Signalis thread.
I'm shocked it took this long for someone to make a dedicated Signalis thread.
>>3879205I was surprised too.
>>3879205It was getting a lot of good mileage in the game thread, but yeah it could probably sustain one good thread.
Is this game worth playing if I have no patience to sit down for more than 3 minutes without shooting at anything or beat a 2+ hour game?
Finally, a SIGNALIS thread. What a great game, I should get on with getting the secret ending.
>>3879025The name goes in the subject field, retard.
>>3879316If you don't have the patience, probably not. You might try it and just get a refund on Steam if you can't get into it.
>>3879582is this game depressing
>>3879583Yes.
I would pay triple-A prices for these devs, including artists, to make a /u/ related Blame! game.
Let's live it up a bit. Is there some kind of consensus about what the fuck is happening in Signalis? I do have some theories/bits of information that look like they are established and solid, but I never discussed it online and don't know if someone smart figured everything out. And no, "it's all a dream" theory sucks ass.
>>3881787I'm not really sure, I interpreted it as Ariane having a fever dream while dying from radiation sickness after being sent on a pointless suicide mission with Elster in a space ship, but her psychic abilities making it "real" I haven't gotten the real ending yet, just the bad one so far so I don't even have the full picture so I'm probably wrong.
>>3881787Pain induced bioresonant event. Arianne can effect the world with her brain to some extent, and the pain of dying allowed this effect to become more powerful. So I think she is struggling with herself and wants Elster to save her, so she makes it a reality in some twisted way. I am pretty positive she is still alive in all of the endings.
>>3879025There's a dreadful lack of video games where yuri is a core aspect of the game and it's not just a visual novel, so I'm grateful this exists.
>>3881873So, why wasn't Arianne on Penrose, when Elster woke up? Is she the one who loop the world? Why Elster is the only one who "leave a trace" between loops? I mean, piles of corpses and all that. Why does Elster start at the highest level of Sierpinski fascility if the crash landing is literally on the opposite side of that moon?
Unfortunately, I didn't read many files and watched the endings on youtube and my mind is crowded with different opinions on the endings - I subscribed to the Arianne is dying, very, very slowly and painfully, so she is calling all Replikas in the galaxy to help her killing her, we play some of the Elster Replika units, driven by the memory of her lover (don't know if the original Elster was in love with Arianna herself or with the redhaired Elster unit from the picture and arianna is just using this memory to drive her - similar to Isa being driven to find her sister)... those who fail (when we die) are the corpses along the way and then we come across 4 endings - 3 of them canon, either failing and becoming one of the corpses at the end, semi-failing and reaching Arianne but not "fulfilling the promise" and just chilling with her and slowly dying (leaving arianne alive) and semi-winning, actually killing her and dying together. The secret ending is very cryptic, some sort of a ritual, where the Elster unit takes charge of the cycles and relives the happy memories until eternity - can be interpreted as happy end in my opinion, even though some corruption is shown Nonetheless it seems to be deliberately obscure with the whole concept of cycles and bioresonant realities. I think this makes it so interesting.
>>3879262The final unresolved mystery of Signalis: was Isa a siscon?
>>3884131yes
Happy there's a Signalis thread. I also hope that most of the events in the game were real. I don't like "it was a dream" type stories. I wish there was a super alternate universe where Elster and Ariane and all the Itous are having a peaceful time together instead of the endless suffering.I guess it just goes to show that yuri has an affinity for suffering. I haven't completed the secret ending yet, only got one ending so far. The one where Elster can't follow through on her promise and leaves the ship. I don't usually play horror games so my excuse is that I was too cautious.
The esthetics give me a string Blame! vibes.
>>3881787Dreams within dreams. The only moment that can truly be seen as reality is the opening of the game before the elster passes through the gate.
>>3882401I personally think Arianne is long dead, and the 'Arianne' that Elster meets in all the endings is actually Alina, who's been turned into an Arianne replacement, which explains how she can be awake in the endings and not fucking bald, toothless and dying at the end while sporting the same band-aids she had all over herself when she was in Leng and Nowhere. This also would explain why if Elster progressed too fast and didn't die (and thus awaiting another iteration of Elster to arrive) and reached the Memory ending, Alina hasn't completed her transformation into Arianne, hence not recognizing Marianne's name when Elster calls her, while in Promise, she's had enough time to be assimilated into Arianne's persona and thus remembers.
>>3885980Isn't Elster's original gestalt Isa's mother or aunt or something?
>>3886310You. I like you. Finally someone who says something interesting. Signalis is great but I hate how it doesn't answer questions, the most it gives is "maybe your theory is right. And yes,"muh dream" is bullshit.
>>3886244Gay sex jumpscare.
>>3886313presumably, but they don't know that
>>3886400The best kind of jumpscare.
I had a dream last night where Elster was in a Wal-Mart parking, she was wearing a cute light orange sweater and laughing her head off like she heard the funniest joke in the world. A pair of other androids who she was friends with were approaching her but she had no time for them and ran to the other end of the parking lot to her car where she popped the trunk open to find a few mechanical pencil leads and the lower half of another orange sweater. She smiled to herself and sat down to knit the rest of the sweater to give as a gift to Ariane on their next date, then I woke up.Thank you for reading my blog.
>>3887017Make it a full fic and put it up on Ao3. Do it.
I keep thinking about this game here and there and I wish Elster could be happy. FUCK
>>3887760That's what the Ritual ending is for, nee-chan. It's the one ending where she and Ariane can finally be together. Also, do I detect a potential sequel hook with the Ritual ending? The artifact, which isn't even mentioned in the game and isn't seen until you get the ending, could play a part in a much bigger story.
>>3887867The Ritual ending is a nod to a short story in "The King in Yellow", where a dude discovers a liquid that turns everything into marble - the first thing he uses, was a lily (familiar?) - later his dying girlfriend bathes in the liquid to turn herself into marble, everyone thinking she's dead - when in fact it preserved her (kinda similar to Arianne in the tank). In the end the girl came back to life as she were. Which for me implied that the Lily-Ending or Ritual-Ending is a good ending.
I love it when items or equipment add to a game's yuri factor.
any other games/manga/hentai like this? its such a pure robolove
this game feels like va11halla, at least with how it's received if that makes sense. might just be because of the artstyle
>>3889531There's Koukaku no Pandora and Tonari no Robot for robolove, also "Does It Count if Your First Time Is With an Android?" for something more lewd. Kimi to Sekai no Owari wo Tazunete seems like it has potential but there's not much out. It gets harder to find something that combines the atmosphere presented in Signalis that also has robot yuri. There's some oneshots that have suffering like The Promise I Made to Eve but it's not quite the same thing. There's Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Blame! which are some obvious non-yuri inspirations for this game.
>>3889617thanks for the list anon!

