Are you ever scared to complain about something because there's a chance that someone will make what you're complaining about intentionally worse?

My reason to not complain is actually because it's never understood and then causes a spat. Like with my mom, I could ask her not to keep so many sweets around to help me not eat so much and she'll freak out and then ask why I don't have self control or something. Then she figures out "oh you're joking, you're joking right?" And I can just brush it all off under that guise. (which is a different issue where if I try to be serious and discuss something she'll laugh through it thinking it's a bit)
