I realize these aliens never lie, but there difference between lying and not saying stuff.

they can lie and do lie. They just didnt understand human culture of basically everything being a lie since their thoughts are visible to each other.

because the hivemind just tells the main character about itself even though literally any other course of action would have served its goals more effectively.

People tell me I'm missing some important context from the books or whatever but

>Aliens live in an inhospitable corner of the universe
>They put all of their entire civilization's resources into creating a planet-sized supercomputer and then inventing the tech to shrink it down to the size of an atom.
>How long did this take to make? No one knows. I doubt it took them just 50 years to do, but whatever.
>They only know Earth exists and sent their computer-photons here to fuck shit up AFTER some rando Chinese lady used 50s technology to send a radio-wave signal to the aliens, which somehow reached them.
>They then responded to the signal, and immediately started manipulating humans on Earth to form a secret death cult worshipping the aliens so that the aliens could easily come in and take over the planet.
>But the aliens can't get here fast enough, but their supercomputer-photon is already here fucking things up? How does that work?
>Also, the aliens lie to the humans for 50 years, pretending to be friends and that they're going to come here peacefully (they're not, they decided to conquer it like 100 years ago at least) and then pretend that they've changed their mind and are mad at humanity as a whole and will destroy them for their hubris because Cult Leader Man reads them a children's story and they pretend they didn't know about the concept of lying (they did) and now that they do, because humans are capable of lying they must be destroyed.
>But the two photon-supercomputers were already here on Earth fucking with science and shit way, way before that ever happened meaning the aliens had already decided to try and impede humans from progressing scientifically because that's the only way to keep humans weak enough to not be able to resist the invasion they already planned to do.

i'm aware their solar system is fucked but with that sort of tech surely they can find an uninhabited earth-like planet closer to them. why are they fishing for a planet like earth. they have manufacturing capability on the scale of atoms if not subatomic, this implies von neumann probes and terraforming capabilities.
i also reject the notion a species that spends so much energy on retaining the ability to enter a dormant state for decades or even centuries is not going to have higher-level intelligence, the two just dont select for each other in that sort of environment. in that environment being the most successful dry husk is the chief fitness variable. intelligence is for salad days when the game is plentiful and the winters mild.

The coolest/funniest part about the chink show is because they dropped all the cultural revolution stuff, her motivation for trying to contact aliens, and continuing to contact aliens after being warned to stop, by aliens, was “anything is better than living in China.”
>>
>>215882031
he's 100% right, the chink show is unrivaled kinography
the west literally can't compete
Netflix's 3 body is worse than GoT season 8 it's just that no one cared about the series yet
True abomination

Negro, Anya Taylor Joy looks like alien. Fanning sisters look like Aryans. Sydney Sweeney is just meh
>>
>>215882026
that is very convenient. i'm going to say it's wildly outlandish that two alien races in a post-atom phase of civilization are going to be neighbors; there are like 200 billion stars in this galaxy so lots of opportunities but probably none nearby because of sheer unlikeliness of perfect goldilocks-zone planets with large quantities of water. obviously there are going to be many more dead barren planets then there are liquid ocean protoEarths; we have many planets but only one like Earth in our solar system...
>>
>>215881753
>find an uninhabited earth-like planet
Lets use your (lack of) ability to deduct information.
So there are 9 planets in our solar system (one planet is now not classified as a planet but there is planet X still unaccounted for)
So what % of the entire solar system, including non planetary bodies like the sun, moons etc is habitable?
Now times that number by the amount of solar systems. Just as an average to see how small the probability of finding any planet that can sustain life.

In retarded analogy terms, that is like finding one red speck of sand on a yellow beach....
Would take more effort to search for it than to find it.

>>But the aliens can't get here fast enough, but their supercomputer-photon is already here fucking things up? How does that work?

The rest of your complaints are valid, the books this is based on are not as smart as they pretend and are actually downright anti-intellectual when you lay them out. But for this specific detail, the answer is that transmitting a photon can be done at the speed of light very easily. Photons already naturally travel at light speed. They're light.

