What's your unpopular traveling related opinion?
>>
>>2661462
No matter how hard you cope, try to pretend you're not, deny, you're still just a tourist.

Traveling doesn't automatically make you open minded :0
>>
>>2661463
I've lived in the same country for 5 years, speak the language at a conversational level and have basic language skills for two other countries in the area. We aren't the same you 7 days holiday a week faggot
>>
>>2661467
Case in point!
>>
>>2661462
A transit stop counts as visiting that country. You are within its borders and subject to its laws so yes, you have been to that country. Applying arbitrary bullshit like
>ERM WELL YOU HAVENT TRULY BEEN TO A COUNTRY UNLESS YOU DID ___ TOURIST ATTRACTION!!!1!!
is fucking dumb and makes no sense.
>>
>>2661467
Ok, tourist
>>
>>2661465
Good, an open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded.

Sometimes, I actually like going to corny, touristy things, and I am tired of pretending to not. Like Times Square. They're corny and touristy for a reason.
>>
There is nothing wrong with being a tourist.
There is nothing wrong with eating fast food in a foreign country.
>>
>>2661462
most of the world is a third world shithole and not worth visiting. literally the video of Mac planning a cruise is accurate.
>>
>>2661494
I like touristy places because I feel less lonely and out of place there. It's a respite after trying for so long to pretend that you know where you're going and what you want.
>>
It should actually be illegal to board children under the age of 5 on planes for non-essential travel.
>>
>>2661465
Don't be so open minded that your brain falls out!
>>
>>2661602
he said unpopular opinion
>>
>>2661467
You're an immigrant
>>
>>2661463
What's even there to deny, anyway? If I was being questioned by the police or border security, the first thing I would tell them is that I'm a tourist. I'm not a student, I'm not a resident, I'm not doing business, and I'm not working. By standard legal definition, I am a tourist. Terms like "wanderer," "explorer," or "adventurer" are meaningless.
>>
I think India is a terrible country (very popular opinion), but I think it's still an essential travel destination (unpopular opinion). If you can survive a trip to India, you can survive anywhere. I also feel the same way about Morocco and Egypt.
>>
>>2661492
I guess I'm not listening to music right now, because I'm not doing it legally.
>>
>>2661698
I lived in India for years and genuinely love the place, so I can't agree with you there.

(of course, I do understand why some people don't like it)

Having said that, my unpopular travel opinion--which isn't entirely related--is that Egypt really isn't that bad (if you're a man). I think a lot of the complaints come from it being a very popular tourist destination that seems more accessible to Westerners. Many people go there on Babby First's Trip to a Third-World Country, and end up shocked when forced to confront the frustrations of visiting a real third-world country--like beggars, touts, and piles of trash.

In my experience, though, most Egyptian beggars just leave you alone if you either ignore them or speak a few words in Arabic. It isn't that much worse than Thailand. And at lest most Egyptians won't try to grab your cock and balls if you tell them you're not interested in what they're selling.
>>
>>2661723
>Egyptians won't try to grab your cock and balls
Reason no.241 why Thailand mogs
>>
Travel is for fun, enjoyment, and most of all for yourself and yourself only. If you visit a shithole (opposite of fun, or you have such shit taste shitholes are the only places you visit) you should stay there and never come back
>>
>>2661723
> I’m Indian
Ok
>>
>>2661462
Hmm, I suppose my unpopular opinion would have to be that I don't like gays. Or blacks.
>>
>>2661901
That's a very popular opinion in 4chan. Also, it has very little, if not nothing to do with travel.

Unpopular opinion: Philly's skyline may be the most beautiful in the world. I know its kind of a weird opinion, I just think its incredible to have a city that has a near 360 degree interesting skyline, if you are at the Rocky Statue you see a mix of inspiration and modern gorgeousness, the river gives an entirely new look (pic related), from the east from the west, its all different, from the Liberty Bell its even good.

