wow you made a new thread before anyone posted their skeleton commanders
>TQGnomes are cute, but people don't seem to enjoy getting punched in the knees to death by them.Even though I've played Pia Nalaar a lot, and against the same people a lot, they always seem to be taken a back by how strong and how fast she can actually be.Surely, not shocking insights to share, but that's the most common experience with them.
>>97079586I don't know how to build decks that aren't combo imo
Good commanders for a Madness Tribal deck? I picked up this thing and it seems really funny to build around.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>97079644I wish everyone played pauper commander
>>97079586>Post one or two of your favorite decks and tell the thread a bit about your experience with them.Cecily/Elmar. Just a bunch of creatures/effects to get me to 11 cards ASAP then I windmill slam dunk huge dumbass timmy burn spells like Explosive Singularity, Searing Wind/Searing Flesh, or Sorin's Vengeance onto the table. It's mad fun playing all my bulk burn unplayable stuff from the last 20+ years
Bought all the cards for a new deck because my store was doing a Black Friday thing on singles. Never even playtested it. Am I cooked?
give me 5 reasons not to make an all-proxy deck
>>97079631>wrong colorsShit sucks and I've hated it for years. This is the only commander that cares about madness, there's way too many to look through that cares about only discarding stuff
>>97079655I made an all proxy Omori deck and just felt kind of ashamed afterwards. I printed a few all proxy decks that other people have made. Pokemon, Pokemon, legend of Zelda, dark souls, dead space, and death note. And a RuneScape one but that wasn't a full precon so I had to fill it out with whatever esper cards I had lying around in my collection. The dark souls one is my favorite.
>>97079655That's a behavior of a troon, to have a fake deck to go along with your fake vagina.
When I was new to the game I made a Nekusar deck since I am a big fan of skeletons wearing crowns, only to find out later how hated he is by most casual players. My deck had very few wheels and was just focused on drawing everyone cards, one of my friends often commented when I played it: 'That's not very Grixis of you'That's my skeleton commander story, thanks for reading
>>97079698hard to argue with that logic
>>97079613Are you playing against people with no interaction and/or don't bother to read?Anim is KOS in the 99 if my token deck, I'm lucky if she sticks around more than one turn
>>97079710I have a Nekusar deck with zero wheels and limited extra draw and everyone loves it. People love how it's essentially 1-3 extra Phyrexian Arenas while they play. Sucks your friends have bad taste
>>97079726I've got several ways to protect her, and people don't always JUST have it.I'm the arch enemy on turn 0 with her though yes.
>>97079586>TQI feel like a god every time I try to control the board with my artifacts and lose the next turn
>>97079749Can't wait until they combine these two, then we'll have the ultimate durdling deck
>>97079655the main reason is that you have to make a new proxy every time you change a card.I still own a few proxy decks I "designed" with MSE>norin meme deck where I replaced every pic to depict cavemen>rocco meme deck where every card has a cook/food in it>captain nigga with all art replaced with various surreal/horror artworks>zurgo helmsmasher doom meme set using a a wide mix of doom-related art (ingame screenshots from overworld maps for lands, official photos of the doom enemy sculptures for creatures etc)problem is, I never upgrade them because of them being all proxy, so now they just sit around and never getting played.
>>97079788Just rule 0 partner them. If your table doesn't let you they're a bunch of faggots.

I'll try to keep it short. >player A is about to win with simic ascendancy >player B has 5 or so creatures with flying>player C has an entire board with lethal on everyone on attack and reach (got fogged)>me (has twinning staff and 10 untapped mana)>I wormtongue player B into attacking players C and A with flyers >I intentionally tell player B that if either player blocks, I can kill them, but I quickly tell player A and C that im just kidding>player A and C do not block. >I flash in and see double furnace of rath, kills players A and C.>player C asks what the fuck, you said I would die if I blocked. I told him I was kidding, remember? >player C get super pissy and says he changes his mind, he's changing his blocks >have to call a judge >he ends up scooping and running off, salty as all hellapparently player A and C felt it was very bad manners to tell them I would kill them if they blocked (indirectly, to player B) and lied about it

>>97080273No.
>>97080273several times, and posters here get supremely butthurt when most of the time, the remaining players lets them keep the triggers.

