Embric of Wulfhammer's Castle and other Saint Bomber games, Heartbeat, Gray Garden, etc etc... Anything goes so long as it's yuri.

>the final release is almost 10 years old at this point
Time flies so fast. I really loved this game back in the day, I spent days playing it and trying to complete every scenario. It had a few elements that wouldn't be acceptable for the modern /u/ audience too unfortunately, but those only made a really small part, it's mostly yuri through and through. I wish the protagonist had been into girls from the start though.

The way I understood it was that she was always into girls, but never realized it until the events of the game.

Quality games through and through.
>>
>>3596888
I know, but I wish she had always realised it. I wish she was only forced to marry Embric and hated that idea.
>>
Which RPG maker games are worth it for the yuri? Well aside from what the op posted.
>>
>>3602350
If you only know about Embric, SaintBomber made a few more yuri games (purer yuri than Embric, too) since then. A Dragon's Request is finished and available on his patreon for free. The magical girl game is still in development but also already worth playing.

There is also some games in Towelket series that are yuri with stuff like girls getting married and having kids together. Though there are a few things to keep in mind. While some games have a yuri focus with little to no male characters most of the games are het and though it's not a hard requirement it's heavily recommended to play the games in release order. So while the games do have some real gay shit in them I can't recommend them to anyone that can't stand het no matter what. Most of the games are also not translated, the only yuri game in the series with a English translation is 6 and that's considered one of the weakest games in the series since the 2nd half is obviously rushed and it has a sudden ending. Warau Warawau, which is both yuri and is often considered one of the best by fans is untranslated and it'll probably be awhile until it gets translated. The series is also depression fuel. Not every game is like that, but generally you should expect awful shit to happen to people.

Like >>3602355 said, Saint Bomber's later games, which I find way superior than Embric. Quantum Entanglement is not an RPG, more like a mystery game done in RPGMaker, but a Dragon's Request is a RPG through and through and VERY generous, I honestly didn't expect to like it this much

You're in for a great game when you let yourself play. Though it's more like Embric and QE than DreQ.
>>
>>3610657
Ha, SB sure hasn't lost their touch
The temptation is great to dive in right now, but I HAVE to stay productive for the coming months and I know this game WILL ruin that, it's hard enough to resist launching a new game of aDreQ
>>
>>3610650
Play Embric too. It's not anti-yuri or whatever that Anon was trying to say.
>>
>>3610663
I mean, it certainly is yuri, but anytime Embric is around or mentioned you'll want to close your eyes
>>
>>3610669
He's basically never around and the Duchess is screwing all his Fellowship mates. Are you that allergic to men that you can't see their pixels a few times?
>>
>>3610675
My best guess is he just resents the fact that despite being a Yuri game first and foremost, the main character still swings both ways.
>>
>>3610675
The elf loves him, and the duchess can too I guess. I'm just saying this yuri game got straight content. Also there's this other dude the duchess can have an ending with too.
>>
>>3610658
I'm not trying to tempt you, I'm just saying it'll be worth the wait.
>>
>>3610685
>Also there's this other dude the duchess can have an ending with too.
There's only one "guy" ending, it's Embric, and it has the least content
Also the true ending has the Duchess sacrifice Embric to secure Whatshisname's help
>>
>>3610694
Nah the failed cult ending is something with the oranged haired scar dude
>>
>>3610695

Playing Dragons Request now... please help me!
Aunt Becky is murdering my party. I can't keep silence up long enough to stop the absurdly overpowered healing spells so I can whiddle down her health.
>>
My God, what the hell?
I dumped a ton of Cattle Prods on Aunt Becky and not I have Black Dahlia hitting us with status faster than I can keep Flourine removing them, let alone Garnet keeping Silence up.
>>
Phew, I managed to beat them all.
So... is the everyone is little blue wisps ending the true ending, or is that because I only got regalia for Hinoki and Garnet?
>>
>>3616333
There is a lot more to get, and yeah you need full regalia and a bunch more stuff for the true ending(s).
>>
Is there a guide for the latest Saintbomber game?
>>
>>3616410
You're going to have to be more specific. The latest completed game or the latest in-progress game?
Well, I can answer both.
a Dragon's reQuest has a walkthrough included in the download
Angelic Acceptor Alouette has event markers that can be enabled in the options for both side events and main events.
>>
>>3616426

