I still don't get why people hated the Sunshine finales so much. They're not especially good but they're far from the worst episodes of their respective season.

Only Sunshine and Niji ended their seasons with a sense of finality. Superstar's and OG's seasons ended with cheap cliffhangers.
>>
>>3738336
It's funny to have SS and Sunshine S2 perform so poorly in comparison, I wonder why?

>>3738375
>>3738433
to be fair Sunshine suffered from the "OG" syndrome of people hating the new series for simply not being O, SS1 receiving unfair complaints (even though the ending isn't particularly good) and SS2 deserving of any hate.
>>
>>3738453
Yeah, that's the same view I have. I liked OG just fine, but Sunshine S1 is really really good and what got me into the franchise, it was rough seeing people overhating it just because "it killed Muse". However, OG had S2 and the movie being so much better that first season, meaning it ended on a very high note. Sunshine had that superb first season and then... I guess I like Ruby's small arc in season 2 and the movie is not offensive, but things just kinda fizzled out.

Niji managed to be the first entry in the series that started well and got even better (not perfect, I still needed more conflict and big yuri moments in S2, but still). There's got to be more of it.

All I can hope for Superstar is that it doesn't become the series which started bad and got even worse, because frankly, it would be kinda hard to top the massive disappointment that S1 was.
>>
>>3738463
>it was rough seeing people overhating it just because "it killed Muse"
I'm used to that irrational hatred in long series, it happened in Yugioh, Pokemon, Digimon and even Power rangers (the first one is not the best in any of those, including LL)

>Sunshine had that superb first season and then...
that's what happens when fanservice is done badly, very badly.
That people don't see anything wrong with destroying characterization to adjust personal tastes (like a bad fanfic) is the real problem of the fandom.

>the movie is not offensive
the movie was super bland, the most memorable was the best version of You and more RubyLeah, ChikaRiko's attempts at fanservice were stupid and offensive, it felt like the staff would show up at any moment and say, "look, we still care about this shit "

>Niji managed to be the first entry in the series that started well and got even better
It's sad how consistent characterization and writing is more of an exception in this franchise than a rule.

> it would be kinda hard to top the massive disappointment that S1 was.
if "studio T" managed to make a sequel worse than the original (worse mistakes than the original) and the fans praised that, anything is possible.
>>
>>3737945
happy birthday to Love Live, this series has changed my life for the better and I'm glad that I met these girls, Ayumu even moreso
>>
>>3738433
The "recap" play itself was weird, but it was a satisfying enough conclusion. It was a celebration of everything that has happened during that season, not unlike Niji S1 and S2's finales. It wasn't as good as Niji's obviously, but I'd give them points for creativity.

Compare it with OG S1's finale where they forfeited the contest because Kotori and Honoka were retards.
Or OG S2's finale where the last part was literally an advertisement for the movie.
Or Superstar S1's finale where they just randomly lost and they expect us the audience to feel sad for them.

OG and Superstar's finales were manipulative and insulting in comparison.
>>
>>3738792
The recap was garbage sis. It felt awkward and out of place that they were able to do it in the middle of the LL performance. Like who let these retards do a dramatic reenactment of their lives first before performing.

At least OG S1 had Start:Dash where it mirrored their journey from ep 3, and they did it at their own school so they could've put on an entire fucking play and it wouldn't feel out of place.
>>
>>3738939
I think that a montage during the song would have been the right thing, that's something that a lot of series do without any problem.

Sunshine S1's ending was a creative decision. I can respect that. Besides that the characters were left in a relatively good place with an ambiguous yet hopeful ending.
Niji S1 and S2's endings also left the characters in a good place, had almost all of the plot threads wrapped up in neat little bows with only some little stuff dangling to be explored in a sequel.

The problem with OG S1 and Superstar S1's endings was that the characters were left in an explicitly bad place as a result of dumb drama at the eleventh hour. It made it seem as if everything that happened in the season was for nothing.
The problem with OG S2's ending was that it was a fucking shameless advertisement for the movie.

So what was the problem with Sunshine S2's ending? It ended conclusively and there wasn't any shameless advertisement this time so it was already infinitely better than OG S2's ending in my book.
It also had no play for people to complain about but for some reason it was terribly received all the same.
>>
>>3739034
>muh creative decision

You're blatant Sunshine bias is showing. Sunshine S1 ending was garbage.
>>
>>3739164
that anon lives in a world in which sunshine is a masterpiece, dunno why anons keep giving him (you)s when its fucking obvious the kind of anon he is
>>
>>3739164
As I said before, compared to the utter stupidity that lead to OG S1's ending, Sunshine S1's ending was a masterpiece.
I'd prefer a weird play every time over forced drama literally out of nowhere.
Note that I don't even like it that much. I'm making a comparison.

And so I'll ask this again. What did Sunshine S2's ending do wrong?
Even if we assume that Sunshine S1's ending was "bad" (it wasn't), then why was Sunshine S2's ending almost equally as hated as S1's?

