It's stupid* and woke when you know the actual intended meaning.
*director is like: this is what would happen in real life - he would be worshipped and lauded as hero. Except it never actually happens and it was just Marty's stupid woke headcannon.
Probably because he's a pathetic mobster-wannabe manlet italian faggot and was triggered that every hero in movies at the time was a tall white aryan man.

I've tried watching it about 4 times, starting in 1997.
I've never seen the last 30 mins because i always fall asleep.

It's pretty good. For me, the best thing about it is its atmosphere. It perfectly captures what the milieu is to the antihero protagonist - a reeking, fetid, neon-stained urban bog. It has a repellent griminess about it that seeps into you like some biohazardous pollutant and we feel as sick as Travis does. I don't remember who wrote the movie but it is heavily reminiscent of Dostoevsky and Knut Hamsun in its acidic darkness of psychology and tone.

I saw it recently. There's a lot to appreciate about it. I'm glad Travis managed to turn things around. Blade Runner is even better though.
