Do you prefer clamshell or traditional for a personal item backpack while traveling?
24kg checked never used these, but I have a backpack
>>2724656>I have a backpackSo, clamshell or traditional?
>>2724661>So, clamshell or traditional?whatever a lojel cubo large is
>>2724663This thread is about backpacks, not suitcases. I'm asking about backpacks.
>>2724655It's not really important if you use packing cubes, zip pouches for tech stuff. You would keep a toiletry case at the top of the backpack if you're using a non-clamshell.
>>2724655I take a giant dufflebag with me. Mine also has backpack straps on it if i want to carry it that way. People give me all sorts of looks when I walk around with it since it's giant
This seems like a brilliant idea, but I'm kind of stuck with using my current and only traditional backpack I've used while traveling. Y'know, you find a system that works for packing and changing it will make you very confused as to where you put stuff.
I just travel with a 30l backpack and a smaller foldable one, which I use as a daily carry on once I'm settled in or if I need extra space. What's the point in carrying around so much shit unless you're doing photography or something specialised like rock climbing or extreme trekking? If I need new clothes I just discard the ones I don't need and replace them. Toiletries don't take a lot of space. I like that I can pick up my bag (only 6kg) and go wherever I want. No need to lug around shitloads of crap. I always laugh when I see young dudes like me staging in hostels with huge backpacks. I always ask how much of the stuff they're using and it's almost always just a fraction and they wished they had packed way less.
>>2724655Nothing screams you are an impoverished tourist like wearing a backpack. Say not to backpacks and hostels. If you are too poor for proper hotels and luggage, then you are too poor to travel.
>>2724837A backpack is essential when traveling, you elitist asshole. Even with proper luggage, you want a backpack or handbag to access your things while in flight? Are you one of those pricks that stands up and goes into the overhead bin every time you need something out of your carry-on?
>>2724863Are you a woman by any chance? The fuck are you going into your bag mid-flight for?
>>2724870Food, chargers, water, laptop, magazines, notebooks etc
>>2724875>Foodfat american issues, Airline will provide enough food for the flight length regardless>chargerscharge your shit beforehand retard>waterNo reason to bring your own water. Airline will provide bottled water.>laptopLmao you talk about being a fuck going through a bag mid-flight and yet you sit here talking about using a laptop? Fuck off. >magazines, notebooksWoman tier shit, also doesn't require a backpack.
>>2724655clamshell for traveltraditional for hiking
Is there any point in getting a good quality backpack or would it be fine to get something like the IKEA ones (STARTTID/VARLDENS) or even just something from Kmart? It's not like it'll see much abuse, just general day to day use (few kilo's at most) and as carry on (It'll be paired for checked-in so won't need high capacity).
>>2724963>It's not like it'll see much abuseIf you're traveling for a week or two once a year, any Kmart backpack would probably be fine and last you for years. But for an EDC bag that you're frequently accessing, or if you travel a few times per yer, go for the quality backpack.
>>2724837>>2724881Imagine having financial freedom and arbitrarily gatekeeping yourself.>I don't use a backpack because I'm not poor!>I don't eat food because only poor people eat>I don't charge my devices because only poor people use electronics>I don't bring my own water because the free water provided by the airline is somehow not for poor people>I don't read magazines because I've decided only women do thatA true King does whatever he wants.
>>2724837>hotels and luggageLMAO. Don't call other people poor without looking at the mirror. I don't bring luggage with me when I travel. My private villa is fully furnished, and if I'm missing anything, I get one of my assistants to fetch it for me. If you pay for a hotel, you ARE a rentoid.
>>2724881you've either never traveled on a plane for longer than 5 hours or you never traveled with kids or both
>>2724992Anon, no one here has traveled with kids. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy you're replying to isn't even legally allowed to be near kids.
>>2724987Woman>>2724992>longer than 5 hoursgo to sleep like a normal person with ear plugs in, doesn't require a backpack>or never traveled with kidsStop larping, you don't have kids let alone a wife.
>>2725125I agree, making up stupid rules and obsessing over luggage makes you a woman.
>>2724655If you use packing cubes there's not much difference
>>2726325TRUTH NUKEJUST USE ZIPLOC BAGSTHEYRE 1000% CHEAPER THAN >mUh PacKInG cUBes
Going on a week long trip in a few weeks and I need a new carry on. What should I look for?I want something that can carry laptop, clothes, etc. for one bag trips if necessary.
