But for this specific detail, the answer is that transmitting a photon can be done at the speed of light very easily. Photons already naturally travel at light speed. They're light.A starship is huge. It has mass. Accelerating a physical object can never actually reach the speed of light, at the very most it can get *close to* the speed of light and even thats insanely energy intensive. Realistically you are aiming for 1/3rd -1/2 C, so a photon preceding you will reach Earth a long time before you arrive even if you left at the same time.