Perhaps it's not me who has a blatant Sunshine bias, but it's the entire fandom as a whole who has blatant anti-Sunshine pro-OG bias.
>>
>>3739186
>absolutely no reading comprehension

I never even mentioned Sunshine S2, just that Sunshine S1 was also as garbage as most LL final episodes. My argument was never about Sunshine S2 because it was so unmemorable, I literally don't even remember what happened.

I also haven't watched Superstar so it could be also garbage as far as I know, but who cares. Niji finales have been pretty good at least.
>>
>>3739190
My original question was why Sunshine S1 and S2's finales were so poorly received compared to the other mainline series' finales.

Look at this >>3738336
Both of them had a 40-50 point difference to OG S1 and S2, and a 30 point difference to Superstar's.
(Let's ignore Niji's finales because Niji had the unfair advantage of having writers with functioning brains.)

If they're all equally as garbage, then what caused this difference? Again, in my opinion Sunshine S1 was the lesser garbage.
And let's be honest, did the fucking play alone merit this much hatred, or was it something else?
>>
>>3739195
Honestly, yes. I remember /a/ threads from when it aired, most people thought it was bad since it was so awkward and cringe.

The very last moments of the episode is what defines how it's received, exactly why you also hate OG S2's ending despite the beginning graduation bits being fine. Though people didn't mind it at the time since this was the first time we ever got confirmation that LL was becoming really big. Even big enough to get a movie, the seiyuus going to Kohaku, BD sales going through the roof, etc.

I personally stopped watching Sunshine S2 when it was airing midway and only caught up later so I don't know how it was received when it was aired so I don't have an opinion on it.
>>
>>3739197
I judge finales based on if it actually feels like a finale.

OG S1's finale felt like the writers were saying "their school was saved :D but the girls didn't win :( unless you buy the BDs of course :^)".
You haven't watched Superstar but it was basically the same thing but even worse. Yes, they actually did use the school in jeopardy plot for the third time. I don't know why either.

Superstar S1's finale though felt like the writers were trying to do something special to close the season with. Whether or not the execution landed, I appreciated the thought. It made it feel more like an honest finale.
In my opinion, it didn't deserve a 40 when OG's lazy ass generic finale that felt like the writers were holding the continuation of the story to ransom got a 90.
>>
>>3739210
>Superstar S1's finale though
*Sunshine S1's finale though

As a side note I fucking hate how both of them shorten to SS. Why can't they choose a different title?
>>
>>3739210
>unless you buy the BDs of course :^)

Not even sure what that means. I don't think you're understanding that LL was a sleeper hit at the time. S2 also wasn't announced till 3rd live so S1 was completed without a S2 in mind.

OG S1 was just an above average generic idol show at the time so if you're implying that the S1 finale was bait for S2, you're completely wrong. The reason why people liked OG in the first place was that it was unexpectedly good at the time. S2 was only announced after the 3rd live when they realized it ended up selling really well. BDs were even out of print for a while since they couldn't keep up with demand and didn't know that people would like this shit.
>>
>>3739282
No, it was clearly bait for S2. Imagine if S2 was never made and S1E13 was the last episode ever. Would you be satisfied with it?

Again, just because you have your conspiracy theory doesn't mean it's correct, especially considering that you weren't even at the fandom at the time. Stay delusional.
>>
>>3739425
frankly the ending of OG S1 didn't feel particularly conclusive, it looked like at that point they already had a second season secured.
In contrast to something like Bang Dream, that at the end of S1 the important points were concluded.
>>
>>3739428
No one gives a fuck if you think it wasn't conclusive enough or not. S2 wasn't planned from the very start and that's a fact.

Muse 3rd live is when the seiyuus pioneered crying at surprise announcements from staff. You couldn't get BDs for weeks when it first came out. The BD sales predication was that it'd be above the Manabi line, but not be the top selling anime of the season.
>>
>>3739430
plans can change midway, many series have the same thing happen to them when they are destined to conclude and are allowed to last longer.

The point is that OGS1 wasn't particularly conclusive if it was only going to be a 12-episode series, what you're saying just makes OG worse off for showing they weren't doing it right from the start.
>>
>>3739431
>source: my ass

My point is you like to pull shit out of your ass and present it as facts. S2 wasn't planned form the start.

Again, I don't give a fuck if you think OG S1 was bad and "inconclusive", clearly >>3738336 and the fact that this franchise still exists at all disagrees.
>>
>>3739434
I am not the anon with whom you started the discussion and I never said that S2 was planned from the beginning and it is not my fault that you do not know the numerous cases of series that continued beyond their initial plan.

Are you also not aware of series with poor sales that still got sequels (up to 3 or 4 seasons) for example a 2 season anime like Aikatsu Stars was a flop and S2 only existed to buy time while they tried to save the franchise with the next series.

the factors are too variable to generalize.
>>
>>3739436
My last reply was literally from you stating that >>3739431 >The point is that OGS1 wasn't particularly conclusive if it was only going to be a 12-episode series

Implying that S2 was always planned. Again backtracking cause you can't read for shit. At least provide more evidence than >b-but other franchises do it sometimes

Frankly the bar for idol shows was low as fuck at the time, but LL could've not had a S2 and die as just another irrelevant idolshit show like WUG.
>>
>>3739430
>>3739434
>>3739438
Nobody in this thread ever said anything about "S2 being planned from the start".

