the show clearly highlights how important it is to have a "catalyst" event for the main characters. they have it for hughie, for butcher, but there wasn't really a clear one for HL. he is introduced in s1 as evil in a more indifferent way, just doing things for vought. what drove him towards the next level of evil and psychotic insanity? maybe i missed it since i didn't watch all seasons. but in s1 he begins to think he is being targeted once the invisible guy gets taken out. in addition to deploying vought troops to find translucent, he goes flying around to look for him, has the early encounter with frenchie, and ends up empty handed. already the writing was getting sloppy there.

same problem with daenarys suddenly going insane. it happened too quickly for audiences to accept, without a clear and visual catalyst. these morons forget they're telling a story with a visual medium.

He doesn't have super hearing, he actually has mind reading. Prior to the beginning of the series, when he has already gone insane, he is a standard Superman analogue. He perceives his abilities as being super strength, flight, super hearing, etc. But in actuality he is an other-dimensional alien being that has taken the image of a human, and all of his superpowers are psionic, meaning he is really just a reality-warping sadist who eventually starts becoming godlike before the story ends.

I personally liked the story. I know subversive plots are currently played out, but the antagonist Tony's enough of an evil bastard that you kind of have fun seeing the retarded antics he comes up with. The art though vascillates between really great and truly awful, I don't know exactly what he was going for but some of the expressions throughout the comic are just ghastly and take away from the plot they're trying to tell. Like I know the shtick is they're all bad people but fuck sake it's hideous.
