The "Blur mask" node is just a boolean switch for the subgraph and the Tile node is the TilePreprocessor from comfyui_controlnet_aux custom nodes. You're meant to blur up the image before using it in CN Tile.The idea is that with it you can go with a higher denoise and/or maintain the composition and avoid having anomalies form. It's basically upscaling with SD and I successfully used it for game texture upscaling. I just sit at CN of 0.6 and denoise of 0.4. I'd say tiled upscale/Ultimate SD Upscale is when you want to upscale to a ridiculous resolution. A standard i2i upscale with CN Tile is good enough to bring a rawgen up to a higher resolution. I have a 3090 so i2i upscale takes like 20 seconds for a single sampling process. Maybe that's wrong and there's some other reason for its name, but that's the explanation I heard.

When you memorize a handful of useful nodes, or make some presets, you can look at a workflow and add something in-between when needed. Or you can use all the nodes at your disposal to build a one-and-done workflow with subgraphs.For example, you could have a single workflow that generates an image, turns it into video and then interpolates it, or you could split this into three separate ones. All within the same program.The node approach is very specific as you need a specific mindset to harness it's power. Much like the name implies, you have to "flow" with them and then they'll be a breeze, and all the noodles will be transparent to your eye. Otherwise you'll just hate it and you'll want an AIO solution like WebUI. Nodes are also used in Blender and Unreal so if you're getting into game dev you'll be dealing with them anyways.

Basically with my ComfyUI workflow I created a subgraph that contains an ALU that I can do basic arithmetic operations with (addition, subtraction, etc) then I link that up to my main workflow and wire it to my multiplexer node, XOR the rawgen into a custom matrix multiplier node, and mixmod the VAEs. If the rawgen looks good enough I’ll jack in to latent space via my Valve Index™ and manually shift pixels around and rerun steps if they aren’t aligning right. From here inpainting begins and I end up with a gorgeously detailed piece of art that has the same perspective and subject composition of a child’s doodle. What I don’t realize is that eventually, if I keep at this I will become a real artist.
