True, but i feel like bright colors are more fitting for a setting as over the top as 40k, at least the non human factions like orks, eldar and tyranids should be bright to highlight their alien nature and contrast more with the imperium factions.
There is also space for both bright and dark art pieces in 40k in my opinion but the art quality in general is horrendous for modern warhammer.

Hey guys, I'm an Eldar player and I'm reaching that point in larning to play where I'm able to win as often as I lose, what are some core fundamentals that I should know? Like when should I commit to an attack especially since I'm such a fragile army.

>>97081753
Exodites, Corsairs, Ynnari, Asuryani, and Harlequins should all be the subfactions for Craftworlds.
>>
>>97081891
That's from the Liber Chaotica right.
>Bodies evaporated from the material universe
This would imply if Crone World Eldar DID exist (there's no codex mention of them if I recall) then if they did exist it would have to be eldar choosing to go back to the Eye and recolonise their lost homeworlds.
But this story is also at odds with how the phoenix lords started with Asurmen living on an eldar world for ears in a shrine before fighting his way off the world fighting murderous cults and eldar chaos champions
>>
>>97081891

Is the fall of the Eldar and birth of Slaanesh the single biggest event in the galaxy? Seems like everything in the modern era kind of starts from there and it's ramifications.

>what are some core fundamentals that I should know? Like when should I commit to an attack especially since I'm such a fragile army.
If you win as much as you loose but have yet to figure out that such core fundamentals are such a fuzzy thing that there's no real answer to give there then it sounds like your opponents are thirteen year olds or eldar need another meeting with the nerfbat.
So, when to commit to an attack? Well, what can you get out of that attack (scored points, denied the enemy scoring, killing off the enemy so he can't score/can't prevent you from scoring), and how much will it likely cost you (losses, foregone opportunities elsewhere)? What other options do you have? Are there overarching, long term objectives to think about, where an attack here or there may either bring you towards or away from (physically or figuratively)?
So while there are some fundamental here like mathhammering out the likely outcome of, for example, a squad of banshees versus a squad of assault marines, but given the number of possible matchups and combinations there it'll take the kind of person who memorises phone books for fun to keep most of them in mind, the rest of us simply develop a decent feeling for it from a few base cases and then playing a lot of games (unless you just have one or two regular opponents and you all bring largely the same stuff every time. But for the actual tactical decisions, well, if you have any mind for these things at all it should be painfully obvious by now that the answers depend on basically the entire game state at the time, and in many cases you can't really tell if a decision was right or wrong until a turn or two later.

Hello everyone. It's time once again for the collage anchor posts. Sorry for missing a few threads, got a nasty flu and I've been sleeping a lot. This month's theme was model/unit that can fly. I will as always check the archive too but the best way to not be missed is to submit your entry in reply to the anchor posts.
Deadline is midnight sunday the 30th.

Here is the link to the december vote:
https://strawpoll.com/GPgVYwK2Ena

I read a suggestion earlier this month about the december collage and I'd appreciate your thoughts on it. He suggested that seasonal themes like halloween, christmas and such could be an optional bonus theme for their respective months. For example, let's say bikers/cavalry win. That would mean that you could either do a biker or something festive(or a festive biker). What do you think?
>>
>>97082281

>>97082329
I've only painted this one so I don't really have any deep insight. The thing I've done was mocking up multiple different designs in paint.net and then trying very carefully to copy the one I liked onto the mini, mainly orienting by proportions.
>>
>>97082315
>seasonal themes like halloween, christmas and such could be an optional bonus theme for their respective months
Sounds reasonable to me.
>>
>>97082346
I think you will get a lot better turnout for December if everyone gets to choose between painting terrain or painting something Christmassy. Both of those would be too niche on their own.
>>
>>97082315
>What do you think?
I really enjoyed the halloween theme and the broad spectrum of models that anons elucidated "spooky" with. I'd like to see more themes that can be widely interpreted like that.
>>
>>97082361
Maybe "Winter" would be a similarly broad theme, though that feels a lot more restrictive than "Spooky". Maybe "Holy" would be broader in scope?
>>

I wonder if the 40k warhammer quest will be based around drukhari. If it’s focused on one faction though it’ll probably lose out on the rpg elements and be a cyoa type game like dark water, which I don’t particularly mind, but I don’t think I’m gonna want that after playing dark water itself for a bit.
>>
>>97082440
Commoragh is an extremely diverse region, especially Sec Maegra where all the various foreign species live and mercenary companies and gangs are based. Not to mention all the weird warp beasts that live in the Webway too. You can easily have as much diversity as the Blackstone Fortress or more.

