The hivemind is lying about the survivors, possibly the state of the world and its intentions. Without any clues in these 2 episodes this is a literral asspull. Of course we could have been more skeptical of a hivemind but there was a necessary suspension of desbielief for a scifi show. Gilligan abused it and it's extremely dishonnest.

But a better question is does the hivemind baby actually develop full levels of intelligence when it's an infant, or does the brain need to develop first? I mean what happens to an infant baby's mind or a developing baby in the womb if the virus impacts it?