>>3616438
Puts a little marker above an area where you can advance an event. I normally play with them off. While looking around to get this screenshot, I noticed some of them might be broken.
I should hit SB up about that.
If you need specific help I'll probably be able to point you in the right direction.
>>
>>3616426
Also in AAA you can jump back to earlier episodes and unfuckup things like messing up the Petanque encounter
>>
>>3616338
I have the walk through. What exactly is "a bunxh more stuff" that I need?
Is it just full regalia for Hinoki/Garnet/Florurine/Aura and the three dark weapons (or whatever they're called)? How do I know when I have the right ending?
>>
>>3616516
>How do I know when I have the right ending?
The "true" ending is when the problem is solved at the root. If you have the 4 dark weapons and do the right rights in the Malphon fight (it's in the guide) then they're no way to miss that ending
>>
>>3616529
>then they're no way to miss that ending
Yes there is, there's one final alternate end at the root and anon described that ending in his earlier post.
>>
>>3616547
Oh is there's a wisp ending? how do you get it?
>>
>>3616529
Could you be more specific on what the "root" is and which Malphon fight? There's three at least.
>>
>>3616547
I only had two regalia and one dark weapon. I wasn't able able get the "Skull" somehow during the crazy 7 fight. I clearly missed some monster villages somehow too... anything else I might have missed?
>>
Before I say anything at all, I can try and make it vague or I can just give you firm details. Which would you like?
>>
>>3616580
The latter, please. Spoiler it if it is too spoilery, to keep pure other virgin eyes.
>>
>>3616568
The root is discussed by the characters during the game, that confining villains just kicks the can down the road and it needs a more definitive solutions
Also the guide outlines what you should do during the fight
>>
>>3616583
Everything after entering the Great Disaster area is described as follows in the walkthrough.
>There you will find the end of the game.

I think it's clear that I have no idea what is wrong.
Earlier in the six divines fight section it says to go back in time twice... like that means anything to me.
Wait... I recall a character asking Garnet is she tried the crystal in the castle lobby. Is that supposed to be a hint to do it again?
Also, how do I get the skull. Aura just punches the wall and they say it's too hard.
>>
>>3610669
Wait till you find out who embric actually is
>>
Okay. There's ultimately two checks for the true end. One leads into the other.
You need to have at least one Black Weapon. This enables an extra, hidden option when the time comes to make your Big Decision in Malphon's Castle. Press Cancel you get the choice to Seal Malphon, Destroy Maphon, or Take the Deal.
In the following battle, you need to use an alternative method to deal with Malphon's six divines. They need to be allowed to escape the battle by using the six precious items you find along your journey.
Following the battle you'll be given a clue on where to head next. Buy an airship and head for the Great Disaster on the south-east corner of the map
When you enter the First Tower the final check is made that determines if you get the true end or the final alternative end once you finish your business inside. If you hatched Hinoki Jr. and rescued all six divines, you get the true end, get the true end. Otherwise, you get the alternative end with wisps.
Unfortunately, if you decided to wait before having a child with Xenon, or opted for a live birth instead of an egg, you're permanently locked out of the true end.

>>3616590
Come back to that pillar after travelling through time. Use the crystal.
>>
>>3616599
Thank you. I carried Hinoki Jr. around as an egg and hatched her with snow spirit so I think I'm safe there. I also have one dark weapon. So it must be the problem is that I wasn't able to get the skull for Selfie. I'll give that a try.
If I don't get it please hold my hand (full homo) again, senpai.
>>
>>3616605
Happy crumping!
>>
>>3616599
>or opted for a live birth instead of an egg
Is that an actual choice you can make?
>>
>>3616615
It's another "hidden" option.
It's functionally the same as deciding to wait, as there's very few events are affected by choosing it.
>>
>>3616620
I mean it's not an active choice right? If you choose sleep with Xenon you get the egg with its installation guide no matter what, right? (to be honest Xenon said words about it but I didn't understand any of them, thought I'd have to make a choice but just got the egg, so I just ran with it)
>>
>>3616633
It's the same as the Big Decision with Malphon. You press Cancel at the menu, and get a completely different outcome. If you just sleep with her as the guide says then you get an egg, as you said.
>>
>>3616638
Oh I see why would you NOT sleep with a dragon queen tho
>>
>>3616607
Thank you. I just got to The Ass End of Time after defeating Malphon so i assume this is the true end.

Now my only question is what exactly was happening in the Carmina cameo scene?