>Quadrillion is such a big number that not even tyranids can pull it (off)
Anon there are at least 2 quadrillion people on Holy Terra alone.
There are trillions of guardsmen across the galaxy, probably hundreds of trillions minium.
There are robably hundreds of quadrillions of tyranids when you consider their guns/swords are seperate creatures, and some are filled with many thousands smaller creatures as ammo and other stuff. Prboably sextillions of nids all up.

Terras population was proven to be at least 1 quadrillion because all the oceans were removed and it's a planet sized city like trantor. It's basically a machine world like mars except more populated.
The most densely populated area on this planet is generally considered to be the neighborhood of Mong Kok in Hong Kong, with an estimated population density of 130,000 people per square kilometer. If you extrapolate that to the entire planet because all the oceans are gone you get around 20-50 trillion and add the fact that there's people living underground in the same density that will never see the sky, you can easily get to at least 1 quadrillion.
You also have to remember that they went to an AI based society and then shackled AI to human brains. So all these people are actually needed. They were produced on purpose. There's no such thing as unemployment in the imperium.

>it's presented to the Votann as a one-off thing they have no expectation of being allowed into the 'established genepools' simply so they can have a child of their own
>the child being produced isolated from the rest of the cloneskeins inclines the Votann to allow it
>combination of small, stout and sturdy Kin genes and Eldar 'beauty'-- Kin genes 'round out' the sharp angular features of her Eldar lineage into a form of 'beauty' that is more rounded and 'cute' while still being highly physically durable
>dormant/damaged Grimnyr genes from Father were repaired and passed on to her and she has natural Psyker inclination from the Eldar exile mother, making her an extremely insulated Psyker that largely resists corruption but can still 'overload' from 'Perils' and has to vent the excess energy much like when using 'Venting Shriek' in Darktide
>Kin Father is a Rogue Trader that does business with the Imperium while also serving the interests of the Votann/Holds and passes his Warrant to his hybrid daughter and she pretty much carries on his legacy in her own way
>white hair from mother, blue eyes from father, fair skin and shortened but still 'elf-like' ears from both

Yeah but that's obviously more something from the Eldar mother, to have a conventional family.
>Imperium wouldn't give a warrant of trade to a Squat
Has it ever been explicitly stated or simply conjecture on your part cause nobody in the company cares enough to actually write anything about the Squats/Kin and in turn simply haven't done it yet?
>>
>>97082877
The cartel contract rule is so janky. Why does it cost a command point at a very specific timing window to keep your rule instead of just renewing automatically? Why do you lose that rule if your warlord dies or is in a transport? Why do you have to pick it at the start of the battle and not at the start of your turn? Why are two of them army-wide buffs but one of them is only against a single unit?
>>
>>97082880
>something from the Eldar mother, to have a conventional family.
It doesn't matter, the kin, let alone an elf, don't have a say on the matter of what gets produced by the votann AI, the computers rule their society and produce clones as they want when they want for the purposes they want.

>>97082880
>Has it ever been explicitly stated
it has been stated that abhumans are second class citizens and that the warranty is extremely valuable and a honor of the such degree that's granted by the imperial's highest authorities.
squats are discriminated against and votann leagues in particular aren't part of the imperium and essentially heretical on multiple levels.
>>
>>97082910
Weren't Squats simply ancient humans that adjusted to their environments that could have had really fucking old warrants of trade or was that before Rogue Traders were ever a thing? If not, then I will concede and revise that part.
>the family bit
Are Kin not allowed to make requests to their computer leaders? I ask this cause there isn't nearly enough concrete writing on the Kin in an easy-to-find manner to find the answer myself.
>>
Are the Grey Knights the most Your Dudes unfriendly faction in the history of the game? They have a set number of brotherhoods, all of which are completely and fully detailed and defined. There is literally no room for Your Dudes. And, I mean, you might say the same of some of the more developed Space Marine chapters but that's what successor chapters are for. You can play a Your Dudes Blood Angels army that's your own homebrew successor chapter, or whatever. But the Grey Knights have no successors.
>>
>>97082935
the warrants were given out by the emperor himself.
squats became squats before the emperor became the emperor.

no, squats are the leagues of votann and they became as such way before the formation of the imperium, when the first warranties got issued
>Are Kin not allowed to make requests to their computer leaders?
no, the wisdom of the supercomputers is inarguable and followed blindly, besides they're barely able to make requests for information that are truly vital for their societies, personal requests are out of the question
>>
>>97082936
When compared to other Space Marines yeah. You’d have to change the scale of /yourdudes/ to make it work, as in instead of a whole new chapter, you give every dude in your army (or at least the sergeants and above) names and feats to explain their status.

