Help me a little, /tg/. I can't decide between these 3 options with 2 sub options.
1) Neutral, the technology wasn't anymore advanced or primitive than it was in the 80s Alien world. The Company were still being cheapskates but not that cheap and not that incompetent.(A. also remove the Ash & Mother plot since it wasn't even in the original script and it removes several layers of incompetence) (Or we can also go with B)

2) Post-apocalyptic retro-futuristic world. The world had went through a lost technology phase Mad Max style where even the elite didn't have superior technology over others. The most superior technology was making robots look like people instead of Seegson Synthetics that admitted they can't make superior androids.(This helps with making Weyland & Ash's obsession with the Alien more reasonable and intelligent and also explains why they didn't send any better men better equipped, cause they didn't have one and Ash and Mother were ironically their best men for the job) (Or we can also go with B)

3) (Read below)
>>
3) McDonalds communistc company where it's just Weyland that's pathetically cheap and incompetent where they'd risk losing the stranger changer alien instead admitting they're incompetent idiots and hiring a better team to go fetch it. All other companies and governments are a million times more advanced and have their own alien technology and alien specimens which Weyland isn't even aware of.
( A) Definitely remove the Ash & Mother plot in this version since it makes absolutely no sense to literally sabotage your own mission, have one of the crewmembers blow up your entire mining refinery and only suspend her captain's license after you yelled so out loud about cost saving by not even giving your crew members proper meat but instead you feed them on cereal, grain and milk and dogshit cantina highschool food that makes me barf)
And B) The Alien has control over anything synthetic, silicon, robotic, digital, artificial intelligence which ties in greatly with my greater backstory for the Alien.

Russian McDonalds or SSSR, just as incompetent and give no shits about safety and regulations cause they're stupid. Their latest robot flunk was hilarious. Weyland-Yutani could be like Intel trying to make GPUs and utterly failing because Weyland Yutani were predominantly an ore mining company with numerous retarded investors who work behind each other's backs and have no idea what the left hand does from the right hand. The terra formation again could have been an ore company merging with a space travel agency that went full WE WUZ Terraformers n shiiaattt. Like Intel with GPUs. Or like AMD with their lack of GPU drivers.
Unless Ridley & Cameron forgot to include a "I specifically sent people there to get infected... that was my evil masterplan all along. yep... totally... that's why I totally built a huge atmospheric processor and invested trillions ... for people to get infected ... which I could have done much cheaper and more efficient."
>>
The extremes are interesting, but if you don't want people to ask about the human world and instead focus on the aliens then go with the neutral option.

What happened to the Alien RPG threads?

1) but not A or B.
W-Y did what they did for a number of reasons. Principally because "accidentally" getting the alien lifeform back to a lab allowed them to avoid very intrusive laws which the undermanned but highly effective Feds-equivalent can apply to dedicated research vessels. The plan didn't work as hoped, of course. The ideal was for the whole crew to die in a "routine hyper sleep accident" and for Ash to call for assistance nearer Earth. A pre-chosen rescue ship could then secure the alien without arousing suspicion and the ship could either be sterilised or scuttled to conceal the evidence.
The events of Aliens and Alien^3 can be explained by executives meddling with each others plans inadvertently as the tightly controlled knowledge disrupts cohesion.

Actually, the post-apocalyptic thing is canon in the Dark Horse comics. Aliens takes place after humanity defeated Skynet and rebuilt civilization. Presumably there are a lot of regulations on computer technology to prevent it from happening again, which is probably why, as advanced as androids like Ash are, they have a lot of hard restrictions in their programming.

Interesting choices.

Did they 100% state it or it was another hint and assumption thing like most of this franchise does? A lot of people keep assuming Blade Runner and Alien are connected simply because they share the same director, when Blade Runner's technology is a million times more advanced than anything in all 4 movies. Even Riddick's technology is far too advanced.

Evolved came out and all the small changes made the game slightly worse.
>>
C'mon /tg/ give me advice. Ridley drives me insane with his bullcrap, this is why I want to remove his bullshit or spin it in the Alien's favor.

None of the above. From what we've seen of Alien and how space travel is reliant on cryo-sleep, interplanetary logistics must be a nightmare. Any shipments are going to take months to arrive, and by the time it does things may have changed.

A lot of technology, especially on the frontiers of space, is therefore going to be things that are salvaged or in states of mixed repair. And likewise, even if WY does have better agents available somewhere, that doesn't matter unless the agents are actually able to get to where the corporation needs them at a particular time. If the best man for the job is years away, they might just miss out on the opportunity entirely.

WY may have been being cheap on top of that, but they also may not have had many alternatives.

OP is too long (THREE fucking posts). I don't care to read it. All I can say is that I accept that the world of Alien exists in an alternate universe from our own where technology and culture developed independently from the real world ones.

Apparently people at the time of Resurrection don't know about Skynet and the Terminators because the military dictatorship that's in charge now has been censoring all kinds of shit. Not sure about before. Also, they briefly mention stuff from Blade Runner in some of the tie in material for Prometheus.

Commie Hyperdyne from the UPP has the best business model: instead of shipping manufactured weapons that would likely take months to reach their customers, Hyperdyne sends fabrication blueprints and ballistics software over FTL hyperstate to allow the receiver to "print" the relevant weapon using local maintenance-part fabricators. Gun Rights are Worker's Rights.

Go with the 2nd one even if it makes the entire world incompetent it at least doesn't make Weyland look as incompetent as before.

You're not /tg/, what are you doing here?

I also always understood it this way

If cryosleep travel is a big part of the economy then progress must develop incredibly slow for it to make sense. Maybe people on Earth either also cryosleep years at a time, or maybe everything is so stable you could go away for decades and come back without any evident change in economical power balance.