I am addicted to how gritty and ugly Philly is yet with these majestic skyscrapers that still goes perfectly with the vibe and color palette of the city.
>>
1. Thailand is overrated and barely worth it unless you're up for sex or medical tourism, especially Bangkok and Pataya are just worth skipping compared to what you get anywhere else. Some of the islands are great but you get more out of your money somewhere else.
2. Paris is totally worth if you travel for food and/or culture
3. Bratislava is a way underrated destination especially for low budget travelers, hit it up as well as Breno.
4. Chile is a paradise if you're into nature and /out/ things, don't skip it
5. Africa has some fantastic places that aren't shit. Don't be afraid to go to Namibia, Ethiopia, Botswana, Kenya or if you're used to some shit (Cambodia tier) Tanzania. They're great.
6. Montenegro, it got hit by brits recently but it still has so much beauty from beaches to /out/ stuff and you can always find a AirBnB on a bums budget.

That's it for my rant.
>>

>how gritty and ugly Philly is
What shocked me is how these locals take pride in how their streets are filthy and literally covered in trash. “You think walking around an open sewer is gross? Toughen up, snowflake!”
At least on the West Coast we have the sense to be ashamed of it
>>
>>2661462
There's no reason to tour a country with a similar culture to yours. You're literally just doing the exact same things that you could do in your own city, never mind your country. Maybe an exception for Euros who can get to a different country in an hour, but you should really go someplace exotic like Kenya or Tajikistan.

air travel has gotten better in the last thirty years
>>
>>2662753
It depend what you define by "better". For the same price adjusted for inflation you get a better experience, a lot more travel destinations and direct destinations. But flying is 3-4 times more affordable than before but at that price you get a worst experience, less comfort, more cramped.
>>
>>2662689
This. It's actually one of the few legitimate reasons to travel.
>>
>>2662689
Please tell me that’s an actual woman, it’s so hard to tell with asians
>>
>>2662761
except its really not. people were complaining about these exact things in the 90's too, and the reality is the food has gotten better, the seats are more comfortable, in-flight entertainment leaps & bounds better and the routes have gotten more direct.

I think you can lament the replacement of the 747, homogenization of fleets in general and the loss of some legendary airports (Tegel, Kai Tak) as evidence of air travel losing some SOVL. and yeah honestly that's not for nothing, its lost its sexiness. but other than that, and the security theater which is nowhere near as bad now as it was 20 years ago, this is such a dramatic improvement in every other way.

and then there is the safety aspect, which is nothing short of a miracle considering where we were in the 90's

Traveling to a shithole Sub-saharan African nation or a repressive Islamic nation is a shitty experience, and all you're doing is funding their shitty governments with your tourism. As a White man not going for a business, religious, humanitarian purpose, you're only going for 1 of 3 reasons:
1. Seeing people in shithole conditions makes you feel better about your situation and you get an emotional boost by seeing others worse off while pretending you learned more empathy. (Social media posts too).
2. You're there for sex tourism (especially child sex tourism)
3. You want to visit every country.
It is not traveling for fun like it is for 1st world or even second world countries. It's for one of these reasons.

New Zealands an utter shithole. Parts of the South Island are good ski fields are good but the North Island is just a cespool. Australias better value for money.

You're never too old to stay at a hostel. You don't have to socialize with other hostel guests.

There is nothing wrong with your choice of accommodation. Whether it be a hotel, hostel, motel, luxury resort, capsule hotel, guesthouse, couchsurfing, Airbnb, it doesn't actually matter.

New Zealand is unironically the biggest tourist trap on Earth, if you are smart you will have a life changing experience but bro, if you don't know what you are doing its like a third world version of driving around Cape Cod. You will feel so cheated just driving around North Island national parks and coastal cities. You gotta really dig in there to get the good stuff.

Nbs, I think it may have been my good upbringing or frequent visits to the local hippie commune but I cannot stand cities/dense population as a place of residence. public transit, car free spaces, mixed use development ("omg there were so many cafes and restauraunts!" etc.), liveliness as a result of the former things. usually the answer is that america is so bad at implementing these things that people immediately think it will bring crime (and has in some areas but those areas were shitholes regardless), or people have a false assumption that the size of the entire US is a reason their specific city or town can't be like a european one (because america big), this also applies to canadians of course.
>>
>>2664504
I eat McDonald's in other countries for the sake of comparison. It's not like I eat it for every single fucking meal but what's wrong with finding the quirks in how other countries serve their goyslop?