Not even that last anon.
>The point is that OGS1 wasn't particularly conclusive if it was only going to be a 12-episode series, what you're saying just makes OG worse off for showing they weren't doing it right from the start.
This sentence (which second half you conveniently cut out) doesn't imply that "S2 being planned from the start", but rather it implies that the writers were hacks for making an inconclusive shit ending to a show that didn't have a S2 planned from the start.

I really, really don't care for Superstar but they should've promoted the fact that the second season's premiering this week a bit more desu.

I didn't even know that it's going to air this Sunday until just now. There's like zero hype.
>>
>>3745702
It seemed strange to me that they compensated with the trailer of S2, after the car accident of 3 of the VA. The S2 trailer, seriously?

I can't wait for them to ruin (again) the "new favorite couple with no real bases", I know they will do something stupid but the intriguing thing is how they will do it.

>There's like zero hype.
To be fair, the mainline fandom was already pretty shallow, it's people glorifying fan material as if that's the real basis of the franchise, why bother with anime?
>>
>>3745702
>There's like zero hype
Blame Yohane and her brand new anime, after it was announced I felt like the fandom juat stopped caring about SS S2
>>
>>3746551
>>3746559
So Yoshiko finally did something good for the franchise?
>>
>>3746551
I try to distance myself from the fandom these days but I could tell people were burned out at the end of Superstar S1 (understandable, it sucked for the most part). Now imagine having any energy left after another solid Niji season...
>>
>>3746575
that's even funnier when you take into account the "novelty" of the (not very original) new members, of which only 2 called attention for poorly pre-defined "yuri gimmick"

more time between the 2 anime series maybe would have been better.

>after another solid Niji season
now I really wish even more that Niji continues indefinitely, being the spin-off it can do what the purists of the main line would not accept (such as consistent writing)
>>
>>3746582
only Aqoursfags and Liellafags who hates consistent writing
>>
>>3746582
>more time between the 2 anime series maybe would have been better

It honestly worries me how fast we're getting Superstar S2. @Yuyucow talked about the overworked Niji anime staff turning in a season two so fast and they had a year to do it. S2 of Superstar was announced shortly after the end of S1 (a month or two, I wanna say). That's not enough time to assess the good and bad of Superstar S1. And with little outside material to mine from, I'm not that optimistic for the storytelling of S2. Prove me wrong, because I really do want to love Superstar, but it's currently the weakest element from Liella. At least, shut up with the Muse references.
>>
>>3745716
>It seemed strange to me that they compensated with the trailer of S2, after the car accident of 3 of the VA. The S2 trailer, seriously?
They were probably going to show it as a surprise for the initially intended program but decided to announce it as compensation for canceling the stream.
>>3745702
I wouldn't say Lantis is under-marketing Superstar S2, but there does seem to be little hype for it. Probably a problem of airing two Love Live series so close to each other. But the wait for Niji S2 was way longer than Superstar S2. Fans were also curious how the Niji anime would handle the controversies of S2 of LLAS, which contributed to more speculation and anticipation. The discourse for Superstar S2 is bound to suffer with the episode sub delays issued by NHK.

I don't think people ever truly cared about Superstar S2.
I remember when S2 was unceremoniously announced a week after S1's finale, people were mostly just ambivalent about it.
It gained a bit more traction when the new characters were announced but after people realized that they were boring as fuck it died down again.

Contrast that with the insane amount of hopium that people were having about Niji S2, and are currently having about Niji S3.
With the Yoshiko anime thing, I think that people are simply glad to see Aqours in an anime again after 4 years of nothing. Can't really blame them.

Well that was one of the worst things I've ever watched.

>absolutely horrible pacing
>boring ass story
>godawful dialogue
>terrible new characters
and finally, no yuri to be found, again.

It seemed like so much happened, but actually nothing really happened in this episode. It didn't even feel like a proper first episode.

The only perhaps good thing about this shit is the insert song's visuals, but even then it's not at all impressive compared to Niji's or Sunshine's CG visuals. And the OP was just bad.
I didn't expect this season to be good, but I didn't expect it to be this bad either. I can't make something as bad as this even if I try,

>>3747844
Yeah they had to ruin that potential ship with that too. Literally the only potentially good thing about the new characters, but the writers had to copy muse again with this one huh. They even copied the "barely any screentime" part of that particular ship too, I guess,
>>
>>3747926
Hey, you're finally here!
>>
>>
>>
I personally didn't like the overuse of "muh wacky faces" and those extreme comedic situations, it seems like they're a crutch for the writer to just fill time, which shouldn't be fucking needed in a CGDCT anime.

I will withhold judgment for the meanwhile, at least until the new girls are all introduced
>>
>>3748072
Love Live isn't a CGDCT anime. It's supposed to be a school drama with some sort of plot going on.

