Always liked the LRM variant of the Axman. It's fire support that can also just fuck up anything light enough to flank it. The range brackets really line up perfectly for making it equally dangerous to stay out of melee range and close in to get away from the LRM-15s. Even Clan mediums don't want to get stuck fighting point blank with a five ton hatchet, 3 medium lasers and a LPL.
>>
>>97088164
>>97088176
Less "WYSIWYG" and more "were choosing this over the variant everyone is visually used to because it was on the cover of MW4 and has been the main version in ever MW game its appeared in". It's a weird decision since the only Banshee we have is the 3S and not the 3E.

The post cited is popular fanon but it's just as likely that its shadow is in two universes or more simultaneously. Read the stories for more context on that detail. Even the characters in-universe can only speculate based on what they know.

A royal Locust is still a Locust and still has almost no combat endurance. If it's all you got then it's all you got, but if there's options, stuff that can jump far or survive more than one hit would be better for a small unit with no strategic reserves.
>>
>>97087569
It's a meme that the online fandom has run away with. In the canon material it's a rumor about a creepy Marauder told second hand, like a sailors story in a portside bar. What made everyone jizz their pants about it was a single, outlandish line at the end where someone says something like, "this one guy said it even turned its head like an animal and looked right at him!" And then some terminally online nerds were all "my heckin' cthulhu-rino!" And a bunch of fanart was made of it being an eldritch horror. The End.

>>97087560
I say the raid on Arcturus was way more than just a bluff. It was based asf that what it was.

The original Black Marauder story all but stated the whole thing was bullshit. IIRC the story was told from the point of view of some guys in a bar talking about some pirate having found the legendary haunted Marauder and used it to overthrow a local pirate lord, and most of what we hear about said Marauder is the legends the people have heard, like how it was originally found on some abandoned SLDF testing site on some nameless asteroid where they had experimented with weird hyperspace tech and how people claimed the mech was possessed and all its pilots died shortly after being assigned to it and that it moved in a way more like a living being than a normal mech. The closest thing to an actual eyewitness account was that the pirate who recovered it had marched to the pirate king's fortress with the mech walking behind him, with seemingly nobody at the controls, but given that it was stated that before finding the mech he had salvaged some old SLDF drone control systems, and that somebody found a hidden compartment aboard his DropShip that had a dead guy and the drone control device, the implication is clear that he wired the mech with a remote control and then killed the operator to ensure he wouldn't reveal the truth. In all likelihood he never even found the legendary mech and just took a regular Marauder and painted it black to match the story.

Some later sources seem to imply the stories have at least some truth to them, though, and there might really be a mech possessed with hyperspace-demons or something out there.
>>
In general guys, where are you getting the mech sheets you print off for play? I'm new to the game and I see that MegaMekLab is one option. It doesn't seem to have every model I'm looking for. Then there's the record sheet PDFs, but it looks like those are only paid products? Is that how people are officially getting the sheets they need?
>>
>>97089688
There's some free record sheet pdfs on CGL's website, but for most you'd technically would have to buy them. But I've always just use Megamek or pirated the record sheet pdfs.

I want to run a scenario where a crashed warship still has power to some of its mech sized weaponry along with one singular capital weapon. What would be a good sized ship that's not to well armed or armored for three players and three lances to fight?

If my players are new to battletech but not wargaming I like to run a game of Shadow Hawk and Hunchback vs Wolverine and Griffin. the Sarath is pretty much straight up a liger from zoids. it has the melee claws, and the turret for BIG fucking guns, and its a fucking omnimech, a FAST agile, manouvreable medium-class omnimech.

it has enough podspace in that turret for a fuckload of clan LRM's (one of its canon configs) to maccross missile massacre ALL the things, OR you can cram a plasma rifle in it. or CUAC10. or CLBX10. they're just so versatile.

only weakness is a bit thin armour. but with 24 of the fuckers inside one union dropper, you can afford to be ultra conservative on the forced withdrawal.

>>
>>97092214
Hanse Davion being a 1/1 doesn't make sense to me. Sure he's had the benefit of top tier training, but he's also been trained in social and statecraft skills and took command of large formations earlier in his career than normal (he commanded a fucking battlemech regiment at 28 years old.) He shouldn't have the skill of someone who lives in his mech and fights non-stop for a living. None of the national leaders should.
>>
>>97092214
I think officially they don't do 0 rated skills, but also his SPAs make him effectively 0 piloting for many PSRs. Otherwise the interaction of his SPAs means he can get extra MP, use less MP in certain terrain, run full speed backwards, lateral shift, has extra torso twist and flippy arms with any mech and basically say "No" if anyone attempts a melee attack on him.

Imagine how an Wolf cadet in the Dire Wolf failing the trial would be treated

The part where the guy is walking the mech in front of the pirate lord is from the third short story. He's also the same guy who claimed the Marauder after his Sergeant took him to its hidden location and told him about it (which is the first story)

Do you suppose those guys are going for blood or are they just hazing the candidates? I can see violent hazing making sense, but I think bottlenecking your mechwarriors by needing them to also be dominating bare knuckle brawlers would severely gimp your touman.

