ok finished Body Snatchers
on one hand it feels really undercooked and the characters are one dimensional. on the other hand the special effects are cool, there's nudity, that awesome helicopter scene.
most confusing part is why they saved so much budget for blowing shit up at the end. surely that could have been put to better use.

I knew I guy that did this! He was a fellow art major/colleague obviously trying to make cnnections and get ahead and had my extremely talented babe of a best friend head over heels for him for months. I'm pretty sure he even mentioned being inspired by Scream at some point and how he wasn't psycho but "found murder so interesting" lmao. Completely un-self-aware John Mayer style pseudointellectual and obviously straight and would even try to flirt with me sometimes like a shameless buffoon and clearly used his "edginess" to get female attention. Everything i despised about that particuliar art scene and I hated his guts from almost the moment I met him and I eventually just didn't even try to entertain any ideas he babbled about, just always deadpan stared him down like i knew exactly what he was doing to intentionally make him uncomfortable and i honestly got a delightful kick watching him squirm as his previously successful tactics flopped. Felt shitty telling my friend about my doubts for him and she knew it too but you could tell she always hung onto this hopeless "what if" because of all the games this guy played until she finally had enough and dropped the guy.
One thing good that came out of it though was that imitating him became so much fun and pretty much the blueprint for my character if I'm trying to act the pretentious male artist stereotype and the accuracy makes people laugh.
>>
>>199992099
Why do they always cast white women?

Attempt two at posting this: (last time I tried was during a waifufag spergout. I still want to talk about this flick so I'm back)
...
In a Violent Nature hit my local theatres so I went tonight (Last Sunday). Just got back. (Not anymore) My friend was polite but I could tell he hated it. I liked it though, it was kind of neat how they fucked with perspective alone and made the standard slasherfag plot seem fresh. I liked that it was a bit autistic and self indulgent, even. I liked the minutiae of the killer putting down and picking up his weapons again and again, the extended ending showing the awkward aftermath of the action. There's some argument to be made that deconstruction or meta-analysis are inherently a bit reddit, but I liked it all the same. But it did feel "academic", more like an exercise in filmmaking than an actual film.

The 2000s killed the slasher genre. Slashers pre-2000 had soul, the slashers after that became overly serious and edgy. Look at the 2000s remakes of classic slashers like TCM and Friday the 13th for proof of this (What if a F13th movie.....but it's le grim and dark and edgy and Jason le tortures people n shiet!?)

The remake misses the point of the franchise. It takes itself too seriously and tries too hard to be edgy, it's like watching a slipknot music video. Why the fuck did they have Jason torture people and keep somebody held captive? He never did that in the old films.

Halloween is a rip off of a few Italian movies more than Black Christmas. Also F13 is quite literally, objectively, factually intended to be a copy of Halloween for profit. Sean Cunningham is pretty open about this, it's not an inference or opinion.

Most of the "Amityville" movies are not official Amtityville films using the IP. Amityville is just a generic word that anyone is legally allowed to put in their film's title. It doesn't really count.
Franchises like Puppet Master and Ring have tons of actually official movies.

Horror movies for this feel?
>>
>>200004435
Eh 2000s slashers aren't too bad. Some were cool like The Collector, Freddy vs Jason, Wolf Creek, Behind the Mask, and the Final Destination movies if those count.
The 2000s were imo the last decade where horror really did have soul. You could feel it draining away in the 2010s, now only the occasional release is fun and soulful.

Yeah the "Friday the 13th is a ripoff thing" is so outdated when "Halloween ripoffs" aka slashers became a genre with hundreds of other movies besides those two, and Halloween was heavily inspired by Black Christmas and gialli in the first place anyway just like Friday the 13th also was.

Good. Save yourself, anon.
2019 is not even horror in any way. It's literal feminist SJW wish fullfillment about killing all the men (who are of course all bad and sexist). I know I sound like a typical incel crying about women in action movies or some shit, but this movie doesn't give much room for interpretation.
It literally feels like something from a "write a movie about female leads in the current day" shitpost thread, except made completely unironically.
And before some cunt goes "horror was always feminist", there's a world of difference between Laurie Strode or Nancy Thompson and whatever the fuck this shit is.

I believe you. Even seen "lib" type people saying the messaging in the movie is obnoxious.

>>
>>200007364
NOES remake is bad, but didn't overtly push some agenda. That instantly makes it less shit than the Black Christmas re-remake. I'd take a completely pointless remake like with Psycho over that. Cabin Fever is almost agenda, as they just switched the genders of some characters and thought it would work. Other than that, it's also really pointless.
>>
>>200007477
>but didn't overtly push some agenda.
It pushes the agenda that the original is in any way bad and needed to be fixed or updated and didn't have enough CGI. The director hated the original and thought he was turning shit into gold.

You would think she would wall around age 25-30, so she can trap a dumb bf with marriage and then turn into an undifferentiated bag of flesh after, but no, she hit the wall before 25. (As will all of gen A) It's hilarious cause Nell will know 100% that whoever marries her will be a huge beta. Not sure what type of films she can star in now. Live love love part 2?

>>200015329
What do you mean? And what are your general thots? I'm watching tonight
>>
>>200015509
It's alright. I'm not a fan of the original Omen, I liked this better. Personally I always found The Omen to be the ugly sibling of the two hot twins that are Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist
The script isn't great, plot is structured around "big reveals" more than telling a compelling story, and that doesn't work out that good in a movie where the plot is predictable
Body horror is phenomenal. Camera work and editing are great. Acting is serviceable with a couple good performances. I liked it. 3/5
They completely retcon basically everything in the original except for the fact that Damian is the antichrist and adopted by the Thornes. His mother is no longer a jackal, it's a human woman who's the offspring of a Jackal fucking a human woman. The skeleton in the grave must have just been a fake lol. Father Brennan was no longer a reformed conspirator, he was now always against the antichrist and just failed to prevent his birth. Devil worshippers didn't cause Damian's birth, the Catholic Church did because they wanted to prove that the devil is real so that people would become religious again (I know it sounds retarded but imagine that plot in a good movie, it could work.) Also Damian has a twin sister.
>>
>>200015509
I typed out a long response to you but for some reason it didn't post. Basically they retcon everything aside from him being the antichrist and adopted by the Thornes.
It's an okay movie. I'd recommend it, but I didn't like The Omen very much at all so if I did it would probably irritate me more.

>>

The jackal is implied to be a fake in the original movie, they dig up the grave next to it and find the skeleton of ambassador's son

Also, it's made clear in the original movie that there are Satanists in the Catholic church, The First Omen just gives more context to their motivations.
