Why no Seoul or South Korea thread? Has South Korea become less popular to visit since the 2010s?
It's actually an awesome place to visit and it's nice it isnt overrun
Since when was South Korea ever a popular place to visit? It's like a southeast asian country but with shitty people.
>>2709021>not as soulful and culturally interesting as Japan>not as fun and food not as good as China>people not as kind as Taiwangive me one reason to visit this place
>>2709023half truth, but really its a soulless country and culture with plastic people and the worst characteristics of the east and west. i hate how their cutesy kslop aesthetic has taken over all of asia
>>2709021South Korea is booming right now and is filled with tourists, but from a very different demographic than this board. The sexpats don't go there because the girls are not easy and the actually attractive ones speak zero English. The people who want to see muh temples don't go there because few remain in Korea after the countless wars. The weebs don't go there because for some reason they think that supporting Korea somehow goes against their beloved country of Japan (despite the fact that every young Jap goes to Korea at least once a year for holiday). The food is not popular enough in the west to have a large following. So this leaves mostly kpop fans.
>>2709117Even if you don't think that Korea is best at any of those things, it does all of them quite well.Korean temples are underrated and there are many cool historical buildings to see, quite different from Chinese/Japanese architecture. The food is fantastic and quite underrated. Korean bbq is becoming a meme worldwide now but there are hundreds of other things to try that many people are sleeping on. The people are friendly and fun. It's easy to get friendly with randoms and end up drinking all night together. Nightlife is really fun and Seoul stays up pretty much 24/7. Girls are also very cute and fashionable. It's just a cool destination, that's all.
>>2709127Apart from this>South Korea is booming right now and is filled with tourists, but from a very different demographic than this boardEverything you said is completely wrong, really quite incredible.
>>2709021Winter climate in Korea is shittier than most of America. There's a reason you see Korean tourists all over Southeast Asia...their country is a place to escape, not a place to escape to.
>>2709117Just visited this summer and agree with all of this except the bit about food. There's outstanding food to be found in China for sure, but Korea has them beat. And I wasn't even a big fan of Korean food until I went there.
I plan to stay in Seoul for a few nights as a prelude to my vacation in Japan, not sure what to do there yet other than watching live rock music in Hongdae. Are the meme tours to the DMZ worth it? Bukhansan looks pretty nice, too. >>2709252Can you recommend some dishes?
>>2709252Korean food is all just fermented trash with haphazard spices. It's easily the wordt in Asia.
>>2709266>Can you recommend some dishes? Not a 'dish' but the Koreans make a rice wine called Makgeolli that's similar to Nigori sake. I liked it so much I got a recipe and am planning on making my own. Food-wise I'd try a little of everything. There are a lot of traditional, hole in the wall kind of restaurants that specialize in a particular dish. e.g. they only make ox tail soup, they only make dumpling soup, etc. and strive to be the best at whatever they make. These were the most outstanding in my experience. Of course, the BBQ is a must.
>>2709267Spoken like a man who has never set foot in the country. So far I've visited Japan, China, Taiwan, and South Korea. All of these countries have great food, but Korea ties with Taiwan for first in my book.
>>2709127>So this leaves mostly kpop fans.Kpop fans? Picrel.
I heard Koreans are kind of stand offish and not very warm or easy to chat with. Is this true? My friend went and said everyone gave him the cold shoulder. Usually he has no trouble making friends in countries. I'm wondering if it was just a fluke.
>>2709352Koreans don't tolerate white dorks. They protect their women.
>>2709352nyc metro = people dancing, blaring music, being loudtokyo metro = polite conversation but you see charactersseoul metro = dead silence most of the timeThat's not just because you're a foreigner though, that's just how the culture is
I am travelling there next month. Best places in Seoul to meet people? What am I in for as a 6 foot not completely ugly looking white guy?
>>2709361cold shoulder. people don't speak english. you will spend time alone.
>>2709352Koreans are quiet during the day but it's one of the easiest place to chat with people when drinking. There's not so many good bars but you can literally just talk to people on the street in a nightlife area, they are very friendly.
>>2709361/trv/aznmasculinity posters dont want you to know this but i was approached by attractive young women at a rate much higher than anywhere else i have ever been to and im only 5ft 11
>>2709358ah yes, the metro, the most common place to mingle and interact with people
>>2709101>It's like a southeast asian country but with shitty people.Kinda agree. South Koreans are absolutely worst. Why are they such assholes ? I went Seoul one time. Checked in with hotel, put all of shit in my room and went out for a drink. Hotel receptionists recommended me to go to Gangnam or Itaewon. I went to Gangnam because it's the nearest. I was like "Alright, i'm here. Let's get a drink." went inside and fucking owner asked me in English "Where you from" I said "I'm Thai-Japanese, so i'm from both. Just take your pick." Motherfucker kicked me out and said "I hate Japanese" and yapping about some shit in Korean language. Also, this is not related the drink thing. Some of them gave me some sort disgusting look at me or "I'm higher than you" kinda look. A bunch of fucking assholes. Never go back to shit hole again after that. Good thing i only went there for a week.
