Beautiful. Also I hated the rushed ending, but alas. Wish the guy would keep drawing.
>>
>>3323797
One of the most disappointing endings, in my opinion. Other endings have been worse, but this ending was just so empty. Two timeskips, not showing Kaoru's face at the end, them living next to her brother. I'm still salty.

Did retrospectively finding out the main characters in Ganma were perverts who lost their virginity while they were still minors, with Miyuki losing hers to their mother, make the story better or worse?

Also did finding out the measurements for their clit make it better or worse?

They aren't a lot but they have everything: musicians, yakuza, incest, adult life, vampire x vampire hunter... and the art is fantastic.

I feel depressed every time I think how many more stories or series we could have read if she didn't suddenly stopped writing years ago.

I reread this story a lot, good mix of cute, comedy, and feels. I think I also like stories where the characters learn that the characters they were initially in love with aren't that great and learn to move on and be with someone who actually love them. So that ending was pretty heartbreaking, but good.

Gamma is also one of the older titles that I liked since I'm into SF and toku as well as yuri. Also one of the uncommon examples where the main pairing splits and both find different partners, even though they still love each other. It seems to be Ogino's thing in general, along with gigantic breasts and SM play.
>>
>>3323886
I love how we've progressed from

>>
>>3324009
onesho is a comedy, the other isn't and is meant to be taken more seriously, and thus needs to be more realistic
>>
>>3324016
It's not just a genre thing. I think yuri writers are starting to realize that the "one partner leaves for years and returns when all hope seems lost" ending is played out. You don't see it much anymore.

Hypothetically speaking, how much money would it take to produce an anime for this? Getting a hold of the rights, paying an animation studio, etc.
>>
>>3327606
Depends on what your goal is. If you want clutch cargo tier animation, a few thousand dollars. If you want a real anime, we're in the upper tens of thousands.
The rights shouldn't be very pricey, at least.

>>3327606
A episode of 20 min costs, in average 300 thousands dollars, a full 13 episides anime will be 3,6 millions so more or less that

>>
>>3328599
I disagree. Shinozaki was promising and good at the start, but it got boring spinning its wheels with the same set ups to the same jokes far too often. I don't even know how it ended because I gave up on it somewhere around chapter 35. Each chapter is pretty long too, so it would have to be almost an episode per chapter. That would probably mean 2 cour at the least.

>>3323778
Noriko and Rhianna on the other hand ended the series getting married and are expected to have at least one child. The whole thing can definitely be done in 12 or so episodes. It would be one of the most blatantly gay anime ever.
>>
>>3328782

I watched Yuri Kuma Arashi today after having it in my backlog forever because my expectations were too high when it came out to work up the courage to watch it, and then I forgot about it. I found the anime really enjoyable to watch and I couldn't put it down but weirdly it was also unsatisfying at the same time. Characters I liked getting killed, especially the last one which just felt pointless or the kiss and happiness at the end didn't really stir my heart like I hoped it would. Morishima Akiko is a goddess and I trust her with my immortal yuri soul but she wasn't the only one working on the manga, so I'm wondering if the manga was actually more satisfying and worth reading as well. How'd /u/ feel about the manga?

>Hoshikawa Ginza Yonchoume
I'm in the camp that thinks this isn't great but the first few pages of the final chapter where she eats her last meal with her mother were incredible.
>>
>>3332440
A lot of people confuse the "Original work" (原作) credit with "Written by", the latter of which only holds true if it's a direct adaptation of the original story (for example, Fujio Akatsuka is credited under Original Work for the Osomatsu-san anime, but obviously wasn't involved on account of being dead.). In this case, the manga is pretty much entirely Morishima's vision based on Ikuhara's concept, much like how Morishima's involvement with the anime is pretty much limited to the character designs.
>>