>The Cult of Eternity's Prelude are an odd Wych cult that hunts a single prey - their fellow Drukhari. Small and secretive, these fighters undergo extensive physical modifications via Haemonculus to resemble daemonic hybrids,
>The form of Slaanesh's minions brings forth a deep seated horror in the souls of their victims, and the slow, painful deaths by Agonizers serves as the prelude for what will follow the Drukhari after death.
>The cult is somewhat controversial among the Dark City's denizens, some seeing them as openly mocking She Who Thirsts, others seeing them as little more than Chaos Cultists in disguise. There have even been some who laugh at them, insinuating their act is worthless grovelling for daemonhood after death.
>However, their unique brand of torment finds an audience in Commorragh, often being used as executioners for deposed Archons or Kabalites who have made too many enemies.
>They are very rarely called upon for Realspace Raids, but when they are, they often act first, making use of smoke and trickery to live up to their daemonic appearance. Such was the fate of the defenders of Ixar III - Their apperance led to a contigent of Sisters of Silence coming to banish said daemons, only to be surprised and slaughtered by laughing Wyches.

Serious answer: 40k works and sells, they don't need to try a dozen alt systems.
Kill team is 40k releases with some rules
Necromunda is a side game.
In fact 40k sells so well they made another main game with horus heresy.

40k doesn't need half a dozen side games that also fail to stick themselves
>>

>>
>>97083777
>sandbox
A sandbox is a box with sand and some toys, everything is there and you can do virtually anything and everything.
Pulling shit from your pocket isn't what sandboxes are about; AoS isn't so much a sandbox as a pile of stuff caried over from the previous house moving.

>>
>>97083812
It used to be. Now, every battlefield needs named characters. Chapter Masters are everywhere.
You no longer have stories with no characters with models.
Look at Space Marine 2. The Captain is litterally the phobos captain.
That makes the setting small. The potential is still there, but Calgar and Guilliman being everywhere makes it so limited.
Also its retarded how Lionel is not the primarch that is everywhere, considering he can litterally teleport anywhere. They still cling to Guilliman and the Ultramarines despite having a second good guy primarch.
GW is retarded and keeps underusing their assets.
>>
>>97083818
Nta but that's not the problem of the universe, it's the problem of IP holders wanting to reuse existing IP.

If you have an expensive lawn-mower you want to make the most of it, so everytime you think of doing something else than mowing the lawn a little voice in your head goes "I"m wasting the money I spent on the lawn-mower if it's sitting there."
No matter how low the grass has been cut, you still have this expensive lawn-mower you paid for, you gotta use it.

And that's why the same shit is brought back again and again.
What, are you gonna spend more money and risk to buy another tool? The lawn-mower is still there, you'll have even less time to use it, which means you're losing money.
>>
>>97083843
People keep buying millions of marine models and enjoying capeshit-tier writing they'll keep doing it until that will stop being the case
>>
>>97083843
Lion is complicated by the Fallen/Luther and GW not wanting to let go of that for the DA so its much easier to go with Guilliman who has none of that weird baggage.
>>
>>97083851
It a retarded cycle.
People only buy SM marine slop because that's all GW makes because thats all people buy because that's all GW makes...
And GW is retarded since after SM, the Orks are the distant second most iconic faction of Warhammer, yet the orks are still pretty damn neglected with shitty "parallel" lines with their beastboys.
>>
>>97083880
Nope! In the 90s when all the armies were getting equal support marines still outsold the rest combined
Marines are just more popular, that's all there is to it
>>
>>97083880

>1x big guy
>10-20x troops
>5-10x big troops
>1-3x monster/dreadnought
>1x super monster
And 40k has become a coop tabletop, where other factions are just tokens and flavor for people to pit against their space marines

If a Grey Knights player or a Drukhari player wants to expand their army, they have a choice of a single model or upgrade sprue
If I play three armies, say Iron Hands, GK and Drukhari, then even if I want very badly to grow all three armies equally, then I have, in 2025 alone
Space Marines
>New giant Terminator box (£155)
>End of edition christmas box with shiny new sculpts with some extra units I might not have, including Dread chassis which are mostly interchangable with some hobby work (£155)
>New terminator character to go with the Terminator box £29
>Jump Pack captain £27
>New Drop Pods £52
Total Consoomed - £419

For Drukhari, I have
>Malys £29.50
>An Archon when every set has had an archon for the past decade and it'll be done purely for fun £25
Total Consoomed - £55