Thank you for another wonderful game, SB. I look forward to the completion of the new one, and I think I'll play Quantum Entanglement again while I wait.
>>
>>3616689
I think I'll just echo was SB himself usually says and say "It's up to player interpretation."
>>
Does a new walkthrough for Embric exist? All I have is a muddled copy of the Google doc from ages ago.
>>
>>3616964
No it's the same old one, I kinda wanted to refresh it but can't find the motivation
>>
>>3617190
Doesn't the old one cover everything useful anyway?
>>
>>3617192
Yeah, but it lacks some minor stuff, and more importantly, it's confusing and hard to navigate with colors spilling up everywhere, that's the biggest thing to address
>>
>>3617195
The most confusing thing about it is trying not to spoil yourself while also trying to read how to not block endings for yourself
>>
>>3617202
If you're reading the guide aiming not to spoil yourself, that's on you
>>
>>3617205
If you play blind you're definitely gonna accidentally block endings for yourself
>>
>>3617207
A double-edged sword if I ever saw one.
>>
>>3617207
You go blind at first and then whip out the guide on your second go, you can't have your cake and eat it too
>>
>>3617251
>second go
it's not that good a game
>>
>>3617255
Then stop complaining about spoilers, you're simply not going to find all 21 endings by going blind
>>

A couple of interactions in the Tomb of Homely
Dwarven Degeneracy
The nude pillow fight at Highwind Tower
It suddenly occurred to me that you may have been talking about the giant in the Mystic Lands rather than the giant at Cyclopolis. In which case I guess you're right. But that's also pretty early in the game still. And the nude pillow fight still happens.
>>
>>3624615

Just got to episode 7 of AAAVXA. Are Simone and the other magical girls really 21?

Yes. Some are implied to be older.
They may be older than your average Magical Girl, but that doesn't stop them from being young at heart.

It's not terribly difficult to just pretend they're teenagers, if you really want to. You'll just have to be ready to ignore of the odd line or two hinting at true ages.
>>
>>3642426
I do. Frankly it feels like they were written to be 16-18 and then aged up for some reason probably related to the harem. What's with the event markers by the way? Are ! markers for side events and !! markers for main episode stuff? What about Simone/Alouette ones, are they always side events?
>>
>>3642455

I don't fully get the Simone/Alouette markers, aside from the small letters being an indicator of which form you need to be in.

AAAVXA is great. Except for Naomi. The barely reformed slut angle was tolerable until the NTR.

And she's a bislut too, who casually brings up sucking off men before coming on to Simone. I hope her episode was written by a patreon whale.

I don't play games that much but got curious about this and just started it, it's really charming.
Japanese RPGM devs don't seem to like yuri that much though, is that right? Yuri in their RPGM games seems to be almost always accompanied by some form or the other of tentacles,
futa and het sex, I could not find a single game with only yuri.

So is the scripting in the sewers supposed to be broken? I thought the side episodes I apparently did out of sequence were bad until I got the dungeon intro after clearing out a few minibosses. Also am I supposed to be invincible to their attacks and two shotting them?

Combat is known to be on the janky side. He's working on finding a solution.
>>
>>3642856
>broke
I got through it fine. I think. Just events triggering out of order. No idea where the entrance to the other side of the laser gate is though.
And apparently Mille is mahou shoujo Petanque according to episode U. Which I unlocked in episode 7. This game could really use more conditions for events.
>>
>>3642837
Thank you kindly. This game is tons of fun by the way. I have serious back pain but it made me smile all day, what a treasure.
>>
>>3642883
The way to other laser gate opens up in a later episode.
Ep7 is the earliest you can do U, but there's supposed to be conditions in place to prevent that sort of spoiler. That's definitely a bug.
>>
Riverside is super weird. I just got the intro to it and medusa in episode 9/L despite doing the first floor of the sewers in episode 7. Some event triggers seem to be messed up since I'm getting markers that don't work in the episode they first appear in, like the one in Lasca's room.
>>
>>3642979
I'm starting to get the impression you initially entered the sewers in an unintentional way.
>>

I doubt it. Maid cafe event with Mille unlocked the suburbs which had an area transition to the sewers.

That's what I thought. I told SB about that hole, but I guess it wasn't on the list to get fixed yet.
>>
It's kinda hard to take the hurtling towards a moderately dark and edgy conclusion seriously when the AO3speak starts.

