When they were goofy they knew it and unapologetically leaned into it, at least on a per-issue basis. BNR is schizo. It's still piggybacking off the Burton continuity despite being the polar opposite of those films in terms of vibe and aesthetics, it has villains that are 1000% unserious cartoon characters but all 3 of the main protagonists give inexplicably serious straight-faced (but not deadpan) performances, even when their lines are overtly comedic. The "Alfred is dying" plot is like something out of an entirely different film, Bane is a blank fucking slate that didn't even need to be there....it's a mess. It's so retarded you can only take it as a comedy but it's not consistently funny or intentionally humorous. Now, if you said the Adam West show was an accurate representation of the goofy Batman era, that would have been correct.

Batman Begins is structurally ok. My issue with it is that Nolan is a retard, and decided to use one of the most supernatural villains for his grounded and realistic take on Batman. Dark Knight is fine if you turn your brain off. I do hate the art direction with Gotham just being Chicago, but that's just another one of Nolan's flaws around his hate boner for cgi. Dark Knight Rises is unwatchable for a long list of reasons.
