About to start watching pic related for the first time
When should I drop?
I heard later seasons are just bad
>>

>When should I drop?
After season 3 or 4
>>
>>215624266
Form your own opinion you worthless faggot
>>
>>215624266
Watch season 1, then read the wikipedia episode summaries for season 2 and 3, then watch 4, then just skip to resurrection and you can figure out what's going on yourself.
>>
Everyone's gonna agree that Season 8 is irredeemable. They'll argue over other seasons.

In my opinion season 7 is actually better than seasons 5 and 6, but the best seasons of the show are 1 and 2.
>>
Dont bother, just watch a recap on youtube
>>
>>215624266
Season 4 is the peak stop there. Don't watch any of the new seasons.
>>
Worth watching for 1st season to get acquainted;
Miguel season
3rd rock from the sun season

Alright, I will watch until season 4 and then youtube recaps
>>
>>215624266
>I heard later seasons are just bad
They're really not that bad. Five is meh. Six is pretty awful. Seven is good. Eight is meh but had potential. Nine is good other than the ending. 10 is good.
They're all worth watching imo.

>>215624936
Just watch the whole thing, for as long as you find you're enjoying it. There's no need to follow some weird doctrine about when you should drop it.
The worst Dexter seasons still have plenty of ironic entertainment value
>>
>>215624266
have you ever liked something contrary to popular opinion
>>
>>215624266
you'll really enjoy the first 2 seasons and probably marathon them. S3 may or may not keep your Dexterection up but S4 is a big fan favorite (pic related) and has a massive finale. then it's major ups and downs from then on out but most Dexter fans found it more or less entertaining to finish it off entirely plus reboots. I even read a few of the novels but they started to go totally off the rails lol.
>>
>>215625133
>novels but they started to go totally off the rails
This is a good thing, it makes the novels worth reading, because after the first book you're not just getting a rehash of the show you already watched

It kind of goes downhill from the start. First season is the best. Two and three still are okay. Then it becomes repetitive.
>>
>>215625155
that's true. IIRC Michael C Hall does some of the audiobooks or someone who sounds like him
>>
>>215625038
i feel like you can literally feel the quality drop off and when you feel like its right, stop.

for me it was somewhere after the lithgo trinity killer season which was probably its best by far, and when dexter literally started relearning the same lessons once again. when the going gets tough and he just gets going the same shit over and over it, oh brother, its awful
>>
>>215624266

You're in for a SURPRISE MUTHAFUCKA!
>>
>>215625038
>The worst Dexter seasons still have plenty of ironic entertainment value
absolutely. it's hard not to enjoy the later seasons as B-movie tier schlok even if you took it seriously before. Michael C Hall is captivating desu
>>
>>215625169
thats almost a negative because i think i wouldnt be able to picture anything but micheal hall in my head. book dexter is chubby schlubby guy, and hes cultivated that look because he figures no ones going to expect the clumsy chris farley lookin dude to be expertly commiting b&e's and murdering gang bangers without breaking a sweat.

hall STILL is the absolute perfect casting for tv dexter, but book dexters not tv dexter
>>
>>215625213
is he really? I don't remember that. Only schlubby fiction hero I can think of is from Radix
>>
>>215625213
imo they did a good enough job of adapting Dexter's personality in season 1 that it's easy to think of Book Dexter as still being the Hall version, despite the timeline diverging and him doing completely different stuff
>>
>>215625239
yea they did
>>
>>215625233
well, i was pretty sure. im googling it to double check and im not actually seeing anyone describing book dexter that way. i was pretty sure tho because i thought he explained it that way, that it was a better disguise and that made him a bit more pyschopathic/sociopathic than tv dexter. getting deliberately fat just to have better cover? he was still crazy fit, just i swear he had bulked up and had high body fat purely as a disguise.
its been like 10 years i think since i read the books so ehhhhhhh. but it IS why the first seasons so weird. the hiding in backseat of victims cars, putting a tourniquet around their neck, and forcing them to drive to the kill room was his MO in the books, and they ditched that after the first episode basically.

