What weapon is better? The P90 or Staff Weapon?
>>
staff weapon seems more fun. can use it as gandalf stick for trekking, you can do stick fighting with it and it also makes things go boom
>>
>>215625720
Weren't there staff weapons that are really big and function like an infinite use RPG?
>>
>P90
reddit gun
>>
>>215625849
What the fuck does that even mean?
>>
>>215625849
what's a 4chan gun then?
>>
>>215625720
the show commited a big blunder by not having the US army try to reverse engineering those staffs.
their biggest problems are poor handling and no aiming feature so military engineers could have fixed those problems pretty easily but more importantly, they could have made entirely new energy weapons by mixing human design and Goa'uld tech
>>
>>215625720
The show itself said staff weapons are meant to instill terror in the people the Goa'uld rule over whereas human weapons are designed to kill
>>
>>215625991
Staffs were shit they ran on liquid n aquadah that would run out quickly the zat gun was better and the plasma wrist weapon that Anubis' soldiers used were the best
>>
>>215626068
>liquid n aquadah
>A single vial taken from a staff weapon had enough energy to allow a Stargate to dial an eight-chevron intergalactic address from Earth. (SG1: "The Fifth Race")
yeah so no, it's actually crazy overpowered.
but another problem of the staff is that the energy projectil is too big and slow. this obviously would have to be modfiied and replaced with small but very fast energy "bullets".

You see staff weapons run out after firing about 8-10 times
>>
>>215625991
Do you think that they still look like american special forces in season 10 by accident? That they meant for the SGC to morph into the colonial marines from Alien but just forgot to make the new props?

Or do you think it was a deliberate theming choice?

dude, you do understand that things can be improved and changed right?

even then, if you just tuned down the power used by each shot and let's say you just use 10% to produce a small energy "bullet" instead of a big ass fireball, you now have 100 energy bullets from a tiny ass liquid bottle.
it's already way more convenient than a normal firearm magasine (lighter and no need to recharge every 30 bullets).
>>
>>215626139
I think the cost of having to use (even more) CGI everytime SG1 used their guns was the big problem for their budget.
>>
>>215626261
Most of the time they are shooting their guns, they are being shot at by someone with an energy weapon.
>>
>>215625720
>infinite ammo anti tank weapon
>remf gun with expensive ammo
>>
>>215626279
yeah but keep in mind the CGI for the staff is always the same (basic orange light ball) if SG1 had energy weapons too, you'll need a different effect to differenciate and also generally, there're a lot more close up shots (also longer shots) on SG1 than on the enemy so you'll need to have even more CGI because of that.

It's a generic insult. Like calling someone a nazi or an incel.

staff weapons for antivehicle. that shit was taking down fighter ships. p90 otherwise cause automatic weapons just dont exist in the gould mentality.
>>
>>215625720
Sam's stupid ass betamag quadrail ar she uses sometimes in big battles in later seasons.
>>
>>215626226
SGC has more practical applications for their limited supply of naqadah, like making reactors, than shooting it when P90s work well enough for a tiny fraction of the cost. They were working on their own plasma weapons for ships before the Asgard handed over all their tech though
>>
>>215625720
The staff weapon is a weapon of terror. It's made to intimidate the enemy. The p90 is a weapon of war. It's made to kill the enemy.
>>
>>215625720
staff weapon
>>
>>215626557
>SGC has more practical applications for their limited supply of naqadah, like making reactors, than shooting it when P90s
obviously, the first thing anybody smart would do is try to make more naqadah or something similar.
but all I'm saying is that in real life, the US army would 100% try to reverse engineer the staff and try to modify them into usefull weapons just to see if it's doable and worth doing
so yeah by season 2 or 3 tealc should definitely have had a customized staff with a red dot sight.
>>
They should've had a more noticeable tech creep throughout the show like xcom

guns that go pew pew are objectively not as cool as guns that go bang bang
that's why the prometheus is cooler than the deadalus and the unupgraded deadalus with railguns and missiles is cooler than the upgraded deadalus with faggy beams
>>
>>215625720
the p90 was a failed defense contract so a stick would have literally been better than trying to use it since no one mass produces ammo for it and its expensive AF
>>
>>215625849
dumbest thing ive read this week. its like saying queen or abba is a bad band because they became so ubiquitously popular and played everywhere that they seemed like normieslop. No, they were just really good and popular with everyone for good reason
>>
>>215625720
if you have soldiers that are expected to actually fight anyone the p90 is a retarded choice, the ammo is really weak.
>>
>>215627163
Who knows, might happen one day. Just look at Voyager, how many years has that show been over and its just about to get a new game released
>>
>>215625991
>by not having the US army try to reverse engineering those staffs.
They did do that but it was deemed that guns were better and literally just werked
>>
>>215626121
That small vial was not powering the intergalactic gate.
It was part of the ghetto ZPM that Jack built. The ZPM powered the gate not that small vial.

The FN P90 is literally one of the most overproduced guns in the world. It has a small frame, holds 50 armour-piercing rounds, has low recoil, a bottom release, and on top of everything it looks really cool.

Forget that, even the mere idea of a pro-military TV show would be a no-no. Honestly Stargate is probably the most HFY-adjacent TV franchise I can think of.

Though the SG team's general disregard for non-human and especially non-organic life makes my inner Star Trek fan clutch their pearls from time to time