Went ahead and read it since a grounded version of the anime sounded like exactly what I was hoping for. Sadly I still felt disappointed. In the anime I thought Ginko was an interesting character but in the manga she wasn't really sympathetic or captivating at all. One of the themes I really admired about the anime was that recurring mantra to never give up on love, but Ginko basically turned her back on love for most of the manga. Kureha was the only one who retained her anime version's resolve but she didn't have as much involvement in the actual plot this time. Lulu was still pointless and her brother subplot still sucked, in the anime it was comedy played as tragedy and in the manga it was tragedy that fell flat. Didn't make sense to me why familial love was being given the same context as romantic love either. Also the flasher and NTR Trap plot in the first volume was awfully out of place to the point where I almost dropped it because I thought it would be a continued skit but it basically gets dropped and forgotten immediately. Seriously don't know what they were thinking adding that. The 3 judges in the anime were just comic relief, but in the manga they were more like the annoyingly tropey ikemen. In general the manga felt like three completely different things were mashed together and it didn't work on it enough to get the lumps out to make this a smooth experience. I like parts of the anime and parts of the manga, but it isn't really forming the cohesive whole I wanted from it. For a series where everyone talks about love all the time it really felt like romance wasn't even considered, I never felt any chemistry, and even after spending time with both I'm not really leaving with any lasting impressions. I'm really bewildered by this because all the ingredients were there.
>>
>>3333249
That's what happens when you have two people with conflicting ideas and you have to smash it together into one work.
>>
>>3333250
Yeah I could definitely see the effects of the anime's influence causing storylines to merge and cause a need to include stuff that overly complicated the plot. The manga simplified some plot points but I think even more trimming would have been better so the character interactions could have time to breathe.

I love this one and for a short series it still manages to pack a lot of great stuff in it. The romance is adorable and the plot moves along to a new topic every chapter so there's tons of development. Lots of beautiful illustrations and their one kiss per day rule makes it satisfyingly overt as romance. They even go on an aquarium date. I'm a little confused about japan's medical schooling though, people call her a doctor but she said she's in her 3rd year of uni so she'd only be 21-22. She also says 7 years ago she was still in high school, meaning her age range is limited to 22-25. Is it normal for a 22 year old med intern to be called doctor and assigned to people, or is she actually graduated and doing on the job training at 25 and in a 3rd year of uni postdoc training?

Oneshots are a necessary evil in the industry. Nothing else. Outside of doujinshi (where you know the characters, and it's not really what you'd call a oneshot anyway) they aren't worth much for readers.

meh, i'd rather read a wholesome oneshot than 20+ chapters of forced dramas, cliches and useless lesbians...

Plenty of people like oneshots, they're something fun to read in the morning without having to commit to an entire series

Makes sense, so she'd be in her 3rd year of clinical, or year 6 of med, making her 24-25 when the series starts. That makes more sense because near the end she says she was promoted to resident which is what I thought would be postgraduate only.

To me it isn't even about the drama or commitment. Any number of pages can tell a story well when the author puts their heart into it. One of my favorite very short oneshots from Nishi Uko is only 6 pages but I love it. Doesn't need a moment more to deliver these emotions.

Also since we're on the subject of short stories here is my favorite recent twoshot

One recently that got me emotional was even shorter, just 4 pg

I remember that one, goes to show how much impact something can have despite its brevity. There are probably some 1 and 2 page oneshots out there that capably stir our emotions as well. At the end of the day a single picture frame holding a yuri painting could be just as moving.

Very nice reccomendation

There's not a lot of new year's yuri so I usually end up reading the same oneshot every year. The tag is becoming more useful for finding other new year's chapters and doujins but this remains my favorite of the bunch

Read the first Butterfly 69 chapter and Nightmare Syndrome and am wondering how the hell I didn't hear of this lady sooner. These couples are my exact aesthetic.

Maid-san deserved better though

They should've made the maid immortal as well.

I'm big on Sakura no Sakai / Sakura no Kiwa. I understand why nobody can be bothered to translate the rest of it, but, aww. It's cute art with cute girls and cute cats. Such a nice friendship. Very classic.