I don't know if it's a bug but in Embric I can't do the Fal route because she's stuck in the crystal mines and even doing other routes doesn't make her spawn where she needs to be...
>>
>>3643798
Oh, it turns out I had to talk with Grettel to make things move on Fal's route. I hope I didn't lock myself out of some other endings by doing things on my own... The D&D session ending was weird as fuck, wasn't really expecting that lmao
>>
>>3643989
IIRC some ending lock you out of others. Try to check the guide again. Always talk to everyone if you are stuck.
>>
>>3644009
Yeah following the guide now and I'm slowly getting to full completion.
I'mma ask this before I even finish it proper because I'm hooked on SaintBomber/Large Battleship Studios writing, what do I play after Embric: Quantum Entanglement or A Dragon's Request? Which one is more gay?
>>
>>3644468
They're both pretty gay.
Let me ask you a question, instead:
Would you prefer another game that plays similar to how Embric does, or would you prefer a shift to something more JRPG like?
If Embric: Quantum Entanglement
If JRPG: a Dragon's reQuest
>>
>>3644480
I'm going to assume "JRPG like" here means more battles than Embric? Or is it in terms of storytelling?
>>
>>3644558
QE is more linear, intentionally claustrophobic and doesn't have combat, DreQ is a proper RPG with a world map and random encounters
>>
>>3644566
Oh I think I'll play QE first then, I'm enjoying Embric precisely because there's no random encounters and few plot motivated battles.
Does the writing in these 2 games maintain the same verve found in Embric though?
>>
>>3644609
There's a cheat room in DreQ which is what I used to make my girls way over leveled and skip most of the battle.
Yes, the writing is the same. I don't think SaintBomber has any other writers...

I completely exhausted everything there is to see in Embric. I don't play games that much but holy fuck I'm starting to think I'm missing out big time here.
The Duchess is a great character, I enjoyed all of her iterations in the story, she was just so much fun and the endings were very satisfying to play through.
Some thoughts:
- Loved Louni but I feel like she kinda is the losing heroine of the game... The Dark Duchess ending was especially sad for me because after being sold to Zealot, Louni decides to spare Cath's life after seeing how happy she is despite having tried to kill her and the rest of the Fellowship, that shit hit hard despite being fairly short.
- I sorta hated Fal. Seeing her dead in the tattoo removal ritual scene and in the Zealot ending made me so fucking happy lol. I did not care for her in all honesty but I'll admit she has some of the most funny lines and scenes in the entire game; still the way her character was written ticked me off. I'll have to sleep on it to formulate a better/different judgement.
- Alice is another character I didn't feel particularly attached to. Ok I get that in one of the 2 final endings she's revealed to be the true "Embric" but other than that I feel like she was given too much focus in major plot points for my tastes...
- Carmina was really well written on the other hand. I simply adored all her endings and interactions. I like to believe there's a future in the real timeline for her and Cath, after all there's a lot of details that make me think that in some way or the other she's fated to be with Carmina. They also suffered similar upbringings, Cath with her uncle and Carmina with her sister, they're meant to be goddammit.
- Bunny/harem/orgy ending was also great but too short, we needed more...
No idea if this post makes any sense but these are my fresh emotions on this amazing game.

Well technically all the characters are real I think, in the sense that they actually exist outside of the dream as well. The only difference is that Carmina is dream-hopping/having visions of the future like Cath so it's implied she's the only one of them who will retain her memories and persona from the dream. I feel like Ecinacea will remember Cath too since she's an Elder God.
And maybe Louni as well: in the True Ending, right before the quiz showdown with the Devil, if you go back to talk to the characters, Louni is replaced by her trap book where it's written that she decided to basically continue on her quest to discover Vecnathrax true plan, hoping that that will lead her out of the dream and reconcile with Cath.
In my opinion Louni and Carmina are the 2 main heroines in the game, loved them to bits.

