I made a Nottem Portant lookalike Gangster Lasombra Antitribu named Jackie going hard on the Obtenebration to cope with the fact that we're never getting a third The Darkness videogame and saving Jenny. Couldn't stay consistent between putting on a bad Elvis or bad Tony Montana voice. ST allowed an Abyss Mysticism specialty from Occult Interest despite that actually being more for the esoteric recluses the clan considers quirky weirdos.

The plot was about tracking down a Gangrel that had been skipping Elysium a bit too much only to find out he'd left an unaware childe and been turned into a Gargoyle by some Lure of Flames happy Tremere.

It was fun. V20 shadow tentacles enhanced with potence are busted. We called Obtenebration 4's Shadow Form Morbin Time

It's mainly a question about if your character is better equipped to deal with a mass of people or if it would be better to deal with individually powerful monsters like ghouled animals.and the Gangrel themselves.
For the clan enmity you can buy a retainer or equipment to deal with the later more easily.

Lost fans, does CtL actually feel like a game about faeries to you? Whenever I read about the keepers or Arcadia, I'm reminded more of Q from Star Trek. Is it being a game nominally about faeries actually part of the appeal, or could it be dropped and you still enjoy it?

Let me phrase it this way, lost has a similar tone to the Wolf Among Us. It has a lot of the fantastical elements but doesn't lock you into a general mindset a fairy tale outside of the Hedge.
So it's the closest thing to fairy tales I can see working with this genre.

In Changeling the Lost, fairies are supposed with mechanics and terminology that don't make them seem like faeries, but in practice, all of these things can be used to create True Fae that behave exactly like an old fairy tale.
In Changeling the Dreaming, faeries are covered in the trappings of folklore and are covered in names that make them feel like they adhere to fairy tales on the surface, but when you dig into it, Dreamlings are basically just ordinary people with a fey coat of paint.

The Garou only work as protagonists by putting them up against cartoonishly evil caricatures. In any other setting, they're clear-cut bad guys.
This is a group who use their kinfolk as brood mares, and in their heyday ruled humanity with an iron fist, butchering them whenever they pleased. Which I'm sure was actually a Gaia given mission, definitely not an excuse to feed their inherent blood lust.

NTA, but the logic is that those two, especially the Gangrel, have the least amount of organization and network ability. Clan Enmity is less about the individual threat level of any given member, but what that clan can bring to bear as an institution. For example, you don't want to run afoul of the Ventrue because they have the ability to freeze your assets, drive you underground, and then put a bounty on your head that those aforementioned combat machines will want to claim.

Gangrel pride themselves on being individualists, which means they struggle to mobilize at scale. So if you've pissed off all the Gangrel, you're not constantly dealing with a network of the bastards harrying you.

I don't pick the Toreador because, in my experience, the Ventru come attached with no additional pay. The Gangrel are a pain in the ass but are a lot less prominent and have a harder time using their big guns in the areas where the game is usually set.
The Bruhja are combat monsters, but you don't get your night-to-night deals crippled because you can't deal with the local anarchists, in most cases at least.

Mostly going off the older books here, but yeah, it feels like a game about the Fae. Granted, you do not play as one yourself, just one touched and changed by them, but that's a reasonable concession to make, since otherwise players would have to be playing as completely alien minds.

Lost has, if done correctly anyway, always felt to me like an old fairy tale. Horrible things will happen, the success or even survival of our protagonist is not guaranteed, but there's a dark beauty to it, and the story itself follows an old, almost primordial style wherein there's always a moral, even if the protagonist meets a grim fate in service of that moral.

I can see why it might not read that way to those familiar with sanitized interpretations, and it can perhaps be a bit light on neutral or friendly faeries, but in my estimation, it generally nails what fae should be in a horror setting. If you're not seeing it, perhaps don't overly focus on the Keepers. They're the big bads, but they're not even the majority of the Fae. A lot of your archetypal fae tricksters and monsters are covered by hobs and hedge beasts. The True Fae are your upper end, basically capricious and alien pagan Gods rather than more common "faeries".

To be fair, the Garou are only ever portrayed as the good guys in relation to the literal end of the world doom cult trying to defile every single thing at the same time and turn said "broodmares" into slaves for the corporate machine. Kinfolk are kind of just the unfortunate casualty of the struggle as it's either slavery of devotion or slavery of capital (with extra rape) unless they take the third route, say fuck the system, and actively contribute to the end of the world because they aren't helping the Garou (who are objectively right in so far as it comes to Pentex).

Of course, and reasonably, to every other splat and perspective the Garou are just assholes who judge you for potential of you being judgy while they act like assholes. Outside of Mummies, who are kind of just good by nature of the setting, I don't believe WoD has outright "good guys."

Even further on the Garou discussion, technically their prolonging of the apocalypse can be looked at from the pov of stagnation and facilitating even more rape and suffering for a world desperately in need of a reset the forces of the wyrm definitely cannot be trusted for this reset though

Ill stick to how I actually made her but if I ever redo the character Im going to overhaul her backstory.

She was a nazi scientist/occultist who experimented on jews and the Ravnos during the holocaust while being sponsored by the Tremere. When shit started to go south she fled to Argentina instead of getting raped by marauding soviets. She spent a few years living in Argentina until her sire tracked her down, embraced her, and relocated her to the Milwaukee chantry where she studied under Carna. Milwaukee was then besieged by the Sabbat which caused her to to flee to [fictional midwest city] where she had to get an apartment in the slums. The local gangbangers didnt like her because she was "a stuck up neonazi bitch" who would often threaten to sic her german shepherd Austwitz on them.

