>>97080709Cub is strong but that's a sidegrade. Part of Nissa's strength was being able to make a threat every turn, even if you had nothing to ramp into. Plus cub asks more in deckbuilding, nissa worked well even in 2c or 3c decks.

>>97080893Lorwyn seems neat. Strixhaven had nice looking lands and spells, though everything else was kinda trash. Other than that nah its over. Maybe Hobbit if it goes in Silmarillion.
Lorwyn look at the revealed cards so far is going to be a relatively low powered set which is quite tragicAfter printing pushing more and more alternative cost cards they decide to backpedal and make worse evoke. It might be a good idea to depower mtg but it just condemns Lorwyn into a feels bad set leading into a seemingly higher powered Turtles set.
>>97080893I'm excited for Brunt, FCA.
>>97080910TMNT makes me irrationally angry. I hope its a trash set like spiderman.
>>97080859Well that's because cub is way better at ramping, not going to disagree there. Nissa is better at other things, it just so happens those other things aren't as important as being 2 cmc and the ramp in eternal formats. Anyway, I think the better comparison for cub is to Kinnan. Both 2 drops, but cub doesn't require U, is nonlegendary, and it creates its own mana dork. Kinnan meanwhile has the upside of boosting noncreatures and providing a mana sink. A better showcase of powercreep.

Cube is fine and fun, but decks will be much worse and strategies won't line up as well compared to dedicated decks. If you have a group of friends but don't have a Premodern scene, you can proxy or build yourself a battle box of decks and get people to play. If you're looking for games, there is a webcam league, an MTGO league, and regular tournaments hosted throughout the NA, SA, and Europe. Any city with a current or former Legacy or Old School scene will have a Premodern scene, so check with your locals. >>97081890It would have more aggro decks and everything would more fine tuned in general since they would actually know what a mana curve is
>>97081890Apparently some people were running 61 cards so they could tear up chaos orb and completely wipe the opponents board once a tournament and still have a legal 60 card deck after. The fourth place deck has 66 cards So people would have slightly more consistent decks.
>>97081935Would a WR agro with Savan lion and Bolt win against a WU control with counterspell and recall?Would healing selves unironically be a sideboard tech in an aggro meta?
How do I get better at drafting bros, I bombed 0-3 with pic rel at bronze tier 3. It's not like I haven't drafted before picking up the game again with avatar. I had two bombs, Iroh and Aang which I drew reliably, on curve in all 3 games but I still lost every single one. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/7484111
>>97082062Maybe, maybe I could've gone rakdos since I noticed during first pack that black was a free color since I got Zuko conflicted in my 8th+ draw and red was free but I had opened Iroh earlier and got Aang with my 2nd pack. It wasn't even a case of mana screw, I think I just calculated the value of Iroh and Aang wrong, neither of them closed games and Aang wasn't good enough to protect Iroh alone

My first attempt at doing a tax effect. Does this read right?
>>97082686The thing is: Loot could have been a genuinely liked mascot IF the sets it was introduced and was part of weren't dumpster fire shit.MTG now lacks a protagonist or group of protagonists.MTG lacks a good story with connecting points.MTG lacks iconic aesthetics and themes. They don't want to do classic fantasy so they do "modern" fantasy (the same as rings of power, willow, etc)People doing MTG doesn't have creativity so everything now is soulless.
>>97082743>>97082711One of the trannies at edhg made this alt art. This mystery meat is the only card that uses shard tokens. One of MtG's better representations of mental illness
>>97083115It's not really a tax effect if it doesn't make it harder to do a thing. You should make it symmetrical. Even if it doesn't effect gameplay it would be a flavor win

>>97083163Thanks, I'll try that. My goal here was to represent her going to the library and checking out/returning books (where she gets too many and needs her body gusrds to help her). I'll try and think of a way to make it symmetrical.

Endless lifelinking goblins from an enchantment is surprisingly hard for UB to deal with.