Eh, I'm afraid I read something I shouldn't have so let me just ask this: is QE really related to EoWC? Yes or no. If yes I'mma start playing this instant, I wanted to rest after the 3 days marathon on Embric but I'm probably too deep into this now.
>>
>>3645745
>is QE really related to EoWC?
Yes, and in fact they all are tied to each other. DreQ might be the most removed from the other two but then AAA definitely ties all of them together
>>
>>3645745
Well. Yes. But because you sound so enthused about it I have to warn you not go into it expecting it to be a sequel. It's more of a "in the same world" type of relation.
>>
>>3645752
That's good enough for me. I also purchased one of those bootleg Super Famicom ubs controllers, it's comfy as fuck.
>>
Ok I just started QE and I have a question: do I need to follow a walkthrough here as well in fear of getting locked out of some endings? Because I couldn't find it. One anon said it's a more linear game than Embric though.
>>
>>3647198
Yes, you can search for the past topic where it was being discussed, all relevant points to reach the true ending were mentioned.
>>
>>3647198
You don't need a walkthrough. It's a linear game with "pockets" of exploreable areas. It's been a while since I last played, but to my knowledge, nothing important can be outright skipped.
There is a point of no return. I'm pretty sure it's clearly stated and gives you a choice to proceed, with the option to back out so you can save. So you'll be able to load back up at that point and go for a different ending.
Besides, QE has a New Game+ system, so it might be worth fudging up an ending and playing through the game again from the start anyway.
>>
>>3647233
It may be linear but you can get stuck forever missing something you need to do in order to reach the true ending.
>>
>>3647427
Yeah I guess.
>>
Couldn't find a guide and looking through old threads scares me because I'm afraid of getting spoilered. I just reached the part where Claudine is assaulting Gabby and you have the choice to get injected with something that will make you save her but will "change you", I'm glad I saved right before this because it feels like one of those points of no return.
By the way, so far it looks more like a proper game and not really a fanwork, the bgm is especially great but damn it is claustrophobic as fuck, I didn't expect this scenario at all. The funny dialogue is still there and all but you just know this is a messed up situation with no real salvation in store for any of these characters...
>>
>>3647477
Huh. I don't know how I could have forgotten about such an important branching point. It's not really a point of no return, as you're not (totally) locked out of anything from that decision, though each choice causes some variation in certain events.
Definitely one reason to want to do a second playthrough, however.
>>
>>3647496
So I finished it with the ending where the facility director sacrifices himself and Marine and Gabby stay in the facility with their memories intact. How many endings does it have anyway? Also I'd like to know what are the major choices throughout the game:
1 - when Gold Claudine offers to roid you out to save Gabby
2 - when Gold Claudine appears in the Cathedral of Nightmares, she's on the sacrifice altar, dunno if going there triggers something because I remembered what that altar was for and bailed the fuck out lmao
>>
>>3647546
My, my, you're really rushing through these games, aren't you?
Let's see.. I mentioned before it's been a while since I last played so if anyone with a better memory can chip in with stuff I might forget that'd be great.
I recall at least three endings, with one having variations depending, I think, on the choice made with Gold Claudine.
One of the major choices isto either proceed with exploring or go up the Geovator once it's powered. That's one ending right there. Although come to think of it that could be considered a point of no return because once it leaves you can't go back for it. Apologies.
The point of no return I was talking about was the final barrier. Once you cut the power to it I'm positive you're locked in to your current ending. There's three(?) endings at that point, one being a variation of the ending you didn't get. To get to those endings, you need to explore the facility more thoroughly. Surely you've noticed Marine passing out here and there. That's the key. Once you've fufilled the right conditions, a different path will open when you take the space elevator.
>>
Since we're on the topic, am I the only one with a strong dislike for any kind of branching paths/alternate endings in games?
I understand it's a staple for both RPGs and VNs, but having to reload past saves (or replay through the entire thing if you're unlucky enough not to have them) and get alternate outcomes feels just like a chore to me, not to mention the fact that it basically invalidates the 'not true' ending I just experienced. I've dropped several games because of it, including Embric and QE (I'm ever so thankful a walkthrough was included in A Dragon's Request).
What I like is when a game gives you its 100% in one playthrough, so I can enjoy it to the fullest without the anxiety of getting one choice wrong and compromising the story, and I'm not required to repeat any parts of it if I don't feel like it. I'm actually much more likely to replay games like that down the line, and I'll do that on account of genuinely wanting to enjoy them again, not because I'm otherwise missing out on some content, which I wouldn't really call 'replayability', it feels more like artificially lengthening the experience by repeating parts of it.
>>
>>3647655
It does make me anxious but as long as there is a walkthrough I'll get by.
>>
>>3647689
Same here, but the need to keep up with a walkthrough is immersion-breaking, you risk getting spoiled, and for some niche games there may not even be one available.
I much prefer it when there's no such necessity in the first place.

I've been a little slow to get to some of the patches these last couple of months. The flu's been kicking my ass old-school. Next month's should finally patch that unsightly gap, as well as the Underwear shop spoilers.
>>3647655
I've been doing a lot of thinking about what it means to have multiple endings in games. In the end, no matter what the intent is, most people want to know which ending is the "true" ending so they can discard the others as "untrue", even if they're more personally meaningful to the reader.
But as a creator, I need my games to have at least one meaningful choice within to reach the bare minimum of what I consider to be a role-playing game.
And that choice needs to be able to affect change on some level.
Alternate endings are an easy way to express that change, though they're often sloppily implemented. (My own games are no exception to this.)
But something needs to change in order for choices to be meaningful, even if it's just a fork in the road that leads to the same end point.
To me, at least, a game where you can't make meaningful choices is better defined as a movie with controller support.
>>3646428
Like these, which are indeed comfy as fuck.
>>
>>3648073
Wait a minute... The NES isn't capable of these kinds of visuals! Shenanigans!