>>3893089So does Falke represent the culmination of Arianne and Elster's love? Isn't she a bit of both of them?
>>3894600She's like the culmination of Elster's insecurities and doubts, the last roadblock Elster has to overcome before fulfilling (or trying to fulfill) the promise. She gets mindfucked and has Elster's feelings flooding into her head, but she doesn't have the full picture and authentic experience of that love which is why I think she sounds so paranoid and doubtful when confronted. Kind of a neat alternative to there being some kind of Elster mirror-match although I gotta feel sorry for Falke getting caught up in all this.
>>3894600It seems like Falke represents Eslster's fear that Ariane no longer loves her or won't forgive her for being unable to fulfill her promise. >>3895010>get mindfucked and find yourself slowly turned into someone else>have someone elses memories intertwined with your owndesu from his perspective Adler seems justified in the actions he takes throughout the story.
Nice thread.
>>3893102Is Elster really fingering Arianne or is she actually fingering Alina here?
>>3886244>>3886400Extremely checked.
Just beaten this game on Survival a second time, died nearly thirty times but I got the keys to get both the Artifact ending and the Promise.I think I understand what's going on, and I love it... But what actually was the artifact in the ritual? I understand the purpose of the white lilies (The King in Yellow), but what was actually happening there? Something to do with the red eye changing things maybe? Is it a happier ending, or is it letting go? I'm too smooth brained, but I love it nonetheless.
>>3905820I do think it's the happiest ending possible. With the King in Yellow references in mind it seems Elster was able to suspend Ariane and herself in their happiest moments (the dancing), in some kind of stasis/purgatory-like state. Perhaps the artifact was some kind of control/manipulation device for the red eye, but there's tons of other speculations on that so there's no clear cut answer there.