Honestly, that fact makes the wacky faces shit seem even more out of place. And yeah, they are just using it to fill time.
This episode could be condensed to just 4 minutes if they remove all of the filler. Like, fuck they even used the useless "Previously on Love Live" bit even though this was the first fucking episode.
>>
>>3748081
>Like, fuck they even used the useless "Previously on Love Live" bit even though this was the first fucking episode.
it also doesnt help that they superstars have an extre ed section that also consumes the little time we have per episode, I just hope they tone down wacky faces because I dont want them to become the annoying catchphrases that we got in sunshine or ala pripara ( although in pripara case is a show for little girls so that might be an exception) , I want to believe they wanted to take it easy with the first episode and that the next episode is back to business
>>
>>3748090
The Liella no Uta segment uses the time that would've been otherwise allotted for ads; otherwise the episode (including OP/ED/PV) is 23:40, the same as other LL eps
>>
>>3748090
If this was them "taking it easy" then I don't want to see them being serious business because holy shit was this episode rushed. Rushed with no sense of direction or purpose whatsoever.

Not to sound like a broken record, but look at Niji S2's first episode. Even though it had 13 characters, they still managed to reintroduce everything in a calm, comprehensible manner. And then they established the changing dynamics and the main plot of the season, again in a calm, structured, and comprehensible manner.

Here, they couldn't even be bothered to reintroduce stuff so they used the fucking recap segment to do it. Everything else was a jumbled mess of wall of text dialogue and "comedy".

Then what I expected would happen happened.
So that pre-cancon nonsense doesn't really work, without the real dynamics of the characters, the fans are just assuming too hard.

I'll probably be late watching the episode, so until then for my complaints.
>>
I'm fine with MeiShiki being like HimaSaku, but I've seen some some people being a bit disappointed since they expected them to be like YuPomu.
I was a bit cautious on that front since despite that line in Shiki's character profile, neither they or their seiyuu were being marketed in the same way that Yu&Ayumu and Hinaki&Agupon are.

Like for example pre Niji anime airing, the first moving images we saw of Yu&Ayumu were of Ayumu hugging a Yu Neso and the finger kiss scene.
Night and day difference.
>>
>>3748272
they either realized that they couldn't compete with YuuPomu or they didn't have any intention of following the dengeki introduction and just did it to get some yurifags latched to a new girl pairing

Notice that Shiki never references beetles in this episode, so I'm inclined to believe B is what actually happened
>>
>>3748272
im also ok with the himasaku dynamic just wonder what theyre gonna do with kinako, natsumi and ren
also im hoping for the episode in which sumire finally makes kuku her bitch which I expect it will be around when the whole china plot finally begins
>>
>>3748272
>some some people being a bit disappointed since they expected them to be like YuPomu.
That's why I hate the preconceptions of this fandom, you need to see the dynamics of the characters first and thus support the couple if you like how they are, not adjust the couple to your personal tastes.
YuPomu was not something delivered in a single episode, it was something that was seen during S1 and came to a good confirmation, to have S2 and reaffirm why they work so well.

>>3748280
>they didn't have any intention of following the dengeki introduction and just did it to get some yurifags latched to a new girl pairing

that's exactly what the main line does best, having no fucking idea what they do.

I don't see the episode and I'm already disappointed, was it so difficult that the first episode was a re-introduction and the following episodes a correct introduction to each new girl?
>>
If his work on Rina's episode was any indication, I hope that Takahiko Kyougoku can at least deliver a solid Shiki episode since both characters same similar introvert traits. Unless they decided to make Shiki le wacky scientist.
https://twitter.com/Yuyucow/status/1325166668620865537
>>
>>3748374
This Yuyucow person is an idiot. Storyboarding the episode doesn't mean that he directed it.
The episode's writer's the one who made the story be what it is and it's the director who directed it, not the fucking storyboarder.

And there was absolutely nothing "OG Love Live" about Rina's episode. It was the exact opposite.

>when the whole china plot finally begins
Will they investigate into the Tiananmen massacre and discover Keke is a CCP spy?
>>
>>3748475
You're seriously undermining the influence a storyboard artist has on a visual medium like anime.
>>
>>3748586
What influence did he make? Do you seriously believe that whoever was responsible for Rina's episode is the same person who directed the mess that was (and still currently is) Superstar.

And he's not even the episode director. While sometimes the storyboarder (絵コンテ) and episode director (演出) is the same person, it wasn't in Rina's episode.
It was ほりうちゆうや, who went on to become Niji S2's assistant director.
The sakuga autist couldn't even get the facts straight.
>>
I've just watched the episode and that was certainly something I guess? It felt like they wanted to make a proper S2 episode with the recap but also they wanted to make a first episode that can be watched without prior knowledge of S1, it was weird. Also now I ship Kinako with Natsume and even if MeiShiki csn be compared with HimaSaku it felt mote like a functional SumiKeke with their older married couple vibe they have (SumiKeke instead feels like a older couple with a abusive wife and her submissive partner)
>>
>>3748617
Who's Natsume? Orange hair?