>>2726385Packing cubes are better sorry you can't afford $20 though
>>2726385the plastic bag crackling crunching sound
>>2726400>Waterproof>Laptop compartment>Fits your airline's carry-on limits
>>2726400Decathlon has tons of good travel backpacks in different sizeshttps://www.decathlon.com/collections/daypacks/products/quechua-nh-arpenaz-100-20-l-hiking-backpack-301674?variant=41201326620734https://www.decathlon.com/products/quechua-nh-arpenaz-100-30-l-hiking-backpack-301675?variant=40404216676414If you are a richfag, tom bihn synapse, techonout, or synikoptional: add a couple packing cubes for organizing and separating dirty/clean clothes, i would just order these off amazon
>>2726385ziplocks are really inferior compared to regular packing cubes. The only open at the top which makes it hard to pack, they get stuck to each other, they rip instead of stretch, they don't have a handle to pull them out of your bag or to carry and also packing cubes aren't that expensive so it's senseless.>>2726400>>2726517Literally any bag that has a laptop compartment. If it isn't waterproof, you can buy a rain cover for any size backpack and use it as needed.
>>2726385Protip: Buy real packing cubes and keep a ziplock bag inside the packing cube to separate the dirty and clean clothes.
>>2724655Do you mean Clamshell vs U-zip?Probably clamshell. My reasoning is that every clamshell can be used as a U-zip, but U-zips can never be used as a clamshell.
Saw this fool yesterday walking all over town visiting temples on the 6 kilometer walking course. backpack, front backpack, tripod case, rollie suitcase he was carrying and a neck pillow.
>>2726931But was it a clamshell backpack or traditional?
>>2726931lmao What the fuck, did he come straight from the airport or what? Most rational beings will leave their bags at their place of accommodation.
>>2727045if you are moving from one hotel to another a couple times during a trip you have to carry stuff, and since Japan has a lot of stuff all over the place people figure they'll change hotels every couple of days and forget they have to carry they're shit everywhere, why you only carry a backup or rent a car instead of making a rookie travel mistake
>>2726931Npc with error in his programming? This is just bizarre, even stranger that he has a female in tow putting up with it.
>>2727061Anyone have the original image of Moot carrying a girls luggage?
>>2727061>even stranger that he has a female in tow putting up with it.About 80% of couples I see when traveling are carrying this amount of luggage/stuff with them.
>>27270962 backpacks, a large box and wheeled luggage kilometers from the train station? The dudes making multiple newb mistakes,1. Carrying three times as much stuff as necessary 2. Not using lockers at the train station3. Carrying the woman's shit
>>2727128w-...were you stalking them?

How to pack.step 1 : Lay out everything you think you will need on top of the bed.step 2: Cut that in half.
Fuck personal items. A good quality 40L backpack is the best for solo zero planning zero checked luggage trips to busy metro areas. You don't want zippers or straps failing on you in the middle of a trip. You want something you can break apart if needed in a few minutes if size is ever an issue. Carry a small reserve material bag for this stuffed inside the 40L. It can be used for overflow or for day roaming after dropping off the 40. It's unlikely you will have any issues since a 40L fits in even the smallest storage compartments with a little tetris. Anything rigid is a problem. The only downside is something heavy on your back but it's good exercise if you have the strength and energy. Also a backpack is easier to deal with on the million flights of stairs, streets, public transport. Dump it in a small coin locker in a civilized country and you are free of it until checkin. Another benefit is easy access to everything inside compared to traditional luggage. Can pull out a sweater in a minute anywhere.
>>2727745they make backpacks with wheels too
>>2728847true but I just personally hate dragging shit on the floor. It tickles my autism wrong
>>2727745Just check your luggage $20 to $50 fee is worth it as a cheap luxury on flight day>inb4 wah wah wah I have to wait for it 5 minutes at the carousel
>>2728994the real problem is dealing with larger luggage after arrival. Can't just dump it in a coin locker for the day. Some public transit has restrictions and fees for it. Harder to get things out of it on the go. Can't easily fit in overhead or between your legs so you're stuck uncomfortably with it on trains etc
>>2729208If it's too much to carry then you packed too much junk.
