Burger here. Been traveling in Europe for several months, mostly Italy and one thing I’m starting to understand is just how much poorer Europe is. You’re told Italy is like the US but with better food, but not really at all. Is japan being rich like us a meme too?
>>
>>1492439
>but not really at all
You have poor taste. Food in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey is better than in US at the very least.

Yes, many of the countries in Western Europe have lower income than the US -- particularly if you look at post-tax income. Some countries (Norway, Switzerland) are higher. So it depends on which places you go.

https://www.businessinsider.com/tax-rates-take-home-salaries-40-countries-2018-5

But we really ought to also calculate in the cost of living:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

But if you look at all the countries in the world, there are so many countries that are radically poorer that these West European countries start to look like they are at least in the same ballpark as the US.

If you are an american who can afford to drop everything and travel in europe, you are better off than you realize.
You have already had access to the best foods from around the planet.
Our lower class food in america is terrible, but our high class food is the best in the world.
Go to an expensive italian restaurant in any major us city and the food is better than 99 percent of the food in italy. Sure you will pay a few hundred dollars more for it, but make no mistake, its better.
This fact makes people so angry they pretend its not true.
Muh authentic blah blah blah.
Yeah, we dissected that shit long ago and now understand it better than you do.

If you are poor in america its because you dont want to work hard or have a very low IQ.
You can get a truck driving job tomorrow and make 60k a year.
If you can get the licence , they will take you.
Even if you are a felon
No excuse to be poor in america.
The disparity comes from the fact that we have many here who are impossibly wealthy.
>>
>>1492499
lmao, no.
statements like that are so baseless and meaningless why even talk about it
>>
>>1492505
>authenticity and is overrated
For sure.
Food (or anything) should be evaluated on its quality and nothing else.
When blind taste tests are employed, american wines and cheeses always win the big international awards.
>>
>>1492506
"temporarily embarrassed millionaires"
you really think people are only poor out of choice?
>>
>>1492499
>actually believing this

Yikes! The USA is terrible for high class food relative to its size. The fact you're conflating price with quality tells me you don't know what you're on about. You'll obviously pay more for high class food but not everything expensive is good.
>>
>>1492509
No , as i said, many have low iq
>>
>>1492512

No but many expensive things are very good.
With enough money, you can have nice things anywhere on the planet.
Not everything expensive is overrated

You're talking bollocks. American wines and cheeses win awards that are given by American run organisations. You'd have a point if you said craft beer, that's one area where the USA truly dominates other countries.

This blanket statement always gets thoroughly debunked when fools try to post it at //ck.
It is only correct if with ALWAYS you in fact mean RARELY. The categories won by amerifats tend to be categories for cheeses that aren't made anywhere else; IE Monterey Jack
>>
>>1492499
First of all, you are a fucking brainlet retard. Second, the vast majority of expensive Italian restaurants in the USA are run by Italians, hence the food is good because it's actually Italian food, not a better version of it. Italians are the ones who bring you the good food, and you're not "improving" anything. (Believing you can "improve" centuries-old traditions that are already perfect... this is the fucking sheer retardation of the American race). Third, you have never eaten in authentic restaurants in Italy. Why do I know this? Because you are the kind of dumbass that enters the first meme restaurant with English menus fresh out of Termini station. Where have you been, huh? Rome-Florence-Venice? Fucking kill yourself. You have not even the slightest idea of how's the food in Italy. (Which, by the way, it's twenty different countries in one, if you haven't figured it out already).
>>

THERE'S A SET OF BASIC NEEDS I THINK EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TOO, ALWAYS AND THE USA FAILS TO DELIVER THESE EQUALLY.

Nah, it's usually followed by solid arguments. No Italian has ever made a Monterey Jack or a coagulated cheese-like product individually packaged in slices. IE they are not competing in the same field.

how much poorer "europe" is- you realise that europe is a collection of a whole bunch of different cultures and countries right? and italy isnt poorer there are just less cathedrals to capitalism and less of a need for everything for everything to be torn down and built back up for real estate developers to make a quick buck at the expense of history. not that you have much of that in the us.

>>

>>
>>1492555
>look at my french awards fallacy of 15 years back

Fox News told you about the specifics in this case? Fact of the matter is, in most cases USA does not win competitions for international cheeses. When they do win prices, it is generally for cheeses that are only made in US, possibly UK. Look at the winners year by year. You can google this in 30 seconds, but your shitkicker pride will prevent you from presenting the findings here. Now fuck off to bible-study.

Op here. Haven’t posted since the original post and my first response. Just woke up in Tuscany and it’s still poor. Everyone in this thread who thinks I’m poorly educated or not very well traveled is suffering from major cope. Why are Europeans so sensitive about being poor?
>>
>>1492703
Why are you so poor? You can't even afford to go to more expensive places.
>>
>>1492703
8 US states have a lower GDP per capita than Tuscany. I do not have the PPP numbers though. I guess that in many states you would have to suck cock if you got an unexpected medical bill (and all that fellatio would in turn lead to more medical bills, but I digress). Socialised medicine also affects the PPP, so Tuscany is actually quite rich in comparison to at least 25 US states if you factor in that aspect (not that you yourself is actually intellectually able to factor in any modifiers to GDP per capita PPP).

2/10 trolling. You got a thread out of it tho.

Do you realize that the capitals of food in Italy are not Rome and Venice, right? Do you realize that every Italian city has its own cuisine and that you can not eat lasagne alla bolognese in Rome or risotto in Napoli, right? Do you realize that the best restaurants are in the countryside because that's where you can find the raw material, right? Do you realize that the Italian food you tried in Australia is not Italian food unless it's made with authentic products, right?

I may change my mind if i am faced with compelling credible facts that support the contrary point of view.
Taste is so subjective that wine experts can mistake white wines for reds when food coloring is added.
The world is a complex place and its best not to take anything for granted.
>>
>>1492877
you're an interrogatory chap aren't you
1. yeah hence the disclaimer about Rome being shit for food.
2. yes i do realise and did enjoy regional cuisine.
3. yes hence 2.
4. no i didn't realise that italian products are somehow unique, parmesan is parmesan, regardless of whether it comes from parma/reggio. this thought applies to (most) foods unless they have a manufacturing process that can't be exported or copied. mind you, i do like 'authentic' food, it's just that usually its EU marketing
>>
>>1492899
Not the guy you are talking to but
>parmesan is parmesan, regardless of whether it comes from parma/reggio

>>
>>1492955

>>
>>1492928
what would the proof look like, might I ask? What, in other words, are the conditions under which the claim that 'The difference between parmesan and "parmesan" in a blind test will be imperceptible' would be true? Well you and I can see the conditions under which they would be true. Nobody is asking people to taste the same cheese to look for differences, because that's mad and a waste of time. The real burden of evidence is on the person would claim that parmesan doesn't taste like "parmesan".
