Hey guys, I need some help here. What is the best way to create blood effects that doesn't stain your figures (I was thinking about food colouring) and what is the best snow material I can use for pictures that doesn't damage or leave food like residues on your figure?

Baking Soda makes really good snow for photography. I wouldn't put any red liquid on a figure because the potential for staining is high. canofbeams used to make blood spatter effects, you could email them and see if they've made any more.

I have always wanted to buy some if his stuff, too bad it is too damn hard do get, but I will definetly try, do you think red food coloring, really thin with water would stain figures?

>>

>>do you think red food coloring, really thin with water would stain figures?
If it's too thin it runs off and looks weird, too much dye and it may stain.
You could experiment with a cheaper figure you don't care about.

I'm thinking about getting pic related when they hit discount in a couple days (since it's that time of the year.) and cutting some of the pieces up. I'll see if would look good or not.
>>
>>7224813
Cool! I will try those too. I see a lot of photographers using liquid blood, I think it is Halloween fake blood, but it always makes me wonder if it ruined the figures (most of the time, expensive ones)

And since you brought it up, I got it when Goodsmile held a thing where people submit their pictures and Goodsmile selected finalists then awarded tiered prizes based on gold, silver, bronze placement. If that isn’t a photo contest then I’m open to your definition.

Otherwise, I propose you quit having your conniption and just post stuff like >>7234336 suggests rather than preparing whatever mental gymnastics you have planned to pin your shitty attitude on me.

Not really.

You guys all seem really hell bent on starting shit with me, then overreacting to anything I respond with and saying I’m the one who incited it.

Keep us posted if you figure it out? I have this idea of having Rei stand in a pool of LCL fluid but I don’t want to stain a white figure.

>>
>>7234105
They most definitely aren't, anon doesn't know what they're talking about and you bet your ass they'd complain if he used the same dio for every shot too, there is no winning

>>7234636
Just put her behind a glass of tang, not actually in it - might have to find some sort of thin rectangular cup/vase to put it in so she won't look distorted
>>
>>7234383
Whatever it was, it wasn't a contest because all the winners were picked out at mcfucking random with zero criteria whatsoever. There were quite a few others that got robbed by mediocrity
>>
>>7234790
So you're just against names and being able to distinguish who took what photo? That's it? That's no different than calling other anon 'skeleton anon' or 'megabloks anon'. You don't want any PHOTOS in a PHOTO THREAD?

Get the fuck over yourself, you sound so fucking stupid right now. Possibly the stupidest one in this entire thread.
>>
>>7234839
Stop responding to him and he'll go away. He has the same writing style as the guy who plays mind games in the Star Wars threads.

Thanks for the brilliant idea! I have give it a go. Maybe I'll have her standing in a plastic cap or something.
>>

What's the furthest you've gone to get a toy photo, in terms of risk of damage to the toy or yourself?

I'm not usually one to take risks with toy photography, so I think this is the closest I've gotten to actually losing a fig. The shot itself sucks (The posing and framing are weird, a lot of things prevent this from being a good photo), but the hole under the tree stump was the biggest risk. Wild Weasel didn't have a very good grip on the stump in general, resulting in some awkward posing in hopes of not losing him to the hole. I think it was an animal den, the entrance twisted in such a way that it'd be near impossible to get anything out with bare hands.
>>
>>7232354
Looks awesome. have you tried the future shine trick to tighten the joints? I've also tried glue to tighten joints as well. Both methods have worked for me.
>>
>>7235839
I have. This shot had me pretty damn nervous when I took it.
>>
>>7235839

Furthest? I’m going to White Sands for some desert scenery soon.

Most damaging? Pic related. Missed the focus because she blew off the ledge of a parking garage right as I snapped it and she fell 4 stories onto the street.

I’ve also come really close to losing a few small accessories
>>

This. Those tracers are fireworks. Burned myself, the toys and the phone screen (I use an iphone to take pics). There wasn’t much burnt, but it hurt like a bitch.