>>97083554Anon, read Windcrag: "that ability triggers an additional time". >>97081748Goblins decks fall into a few different categories based on play style>RGYou splash green for Naturalize and Tranquil Domain. There are enough problems artifacts and enchantments that you need to have answers, such as an Oath of Druids or Solitary Confinement. This one usually runs 10 G sources and 4-6 disruptive lands (Rishadan Port or Wasteland)>Mono RAncient Tombs and/or the full suite of 8 disruptive lands. No Naturalize means your game against Oath is weaker but against other combo decks you need to rely on Port/Wasteland>BRCabal Therapy, Volrath's Stronghold, and Smother/Terminate. You have to rip the artifacts and enchantments before they get cast, but Cabal Therapy is disgustingly strong. You get access to the Gempalm Cycle + Volrath's Stronghold combo, which is a nonstop removal engine and very powerful. B also brings Smother or Terminate, which can hit stuff like Terravore or Exalted Angel. B also gets strong sideboard cards, Dralnu's Crusade is great against Pyroclasm/Engineered Plague, and you get Dystopia which can fuck up resolved Oath or Solitary or Library. BR is very solid build and probably the best of them>RWThe often forgotten and quite under rated goblins build. White brings Disenchant, an enchantment sweeper with Cleansing Meditation, and a valuable 2-drop with Goblin Legionnaire. Goblins as a deck doesn't have a super great 2-drop, Piledriver is good but better later when it comes down hasty with Warchief and a mob to bring some damage. Normally the best Goblins turn 2 is just cast Lackey turn 1, then Port on turn 2. Legionnaire brings a solid 2 drop that can apply pressure, disrupt creature strategies, and win combats against phat booty blockers like Elephant tokens (sac to prevent 2 damage to another goblin like a Piledriver or ping 2). White gains a better anthem with Shared Triumph and the best removal spell with Swords to Plowshares. The only real downside to W is that the mana is terrible, no allied fetch land

The format has its own ban list, also listed below. It took longer to make this post than to find the information. Stop being a dumb cock sucker

UB FF was the peak of UB in a Magic adjacent theme. That was one in a lifetime episode in the UB garbage history. Spider-Man was garbage, Avatar is garbage. And I don’t think any shit they release in the upcoming years ever match such success.

>>97088222Not really, boring mechanics, bad digital art for the most part when they could've at least tried to imitate the classic FF art (huge fucking missed opportunity). The lotr set was overall better.
Playing against UW control now genuinely feels so wrong. There's so much immediate value in every deck that even if I DO get dragged out into a long game VS control, it's still just a mtter of time before they fail to answer a must-stop threat and I immediately snowball value and just shank the bastards.I'm nit trying to meme here, I genuinely think standard is unhealthy without a viable control deck in the meta. The best decks that run no more lies still simply fail to stop even combo decks that make it to later turns. WotC makes it very clear that they want removal to be saved for key threats and the rest of gameplay to be 4 for 1 value generators that etb into a giant pile of P/T. Reanimator decks alone feel barely a step below legacy Reanimator pre-bans. It just feels dirty to kill control players with combo decks like this, I don't like it, and I don't see how this makes for healthy gameplay. It's reaching YuGiOh levels of the most meta strategy being to just solitaire your own library out on to the board and pray to god you do it faster than the other guy and that you didn't go second.
>>97088186MaNo has provided exactly as much proof on sales as anon here today so I believe it
>>97088246Cards like Lockdown and the ball that does the same thing are basically 3 mana wipes. Then you have the bigger wipes that now exile the GY too and do other stuff. These are WotC admitting defeat. You cannot make control strong enough to tools to stop the shitflood they have created, because all these creatures are broken and in order for control to have answers strong enough to come out ahead against a continuous stream of broken gamewinning creatures getting windmill slammed, the answer would be exponentially more powerful. When monored decks were killing people on turn 2 in STANDARD, it was over. That's the powerlevel the game is operating on now and they can only adjust a degree up or down from there because they design sets several sets in advance. You can't fix this without banning probably 50 design mistake cards across the formats.
>>97088261...do you think their shareholders just have zero insight or data? That they just go in there and say "we made 200 million" and there's no way to verify this at all?
>>97088246Stranstard is in fucking shambles you don’t even have three main archetypes represented let aside fair Magic decks.
>>97088261The proof is in investor reports. Lying to your consumers only gets angry posts, lying to investors gets you assassinated.
>>97088313Ah you are that retarded shill
>>97088280>>97088312It's just fucking crazy because I took a break between 2018 and 2024 thinking things might have improved because, well, the game was seemingly so popular by 2024. BIG mistake. We've got landfall combo, graveyard combo, airbend combo, wierd black and something lifegain combo, and of course red decks that still kill all of them on turn 3, on a bad day.I've been grinding my way up to mythic with a reanimator deck and a landfall deck to mix things up but it really all feels the same. T1 pray to holy jesus you don't sed a mountain on the other sideT2 play your combo enabler ( usually something impossible to counter at this early turn of the game )T3 play some must answer little creatureT4 kick off your combo and win the game right away anyway because every creature is a must answer and your opponent fucked up by not having 3 mana boardwipes and counterspells that don't even exist in the format anymore.
>>97088359
>>97088246>>97088280When JOTC started kikeing mono white out of a viable aggro archetype, the color was crippled. When they started giving the other aggro colors faster and more broken creatures to outvalue and outpace White’s control archetype, the color was dead and never came back. And this was before Gavin began his LIES about “helping” the color he himself destroyed. When, you, unbalance, the, color, pie, you, unbalance, the, fucking, game. And I don’t care about the warning you kike mods, someone has to tell the truth about these sheeny shekel kikes destroying the game.