The best McDonald's I've had was easily in Thailand and the worst was easily Turkey. Do you think I didn't eat anything else while I was in those countries? Of course I did. And now I have a point of comparison that can be brought up in casual conversation.

Or then they stare silent for ten seconds, or call you names like a ten year old.
I dont mind dating girls at all but lesbians wont do and disrespectful woman is no way in hell scenario. Ive seen at least two lesbian couples of girls just holding hands and kissing, they were playing Queens Bohemian Rhapsody at their balcony and rude as fuck too. You know man, i came here once with high hopes and im leaving thinking i shouldve bought an army to march everyone into labour camps instead. Because if you dont do that, haha fuck you wooooo bitch. Funnily enough now fast food least here in America is no longer as cheap as it use to be so it might actually be cheaper now just to eat local only I guess it depends on the country.

I'm also one of the people that doesn't travel for the food experience more so just to see stuff and interact with interesting locals.

>fast food
Some countries have food stalls and they make it fast. Hence fast food. So long as you're not talking about going to another country just to eat some chain shit like McDonalds from your home country. They're not even good.

Urban dwellers are universal. It is one of those things that when you dwell in a warren you're attitude becomes vermin like. When you dwell in the country, your behaviour becomes more casually social.

>lower/working class
The class system is such an urbanite obsession. Seems to eat into their social status obsessed minds. Like perpetually living in some teenage status drama.

Anybody who mentions $brandName from a publicly traded company is a programmed mindbroken NPC shill who you should be wary of.
>>

Please, share some examples. Don't skimp on the vitriol.

People who ask about huge fast food chains while traveling are neo-colonists who provide 0 value to locations where they travel to. They create demands and build hype for abhorrent corporations which extract profits and destroy the aesthetic and culture of local areas, leaving only low quality jobs of 0 responsibility in their wake.

Same goes for tech. If people mention brand names, they're more than likely vapid shells of people who care for images more than substance, and most likely have 0 of value to say.

If you're judged by brands of clothing or fashion by anybody, or anybody starts bragging about their corporate '''luxury range''' items, again, somebody who's been mindbroken by elites and probably has 0 to say.

In short, the amount of brands from publicly traded corporations which a person drops in
a day correlates pretty well to the quality of their spoken output. The amount of times they say "I" works well here, too.

I know this is a digression. Another simple issue I see around is when a foreigner complains about the inconvenience of paying a little extra for a commodity in one place then proceeds to compare it to another (often previously visited) adjacent country. Not understanding that not every place has the same access nor necessarily needs to.

As an example. An American visiting a small country town on an island, complaining about the costs of something simple like a phone cable or adapter in one shop and then proceeding to tell the shop owner that it is so much easier and cheaper to buy these things in another nearby country - irregardless of the factors of imports and footfall. Yet somehow, they don't consider that as a factor. It can be absurd.

>When you dwell in the country, your behaviour becomes more casually social.
and by this it means you become retarded, ignorant and content and you form local cliques and shun others in the community if they don't fit in right away or have an iq above 90

t. has family living in rural areas

>retarded, ignorant and content
Much appreciated, this assertion proves my point about the urbanite mentality.

We all realise that keeping an open-mind is one thing, but desensitization and letting any shit into your mind is just the other side of the coin.

>local cliques
Yes, as mentioned, you are more casual socially. Pick a few people you give a shit about. Hell is other people, the more people the deeper the circle you fall into

>t. has lived both in urban and rural environments for equal lengths of time.

Cities fulfill a certain role, like vermin generally do. Mostly living off detritus.

Only attractive women should worry about traveling alone. I don't think ugly women are at risk of being raped or trafficked.

Joking aside, it is interesting how almost no one disagrees with this take. Even my far-left feminist cunt of a sister absolutely refuses to visit India, even though it triggers her when I make fun of Indians.

I live here and that sums it up perfectly. I feel bad for tourists that fly into Auckland and plan to "explore" the North Island.

For peak NZ you really need to head South and plan some hikes or other outdoor stuff.
