying and shit. It was a massive surprise and weel cordinated attack. The air nomads really were retarded enough to not really expect it. Given the OPness of the commit most air nomads got turbo fucked instantly. But the real part is the survivors. Yes their were factually survivors. But apparently the fire nation managed to trick alot of them by placing air nomad artificats in like traped locations and getting them that way? Also air nomads were by far the least populous and fragile of the "nations" They also were segregated by race so even if some managed to survive in hiding actually finding a 2cute4u bald air nomad woman to bang and save the air nomad race wasnt likely.I have more issue with the length of the war. The fire nation had steam powered weapons of war, total naval domination and couldnt finish the war? They curbed the southern water tribe into extinction but being unable to beat a bunch of eskimos at the north over a century is kinda sad. Especially since youde figure they should be the primary target given the avatar thing. I mean if they ASSUMED they got the avatar air, then logically the next one would had been water so getting the water tribes should had been top priority. Man I rambled.
I NEED A BLITZMODE SO I DON'T HAVE TO PLAY WITH TROGLODITES THAT RUN THE CLOCK EVERY TURN
>>97085591airbending mastery is used in some niche standard decks at the moment, they're alright if you want to play uw flier or the aang combo.
>>97086416I feel like last time I watched the show like a decade ago I remember there being something about that a lot of the military technology the fire nation had was only developed in the last ten to twenty years so it sort of atleast makes sense that they were in a quagmire until they eventually no pun intended started picking up steam.
>>97086450You are correct the airships and tanks are new tech cause of the one mechanist guy. But the ships are old tech. Honestly its kinda nuts they went from capturing that shitty blimp near the start of the show to making a crazy armada of zepplins in less than a year. The fire nation has some crazy industrial capacity. Fire works also exist but no one invented guns.

>>97086889are you going to touch your clitty sis?
>>97086416But they didn't even have balloons a 100 years later and the only way to reach air nomad temples is by flying( except the northern one for some reason)
>>97086916Well the western one could also, kinda be reached without flying. Though as I recall, it surrendered without a fight? I know one tribe did. And while under a cliff of sorts, I could imagine a dedicated arrmy could figure it out. A quick google shows the eastern one could also kinda be reached. But more interestingly reading it SEEMS the way the eastenr temple was destroyed was they used their giga fire to just torch the whole fucking place. I assume being surronded as the place is lit up would kill most everyone quick enough. Its still dumb for a million reasons but I can kinda get it a bit. Most temples had populations in the low thousands AT MOST. Assuming most were bad at bending, like most people seem to be, and they are a bunch of bitchy monksm and the fire soliders are super human, I could see them losing. If fire benders are turbo charged by comits and the sun being out steals the power. And similar for waterbenders and the moon. What affects air bending and earthbending power?
Just played an hour long brawl match with a faggot ass eslpeth token doubler deck, took us till we were down to single digit cards, with me over 200 life and them making just enough tokens to chump block everything i throw at them. the game was decided half an hour ago but this person just wasted our time hoping that I'd somehow sperg out and concede or fuck up and give them the win.
Beside edgy /pol/ talk, in general there's various plot points that make sense but where the execution is weird. Like the fall of Ba Sing Se: there's a coup in a police state? Sure, why not. It's a teenage girl that arrived 2 days ago that gets the power? Yeah no, fuck off.Ironically, the fact that it's for children sometimes makes things more jarring that if it wasn't. Like the amount of child soldiering is pretty ridiculous.

My first 7 win run for Avatar draft. Probably got a bit lucky with my draws. I was drafting just UG until I saw the Iroh in pack 2 and decided it was worth it to try and splash. Started taking lands more aggressively and trying to get any removal/card draw lessons. All the games were great, the final record was 7-1.
>>97090879Holy fuck this rock paper scissor meta is making me fucking lose my shit. Holy fuck I have never hated a standard so much and it's actually infuriating to keep playing.

>>97087127The reason she took over is because the town's resident glowniggers respected her absolute commitment to her homicidal tendencies. They thought if they followed her they could get a taste of fire nation power. Don't forget she was next in line for the throne of the dominant power at the time, they probably thought if they got in good early they'd reap the benefits later. They forgot she was a woman though so she just tosses them aside for no reason as soon as she became ruler.
>>97091665the forced mulling is hilarious. because they have openly stated that the opening hand draws are rigged in your favor, so when you're soft forced to mull repeatedly for multiple games in a row you're being asked to believe that you got INSANELY unlucky - so unlucky that their literal rigged-in-your-favor draws bricked SEVERAL times in a row, instead of it just being an algorithm trying to fuck you over the game is just so obviously rigged sometimes but for me the sequence of forced mulligans is one of the most obvious giveaways
>>97092067I've been told that the forced bad starting hands is only a thing in BO1 and this all occured in BO3 but that's just what I've heard, pretty sure it's false after losing basically every standard metagame challenge before round 4 on like 12 different decks and being someone that regularly hits top 200 of mythic.