>even if MeiShiki csn be compared with HimaSaku it felt mote like a functional SumiKeke with their older married couple vibe they have (SumiKeke instead feels like a older couple with a abusive wife and her submissive partner)
You're thinking of the boomer joke version of how older married couples act.
Actual happily married older couples actually enjoy each other's company, not act as if they can't stand each other instead.
It pisses me off that the only scene blue hair and red hair have with each other, it's them acting like they hate each other's guts.
I never expected a YuuPomu. Not from these people. But at least they could've tried to portray a normal friendly relationship. But instead they made another NicoMaki because of course they had to copy Muse again.
>>
>>3748689
>Who's Natsume?
Natsumi sorry. The "L-tuber"
>it's them acting like they hate each other's guts.
I disagree, they seem to be comfotable enough to say those things to each other and not like SumiKeke with Keke critizicing almost everything that Sumire says or does.
>they made another NicoMaki
Well third time is the charm in this case, they feel more like NicoMaki than the NicoMaki of the anime.
>>
>>3748689
>Actual happily married older couples actually enjoy each other's company
It's sad how some people don't realize that, a relationship that shows real love between them is better than just being together because the script says so.

>I never expected a YuuPomu. Not from these people.
Another problem is people pretending that Kanon and Chisato have the same dynamic as YuuPomu, when in fact they don't have any dynamic.
What I want to say is that the criteria of the fans of the main line in terms of a couple, is broken.

>But instead they made another NicoMaki because of course they had to copy Muse again.
If that impressionistic crap works not once, not twice, but 3 times with dumb people, why not 4 times already? And it's funny when Niji doesn't have that stupid dynamic and all the couples (even the weakest ones) are better than those 4 combined.

>>3748698
>SumiKeke with Keke critizicing almost everything that Sumire says or does.

the problem is that Sumire is a bitch in those moments, so the hate is somewhat justified, but the script (just like OG) justifies that attitude with personal frustrations, the logic is "everyone has to sympathize with me even if I'm an idiot with the other people, because I'm sad"
>>
>>3748735
>the problem is that Sumire is a bitch in those moments, so the hate is somewhat justified
Sumire didn't act annoying even once in this episode though. She didn't do much of anything this episode besides getting insulted by Keke for no reason at all.

I have no idea why they're writing Keke like this. I guess they think bullying is funny for some reason, but now Keke's only personality besides being a chink is being an asshole.
>>
>>3748738
That's how Super Stars writing works in general, so it's not uncommon for Keke to have that attitude.

>She didn't do much of anything this episode besides getting insulted by Keke for no reason at all.

I think even the writers forget what the dynamic of the characters is and they only remembered the Keke part.
>>

>I have no idea why they're writing Keke like this
I think that's the way they want to portray the stress of all the "returning to China" thing. Yes it is retarded and it makes Keke seem like a abusive bitch but they like it for some reason.
>>
>>3748756
this is sad, but it was something to be expected.

What a mess of a first episode. Like... I don't even know what to say. It just jumped from scene to scene until the final song.

Kinako is harmless and I kinda want to protect her, but what an awful way to introduce Red and Blue. They made the L-tuber look decent in comparison.

Chisato and Ren are still literal whos, Keke is still a ruthless bully, Sumire has fat thighs and Kanon is the one trying to save the sinking ship that is this show.

Like the onee-san above said, comparing this absolute mess of a premiere with Niji S2E1 is like night and day. Is every single one of the people involved in Superstar this incompetent? Season 1 at least had three or four decent episodes. I fear this season won't even manage to have a single one. If we're not getting yuri, give me at least some scraps of enjoyment.

Btw, any other shows this season that look promising? I'm still finishing stuff from the previous one.
>>
>>3748922
>Kanon is the one trying to save the sinking ship that is this show.
That is the saddest part of all Super Stars, Kanon feels like the only saving grace of a group of characters with no real characterization, who are only good for padding fan material, that is not a good thing, no matter what some want to believe .
>>
>>3748922
>Sumire has fat thighs

Kuku doesn't deserve to be choked by those humongous thighs, one of the new girls better apply for the position
>>
>>3748922
The problem is almost entirely on the writing end. The art, music, seiyuus are mostly fine.
The OP's CG looks really cheap though and the choreography's boring.

>>3749001
Kanon doesn't have much of a character either. She just exists to do everything and to be praised by everyone for being oh so perfect. She's just a boring Mary Sue.
>>
>>3749081
>Kanon doesn't have much of a character either. She just exists to do everything and to be praised by everyone for being oh so perfect. She's just a boring Mary Sue.

