What did any of you old heads & millennials think of it during that era? No discussion of the modern stuff, I’m talking watching Raw prior to Silk Stalkings on USA Network & such. Was it as big as people said it was or just this niche thing where the bubble eventually burst?
>>220679758It was a legit exciting time to be a rasslin fan because there was this real feud going on between 2 companies and both were so determined to one up each other. The competitiveness brought the best( and the worst) of them.
>>220679758I used to love prowrestling as a kid. Then I saw something called AEW and they had trannies inside and outside the ring. Just pissing on the business. Makes me sick to see how evil it's become.
The attitude era was pique wrasslin.
>>220679758I liked some of the acrobatics and other stunts. Everything else was trailer trash theatre for gay retards.
>>220679758issued 4 days before Columbinewhat a time capsule
i miss wcw
>>220680871>Makes me sick to see how evil it's become.Nigger, Vinc let a dude who jerked himself off with little boy feet continue working in his company.
>>220679758the peak that will never ever be recreated no matter how much money is put into nostalgia or to try and replicate it. it was the exact right thing at the right time. Two mega rich companies willing to cut each other and bleed for the lion's share of the market when cable was the norm across America so both shows had national reach. And with much fewer TV channels back then more people would tune in. TV Guide even had covers devoted to wrestling. Every week you never knew what was going to happen but you did know it was going to be exciting. The early start with those Hogan and friends vs Kevin Sullivan's group of evil fatties didn't really do much other than force Vince's hand to change his presentation and get out of the Manhattan Center, but once Scott Hall showed up WCW was cooking and normies were talking. Fast forward to 1997 and everyone was talking about wrestling at school, the ball park, courtyards, everywhere. The incredible videogames helped carry both brands into the nerd culture while still appealing to the high test college and teen audience the TV shows were geared for, and the toys brought in new young fans. These days no kids play with toys, nerd still talk about those same videogames and not the new ones, and the high test audience has aged out and been replaced with the pro-tranny gen alpha community theater types. if you didn't live through it you'll never really understand what was missed out on. It's like young pokemon fans missing the initial pokemania of gen 1. They'll never ever experience that and the generations that came after scream at the top of their lungs to be just as successful or thought of as fondly but they never are and never will be.
Grandparents had cable and would record wwf for me each week, early 90s. I loved it. How over the top it was, the sounds and commentators excitement over these real life super heros/villians. Then wcw came to terrestial tv on grainy ch5 99/00 But by the time I'd moved the aerial around to get a clear picture, goldbags had already bodyslammed the jobber. Bloody bastard, another seven sleeps until I get another shot at viewing a slice of Americana.

35 year old unc fan here. i wasn't a fan of pro wrestling and even i knew about the attitude era. the rock was a huge deal and people were waiting for him to crossover into being a movie star. WWF was a major force in the monoculture as it existed back then
>>220679758I found it cringe at the time, but had to begrudgingly watch it so that I could keep up in school conversations the next day. Now, it’s more a nostalgia thing for the greater era that spawned it.

It was so glorious, let us not forget about ECW in the mix.