That's my ideal game right there, though I understand your mileage varies.
I still appreciated the heck out of A Dragon's Request because of the included walkthrough, so here's hoping the upcoming game has something similar when it approaches completion.
Different strokes notwithstanding, I'm super thankful for all your unmistakably passionate work, if only more people followed in your footsteps being a yuri fan wouldn't be such a dry experience when it comes to games.

AAA has toggleable ingame markers, also its episode structure allows you to go back and complete stuff you might've missed

Got locked out of my Discord account, I had so many more questions for SB...
The "sneak peek" of Claudine's route ends with the bug of not being able to get the solved math equation from Kevin because interacting with the boombox makes the flashback play infinitely instead of turning off the heavy metal, but I can say that I loved the little I've seen of it. I still like Gabby more but Claudine could grow on me, she's an interesting character.
I also finally made proper use of the sunglasses and yes, in my humble opinion, those jokes never get old...
I'll try A Dragon's Request next.
>>
>>3651400
IIRC that's actually a bug rather than the end of the sneak peak, but there wasn't much more exclusive content for that route, if at all. Again IIRC.
But I'll save you a potential headache for DreQ: Do not, under any circumstances, crawl through the hole into the throne room. Hopefully that's cryptic but still descriptive enough that you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there.
>>
>>3651406
>Do not, under any circumstances, crawl through the hole into the throne room.
Is this about the cheat room that was mentioned before? If yes I'll have to consider using it because from my understanding DreQ is basically a full fledged RPG with battles and honestly I don't think I have it in me to go through the grind.
>>
>>3651412
Nah, this is related to something else.
It's not even the act of crawling through the hole, it's what you can do on the other side. You can cause yourself to be unable to collect a couple items much later in the game but it ultimately doesn't affect any endings.
>>
>>3651417
Now I'm kinda curious. As long as it doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the game I think I'm gonna check it out on a separate save slot.
>>
Bump, I'm not ready to let go of this thread.

I cleared it. It's great and worth playing, though I'll mention right away that it's only in Japanese. If that's a problem then you can go ahead and ignore this whole post. The title of the game is MÖWIUS and you can get it here.

https://www.freem.ne.jp/win/game/27595

It's about the adventures of a human girl and demon girl. It'll last you a few hours but it's not so long that you can't clear it in a day. Their relationship is the main focus so expect a decent amount of cute moments, but also suffering since there is a both human faction that thinks demons should be killed and also a monster faction that wants to use the demon girl to start shit and see her relationship with the other girl as a obstacle so the two girls have to go through a lot just to be together. The payoff is worth it though. Especially since it's made explicit that their relationship is a romantic one and not just a strong friendship. Also despite that humans vs demons plot you shouldn't expect some cookie cutter lesson on how racism is bad or something like that. It's just there to serve as the external conflict to the girl's relationship. What I didn't like about it was that you never find out what happens to the other characters in the end. The main focus is on the two leads, but I was also invested in some of the other characters too and wanted to know what happened to them. The combat is also typical RPG maker with no effort put into it. You're given the option of skipping it, but if they were going to do that then they shouldn't have even done combat to begin with.
>>
>>3654992
I am reminded of Bad End Theater, which contains something of a similar subplot, expedited as it may be.

Decided to try Dragon's Quest (1) and I have a few questions.
Currently I have 2-3h and the game is pretty fun, got the shield, sword and I built the bridge.
Now I managed to get into the debug room and I saw that there were 4 chapters with a fifth apparently not out yet and I was wondering how long and how much content this game actually has. Will it take me 20+ hours to complete? Because the story is pretty neat thus far.
Also, is there a way to save the harpies before they turn into butterflies? or is the "wish we could've saved them" dialogue just bait?

I wouldn't call it a full-size JRPG, but it's got a good bit of content. I don't like giving hours estimates because everyone plays at their own speed. That said, my completed save file stands at around 40 hours, but I was also spending a lot of time retracing steps to probe for secrets and post-release bugs. And also the occasional "leave the game running while I'm doing something else so the timer kept counting."
To the best of my knowledge,
the Act 5 warp
ended up not being needed, and the debug room being a debug room, was just never updated to reflect that.
Do you really want an answer? Kotori and Toriko's story isn't over yet.

