My copy doesn't have it as bad as this but ffs was there no way to improve the durability after 30 years? I would have scrapped the rubber skin and do full plastic to save everyone the misery.

>>11059680
Probably in a future wave.
Wave 2 is probably Streex and Slammu and probably Piranoid or Slobster and then 3 would be Moby Lick + some other villain + I dunno Rox with brushable hair???
>>
>>11060291
There was no way to make everyone happy anon. This line is banking hard on nostalgia to begin with, so I think it would have made much more people angry if they lacked the rubbery mouths. The tradeoff in durability was deemed worthwhile, and it probably will be-how many people do you think are really going to keep these for another 20 years?

If we're being honest, the nostalgia mining bubble is about to burst, and I think we're due for a huge Beanie Babies-style dump in a few years. People will move on to other shit, realize their homes are full of gaudy plastic crap, and it will get donated or trashed.

As long as I get all 4 brothers I'll be happy. I just won't open their mouths, I guess. What are the odds that this issue gets fixed with later figures though?
>>
>>11060309
Ripster's fine. I don't think even the original Ripster toy had paint issues around the jaw.
Jab's issue comes from the new paint around his jaw and the mechanics of his jaw gimmick.
It makes me a little worried for Streex, though his jaw gimmick is more in line with Ripster's. We'll see.

What else is Mattel going to do? Try to make people care about MOTU again only for something to once again go wrong?
>>
>>11062037
>people care about MOTU again
Origins has been a staple in retail stores since 2020 and still continuing. MOTU has a healthy retail life right now and fans are actually buying enough to keep even Masterverse going. Even with the Basedvin Smith show, fans are still backing the toys. MOTU I think is here to stay just like Transformers and TMNT.
>>
>>11062060
Too bad (Or should I say Two-Bad) the rest of the line is going to be online exclusives due to awful distribution of earlier waves except for collabs like Ninja Turtles and Stranger Things, store-exclusives, and retooled Filmation figures.
If Mattel is smart they’d greenlight a new SS show and all-ages toyline as soon as possible.

I’m even seeing Filmation Man-at-Arms and Skeletors everywhere (Though I did see some She-Ras for some reason).
You know a major reason the toy industry is messed up? Because companies like Mattel and Hasbro are ran by old fucks who refuse to admit that what they found interesting as kids kids today don’t care about. As opposed to newer companies say Moose and Zuru.
>>
I’ve also noticed “strains” when moving their mouths. Really sucks I may end up not being able to open and close their mouths without worrying about something tearing.

I honestly don't know how they made the paint on the old ones so strong. From working in a model shop I know most paints do tend to crack when painted over something flexible like rubber or silicone, yet they got in right back in the 90s. Look at this, despite all the fucked up paint from rough play, the corners of the mouth are still not cracked. I wonder if it's some mix of paint that is deemed no longer safe to use, or just Matty cheaping out. Wouldn't be surprised if it were the latter.

I'm hoping if I keep using the gimmick to an absolute minimum it will be a non-issue, but disappointing either way. I'll probably grab the radical roller blade shark for the sake of nostalgia and then be satisfied from there.
>>
>>11062663
>>11064048
It's just the paint itself cracking from the rubber bending. The rubber itself is fine. They should have thought better about the gimmick but not a deal breaker. Didn't even notice the paint cracking until this thread
>>
My paint is cracking a bit but it doesn't show when I have the mouth closed, so I'm not sure I care. All my vintage ones are degraded too, even past being beat to shit. I don't think there's much they could have done about it. If someone cares, they can just not use the gimmick, and it'd be the same if they hadn't added it

>If someone cares, they can just not use the gimmick, and it'd be the same if they hadn't added it
I would normally agree with you, but the boxes they come in are plastered with 'PUSH MY FIN IF YOU DARE,' so it is shitty they would use that as one of the main marketing gimmicks but not invest in a paint (or rubber) that is both durable and doesn't have paint issues after literally one use out of the box. Additionally, poor/low quality paint makes me think the rubber is equally poor and will probably age just as poorly (if not worse) than the originals.

It would be like having a tickle me Elmo but every time you tickle him his fur falls off...it is just lazy quality control and makes little sense while also painting any future releases in a worse light.

It's a mass market US toy, meaning it's beholden to child safety rules. This is not a high-end collectible, nor are Marvel Legends or Black Series. It's extremely funny to me that people are treating these like priceless heirlooms that they expect to last another 50 years. Shit, I'm not even interested in toys I bought 10 years ago anymore, there are newer and better things out now. How TF does a product like this make it all the way through design, manufacturing, and testing without anyone putting a stop to it because the fucking plastic is degrading badly just mere weeks after being produced without even being opened by the consumer in many cases??
>>
>>11066859
Company hires the Chinese factory, Chinese factory sometimes hire a cheaper bidder to do the work or use worse materials to make more profit. Mattel, Hasbro no longer own factories in China like long ago. They use the same factories often enough, but they're at the same mercies as smaller competitors while still at a larger scale of production

Alright you guise let's fix this cracking problem once and for all.
Before you activate the jaw feature use a hairdryer to heat the corners of the mouth up making both the paint and plastic malleable. Now keep the jaw opened and stretched until the plastic cools down or pour ice water over the surface.

Next snag some carnuba wax and work it into the corners of the mouth with a soft cloth. I'd repeat this process at least twice.

For already cracked plastic go snag some Loctite Plastic Bonding System glue. Use the bonding pen inside the cracks and use a hairdryer to dry it. Take a toothpick and carefully spread a thin layer of super glue inside the crack and close the mouth. Wait a few minutes. HEAT THE MOUTH UP before opening it and see if the glue held. If it did start buffing the surface with carnuba wax.

Word of warning, canuba wax is flammable and you don't want to get it all over your hands. It's great for softening and restoring paints and plastic, rubber or vinyl anything with plasticizers in them. Won't work with silicon or super soft stretchy rubber tho. If you can't find the pure stuff try a car wax with carnuba wax in it as long as it says you can use it on plastics.