For GK, I have
>Baby rattle upgrade Dreadknight (£50)
Total Consoomed - £50

There's not an opportunity to actually get anything. The GK and Druk range are so anemic that you very quickly start to run up against the Rule of Three when building any 2k army, which means that existing combo boxes that sell the same models start becoming worthless and the dedicated playerbase doesn't buy them because they've already got more of that model than they could ever need. Combo boxes cease to be a discount if you cannot use half of what's in there, which means there's even less incentive to buy them.
A lot of this really stings when both the GK and Druk start losing resin and then GW comes out to say some shit like "Sorry, redoing Draigo or the Court of the Archon is too resource intensive, brb just making unique ultrama auxilla girlpower squad to be the titus cheerleaders"

Fuck, the only reason Custodes aren't in the above as well is because they're allowed to keep their resin for now

Why doesn't GW do like basically every other company in the business of making wargames and skirmish games and so on and credit their creative staff? Writers, illustrators, art directors, etc.
>>
>>97085050
Because GW is a large enough company that they can get away with stealing shit without consequence. Also they don't want to give possible future competitors any kind of exposure - especially after the success some have had in recent history.

The history is that all stores were closed on thanksgiving so people would swarm stores on the friday after thanksgiving, it's 'black' friday because cops and store workers didn't like the sudden rush of customers, then it became associated with LOW LOW PRICES as a marketing tactic, which made the problem worse.

Unironically who makes minimum wage in 2005+20? It's like 8 bucks. I was thinking today, because I was making 42 bucks an hour with my overtime differential, that at one point years ago out of college I was desperate enough and dumb enough that I considered working 100 hours a week for 10 bucks an hour. 10 bucks an hour. 20 bucks can barely get me out of bed, even in a recession, 10 bucks is like "I'd rather just be unemployed".

>>
>>97085495
GW explicitly released Codexes rather than Supplements and divided the armies the way they did in order to make them more unique. The others will unironically never get pozzed plus Tsons are basically locked into the "you can never have flesh guys, ever" even if something like "ahriman tried to unrubric these guys and the result is horribly fucked up mutant superspawn" would be a cool addition.

>I lived in Philly for college 2010-2015 and worked throughout it and only made 7.25
The real reason that's nuts is because Philly, despite being a meme shithole (always sunny) is still a major city of a million people where rent is too fucking much so they were ripping you off twice. There's really no reason any business should pay less than 20/hr in a major city nowadays.
>>
>>97085559
i mean they pay that much because theyre legally allowed to and they still manage to keep the position filled
if they couldnt fill the position, and the position was integral to the function of the business, the wage would increase
thats no-skill/low-skill labor for you
>>
>>97085544
More. All of them.
>>
>>97085544
Less, they're just marines who were into all that shit before getting "corrupted" their fantasy counter parts were just regular people put into bad positions
>>

>>97085544
All 40k chaos stuff seems like a children's cartoon bad guy like skeletor in comparison to fantasy, w hich is pretty funny since Nagash/Settra are partially based on literally Skeletor. Fantasy is usually well written
>he tried to slay the version of himself from the future that was corrupted, but this trapped him in an infinite loop whereh e was doomed to become corrupted and slay himself!
Tortureporn and then 40k is like
>ummm, angron farted and this caused a million jillion guys to turn to chaos

It's basically Lovecraft 'soul becomes corrupted by dark gods' vs. World of Warcraft "guys guess what, this guy was good but then he WENT CRAZY WOOOOOOOOOOOW" with every single villain from Sargeras to Arthas just going so insane that they were like insane and did I mention they were insane?

It's fuckin lame.
>>
>>97085628
Literally every 40k/horus heresy story is written with max retardation for reasons of corruption. Like typhus is just fucking bad, but then Dr. Festus was a guy who ran out of options trying to cure a bad plague and made a deal with Nurgle he thought would be beneficial but instead mindbroke his already fragile brain with infinite knowledge of diseases, causing him to become the leechlord.

Or characters like Lord Mortkin being superior in every way to Archaon, and even Archaon's "forced to fall to chaos by destiny" being better than Abaddon since abaddon was already a fuckhead and now he's a fuckhead who is also buttmad at chaos.

Also, very importantly, fantasy has far fewer
>ancient villain alive for thousands of years after being btfo by sigmar
So they feel more special. Guys like Nagash, Drachenfels, Azazel are few in number while in 40k literally all the chaos marines (Or most) are like "yeah I remember the emperor". The long war is cool in concept but having every bad guy be the same bad guy from 10,000 years ago is kind of fucking lame.
>>
>>97085696