The coterie got invited to a fancy ballroom party hosted by non other than the local chapter of Ashwood Abbey. One of their members was embraced and they were having difficulty apprehending him so contracted us to do it because he knew their faces and tactics. Mother fucker got turned into an assamite so finding him was a pain in the ass and catching him was even worse.

The coterie decided to just send her to do the exchange because they wanted to be assholes so she went to deliver their former member. Her reward was getting tackled by 3 of them before being strapped to a table, getting a chair leg shoved up my ass, and gang raped. They were just going to let her leave with her unlife but decided to give her a briefcase with 30k in it and the chair leg they sodomized her with because "that was the best dead pussy they ever had" (along with the first tick towards being ghouled).

At that point I realized the Reimagined Bond could be optimized with group sex so she decided to solve her dispute with the local gangbangers by drinking from a drunk person, stumbling back home, and starting shit with them. One of them got pissed off enough to step up to her and threatened to choke her out so she adopted a dopey grin and blurted out "you know I've never had a train ran on me before...".

Because of the new tremere bane she had to get railed 4 times instead of 3 so it just became her "saturday night". The gang actually came in handy. Haven protection, a cut of their drug money, easy access to illegal firearms, and they helped the coterie dispatch two Ravnos holocaust survivors that tried to kill her.

Eventually she earned enough clout in the chantry to be entrusted with 2 Ducheski revenants. She then ran an experiment on one of the gangbangers by regularly giving him regular Ducheski blood infusions for about 3 months and sending him out to impregnate a few women to see if the children would be born revenants. The chronicle ended before I could see if the experiment bore fruit.

Jesus H fucking Christ. It took me 6 hours to write this up because every time I sat down and wrote a few sentences someone was either calling me or asking for help with this or that.

The former is defined by a lack of control that makes playing as them unfun, and the latter is more of a power-set that could be grafted on to your magic user template.

What we can tell you now:

The new project is our love letter to the 30+ years of vampires that have led us here. We’re celebrating the connection between lore and mechanics, rules and storytelling. The design is focused on player agency, collaboration, and making the experience feel personal. The art direction is built around illustration, with a strong commitment to human-made work.

The first time I ever played WoD was Vampire the Masquerade Revised as the Storyteller. It was very quickly thrown together because I wanted to appease a friend who was having a moody depressive episode after we called his DND game shit (It was, I make no apologies but I did feel bad for him) So I was having to learn the system and craft a campaign on short notice. I decided to run the ancient Alien Hunger module set in Denver which offers a way for your player characters to go from regular people to vampires and uses the suddenness of the becoming to the stories advantage. It was a lot of fun but eventually the game fell apart because I could not stand two of the players due to one being a BPD schizo and the other being so terminally autistic that he could not understand how to role play a normal person.
TLDR; My first experience with WoD was suddenly having to gamemaster for it and not being able to get a feel for how its run from being a player in someone else’s game first. Retarded schizos ruined the fun and now I am gameless and looking for a group to join.

I don't think you understood what I was saying, especially if you think I would in any way lament losing W5 or H5. Allow me to restate more clearly.

Firstly, the 20th Anniversary Edition as well as nWoD/CofD were being put out by OPP. Refusing to approve new books for either, effectively killing both, was a decision made by corporate not the dorks who put out the V5 core. Thus, supporting any WoD product would be rewarding the people who killed both settings.

Secondly, if there is a successful new edition, they will have even less of an incentive to bring back those old lines, forcing fans of every single gameline besides VtM to wait for an indefinite period of time. In the case of those who like any or all CofD lines, this would mean they're never going to get their gamelines back. As someone who likes parts of both the old and new World of Darkness, I find this both sad and frustrating.

Thirdly, and this is a personal note, I have put a lot of work into making my own table-specific WoD, and so something new that's good coming out would be rather annoying for me since I put in much of this work precisely because there were no new/good releases.

Forces 3 to concentrate/amplify/transmute a pre-exitsing fart. You could also add Prime 2 to create it from scratch and pump as much quint into it to make it silent but extremely deadly. I just ran my first V5 game after not touching WoD for nearly a decade. It turned out really well, my players all really engaged with each other and world solidly and gave me really nice compliments at the end.

Vampire 20th is fine, not the best or worst. The lorebooks are pretty ass compared to previous editions, but that rarely comes up. Dark Ages Vampire 20th is the most polished of any in the mechanics department though.

Using DAV rules for the modern setting with old clanbook lore is the ideal.

In both Mages are called Awakened, except for some reason in the first one(WoD) the game is called Ascension.
First they called it Ascension then in CofD tried to fix it by calling it Awakening. That's the way I remember it

Even I being a MtAw enjoyer doesn't believe in this. MtAw reduced magic to "I'll just use whatever symbols I want and imagine how magic is". It's literaly pic related.

You can argue 1st edition is somewhat about magic 'cause main themes were "magic as hubris" and "mystical horror" and that's fine. But 2nd edition became scooby-doo investigation and they doubled down on "diamond are free fighters and prophets are oppressors" manichaeism from nWoD/CofD 1st edition. And paradox became even more of a joke in 2nd edition, making the game more "random magicl bullshit go".

I do enjoy both MtAs and MtAw, but if I want the "feel" of magic and discussing things around it (from societal perspectives to general philosophies, free will and self-discovery), I would go to Ascension. If I don't want to think too much about magic and make it as I go without the system punishing me, I go to Awakening.

Funny enough, the Syndicate believes in RDs just as they believe in their own Paradigm. Hell, that Time effect mention of Cult of Ecstasy is in character after all. But just because they believe in them doesn't mean they accept them as trust. That's why they can tell other Conventions they are wrong too.

5 if it is permanent, 3 if you can regain that ability. Think the Nosferatu Clan Weakness vs the Monstrous Flaw.