That has to be the worse reading of Kanon's character I have ever heard
>>
>>3749088
So what's a better reading? She literally does almost everything in the show. Let's see

>S1E1: She's the one who started the idol thing with Keke (fair)
>S1E3: She and Keke overcame their anxiety and did the live thing (fair)
>S1E4: She's the one who convinced Sumire to join them with that charm thing that makes no sense (bad)
>S1E6: She talked their problems out with Chisato (fair)
>S1E7: All the others minus Sumire begged her to run for president against Ren because she's so perfect. (bad)
>S1E8: She's the one who solved Ren's mother secret lock box thing that makes no sense (bad)
>S1E9: She's the one who came up with the group name (bad)
>S1E11: All the others begged her to be the center because she's so perfect. And then her only character flaw, her anxiety, magically disappears because she really is that perfect (bad)
>S2E1: She's the main player who convinced brown hair what's her name to join for some reason (bad)

The only time when she took a backseat was in S1E10 the Sumire and Keke episode. She's the main driver for almost all of the other episodes, resolving all of the problems with solutions that don't make sense.

The most infuriating part of her is how the others treat her as this perfect human being who's the best at everything. And they're right because the show actually does write her as perfect.
Her only flaw was her anxiety thing, but that was suddenly resolved in episode 11. She didn't need any of the other's help. She just had to believe in herself because she's just that perfect. Now she truly is without any flaws whatsoever.

She's basically the anti-Sumire. Everything she does is right and she's the best. Everything Sumire does is wrong and she's the worst. There is no nuance to Superstar's writing.

I finally watched episode 1 and it wasn't interesting at all, the new girls aren't impressive at all, but considering the 5 girls aren't impressive at all either, they blend together somehow.

Kinako felt like a rushed, ugly version of Zuramaru, Red and Blue feels like one-note jokes with a terrible intro and L-tuber only exists to introduce a new bitch or take that trait away from Sumire, because for crying out loud, SumiKeke was just terrible and disgusting.

Another problem with the episode was the exaggeration with the "tell, don't show"

If Kanon was a "Mary Sue" or what ever definition you think Mary Sue is, did you completely forget the entire arc of her getting stage fright? It's fine if you don't like as a character for some reason, but let's not misinterpret her entire character arc.
>>
>>3750918
No, I didn't forget.

>>3749098
>Her only flaw was her anxiety thing, but that was suddenly resolved in episode 11. She didn't need any of the other's help. She just had to believe in herself because she's just that perfect. Now she truly is without any flaws whatsoever.

The dumbest part was how the entirety of the first part of her arc (episodes 1-3) was directly rendered meaningless by one line of dialogue in episode 11, and that the real solution to her problem was this load of BS.
>>
>>3750918
>you completely forget the entire arc of her getting stage fright?
you mean a problem that was ignored until they decided it was important again?

stop ignoring the over dependence that SS has on Kanon, it's as if everything had to go through her and the other characters if they do something for the group or it's off camera or directly something stupid.

>>3750937
the resolution they gave him was not the "we all believe in Kanon" that the staff intended, instead it was to throw Kanon into the lion's den and see what happens.

you could say that Kanon is the only character and the rest of the girls are either one-note jokes, walking tropes or just plain eye candy (that's why she's a mary sue)
>>
>>3751030
>the resolution they gave her was not the "we all believe in Kanon" that the staff intended, instead it was to throw Kanon into the lion's den and see what happens.
It won't solve all of that episode's problems, but having the others directly say that to her (say that they believe in her) would've made it a lot better.
Instead, they made this convoluted plot of them trapping Kanon into doing it that no sane human being would've ever done.
>>
>>3751067
It can be compared to similar problems in Niji, where things are solved more coherently, in SS everything would have worked better if the other girls really couldn't be with Kanon because of real problems and not just force her for cheap sentimentality (things that seem to be SS characteristic)

Just watched it.

The pacing wasn't as horrible as it was in the first episode.
The story was boring. Just a generic school club plot.
The season's story is still directionless. The new girl at the end might either fix this or make it even worse.
Keke was still a bitch to Sumire for no reason at all.
Red and Blue's relationship looks better now but their respective gimmicks are already getting old.

Agreed on the pacing and Red and Blue being better. I thought the new girl at the end was going to be Keke's sister at first, but that would be lame even for this current gen. Speaking of Keke, if they keep making her a bully (and a repetitive one at that, if the writers want to make her a bitch at least give her new mean things to say), by the time her drama arc of going back to China starts, nobody will give a shit. Even the small SIF stories with Liella! managed to make SumiKeke okay, how hard it can be?

Also, I'm afraid the ED is going to be the closest thing we get to yuri this season.

Directionless? It's freakin' natural that the club is struggling to attract new members because they're seen as "too good" so they lessen the burden. It's a good struggle.
>>
>>3752726
A generic idol club plot like that won't carry a season.

It's so unbearably generic. There's nothing to this plot that's specific to the characters. You can swap all the characters with new ones and literally nothing will have to change.

Literally who cares about the plights of this generic ass school idol club with the most generic ass characters who are all so "great" everybody's scared of them.

