Leslie Fish, fantasy folk artist passed today. Her music helped inspire me on some fun Traveller sessions back in the day.How do you use music in your games? Do you spend much time curating a playlist or just use the first playlist you find?
>>97088879>Listening to Some Kind of Hero in the car >wtf now I'm crying I don't play music during gameplay, I find it distracting and extra stuff to fiddle with if the pacing doesn't match up and otherwise janky. I do like listening to themed music when prepping though. Currently on https://archive.org/details/mtk218for a Carcossa game.
>>97088879Oh shit RIP, I was just listening to her last nightI dont use music because its too hard to set up and manage while also doing everything else
RIPSucks that filk is a dying genre, even with its brief revival in interest. Everything just gets thrown into bardcore instead.
>>97088879>Leslie Fish is dead
RIPI have a few Dungeon Synth artists/albums for listening during games. I usually just put an entire album then another when it ends.
>>97088879>Leslie Fish, fantasy folk artist passed todayFuck, that's too bad. At least she made it this long I guess, and it looks like she at least got to go at home while having hospice care so hopefully it wasn't too rough a way to go.https://archive.org/details/filk_carmen_mirandas_ghost
>>97088879Holy… I didn’t realize it would hurt this much.
Here's how I found out about Filk:https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/2014/33291717/
Hot damn. Sent her a message on facebook a while ago saying I was very glad to have been introduced to Filk by her.I don't know if she's ever read it, she never replied but I hope she did.
>>97090163Yeah, I'm not the type to actually feel anything when some celeb I've never met dies but this feels different. Might be since filk isn't as popular.Good memories on SS13 with dawson's christian and the rest of that album
>>97088879Ambiance, narration, or boss music. I've used stuff ranging from Soulsborne, to Age of Mythology, to WWE music, to Deathspell Omega and other metal instrumentals.
>>97088879>How do you use music in your games? Do you spend much time curating a playlist or just use the first playlist you find?I absolutely set up a playlist and make a table for each "kind" of track on it, one for combat, one for general ambiance, another for investigating and intrigue, and one last one for character introductions/plans being executed. the themes i try to use for different moments, or like when a specific NPC is present or the focus. it immediately makes me think of the character themes on something like sonic adventure 25 years ago
>>97088879RIP Leslie, thanks for the wonderful tunes. The Christian is out there somewhere.>>97089746Filk was never exactly big, most of the people that did it were the only ones keeping it going. Genres are for marketing, not artists. It doesn't matter what genre you make a song in if the spirit is there. mind.in.a.box is as much filk as Carmen Miranda's Ghost.

>>97088879Mostly for in game music that is taking place at the time. I used some of those songs when the players enter the Starport bar. Same with fantasy inns, playing a tune and saying "Walking through the night, your characters hear this in the distance" and playing a particular tune (Windrose for Dwarves, Rivendale Ambience for elves, Bilbo's party music for hobbits and peasants, etc) lets them know what they might be approaching. I also sometimes use sounds for what is happening in the background, burning fires, battles, horns, pipes, animal roars etc. Show don't tell.
>>97088879>Leslie Fish, fantasy folk artist passed today.Well that's a sad note to end the day on. I actually learned of her music through /tg/ over a decade ago, so I've associated her body of work with the nerds of this board for a while now. Figures that I'd hear of her passing through here as well. RIP to a good one.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyTIt4AioEI
I've brought up Filk music to help with worldbuilding in 2 of my last 3 campaigns. Love sharing the genre with people. This one hurts. "For space is wide and good friends are too few."
>>97091947heads up FYI, there's a guy that found tapes in higher qualities than that one.https://youtu.be/qxjNmjcI4Jo?si=uEbzHFQ72prN1GrD