A starship is huge. It has mass. Accelerating a physical object can never actually reach the speed of light, at the very most it can get *close to* the speed of light and even thats insanely energy intensive. Realistically you are aiming for 1/3rd -1/2 C, so a photon preceding you will reach Earth a long time before you arrive even if you left at the same time.
>>
>>215882465
>it's wildly outlandish that

the whole book series is based on the idea that the alien race can't solve "the three body problem" and predict the movements of their system, even though the human race can already run computer simlulations to predict our solar system's positions for millions of years into the future. the material is not good and at not point was this show ever going to be smart sci-fi or good entertainment.
>>
>>215881617
A lot of this book has telltale magical thinking that exists in a lot of indigenous lore around the world. It shouldn't have been applied to a modern science fiction story.
>>
>>215877772
The one the cast as auggie can’t act and is annoying as fuck.
>>
>>215882530
how to make this work better
>3 body alien race is billigerents who have managed to work up to a late-stage industrial society that is teetering on the edge of climate change collapse. their technology is strictly nuts and bolts; they build big rockets and they build a lot of 'em; they can ferry hundreds of thousands of their kind to another solar system.
>the photon computer race is a different race; the supposed real belligerents; they're actively stopping us and probably the 3 body aliens from achieving the sort of post-atomic fundamental truths and technology that will ascend them supposedly to the levels of the photon-sized supercomputer aliens where things like the weather and food and water are solved problems.
>>
>>215882689
>first season we are incorrectly led to believe the two separate actors are in fact one
>after all what are the odds of their being two xeno actors in this scenario; the odds of two space-capable civilizations coexisting in the same tenths of a second on the cosmic timescale is incredibly unlikely, let alone three. but it drives dramatic tension and audience engagement when it is revealed there is likely another alien race working in the shadows. indeed season 2 we won't even show the aliens, not even in oblique ways, we'll save any sort of visual (maybe a mote of light floating in a spaceship hallway ominously) for season 3 at the earliest. we anticipate the hate threads on 4chan and r*ddit.
>>
>>215882689
Have it so we are getting invaded by the 3-body aliens because their planet is being intentionally fucked over by the more advanced aliens from afar, who at the time they started fucking with the 3-body aliens they didn't even know Earth existed yet. The photon computer guys are a long way away from the action, well out of reach of any reprisal at our tech level, but when the 3-body aliens discover us next door they come after us for our resources to patch up their own failing system.

This spooks the advanced aliens, because they never planned on this outcome. The 3-body aliens were supposed to wither and die alone, not find a way out of the trap by escaping their solar system and loot us to survive.

They send Earth a photon computer to try and make us sabotage ourselves before the 3-body aliens can reach us, tricking us into poisoning ourselves with rampant climate change and shit to collapse our ecosystem in record time, but the fact that they are trying to do a rush job works against them and the plan falls apart. They could have easily destroyed us by manipulation over time, but they tried to move too hard too fast and tipped their hand, exposing the game and giving us a chance to realize what was happening before it was too late because they didn't have time to do it the 'right' way.

So now we know we are getting thrown under the bus, and so are the 3-body guys, but the question remains how to we survive this initial invasion of desperate aliens that have staked everything on this hail mary plan. But, if we can convince them that we share a common enemy with the photon computer guys, maybe there is a way out of this where we team up against our much more advanced opponent. But only maybe. They might not be willing to talk.

Is there a new season coming out or something? Youtube keeps feeding me videos about the show even though I've never searched for it
>>
>>215882974
eventually but idk how far along production is
>>
>>215882258
>the chink show is unrivaled kinography
Wrong. I watched like 4 episodes and gave up because the pacing was agonizingly slow
>>
>>215882939
>a mote of light in a spaceship hallway is NOT threatening!
it would be terrifying because it would imply whatever it is (probably non-corporeal) can adjust it's velocity to remain relative in a fixed position, probably to an extremely high degree of accuracy meaning it would appear to be unnaturally still, it would be an demonstration of gross power bordering on magical that a seemingly intelligent agent could "board" our ships and observe us like that.
>>
>>215882974
Netflix did start filming season 2 and 3 in this summer.
So it will probably be until 2030 when they get released
>>
>>215883002
i got further but also abandoned it mid-season.
it had moments of kino but i was unable to get invested in the characters, and there was definitely some culture shock remoteness there. also it felt really corny at times. the animated segments did not help this feeling.
>>
>>215882689
>>215882939
this is pretty good
it's like the dark forest concept except there's no planets being blown up
the in-the-know aliens just fuck with lesser aliens' societies until they destroy themself
pitting two "barely space faring" civilizations against each other would be rare, but one of the better tactics
>>
>>215881753
>intelligence is selected for when conditions are optimal
What?
>>
>>215883438
supposedly there is some moderate member of this species in the books who, after he figures out he's talking to people with a nice planet, he tells us to stop now and not try to initiate contact with his species.
the b-plot as the 3 body aliens prepare their invasion is can the benevolent alien and his human contacts figure out they're both being played and that's why the science isn't adding up. perhaps even an unlikely truce as both human and alien turn their attention to their invisible adversary, with the alien fleet turned into refugees, not invaders.