>>97088380>the game was seemingly so popular by 2024standard, modern, legacy and pioqueer bled like 80% of the playerbase, even commander doesn't seem as popular as it used to be, this game can barely achieve 500player tournaments, outside of pauper and paupergeddon which is the only growing format with true large tournaments, compared to pokemon which is doing dozens of 2000-5000 players tournaments per year and yugi-oh which is also pulling multiple 1k+ tournaments per year.

Jace had fans, but half the cards were still shit and would have better been replaced with unique characters instead.Someone opined in the last thread that Innistrad was the beginning of the end, because it started the Commanderbaiting. But honestly it was just a very flavorful set because it introduced so many unique characters. A lot of them did not even get cards. >>97089084Maybe a decision taken by the French translators>>97089096Remember when Llanowar Elves was "too strong for standard"? Kinda funny they strayed from that, while Bolt and Counterspell are still no-gos.
>>97088979t-the meta hasn't stabilized yet!
When was the last time Standard was fun and cancer free?
>>97089193Never, standard was always a bad format and it became worse since F.I.R.E. design, then it was even worse after UBslop.
>>970891932011 I guess? it was the last time I played standard in person
>>97089081>can you elaborate on the choice of running torch the witness here? seems like clunky removal spellName a better one available in Standard.
>>97089221Why not play more Get Lost if you’re in White? Or Dusk Rose Reliquary if you want to lean even more into abusing the token generation.
>>97089236>Why not play more Get LostBecause Get Lost is a really, really, REALLY bad card in multiples.
>>97089193>>97089215It felt pretty over already when Jund Midrange was dominating INN/RNR. Now we look back and think, at least you could play some turns of Magic against that deck! (Except everything you played got removed.)
How do we have ten bansten fucking bansand the format is still this shit and insufferable
>>97089193The last Ravnica block.
I member when they printed these mana doublers because they wanted standard to be a turn 5-6 formatNow look at all the dumb 2 cost cards that they print because they want standard to be strictly a turn 4 format. Even the latest reanimator incarnation can kill you turn 4 due to haste giver + mass yard reanimation.
>>97089193Somewhere between eighth edition and llorwyn. New card boarders and planeswalkers were a big mistake
>>97089388Still banned in Pioneer for no reason.
MTG peaked here, this was the top for all formats
10-4 at eternal weekend, reanimator will not die if they don't ban tamiyo
>>97089619>red shitting over everything in standardyeah I bet you liked that you retard
>>97089623Good taste in brainstorm art
Alright then, I think it's safe to say that 10 bans was not enough to get Standard into a healthy place. How many more will it take? Badgermole and Enduring Curiosity say at least two more bans, but I doubt that's the end of it.
what should happen for them to do a format without UB stuff? a official supported one i mean not premodern shit.
>>97089881It only takes one ban: Anything in a modern frame.
Anyone building an interesting deck? Feels like modern card design is slowly erroding the brewing space of the game since most sets follow the same tires formula.
>>97089918for starters, the community will have to propose and kickstart the format first, there's no reason why wotc would intentionally create a format that goes against their biggest financial decision of the decade
>>97089946not my deck but see >>97088733
