You have an "idea"? Buddy, you're a barbarian. The only use for your head is bashing it against goblins.

This barbarian stereotype is so retarded, considering the whole idea we have of Barbarians came from Conan, who was especially crafty and often won with wiley cunning as much as raw strength. He used stealth to great affect in almost every story

Will we ever escape his bigotry?

>we
"We" who?
My idea of barbarians comes from when the Greeks made fun of anyone who didn't speak their language.

RL people frequently considered barbaric were often pretty crafty, too. Obviously who's a barbarian and who's not is pretty questionable, but, like, probably the most famous Germanic victory over Romans, for instance, was Teutoburg Forest, and that was all about cunning and deceit.

This is ironic considering how smart Howard's mcs are.
>>
>>98094249
It's also ironic considering that the first published Conan story is the Phoenix on the Sword, and the first scene with Conan there is him as the King of Aquilonia doing paperwork. The most famous barbarian in fiction is literally introduced to readers diligently taking care of minutiae of administration, while grumbling about it and yearning for his younger and more adventurous days, sure, but still doing it.

There's another involving reincarnation, but it was Conan, the Gael.

He's also a massive outlier, including the fact that he fucked off south to go adventuring to start with. Most of the people he meets assume he's stupid, so at the very least the stereotype exists in Hyperboria.
Arguably the Picts are better examples, as there's a story where they outwit more civilised people (Across the Black RIver?).

This is how I talk to my wife btw.
She is outstandingly stupid.
I love my retarded wife.

The whole idea of "barbarians" came from Rome insisting that everyone who wasn't a Roman was an uneducated, backwards savage who was bereft of art, culture, technology, etc. Nearly every "barbarian" culture that existed in Europe, labeled as such so Rome could feel like they were the best civilization ever, were inventing things and advanced beyond Rome in some ways that forced Rome to adopt their techniques and inventions, like soap, despite Rome's pride in bathing as a sign of their cultural superiority.

Why does Barbarian even exist as a class when Gygax admits Conan is a fighter/thief hybrid? Who decided to stereotype them as cavemen with swords?
>>

Frazetta's drawings

he's clearly talking about barbarians in D&D
you are an actual midwit and it is a fucking miserable experience being around you
>>
>>98096119
The concept of a Barbarian that D&D was referencing was incorrect both historically and from a pop culture point of view. Gygax was an idiot and so are you for missing the point of both posts. There never was a culture of roving savage simpletons who solved all their problems with raw retard rage, not in fiction, not in history.

The entire basis for the class in every edition is fucking nonsense and now only persists because it's a D&D sacred cow that upholds its own retarded brand identity.

What is the point of this post? What do you want to discuss?