I finished with the four games in the 百合っぽい series though not the other two in that link yet. It's basically a bunch of comedic short stories focusing on different couples. The first few games weren't all that gay, mostly on the level of your average SoL anime, but it got really gay by the end of it with a bunch of couples kissing each other and also very heavily implied sex at the end of one couple's plotline. Though rather than things getting less silly and more gay it's more that it mixes the gay and the comedy together. For example at the end of one plotline it has the girl go her friend for relationship advice like she did at the start except she's basically just unintentionally bragging about getting a girlfriend being completely oblivious to how much she's pissing the other person off. Most of the couples were likable too, though there were some I didn't care for. Also it's best enjoyed if you're already familiar with VIPRPGs since otherwise shit will go over your head. You can find out more if you look it up but VIPRPGs, if you aren't familiar with them, are basically a bunch of RPG Maker games made by a certain Japanese online board. Since it's a community project instead of a something made by an actual company the lore is flexible and it's up to the person making it how much of it they want to follow or not. MÖWIUS, which I played last week is also a VIPRPG, but was made with the intent that anyone could enjoy it regardless of how much they already know about VIPRPGs, this one though was definitely made for people that are already into VIPRPGs.

Also the hub for the last one is a lesbian bar inside a aquarium. That's some next level gay shit right there.

I haven't played a /u/ rpg maker game since the original release of Wulfhammer. What's one that is pretty close to it to dip my toes into?
>>
>>3662004
Quantum Entanglement is roughly similar in that it's a "run around and talk to folks" type game, though it's much more linear. It's also by SaintBomber, if that helps.
There's also a little series of short yuri rpg called Lonely Wolf Treat from NomNomNami that's of a similar style of "walk around and talk to folks" but it may not be to the average 4chan goer's tastes as is occasionally brings up LGBTQ+ things like pronouns and such. I only bring that up because another Anon got disappointed in Angelic Acceptor Alouette doing the same.
>>
>>3662010
>Angelic Acceptor Alouette doing the same
Would've never guessed. To what extent does it happen?
I'll play it either way mind you, just like NomNomNami's games, but I'd rather be aware of it in advance since I find that stuff immersion-breaking.
>>
>>3662154
I don't believe either are of the obnoxious "rub it in your face" type. Two (confirmed) characters in AAA are trans, and that alongside one of those characters' preferred pronouns gets brought up all of, what, maybe four times? It's basically a non-issue. There's a lot more game surrounding those four times.
I wouldn't say Treat is terribly different, but it uses things like pronouns a bit more often, and has at least one side character that questions their sexuality. The Treat games are very short so it probably becomes more noticeable as a result.

So I just defeated the Flourine mimic and the Aura mimic. Provoke + Suckerpunch OP and I was wondering where the other two are.
Have I accidentally skipped them or are they later on in the game?

Also, the guide tells you to get the boat at the start of chapter 4, but you can get it as soon as chapter 3 begins and it makes taxing people a lot easier I use the guide as a checklist more than anything, but if you are following the guide step by step you'll lose out on a few thousand gold pieces by then. Just thought I'd point that out.

I played DreQ for like 10 minutes but I'm already thinking of dropping it, it feels like a completely different beast from Embric and QE and not in a good way, I'm not sure I want to stick with it.

DreQ changes pretty considerably at the 30 minute mark, but if it's the RPG BATTALS that aren't your speed, it may never float your boat.
There are available items and cheats that will trivialize the battles if that helps.
Either way, unlike EoWC and QE, DreQ is a pretty fundamental 5-act hero's journey. (with spicy lesbian antics and PC kleptomania throughout.
>>

Battles are fine, they're not the problem. I'm just not feeling it, it lacks that certain something that made Embric and QE special.
I'll keep playing for a bit more, hopefully it grows on me.

That's likely the result of the change to a traditional JRPG structure. You're not sticking around in one general area for very long and really getting to know the beings there before moving on.
I didn't mind it much, but I can see how it could turn some folks off.

Chihedo's archaic way of talking aside most of them weren't that hard for me to understand. Yorumoru will be murder though. I'm sure it's murder even for fluent Japanese people since that one has a convoluted power system based off of Japanese wordplay which the plot heavily focused on.

>>3700471
It's phrased weirdly but it just boils down to all the games have the same basic characters, but different universes and plots. Like how the Breath of Fire games have Ryu as the MC, but none of them are the same Ryu. The batshit is the selling point of the series though.