>>97080280>the remaining players lets them keep the triggers. As it should be
I don't think that fire bending is as good as it initially seems, the mana only lasts until end of combat. So your deck needs a lot of activated abilities or instant spells yeah? If you build your deck around it that's pretty good but it's not like you can cast creatures with this mana really
>>97080294Earthbending is the only good one
>>97080214Withering I can set up easily enough on my own turn, but it's more like a 1cmc sorcery speed kill spell for me.>>97080222>>97080258Are edicts actually good though? I feel like they'd just be sacrificing a dork or a saproling when I really need to kill their vivi or something.

>>97080299>>97080294Earthbending is probably the best.Waterbending is good on paper but there are barely any cards for it that will work together Airbending is nicheFirebending is only good for instants so yeah and relies on your creatures attacking so unless you're going to win the game instantly on the attack you're probably losing all your creatures
>>97080343

>>97080372Good luck anon, hopefully you can beat some 3s.
>>97080321
>>97080300>Are edicts actually good though? They are situational, yes, but they often hit more than one player and if they play a big piece early they can only sac it.Their biggest upside is, like stated, if it has indestructible, shroud, hexproof, or protection, being forced to sac it gets by all of those effects.
>>97080321Holy fucking amateur hour, anon. Fix your shit
>>97080300depends. there are edicts that force your opponents to sac their most expensive/powerful creature. there are edicts for non-token creatures. an early edict removing 3 dorks/support creatures is never bad. playing 2 edicts in a row is also never bad.also, try to find board wipes that don't affect your board, or give you value in return. cheap single target removal is good, but it doesn't go around protection.
>>97080207If you want cheap hereâs some options>>pwkJust cut that it misses to many common creature types heartless act is a good slot in>>terrorGo for the throat and or doom blade>>tragic slipI prefer Stab or Disfigure itâs always -2/-2 is and 1 mana>>dark witheringSame as terror>>Heroâs downfallThat card sucks if you really need to kill a creature or walker use Feed the Cycle instead it costs 1B and forage/ B so you either cast it for the same as downfall or you can sac a food/ exile 3 from your graveyard. Much more flexible for same effect>>honorable mentionsMalicious affliction kills 2 creatures if a creature diedTithing blade is an edict that can turn into a drain effect laterMy favorite atm is Nowhere to Run. It has enchantment synergy gives -3,-3 and ignores hexproof and ward so most things either outright die or get crippled
>>97080294So I guess, thread topic then, what are good mana sinks for firebending? I'll start with an easy one
>>97079586>TQI know people despise Slivers, but I love these guys.>commander night at LGS>playing First Sliver>two guys are ambivalent about Slivers>one guy straight up says he'll focus me and nothing else until I'm dead>ok>massively luck out with Gemstone Caverns >double luck out next turn with a Chrome Mox>get First Sliver on the board on turn 3>start cascading like a fucking madman on turn 4>deck has a bunch of suspend stuff to turbocharge my lead>get profane tutor>get Legion >board is now absolutely monstrous with 8 Slivers, including Legion>hit the salty guy like a brick through a glass house>he starts screaming at the other two to help him>they've barely just begun doing stuff>salty guy gets sledgehammered>dead>gets all pissy and leaves the store instead of waiting until the next round
>>97080400Not like WOTC fixes their own shit
>>97080413People "hate slivers" because they're "super popular" yet I've seen 2 in the past 2 years. And one was a precon
>>97080411Literally any of the X spells in red. There's like 100 of them
>>97079655Anime referencesMovie referencesTV referencesVideo game referencesPotentially a quick turnaround for cash once you reach retirement age
>>97080400Kinda weird that 'n' is drooping when they're all on the same text line, but hey, thanks for catching that.
>>97080416Didn't they have like 6 of these basic ass errors in one set recently??
>>97080422I think it's one of those "not very common but has a reputation" sort of things, similar to Eldrazi. The problem with both is that their precons are pretty mediocre and require heavy investments (e.g. the Titans for Eldrazi, First, Overlord, Legion, etc for Slivers), but once you do upgrade the deck, they can be pretty ugly.
>>97080456Yeah the n is what I noticed first, then I tried lining the whole text up and that's what I found
>>97080440Those don't count because you can just declare any number for x and then not pay mana for it
>>97080458They do it frequently.
>>97079998Fake tokens are fine, fake tokens that exist to publicly display your fetishes are not.