>>215625239
yeah, i remember liking it. the book goes a bit crazier and a bit more fantastical with the dark spirit stuff, but it worked in its own different way.
>>
>>215625317
i liked the Pizzagate gang novel. book 4 or 5 or something
>>
Watch season 1 and 11 out of 12 episodes of season 2, it will end on cliffhanger and you will be very tempted to know what happens next, but that's the exact moment it turns from kino to slop and the show never recovers from this, season 4 is also highly regarded by fans, but it's due to great villian performance by John Lithgow and memorable ending, not the overall quality, but I guess you could call it third best season, also not a great stopping point, because if you watch it you kinda have to watch first half of season 5 which deals with it's repercussions.

Newest season is also better than seasons 5-9 but it's nowhere near as good than the first two.

i still think its worth watching the john lithgow one even if you stop that early. just pretend its a fever dream of dexters that never gets resolved.
>>
>>215625333
honestly its been so long ive forgotten most of it, just remember some bits and generally enjoying it enough to seek out and finish them all. book doakes, oof. wasnt expecting that.
>>
>>215625391
Doakes didn't deserve it man.. Getting blown up was a mercy the TV Show did right
>>
>>215625409
i mean spoiler territory so if these spoilers dont work, dont read this but wasnt it extremely heavily implied that doakes was probably worse then dexter. it was never confirmed, but doakes was able to sniff dexter out so well because they both had a dark passenger, but book doakes wasnt "trained" like dexter. book doakes had like, 80-90 officer involved shootings where he was the "only witness", and it was implied he was just blasting perps without trial or proof just based on his gut? so he MIGHT of been killing bad dudes, but yeah, just "if he felt like they deserved it". again, its been fucking yonks since i read it, so i could be wrong. still seems like a shit fate, even for a possible high body count serial killer
>>
>>215625450
oh and lmao at book la guerta, how shes straight up just a ditzy moron bitch sleeping her way up the police department, and tries to fuck dexter. tv la guerta got a major character upgrade in comparison, wew
>>
>>215625478
Show LaGuerta behaves similarly to her book counterpart in season 1, she just gets 6 more seasons before dying in a similar way
>>
>>215624434
Resurrection was decent thoughbeit
>>
>>215625500
shit, maybe i need to reread them. i could sworn dexter called book guerta a straight up slut bitch in his head, but i just checked the first book and theres no instances of the word slut. well, i was still in highschool when i read it and that was like, 16 years ago.
>“That's not possible,” I said, although I knew it was possible, the brain-dead
bitch. LaGuerta, not Deb.
does call her a bitch tho, lel

for anyone curious it seems like you can just read the whole first book here online for free. this is the closest the book and tv show get, this book is pretty much season 1.

>>215624266
Seasons 5-8 are basically Game of Thrones 5-8 tier.
>>
>>215625213
>but book dexters not tv dexter
In numerous ways. Both are completely different desu and the series only stays somewhat close to the books for its first season.
>>
>>215624266
I like season 5 more than most, but after season 4 is a good cutoff. Season 6 and onwards is utter garbage, though the first half of season 7 is pretty good. But it's just not worth sitting through season 6 and the later half of season 7 in order to appreciate that first half enough.

In essence, stop after season 4 for an ending, stop after season 5 if you want an epilogue and hope for Dexter's future.
>>
What is wrong with you entitled, ADHD ridden faggots. Is it that hard to simply commit to watching a series and seeing it through? We all had to sit through the shit seasons of every show ever.
>>
>>215624266
Skip from season one episode one up to and including the finale and revival.
>>
>>215626105
>>215624266
i liked the ride the whole way through personally
>>
>>215626160
Me too even though it obviously dropped in quality and got really convoluted
>>
The moment you hear the name “hannah” mentioned, abort and skip directly to resurrection. Also skip season 5 in general, fucking barrel rape gang
>>
I like how Rita was clearly not supposed to die like that (it was supposed to be shown), but kike producers shat the bed so hard the actress literally never came back
>>
>>215626105
>We all had to sit through the shit seasons of every show ever.
Did you HAVE to, or did you just not have the sense to walk away from something that's no longer worth continuing?
>>
>>215624266
Watch the whole thing. Even the bad seasons were better than GoT's final seasons.