>I know no interesting facts about the other general ranks

"General" comes from "Captain-General" - i.e., the captain in charge of everyone.

"Lieutenant General" is the General's lieutenant - his close subordinate to whom he delegates authority (the original meaning of "lieutenant", which comes from the French for "stands in place of").

No idea about Major General.

it is the ultimate dickless faggot clanner move. because, as we all know, clanner fags are all talk and are dishonourable as fuck.

you rock up in your ADDER to a ToP etc, and well, who's going to shoot you? the dude in his fucking dire wolf? the guy rocking the fucking timber wolf? the guy in the mad dog? And lose all their honour by attacking such a pathetic, feeble target?

It gaurantees you the first shot as the others have to basically stand there waiting for you to shoot first. which lets you fucking flank and butt shot, etc

it also gives you extra faggoty dickless cunt points when you BEAT any mech, since it will probably out tonne and out gun you a lot.

all sorts of dishonourable, weaselly faggot shit like that.

Here's the thing, this one looks worse because it looks more like a totem mech.
>but shouldn't a totem mech look like a totem mech?
Actual totem mechs look bad because a big metal baboon or mecha fursuit horse looks fucking retarded. A literal zord just looks out of place at best.
Every mech that's a totem mech but could pass as a somewhat visually unusual regular mech looks decent.
Sort of like how the original protomechs look like crimes against battletech but the later flying debris designs mostly look good.

Now totem mechs and protomechs typically look like dogshit, but so do most designs until they've been redone, and no one can agree with anyone what's the appropriate style guide for the game because it's been through so many artists hands.

>>
>>97092772
Actually, all mechs are anime. It comes for free with your anime genre.
>>
>>97092419
Since unaugmented trials not only exist, but are much more common than augmented trials, yes, what the Falcons are doing not only makes perfect sense, but is actually objectively correct. You have to make sure your Mechwarriors are excellent hand to hand fighters as well as Mechwarriors, because their ability to perform the duties of a Clan Mechwarrior REQUIRES that they be proficient hand to hand fighters. You have to be able to beat up loads of people as part of your job, and you're going to participate in many trials over your career, most of which will not be in a Mech, so it absolutely makes sense for it to be part of the trial of position where you're making sure that the cadets can do the fucking job.

More armored, near the same speed as the heavy mech and is alongside the marauder II as the bonafide master piece of mech design.
Sadly we never saw the Rifleman Assault mech, unless Charles II of Spain decides to put it back the Rifleman III production as a 100 ton mech, and claim that HE is responsible for salvaging and dishonorable amaris design as they did with the matar.

Prior to the invention of the OmniMech, the Clans made upgrades to the mechs they owned (Hunchback C, Clint C, Orion IIC, Marauder IIC, Warhammer IIC, etc.). Given they made the Commando C (which they could only have gotten from Lyran Commonwealth deserters who joined the Star League Defense Force during the Amaris Civil Wars), how come there's no Panther C nor Koschei C (I didn't bring up a hypothetical Dragon C because the Great Wyrm is basically a Dragon C)? Surely deserters from the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery and the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces who joined the SLDF during the Amaris Civil War shoud have respectively brought Panthers and Koscheis with them, especially those who joined the Pro-Exodus faction?
>>
>>97097100
They didn't necessarily upgrade everything they had, but also the early clan era is sparser than the age of war in terms of what's actually been detailed. And at the end of the day, they also had a huge civil war before becoming the clans, all of those could have been trashed before Klondike even happened.
>>
>>97096930
The "gyr" in "gyrfalcon" is pronounced "jer" (rhymes with purr/fur/were).

But it's probably from the same root as "gyre", so you can pronounce it that way I guess.
>>
>>97097100
I have a hard time imagining Clanners even understanding a Panther, but they did make an Urbanmech IIC, which I can only ascribe to a desire to humiliate solahma pilots or possibly massacre civilians in a funny way.
>>
>>97097100
There's no Koschei IIC because the Koschei wasn't invented until 2008.

There's no Panther IIC...because. There's also no Battlemaster IIC, or Champion IIC. Not every Mech got IIC'd.

Also I love small mechs and I would have to see basically scope dogs as like a valid cost effective choice between a BA and a full on Battlemech. Something that can stand on its own merits but still be fodder for actual Battlemechs. I'd say what turns people off the most is the fluff though. If you dropped the part about basically killing the pilot in the long-term and redid the designs of the first gen Protomechs, then you'd have more people interested in them.

I would have liked protomechs as an IS answer to Elementals. Have them be a WoB mad science anti-clan thing that the Great Houses take up after the Jihad but the Clans are too proud to use.
>>
>>97097557
>"we don't have the eugenics history to breed humongous dudes,

They don't need it. There are over one million times as many people in the IS as there are Clan Warriors. There's enough Shaquille O'Neal's in the IS to wear Battle Armor.
>>
>>97097599
You don't even have to be that tall, you just have to be strong by regular standards and a little bit tall by convention. Even the Elemental suits can be tailored for regular people, they just don't do that except in special cases. If someone really wanted to, they could make BA suits for midgets.
