Is there a place where I can find the mobile game's CG without the text?
>>3758581Apparently OP went and got himself falsely banned by a mod for ban evasion.
A question for you veterans of the series: I played Gensou Shoujo Taisen Complete Box without any prior Touhou knowledge and was amazed by the quality writing, likeable characters and strong yuri undertones. But then I read all the official manga and was disappointed to find that, in comparison, most characters come off as self-centered and uncaring towards even those who are supposedly close to them, not to mention the yuri or lack thereof.I've never played the official games since I can't stand shooters, but is the characterization similar to the manga? Is this franchise actually only good in fan works?
>>3763944>most characters come off as self-centered and uncaring towards even those who are supposedly close to them>Is this franchise actually only good in fan works?Pretty much. ZUN's writing is peculiar and I personally can't stand it. Forbidden Scrollery is the only Touhou manga I enjoyed, mostly because of Kosuzu being such an enjoyable character. Characterisation in the games is limited only to a few dialogues pre and post battle (most of which consist of trash-talking or making pop-culture references the characters couldn't possibly know about), although the endings show a more laid-back side of the characters (you'd be hard-pressed to find them online since ZUN asked not to upload them). But in general terms, fanworks are the life and blood of Touhou. It's not the kind of franchise where canon is sacred, but the kind that artists use as a sandbox to explore various characters and ideas. If you're not interested in the games, it's better to read Perfect Memento in Strict Sense and the official character profiles to get an idea of the setting and characters.
Is it possible to consider oneself into Touhou when all you know about it is thanks to doujinshi and you never played a single one of the games?
>>3764580Possibly, but you should read the infobooks (Perfect Memento in Strict Sense and Symposium of Post-Mysticism), and at try to play at least on game on Easy.
>>3764590>read the infobooks (Perfect Memento in Strict Sense and Symposium of Post-Mysticism)Will do that.>try to play at least on game on EasyWhich one do you recommend?
>>3764634>Which one do you recommend?I guess Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, since it's the first one of the Windows era and the one who introduced the most popular characters. Compared to all the later games, it's a straighforward shoot 'em up with no gimmicks. The only problem is that the game ends before the final stage if you play on Easy, so if you care about beating it, you have to git gud and play it on Normal. But at least it should give you a good idea of how the games are.
>>3764663Thanks anon. Hopefully Easy mode really is easy because I can't into shmups.
>>3764634touhou 8 (imperishable night) is the easiest, you should be able to beat it on easy. just remember to hold shift to slow down and make your movements more precise when needed.
>>3764682I guess Imperishable Night is technically the easiest, but the human-youkai switching mechanic puzzles me to this day. Also, Youmu's shot type sucks.