Even these hack writers seem to realize that this plot won't hold since they're introducing that new mystery girl now.

that would work if it wasn't clearly an excuse to waste the episode on integrating the new girls, in contrast to the gradual and genuine way Niji brought in 3 new main characters and the old ones were still important (even supporting characters)

I wish everything related to Liella wasn't so ridiculously designated, everyone treats them like a super group full of prodigies, when the series has shown them to be mediocre at best, even Aqours felt more jenuine (even with Yoshiko)

With the second episode I realized that they were able to use the episode for Keke's character development instead of making her a bully towards Sumire and making Sumire equal to or more "soft" than Shisato and Ren.

I also have a feeling that introducing a new rival, just because nobody gave a shit about Sunny Passion, if something doesn't work then throw more characters at the wall to see what happens?

>I wish everything related to Liella wasn't so ridiculously designated, everyone treats them like a super group full of prodigies
Yeah this reminds me of how they treated Muse as this perfect group without any flaws whatsoever in their S2 and movie. Yet another part of Muse that they're copying I guess.
>>
>>3755207
Of course, I had forgotten about that, the way A-rise treated them like super rivals (even when in S2 they were at their worst) and also that was the only sin of Sunshine S1 of raising a little too much Muse and ignoring that they were basically a running joke, especially in S2 and movie.

Sunshine in the end treated her groups more consistently and even the group's rivals were other competitors at a similar level to them and not super idols like A-rise or Aikatsu Passion.

It's actually a 90 minute buffet plan with a price tag of 7,300 yen.
The normal buffet plan without the Love Live knick-knacks already costs 5,500 yen, so the price of the collab is just 1,800 yen which is relatively reasonable I guess.
Honestly you just get used to seeing these prices.

The truly loaded people will go for the actual hotel room collab which costs around 20,000 yen (the room price) + 5,000 yen for the Love Live collab knick-knacks.

Lately, a lot of the LL fanartists that I follow on Twitter are making LycoReco art for some reason.
I heard good things about it so I checked it out. And indeed it was pretty good and gay.

But my main takeaway from watching it is how fucking boring Superstar S2 is. Like holy shit it's almost like they're deliberately trying to make the most generic idol anime imaginable.

I want to see how they handle Red and Blue so I'll probably watch next week's episode, but I'm probably going to drop this after that.
Unless that episode's as gay as the Azuna fanfic episode but that's not happening considering Superstar's track record.
>>
>>3756343
>But my main takeaway from watching it is how fucking boring Superstar S2 is.
SS has never been a good entry in the franchise, that S1 was a compact version of the bad of OG and Sunshine did not bode well for S2, which is being what you would expect from SS.

>Like holy shit it's almost like they're deliberately trying to make the most generic idol anime imaginable.
the sad part is that there are other idol series this season and they work honestly better than SS which can't even deliver on the yuri part which is what should matter in LL (which only Niji really implemented well)

>I want to see how they handle Red and Blue
is the main line, they can only be decent at best and with the logic of "fuck canon, I have fanart" is there any reason for the staff to even try?

I didn't have much hope for Sunshine S2 (was a salty 5fag) until this Stacy's introduction. Unlike the 4 newbies that were announced from the start, that she just appeared without warning and then got a live performance on her debut was cool. Now, nothing against the new girls even if I'm a former 5fag, but that they were announced in advance and we knew they were all joining regardless just made watching the show into a checklist. Kanon's future wife was a legitimate surprise that really throws a big curveball into where the plot is going. More importantly, she actually gives me hope for Kanon's character. I really hope she tries to steal Kanon from Lielia, because she clearly thinks Kanon is better than her teammates.
>>
>>3756498
I agree. Everything else this season is so utterly boring and formulaic except for the few minutes where she showed up. I'm not sure if she's enough to carry the entire season though.

although I hope this is what TsubaHono never was, a real thing and not an excuse couple to remove Honoka from the group.

Let's be honest, Chisato and Ren are fucked. S2 already has too much going, including the introduction of another 3 characters, Keke being dragged back to China by the CCP, SunnyPa's retirement and now Wein's introduction and her fixation on Kanon. The fact that Wein feels like one of those Precure villain girls that end up joining the Precure after being befriended by the MC makes things even worse for her, since I think there's a good chance Wein is just being set up to join Yuigaoka in S3 depending on how hard they go with her Kanon thing (and she totally looks like a Virgo).

Yeah, Margarethe is a welcomed surprise. I'm actually interested in where S2 of Superstar is going now. She's a big course correction of one of the problems S1 had (weak rivals), so I'm interested to see where this goes. However, it is hilarious how she entirely mogged Liella (the new girls, in particular), in-universe and IRL. (Her MV is already getting higher views than the new Liella song). I hope there's more to her than saying "Shibuya Kanon."
>>3756632
>What bothers me is that Kanon would be given even more prominence at the expense of the other characters, who at this point are simple one-note jokes without irony, backup dancers.
True. I don't like that Margarethe is obsessed with Kanon and Kanon alone. It's not justified. At least make it Kanon and Keke, since they had their "Tiny Stars" performance that went viral. It just feels like another example of Kanon doing everything -- and it's even more ridiculous now that there are nine Liella girls.
>>
If Liella can pull off a performance that surpasses her in every way especially if it's not another pop song, then S2 is really worth it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qmLnVCXQgY
>>
>>3756684
Honestly, the girl feels like a chinese knockoff of Lanzhu and the song feels like a chinese knockoff of Eutopia.
The animation looks stiff compared to the Niji anime's solo MVs. I thought Superstar's the one that had more budget though.
>>
>>3756689
the fuck are you talking about, her song feels more like a revue starlight or belle thing with the musical-like melody and lyrics and her ballet dancing.
>>
Most of Lanzhu's MV, and most of Niji's solo MVs, is posing and stills. It's cool posing and stills, but let's be real, that's what they are. They have more of a music video feel in general. Superstar has mostly just gone for normal performances.
>>
>>3756691
I primarily meant the role that the song plays in the story and the "I'm better than you all" lyrics.