>>2710059yeah I think Koreans like foreigners except other asians. they hate other asians, for good reason I suppose. they are the bitch of east Asia.
>>2709361Itaewon to break the ice, Thursday Party is where a lot of people hang out. After that write down some names of places and go explore, gangnam is good.>>2709021Most people going to Seoul/Korea expect Japan 2.0, it's not really Tokyo or Osaka/Kyoto. It's way more like Nagoya or Sendai in terms of Asian city. Korea's tourism advertising department is dogshit compared to other countries that it's really sad. It takes a fair amount of effort break into the events and social structure, most of which 4chan anons aren't going to bother with. Koreans can be extremely fun if you put the minute level of effort to learn about their country and culture outside OH YEAH DATS THE DMZ PLACE! Speak some bad korean to break the ice then realize Koreans know way more Japanese than you think
>>2710109>Thursday Partylast time I went there was pre-coof so maybe things have changed but the Koreans there were literally all weird-looking gaijin hunters while the (MANY) foreigners there were 50% fat incel types and 50% suspiciously attractive white males (models?)anyway, not the best place, but can get smashed easily
>>2709489shut up white dork, koreans are the karen of Asia.
>>2709127I matched with a chick within 10 minutes of landing. I fucked her a couple hours later. It was seriously the easiest lay of my life. The whole time she was calling me awkward and autistic but demanding I cum inside her.
>>2710147>>2710147>(MANY) foreigners there were 50% fat incel typesthey're kpop fans.
>>2710160>and then i woke up in mah mum's basement
>>2710147The point being made here anon is if you've never been to Korea it is a starting point. It's better than nothing and people there are willing to share other places they know. I wouldn't go there more than once or twice but it's the safest place to start in Itaewon
>>2710059have you tried just being white?
>>2709127being white is the ultimate cheat code in korea. My God I love being white.
>>2709357>They protect their women.Kek. Spend just one evening in Itaewon and count the number of Korean women getting hauled off back to the barracks or to a love hotel by black American military apes and try typing that again. To answer your question OP, it's because Korea is the most soulless and plastic nation this side of the hemisphere, nothing but up-jumped farmers and bumpkins who were lucky enough to have the US decide to use their country as a staging ground against China. The people embody the worst of Asia in terms of manners and hivemindedness, while at the same time being a corrupt capitalist theological shithole the likes of which could give any big Western city a run for its money.
>>2710159good news dork hater, im looking into a revisit sometime next year. also i issue a correction because i came across a medical test document that states that i am 5ft 10 and not 5ft 11, it's so (not) over
>>2710536for me it was homo hill, right anon?
>>2710059Even the worst Japanese with their anti-gaijin attitudes are preferable than seething Parks who hate everyone and everything. Fun fact: the word "thank you" doesn't seem to exist in their shitty language. As bad as Chinese but they don't get enough flak for it.
>>2710435i'd say maybe 1% of koreans are open to doing anything beyond straight-up ignoring a white foreigner. maybe they'll do some awkward talk out of politeness.
>>2709393Chinese are the same way, stuck-up and straight-faced without booze and your best friend when they are drinking.
>>2710536Don't Korean women have a reputation for being the coalburners of Asia?
No clue what people are saying about Korean's being hard to date, generally they are only shit if you are working there as some low level mutt like an English teacher or jarhead. When I visit for work, I always notice a positive tone shift when I explain I work in the USA but sticking around for some tourism. Just by explaining I work in tech and my job allows me travel is enough to take a fairly interested date into nearly impossible to fuck up said date.
>>2710435>>2710436there are a lot of bars and places in korea that are not open to whites either. it's korean-only, especially the whorehouses.
>>2710631Dawg what. They have many words for thank you and if you watch any interaction in public it's being said many times with a mini bow.
>>2710773Whites don't need to pay for sex in Korea kek
>>2710766white guys get the ugliest asian women, it's not exactly a secret
>>2709128what foods do you recommend? Outside of like BBQ and Bibimbap? m8 and I going for spin in Seoul och Pusan soon.
>>2709117>>not as fun and food not as good as ChinaWhat? I hated most of the food in China. But to be fair Beijing and Northern Chinese food isn't interesting when compared to Southern Chinese food. While I was in Beijing I ended up mostly eating at Afghani restaurants.
>>2710612you're gross. stay inside ur country n have paid sex.
