Diabolique is my favorite horror film from the 50s, so I'd recommend adding that to your list as well if it's not already on there. some people don't count it as horror tho, so just in case I'll recommend the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Curse of Frankenstein as well

Any zombie kinos that raise a moral conundrum around actually killing the zombies? I'm talking about questioning their human rights and all that. I think the idea was kind of spoofed at the end of Shaun of the Dead, but are there any movies where it's played straight?

Yeah, but that misses the whole point of giallo. Suspiria is the only entry level film any beginner needs. That and Salo, which isn't giallo but still... giallo is like porn while gore is like real sex. Its not supposed to make sense.

nta but technically 2023 films.
either way, something about the best films this year is sad because they all have some kind of glaring flaws that leave a negative taste. Romulus for example: great film in almost every way yet pointlessly pulled down by being a rehash.
All eyes now point to these as the last hopes:
>Terrifier 3
>Smile 2 (somehow)
>Nosferatu
I would list more but we know V/H/S Beyond and Frankie Freako aren't going to be masterpieces.

Finally finished up Saw 3D. Its still fun, but I think I ended up liking Saw 6 a lot more. The main game just was nowhere near as interesting as the early traps they set up. On the other hand, the parts with Hoffman were stupidly over the top but also really fun good end to his plotline and a fun way of bringing the series back full circle, but i do wish we could've gotten a bit more of Doctor Gordon.
A part of me is tempted to rewatch Jigsaw since I didn't really remember liking it, but I think I'll put it and Spiral on hold in favor of watching Saw X soon.

I just watched the original A Nightmare On Elm Street after about 5 years and it got me thinking. How would you do Freddy Krueger terrorizing a bunch of Gen Z teenagers? It's odd to me no new movie has been in development for over 15 years. Maika Monroe, Samara Weaving, Mike Flanagan and others have wanted to do one for years but it hasn't materialized. I'd love to see one made from the angle that Freddy was actually innocent but killed by the parents in an act of unjust vengeance and the kids didn't bother to stick up for him. It'd be a fresh new angle.

I watched The Mask with Jim Carrey then read a few issues of the original comic book and I feel like it's such a damn shame the original plans for the '94 film to be a horror slasher in the vein of Freddy and Jason went to hell when the director didn't care to adapt the comic books at all. Do you forsee Blumhouse or whatever picking this property up and making The Mask into a horror icon? The concept of a maniacal murderer who operates on cartoon physics would make for a great film. Within a reasonable budget.
>>

True lol but I really do think it would be a fascinating venture into horror. Obviously, you can't have a big budget but you can make his cartoony behaviour work with an over-expressive actor like Carrey and minimal CGI and/or digital trickery to display his powers. Make it like that Joker movie where Stanley Ipkiss is this mental loner who wants payback on the world for ignoring him all his life and he stumbles on that magic green mask. Put a few attractive teenagers as foil and you have a box office kicker. I thought of this the other day and it's such a fun concept, I might just write the script myself out of sheer fascination.

A sequel to FVJ. If the events of FVJ happen before Freddy’s Dead, a new sequel can slide in between FVJ and Freddy’s dead. If FVJ takes place after Freddy’s Dead then just a straightforward sequel.