>>97080157>>97080207This one's sadly crept up a bit over the years. Used to be like three bucks. That being said, it's a fantastic gotcha in any black deck where you don't have blue. Literally nobody ever sees it coming and will always assume you have a kill-spell instead of stack interaction.
>>97080413Sounds like you were generally just mismatched in powerlevel unless the others were also playing fast mana and just not drawing it
>>97080598I don't play with cards after Tarkir Block, so I don't recommend them either.
>TQI like the sea monster archetype, with shit like Kiora/Kenessos so I switch between them. Kenessos I think I have more fun with, its just a little more janky than cascade and having to topdeck manipulate. Its nice to see more creature support for it, I would just like a new commander that adds merfolk to the list.
>>97080466Slivers are more hated because they can very easily dominate in low/mid level pods and stores where people's interaction is lacking. They're hilariously snowbally and alot of their effects are very cheap for what they do, like Galerider being a 1 mana Levitation. Most players at these levels don't have the deck-building knowledge or just general game skill to identify and remove critical pieces at critical times. Sometimes, even if they do, the amount of value Slivers can generate quickly means your removal doesn't feel impactful outside of a straight boardwipe, and even then it can be too late.Slivers, funny enough, absolutely fold to cheap, recursive interaction or damage. Like shit that can ping creatures for 1 or 2 consistently. But those types of cards are so niche in their usefulness and color accessibility that alot of people understandably don't run them.Tutoring an Umezawa's Jitte against Sliver players in my equips deck absolutely hoses them every single fucking time. It's really funny.
>>97079586>Post one or two of your favorite decks and tell the thread a bit about your experience with them. With Vislor TurloughDraw and hand size punishment deck. Bit of group hug, bit of group slug, bit of control, bit of pillow fort. Kind of like a less assholish Nekusar. Heavily control based to handle all the cards I am going to get my opponents to draw. Generally wins through more sudden wins like windfalling 20 card hands with multiple draw punishers out, or dropping an iron maiden when everyone has giant hands. Or some combo with peer into the abyss such as psychic corrosion.I once "milled" the table out with Forced Fruition
>>97080400What a loser

>>97083260Mechanically unique cards for sure, but it mostly depends on what Capcom's specific complaints were. Sucks that they didn't just put it out as it was since it would have bombed hard. >>97083619The biggest lesson I've learned is that you need to be very flexible with the cards you select. For instance pic related is a fantastic card. It can get rid of any problem on the battlefield and gives up the concession of two cards. But it can also read "shuffle nonland permanent you control into your deck and draw 2 cards". So it's a draw spell when you need it and a removal spell when you need it. Sure Generous gift can blow up troublesome lands, but you can have lands such as demolition field and strip mine to actually get rid of those. Generous gift can't draw you two cards when you are stuck or when someone removes your nonland permanent and you want to get a little bit of value from it.In fact, yesterday I did this when playing my Frodo. Someone tried removing him with Chupacabra, and I Path to Exiled him instead to get a land. Usually, don't do this, but I did it because I had card draw and needed to get ahead in ramp. Worked out well in the end.Brought back is probably the best ramp spell in the game if you are running lands like Scorched Ruins and Lotus Field but it can also save your best pieces late game. Also, Darien is pretty fun, good choice.