>>2712596no
I live in Busan. I like Korea enough to live here for the next couple years happily. Has its quirks and isn't perfect but I've been here a few months and generally had a good time.Koreans are definitely very superficial, but they're not all bad. Sharing a drink with a group of dudes can be fun. Girls tend to be very reserved in person but if you match with them on an app and take them on one date they will immediately fuck you on the second, like some weird unofficial rule. You don't have to speak any korean and many of the horniest hookup apps are thinly disguised for "language exchange.">>2711509Kimchi jjigae is one of the absolute best. It's a kimchi stew with pork and tofu in it.A lot of people love gimbap, which are their rolls that look like sushi, but instead of fish it's almost all steamed veggies with steamed egg and maybe a tiny bit of boiled meat if you're lucky. I'm not a fan.Barbecue is also incredibly varied. My favorite place I've found only does pork, but they circle it around the upper rim of a giant wok, then fry kimchi in the fat that runs down into the center. It's unbelievable. They eat a shitload of fish in every form possible, especially in Busan. Their raw fish is called hoe (pronounced like "hway") and in many of the markets you can literally pick a live fish, watch an old lady chop its head off, then take it upstairs and have them turn it into hoe immediately. I've also tried live octopus (not really alive, just moving) and live fucking shrimp (REALLY alive, even my local friend had never seen it before - they stripped the shell off the middle and we just bit right into it, it flailed around and made eye contact with me as it died). If you can find a regional dish call nakgopsae, it's probably my favorite thing I've tried. A spicy stew made of octopus, beef intestine, and shrimp. Anything with octopus in it is delicious here - stew, ramen, stir-fried.
How do I move to Korea? I'd like to live there for a year or two.
>>2712702There are obviously a shitload of english teachers, but you will make no money even by Korean standards and everyone will look at you like unskilled trash, because you would be.I've met some expats who've been here much longer (ten plus years) and they all have oddball stories. Most started with college, learned the language, then fell into strange jobs like hosting foreigner radio shows or doing translation work. Thing is that salaries here are so low you can get by without making much money, but if you stay here too long, moving back to the west would leave you broke - expats in their 30s sometimes can't go back, they'd be nearing middle age with no savings and no applicable experience. I've met like three American girls who are almost 40 and act like they love their shitty middling jobs here but you can tell they're stuck and don't really know how to dig themselves out.If you want the best option, be a burger and find a way to work for the US government here. You can live like a king on an American salary and you'll never have to worry about visas or anything. USAJobs probably has some positions. I am unironically here as a glownigger.
>>2712702There is a Digital nomad visa that allows it, though you're subject to some korean tax+dealing with whatever home tax if not exempt or company just lol'ing at you. Go for the 180 days allowed, only book 90 though Korea is a love or hate place. It's probably the most polarizing country to discuss about for most travelers from what I've found.
>>2709021Went for a week a couple months ago. In that time I was inducted into some stupid cult, stood up by one girl and ghosted by another a couple hours before our meet.Did manage to shag one tho. I accidentally rawdogged her in pronebone and came inside ball deep. She had to get plan b the next morningthat's my story. Only really worth going to see the DMZ desu, I shan't be going back.
>>2709021I have visited the country twice over a period of 1 month each time, honestly it was what I imagine Japan was like years ago before it was over run with tourists, that being said, the country is really small, "only the size of the state of Indiana" I hit every major attraction and tourist spot, and once I did that I felt like I had my fill of the country. It is an interesting place no doubt if you have never visited before, but not really worth more than 2 solid trips there, you just eventually run out of unique things to see and do there after a while.
>>2710159Karens are actually great lays
>>2712738>It is an interesting place no doubt if you have never visited before, but not really worth more than 2 solid trips there, you just eventually run out of unique things to see and do there after a while. This is very accurate to my take as well, sure it's fun but after you've hit all the spots you realize how everything is the exact same shit. I don't know how to describe it as other countries seemingly don't have this issue.I can revisit Finland, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, etc. Often find something new or an event that popped up; Korea just doesn't have that. It's like OOO let's go to the mall again... for ... walking around...The ice on the wound and what kills me from recommending it is how fucking absolute bullshit trying to do anything without:1) Physically being in Korea to book something due to their shit firewall stuff so some sites will just constantly error2) Can't do anything unless you use shitty app that also won't work without KR phone number and be in said country3) Need an ARC(alien registration card) to do some event, concert, festival ticket purchases or gamble the fuck out of it guessing if you can get it there with a CC, but not VISA! has to be some stupid Korean bank shit sometimes4) Some events basically have 0, and I mean 0 promotions outside of Line App or some other useless social media only available to Koreans and known about it.That said, I got some time booked there coming up very soon but only because I made friends who pointed out a bunch of events and things to do, while getting an airbnb for ~200/mo full apartment.