And no it doesn't really sound like a revue starlight song either.
>>
>>3756689
NTA but to be fair her performance seems to be more "ballet like" but yeah the coreography feels less dinamic in S2 than in S1. It's kind of funny but maybe the reason is to nerf them a little so they can win over Wein without forcing it too much.
Also it is funny how Kanon is pretty much a harem MC right now, first it was Keke, then Chisato and now Kinako and Wein, kek
>>
>>3756699
But because of that they're way more interesting to watch than Superstar's MVs.
Even Sunshine sometimes did stuff like inserting story-related stills/scenes in the MVs. Superstar's MVs feels very barebones in comparison.

The music composition sounds like out of a musical, she is wearing a flashy Black Swan villain outfit, and the song has lyrics that are part of the story with her basically challenging Kanon to come and get her. In general, though, she is not supposed to be a Lanzhu. Because Lanzhu was announced as a member of the group from the start and the audience knew that she was to join, so she was treated like part of the main cast, getting a CG model, a full solo, etc. on her debut. She might join Lielia in the future, but Wien literally came out of nowhere, stalked Kanon and debuted with a full song that had similar production values to one of the main characters. You know what's the right comparison point? A-RISE's Private Wars, Saint Snow's Self Control, and SunnyPa's Hot Passion, and regardless of how you feel about the song, the presentation isn't even remotely comparable. A-RISE and Saint Snow had decent performances, but they weren't given the same level of care as the main cast's and the lack of CG models limited them to very stiff dances. SunnyPa got like 5 seconds of dancing. Wien had a CG model from her debutl A-RISE never got one, SunnyPa doesn't have one, and SS didn't get one until they performed with Aquors in episode 9 of S2.
>>
>>3756709
I don't disagree; even the original Love Live had some MV-like insert songs. Superstar is the first season that's basically just normal performances. I'm just saying that what they're doing is different.
>>
>>3756712
She's an arrogant foreigner like Lanzhu, a 14 year old like Mia, has clocks motifs on her song and said song uses mostly traditional instruments like Shioriko's. Maybe you're right on presentation, but character-wise she's R3BIRTH as a single character - much like people indicated that Sunny Passion was meant to be an Aqours callback

Since Superstar is more little girl anime-ish than previous Love Lives, I wouldn't be surprised if Margaret is just their version of the villain that joins the group. Even just looking at her design in comparison to the others, it has more of a main character vibe than previous rivals, who look very much like ascended mobs. Saint Snow were given new designs once they got popular and started getting their own MVs and single releases.
>>
>>3756699
Not just stills though. A lot of the non-CG parts were fully animated scenes.
>>
>>3756718
True, but it wasn't dancing. It was stuff like Lanzhu taking a bath or looking cool in the subway. Almost all of the dancing was CG.
>>
>>3756719
Well, of course? The usage of CG for dance scenes in anime has always been a cost-cutting measure.

I've always liked how in the Niji MVs, it's more like a 2D hand-drawn music video with 3DCG dancing scenes added as a bonus.
In the other series' MVs, it's mostly 3DCG dancing with sometimes 2D hand-drawn closeup scenes added in.
Oh god I remember how terrible the early MVs looked whenever those jarring 3DCG-2D switches happen. The CG is so much better nowadays.
>>
>>3756725
Yeah, the one thing that Superstar doesn't fail is looking good. I almost forget it's CG sometimes. The day we get this level of animation quality and good writing like Niji or the best moments of Sunshine S1 all into one package, we will be eating good, sisters.

Until then, let's suffer thru Keke being mean to Sumire for no reason pt. 451

No actually, I think that Niji's CG looks way better than Superstar's CG. Not just the presentation but the actual quality.
Superstar's is very stiff-looking and you can more easily tell where the CG starts and ends. It's not as bad as Muse's obviously, but it still looks a bit jarring.
Niji's CG on the other hand is so much more dynamic and blends better with the 2D.
I think that Superstar's CG got even worse in S2. The only good-looking one was last episode's purple hair's song. All of the group insert songs and even the OP looks very meh.

No even late Sunshine's CG looks better than Superstar's imo. The other day I saw some of the movie MVs in a collab cafe. If I didn't know it, I'd thought that Sunshine is the newer one.
