I was looking through the treasure trove archives and literally every time someone requests a gamebook, it gets ignored. What happened? What created this huge downfall? They didn't use to be this niche. Is it cause of video games? Gamebooks are comfier.
Also, if anyone here still bothers playing Gamebooks, please say so. I feel like the only /tg/ anon that plays them.
>>97075468I do. The Shamutanti Hills are my favourite but I also had a soft spot for Elevator to Nowhere in Give Yourself Goosebumps and the more experimental FF titles in general. Lone Wolf was okay but didn't capture me hard. Liked Grailquest. Lost my copy of Magehunter which is like $1000 now u_u

>>97076339It's a nice font licensed under OFL mate.I use it all the time too personally.
>>97075464/tg/ is for communal games
>>97077112No. It's for traditional games. Which gamebooks are.
>>97076339I find the I too much like an abortive attempt at the T, it should have a little swash at the bottom too. The J is dead boring. It could at least have an swash at the top like the I does to show they are related letters. It looks like it comes from a different typeface and the designer forgot to do anything to make it fit in, the versions of J in the swash set and in the normal serif set look almost identical. I hate the Y, who of sound mind wouldn't, and the huge gap in the Q. The H is nice for obvious reasons and the X almost makes me want to search a thesaurus just to find alternate words so I could use X more often.Good to see that whoever did the cover showed restraint and used the swash characters only at the start of a few words.
>>97075464You try asking the solo game general?
>>97076698Ik ik, it's just.. Familiarity breeds contempt, igIt's not like it's a logo or anything so I'm just being a pedantic fuckface
What, like the Steve Jackson games?
>>97075464I beat the twenty lone wolf books and then got burnt out. You have to make a new character for book twenty-one so it seemed like a logical stopping point.
>>97080062And you never played anything since?
>>97075464I can just play visual novels or Dispatch.
>>97081064Dispatch is alright, but it's no gamebook. You can't even lose.
>>97075464I both like playing these as well as using them for material in other games.
There should be more digital gamebooks like the Ink stuff
I have never touched a gamebook ever since I got my hands on this bad boy
>>97083043With gamebooks you can just read them in bed with a simple dice and pen.
>>97082285The what?
>what happened?I think they suffered from the one-two punch of their dip in popularity from their peak coinciding with the rise of good - or at least capable - home vidya. So if you wanted to get your solo fantasy fix it was all there, just had to wait for it to finish loading.Lone Wolf will always get a mention, but Blood Sword was a series I regret not finishing; I liked the Dragon Warriors system anyway and it was fun to see a "party" system tried for once. But then the books seemed to get hard to find and, well, I got into other things (including an actual regular group with some schoolfriends).
A few years ago, I got a quick subscription to Kindle Unlimited and just read a shitload of recent shoddy gamebooks. It's kinda fun when you can just skip to the next as soon as you die.
>>97075464Bro, the curated gamebooks are a fucking graveyard nowadaysLook on the right
>>97090128Yeah, that's grim.A kind anon shared quite a lot of cool stuff a while back earlier this year, I'll see if I can find that link after doing some archivefu. It's the most current collection there is. Everything else has expired or no one ever bothered uploading it to begin with.
Found it: https://m3g@.nz/folder/Um1UVYoa#4Vx62caaJ2Fzf32PCZgSwwIt's all still there.
>>97090160Man that's pretty cash
>>97090267What's the difference between solo RPGs and gamebooks anyways?
>>97092444I think Solo RPGs are more freeform stuff where you're supposed to play as your own GM a bit as well but with dice rolls for making decisions. I could be wrong, though.
Also, I went to beg to the PDF Share for these games. It's kind of crazy to me that there now exists the first ever fully completed open world gamebook series, which was done by the two guys that created Fabled Lands, no less, and the only mentions I find of it on the /tg/ archive is people like me begging for it. Gamebooks don't deserve to die out. They're fun.
>>97092624Is it any good?
>>97092624There's a certain place run by a certain Anna that has a couple of these in e-book format
>>97092711>>97092902Don't know, but I heard good thingsThe share thread delivered, by the way!!!>>97092731It's a joyous day!
>>97090267Thank you!But now it requires a password...
I heard of one recently. You buy wins with points. It’s called Immortal Reckoning and it’s by… you.
>>97094032Huh? You just replace the 3 with an e and the @ with an a. You don't need any passwords.>>97094285I just looked up random game books on Amazon and liked the cover of that one. I should have had VulcanVerse on the OP but I didn't think of it.
>>97092711
>>97095370Grim
I don't see the issue