>>2712746Yeah you know what I am talking about, like Japan and some of those other places in Europe you mentioned definitely warrant multiple trips because there is waay more to do overall, yeah Korea is surprisingly restrictive with stuff like that, even with their transportation and maps, you have to use Navar maps, Kakao shit, there because they don't allow google maps, Korea is very Korea centric, there is the way Korea does things and then the rest of the world, they really don't care how anyone else does certain things because Korea numbah 1, it was things like that after my trip where I was like uuh ok I am good here.
>>2712701>hookup apps are thinly disguisedwhat app is this?
Me and this Mexican chick doing the englishteacherlol in the K country were coming out of Lotte Sky tower looking for a taxi and got the foreigner treatment3 cabs dissed us till finally the 4th one took pity and picked us up. I wasn't even mad, it's their country, their rules. I asked her if they had cancel culture, woke, lgbt shit and she said they laugh at that shit, Koreans are turbo chuds and if them, chinese, and japanese all hate each other what does that leave for the rest of us?Really makes you think
>>2710973Just got back from Japan and the amount of white dudes I saw with absolute local wilderbeasts was quite a confirm
Korea was dope but only because I had a Korean guide, showing me the best local food, translating, navigating train/subway etc. And baseball is on another level, not even a sports fan but damn the energy, cheer leaders, chants, water cannons, crazy antics etc. And Soju, I'm hooked! Don't know if I would go there if the company wasn't footing the bill but there is a ton of cool stuff and culture.

>>2713677That means Bharat is chad central
>>2713632>>2713633Are gender relations in Korea that fucked? I knew a lot of Korean men were incels and a lot of Korean women were feminists but I didn't think it was that bad
>>2713633I had this girlfriend for two years whose younger sister (late teens) was into k-dramas and really wanted to date a Korean man. This is definitely true now at least some of the time amongst zoomers. She ended up losing her virginity to an incredibly jacked vietnamese dude who could barely speak a word of english but had a sports car and tried to talk to me about the Wolf of Wall Street for some reason. So I guess things are looking up for r/aznmasculinity zoomers you just gotta find slightly geekier girls. She was decent looking too but kind of an odd bird

Also birth rates will naturally go up again when housing becomes abundant and cheap and pensions decrease to the point where having children is the only viable way to not starve when you are old.
>>2714858Mass euthanasia of unproductive oldfags who modern medicine has allowed to continue hogging up valuable resources far beyond their viable years. Why devote my money and time to the ordeal of raising children when I could be spending that money and time enjoying hedonistic pleasures instead? This consumer spending does wonders for GDP, but it is anathema to family values. You'll hear the same old disingenuous refrain from workers in every affluent country on earth...>We can't afford to have kids...because we want to hit the bars and clubs every weekend, dine out every evening, take luxury overseas vacations three times a year, drive a new car, buy new furniture and countless other luxury items, etc.

Quite honestly I have a poor image of South Korea because of the rampant materialism and general globohomo Amerimutt dicksucking that they do on a constant basis, plus South Korean travelers I've met abroad have generally been insufferable and nasty. That said I'm still open to having my mind changed, plus I want to visit the DMZ, and since I'm currently living in Asia I think a trip to South Korea is inevitable in my future. Is there anything worth visiting outside of Seoul? Busan perhaps? I'm white.

>>2715411Food: the neighbourhood markets are where it is at. Mountains and mountains of things to try or buy. Busan had some good ones including Gupo and Bujeon. Fashion is Seoul. The vintage clothes markets are well known and well posted about.Cities: Busan is great, but I also rate Yeosu and Jeonju. Yeosu was site of Expo a few years ago and has a good harbour area packed with restaurants. There are some nice temples shortly outside of town. History: head to Gyeongju. Huge burial mounds from the Shilla Period. Its Unesco heritage. Gambling: Any Lotte hotel has a casino that only accepts foreigners. In Busan I used to go to Seomyeon one a lot. Bring your passport to get in. Drinks were free while you are at the table. It was fun watching the Japanese businessmen blow fortunes at roulette while chatting up dealers.Hanging with locals: post up at some of the cafes. There are loads in a lot of cities. The beach side ones in Pohang are pretty cool as well as in Busan. Look up language exchanges to meet up with local people. I ended up with some really good dates out of this. Some didn't lead to the romance explosion but it was hard to say no to getting shown out by a girl and her friends. A fun experience are the pool halls. A pocketless form of billiards is fun with either three or four balls depending on the style. You get points for doing combo hits. It is a popular guys night out activity. Holdem Bars are a thing. You pay for drinks which gives you chips. You can exchange the tips for more drinks or buy more drinks to get more chips.
I'm flying to Seoul in 2 weeks time. I'll be spending a month in South Korea, hoping to visit at least 6 different places. Any advice, tips or useful info for me? I've been all over SEA but this will be my first time in East Asia. Pretty sure I'm all set to go, don't need a visa or a K-ETA. Probably gonna get a sim card and t money card at the airport.