Besides that the figure is excellent and the extraordinary photos I would like to ask you where you got the pieces of the background
>>
>>7242909
The posing in that pic is horrible. No life whatsoever. Look at some action poses Google & DeviantArt are your friend.
The figures have joints, so use them.
Also work harder when cutting out pictures to paste over a background. You have more halos than the Heavenly host in there.

There isn't much articulation with Storm Collectibles to begin with. I'll agree it doesn't look as natural as it could be, but look at it as if it's imitating actual MK2 gameplay and the photo makes a LOT more sense. As far as the halos go, you're over-exaggerating.
>>
>>7243768
I tried to make it look like the Mortal Kombat games so lifeless is probably a compliment in that regard. But yeah, my photoshop skills are still abysmal. I just wanted to try something with figures.
>>
>>7244242
>As far as the halos go, you're over-exaggerating.
You'd better look again. That figure's joined the choir invisible.
There's also the fact there's no blurring. All the edges are hard cuts. This where the blur tool comes into play.
>>
>>7242909
I think it's a good photo and does a good job of translating what you're trying to convey.

The haloing even work in favor for the "in game screen shot" thing you're going for. But the other anon has a point in that it's a little bit too much in just a few places. Under the tricep and elbow being the biggest offenders.

2hu from Unlimited Patch Works sells them, has them in different flavors of camo background.
These are the rest of the patches I've collected from various anon stores if you're into that sort of thing.
>>
>>7244777
What do you think about the legality of some of those? I refrain from buying stuff that clearly isn't licensed, but I think memes and parody versions of logos etc. are fair game.

I don't see an issue with it? If the owners of the IP's in question thought patch merchandise would be profitable enough to run them, I'd buy from them. But they don't. It's not a matter of legality, it's simple of supply. The only people making these are fans who usually care more about the individual franchise anyways, so I don't mind supporting them especially when you sell patches it's a significant financial risk.
>>
>>7244896
I find it interesting that stuff like that doesn't bother some people. Because every time I see an unlicensed logo or whatever, I just think "yeah, that's not real". Same with counterfeit brands, etc.

I mean, I can understand why people do it - sometimes there isn't an official alternative - but that alone doesn't make it OK or cool in my books.
>>
>>7244923

>"yeah, that's not real"
This is the most confusing thing of all. What isn't real, the patch? The patch is a real physical thing. It represents my appreciation, or interest, in a specific thing- be it media franchise or philosophy. Because it's not stamped or approved by a corporate lawyer for resale makes it fake? It has no value?
I can understand wanting officially licensed merchandise if you were a collector who was interested in authenticity or resale value, but if you just like Thing X, what does it matter where it comes from?
Let's take for example the Black Mesa logo on the hat in >>7244896. If instead of having a patch, and writing on the hat in white sharpie the same thing, would it still make it not ok or not cool in your book? It's just a fan showing he's a fan with something he made or bought from another fan?
I appreciate you calmly stating your points, but as a fan of literally anything, I don't know how you could survive with such a philosophy.
>>
>>7241374
shit, i'm no expert-of course- but I know what I like and this is a fucking perfect pic and pose! Top tier Anon!
>>
>>7244954
Not at all. I just wonder how people justify their buys, and/or why those legality issues don't bother them.
>>
>>7244885
That's for the license holders and lawyers to worry about.

But so long as artists and 3rd party companies are making products that license holders DON'T make, I say it's fair game for me to purchase.

I'm generally against companies churning out bootlegs of figures/toys that already exist.

It's because it's filled with normies with shit taste who just LOVE blurry shit. Do you have any examples of what you consider good toy photography? I know by “blurry mess” you mean shallow depth of field, but that’s super popular and done on purpose.

I’m not antagonizing, just wondering what you like.
>>
I got a better camera for toy photography and I instantly realized how limited my collection is for actual photography-focused means. I'm still able to take nice photos of what I have, but I'm starting to feel like I should branch out my collection for better photos. Has anyone else here had this feeling?