>>97089881You can't ban yourself out of this when there are 7 sets a year.
>>97088577The one who sold 200 million ON THE FIRST DAY, you retard.
>>>>>or is exiled
>>97088858But remember anon……..Powerful WhiteCardsLol
>>97089379Don’t worry, the powerful white cards Gavin promised are in the way at some point :-)
It really is kinda funny they used the commander legal extra sheet to print bunch of vanilla 2/2s while standard set has the cub
>>97089881>How many more will it take?I’d say it would need at least 40 more nonwhite bans for standard to have a healthy meta before Marvel and StarTrek shit up the format again.
>>97089623I am frankly shocked that they didn't ban her already. The top 8 for this EW was boring, but at least it wasn't just reanimator fighting mystic forge.
>>97089918>>97089980I think Maro was truthful at the time when he said UB would not be standard legal. Originally we would of had 4 standard legal sets and 3 UB/Modern horizons sets. Than they changed their minds. All formats are fucked beyond repair. Especially standard because we get all of the best threats and shit removal. Magic gameplay will be like this until design is changed and cards rotate out.The way the printed UN-finity in a black border instead of gray border in an attempt to boost sales. Spider man is the best case of what they are afraid of. A set with no playable cards in eternal formats will have no staples. Investors are smart enough to understand that resell value is in part effected by pack addicts looking for hits (staples). And stores that sell singles won't open as many if the cards aren't selling
Total scalper death
>>97090174>Than they changed their minds. They Hasbro.
>>97090237Im thankful for Spiderman being such a garbage set. It was necessary. I just hope every UB does the same.
>>97089881According to my calculations, this is the best guess: ~2,300 bans to get standard to a manageable state of health. Note that this will still be more powerful than any standard ever.
>YunaBeansOverlords vs Vivi/Cutter vs MoleSlop vs ExperBoomerang with Hopeless Nightmare was unironically the standard WotC intended
>>97090318Imagine the future with Leonardo, Spock, Thorin and Black Panther all Standard legal. Fucking hideous.
>>97090318>>97090374And none of it would’ve been the powerful white cards Gavin promised after 8 years of FIRE design.
>have opportunity to create original setting based on classical chinese mythology and history>instead end up with avatar, those couple of jumpstart chinese themed planeswalkers, and the portal sets (which were good, dont get me wrong) with no fully chinese inspired original setting
>>97090174>They were telling the truth at the time with UB, but it wasn't binding>No PLEASE ignore the reserved list fucking Legacy and Vintage in the ass!
>>97089084It's a mistranslation its pronouns are they/they not because they're nonbinary but because its multiple spirits acting as one.
>>97090411Zero copies of black lotus or ancestral recall available at cardkingdom. $3,520 for a play set of underground seas. There is a limit to the number of people who can play these formats. It looks like vintage is already full and not welcoming new players.
>>97090553i see a few stores doing 10-20 proxy card legacy and vintage now since its basically the only way they can fire it these days
>>97090402dynasty warriors ub soon!
>>97090402Enjoy your genshin impact
>>97090710Back to our roots
>>97090710Store lady boy, going through my commander decks, not knowing the combo win has been replaced with filler
>>97090837>>97090837>>97090837
>>97090402No way they don't have a Shenmeng set at least on the works. It's probably the last mainstream fantasy concept they have yet to really make use of.