VIPRPGs are a treasure trove of yuri. There are other popular yuri couples aside from just those two like Starlight I and Darkness I, Wind I and Water I, Black Bison and Green Sai, and a few others. Recently I got through ウォーターは俺の娘 which is a VIPRPG that's basically Dragon Quest V but yuri. It has a similar premise as DQV and though the plot eventually does it's own thing a lot of early game story elements are the same, for example you explore a haunted castle with your childhood friend like in DQV. Unlike DQV however the main character isn't a self insert, she has an actual personality that develops over the course of the story as she grows from a child to adult. Also unlike DQV her love interest is set in stone which it's much better off for. The original DQV didn't do a very good job of making you care for the other love interest so this game just dropped that aspect entirely in favor of just developing the MC's relationship with the girl she knew since she was young. It's a long one too, expect to spend about 30 to 40 hours on it. Another one I really liked was 恋々とする涙と夜に吹く風.. It's a story based one with the premise being what if Darkness I and Wind I were dating each other instead of the way the pairings are traditionally set up. It starts off silly but actually became really emotional by the end of it.

Also this one. It's a short story without any dialog so Japanese instead needed to enjoy it.

I'm a hoarder, I don't like selling items.
Still, the equipment that the game gives you is just as good or even better than the stuff you can buy at shops. I just feel like you'd have more """""build variety""""" if staffs and swords were more affordable from the get-go.
Also, does anything happen if you donate enough money to that orphanage near the fairy village?

So what's up with Black Bison and Green Sai?

I just reverse image searched the previous drawing of these two and found a Pixiv treasure trove of ship art for them. Kind of blew me away with how passionate the fanartists are, which really makes me wonder what makes the ship so popular.

Plus, it looks like the game they're from has a main cast of girls in color-coordinated uniforms? It looks fucking awesome. I'd devour this shit whole if I had the time to learn Japanese.

They're part of the gyokuro army. They first showed up as the villains in the game Gyokuro Fantasy which just had Ange Fire, Blizarudo, Rai Spark, and their leader The Ruler of Death. People liked them and started expanding on them which is how Green Sai, Black Bison, and others got added on, though the ones that usually get focus are Ange, Liza, Rai, Sai, and Bison. Their base of operations is also a giant loli golem named White House that can transform between loli mode and fortress mode.

The Sai/Bison pairing wasn't one that happened from the start but came about gradually. Bison was actually first depicted as a necrophiliac cannibal, but this got dropped really quickly. Unless it's from something really old you aren't going to see her like that. As for why it's one of the more popular VIPRPG yuri pairings I'd say it's both because they debuted at the same time and because they have a nice contrast going on. Sai is usually polite and respectful while Bison is apathetic, sarcastic and doesn't have any problems shit talking anybody right to their face with Sai usually being the one person that Bison is nice to. And also Sai's powers are based around plant life and often gets the healer role while Bison is a necromancer. The pairings for the other three varies a bit more though. I've seen yuri stuff for them, but I've also seen het stuff too. Like I've seen Ange and Rai get paired up before but I've also seen SS stuff with Rai. Liza also has something of a pairing with Yamiko from the Demon King's army. Usually it's a one sided obsession on Yamiko's part but there have been cases where it was mutual.
>>
>>3713078
Thanks for the rundown! I have only a very cursory understanding of VIPRPGs, but "giant loli golem HQ called White House" sounds like the exact kind of shitpost-turned-game I'd get a kick out of.

Do Sai and Bison get any yuri stuff in the games? Or is this more of a thing like Touhou, where fandom interpretations of characters and their relationship dynamics sometimes overtake "canon" itself (insofar as you can consider a web of RPG Maker games made by different internet randos the canon of Gyokuro Fantasy), and it's a pairing which gets all of its content through fanworks?

Also, is there any art of Yamiko and Liza? I'd search for it myself but I have no idea what the appropriate tags would be.

>Or is this more of a thing like Touhou, where fandom interpretations of characters and their relationship dynamics sometimes overtake "canon" itself, and it's a pairing which gets all of its content through fanworks?
Well the thing about VIPRPGs is that they are entirely community driven with music and art assets being shared openly for anyone to use. It's not like most other stuff where there is a clear line between official stuff and fan work and even though there is lore it's flexible and if you don't like some part of it then you don't have to acknowledge it if you don't want to. It's all originally based on shitposting after all. So even if two games have the same characters in the same pairing they can still be portrayed in a completely different way since creators won't always have the same ideas on how those characters and their relationships should be explored and if someone has an idea that is completely different from the norm then they're totally free to go for it. Like for example the main romance of ウォーターは俺の娘 is one between girls that normally never interact with each other and while the creator portrayed some characters as traditionally are they put their own unique spin on a lot of others.

But to answer your question. Yeah, there are games were Sai and Bison are paired together. They are a popular couple after all. In regards to Yamiko though I haven't found much fanart of her in general. I wouldn't say she's unpopular, but she definitely doesn't get as much attention as other characters.