It is a valuepile, with a density of cantrip and removal creatures, but it's comfy as hell to play.>B/W AbdelBigger focus on enchantments to the point of being pseudo enchantress, reanimator subtheme(graveyard), and Hoarding Broodlord lines. Feels totally different from the mono W deck.>Boros AbdelMUCH faster than the others, artifact focus with Weapons Manufacturing. Combo density, and can win out of nowhere piss easy without comboing. The speed and aggression of the deck make it feel significantly different than the others.>AminatouEsper control. Much slower and more oppressive than the others. Just feels like an esper control deck with more creatures. Very grindy obviously. Distinct from the others.>Hinata SpellsArcheomancer.dec. This one is more of a tempo deck. Heavy focus on flash and flash enablers like Scout's Warning. Venser is one of the best creatures in the deck for example. Heavy focus on spellslinger. Wins with various combos like dualcaster, also Mana Echoes since almost every creature in the deck is a human, you can win off X spells or infinite bounce. Even run Labman to draw off of Sicarian Infiltrator. I get your point, but I've made an effort to distinguish them because there are forms of flicker I'd like to explore. The decks really do feel different to pilot and to play against.

And realistically I only have 5-6 cards that scry.I can add more ways to scry but it ends up taking more and more deck spacee that can go to ramp/creatures and just feels like a mana sink. >>97086190The problem with these decks is they are an attack on potential. People see what they COULD do, or plan on what they MIGHT do only for those plans to be eliminated. For literal years i've been triyng to make a "steal things from your opponent's deck" deck work, but i always fail, and the point of failiure is always that i'm fundamentally going trough one more step. I need to play cards that steal things, then i need to play those things. My opponents just... play their things. I'm always behind, it's always too slow, even for my pod that plays bracket 2, sometimes even just precons. I think i need a commander like pic related, who actively adds to the board while stealing or something, because cards like Don Andres, Jasper Flint, Xanathar, Nathan Drake, Sultai Gonti never seem to work

>>97086606I gave up on Andres because the deck just doesn't do anything. You play shit like old Gonti, Thief of Sanity, whatever, steal their cards to cast later. But now you spent your entire mana on some ineficient creatures that give you the opportunity to play their good cards, while they're just playing good cards to begin with. So now you spend even more mana to play their good cards, except they're not as good in your deck because you won't have all the synergy. But your commander kind of helps by buffing the stolen shit or giving you some treasures, except he ends up being a four mana timewalk yourself do nothing most of the time. I think actually trying to win with your opponent's cards is fundamentally a losing proposition, which is why i think maybe Etrata would fair a bit better since she can cast their spells opportunistically as necessary rather than having it as the core gameplan. I just love Thief of Sanity too much, and have been trying to build the perfect home for it, but it just never works out
>>97086652Why steal when I can give my opponents my stuff instead
>>97086652Etrata is probably the best imo, for the reasons you mentioned, she's also super slept on because nobody paid any attention to mkm. I think she's the best in the archetype if I'm being honest and the morph mechanic adds a lot of mystery to it
they need to buff this
>>97086652Adding to this, unironically my ideal commander for the archetype would be "John spellstealer - UBR 1/1, Spells you cast but don't own cost 2 less to cast", would be absolutely perfect
>want to make deck>too lazy
>>97086663Then just run more ramp or steal from the green player first.
>>97086762>>97086762>>97086762friendly UB edition, tourist welcome
>cut a swamp for troll of khazad-dum>what could go wrong>draw a perfectly good hand with sol ring, 2 rocks, 3 draw spells and... >troll >peak ahead before mulligan>no lands for 3 turnsunreal
>>97084244it is, the reminder text is "exile this card then either cast for madness or send to graveyard"
>>97084943you play an equipment and it automatically creates a body to attach skullclamp to and draw 2 cards, yes
>>97084956its scales #3/5/7 but with a 3 mana blank 4/4 instead of it being directly attached to a creatureits safer than whispered hopes or the selesnya ones at least and arguably safer than the green ozolith, but doesn't provide anything close to what they do for the extra cost