Finally finished this game, reminded me a lot of Seabed. It hit me with the same kind of depression too.It felt like Arianne's fate was very similar to Takako's, both being this sort of product of their lovers mind stuck in limbo until the main character is able to move on.With the main differences being obviously that Takako got a nice fantasy place whereas Arianne was endlessly suffering and it actually was able to affect reality to some unknown extent.

>>3879025How do they have sex

>>4042861I never understood who the fuck Lilith and Alina were
>>4048949Alina was just some random Eusan Nation soldier stationed on Vineta at some point in the past. She died on Vineta (since we know the only two survivors of 5th Company Unit 12 are Lilith Itou and Rebecca Liang). Her uncanny resemblance to Ariane is pure coincidence. She serves several narrative purposes: to reinforce the game's running theme of synchronicity (i.e. things having the appearance of being related when they aren't), to make Ariane consider how her life could have been different had she taken a different path, and to make the Elster-Lilith connection more obvious. The Alina Elster is chasing at the beginning of the game is not real but some kind of projection conjured by Ariane, representing an alternate future where Ariane went to Sierpinski instead of enlisting in the Penrose program. Speaking of, Lilith Itou (or whoever the person next to Alina in the photograph is; some people think she's Anna Huang but it doesn't really matter) was also a Nation soldier stationed on Vineta, of which she was a native as evidenced by Elster's Vinetan accent. She may or may not have been a distant relative of the Itou twins since they are also from Vineta. It's implied that Lilith and Alina were very close, if not lovers. Lilith became the neural blueprint for every LSTR unit, and her memories of Alina are why our Elster thinks she is searching for Alina and not Ariane.
>>4049018>some kind of projection conjured by ArianeI generally believe this too but it's confusing that she seems to actually have Alina's memories and is slowly overwritten by Ariane the same way Falke is by Elster. Maybe they're constructed memories or she's borrowing Elster's gestalt memories of Alina or something.>our Elster thinks she is searching for Alina I like that this is technically Ariane's fault for tl;dr'ing her orders.>To avoid resurfacing of Gestalt memories, do not show or give the Elster unit photographs, especially of soldiers during the war. Do not show the Elster unit movies, or let it listen to music. Do not try to befriend the Elster unit.
>>4049032She didn't TL;DR them, when you find them in the flashback, they're not even open. She literally didn't read the fucking manual.

Never figured why people though alina/lilith were lovers beyond being in a photo together>>4059145Yuri retweets ecchi all the timeI mean unless you think elster and ariane just stopped at kissing
>>4064475I guess it's thematic, with Lilith being Elster's gestalt and Alina being an aspirational figure as well as doppelganger to Ariane. It's the romantic notion similar to a lovers' reincarnation. At the very least they were close, which explains why Elster was so determined to find Alina when she was struggling with her memories. However Lilith starts a family of her own so that could be evidence against their relationship.
>>4064524>Lilith starts a family of her own so that could be evidence against their relationshipMaybe I'm extremely dumb, but I thought Alina had died before that happened. There were 8 people in their unit, 6 graves, and one of them (Rebecca Liang) was in the same medical database as the Itou twins, so she must've survived along with Lilith. Though on the other hand, it doesn't make much sense for the photo of Lilith and Alina to be taken after the burial.
>>4064524>>4064696When the patch came out, the email from Itou's bookstore was changed to 'Anja Itou' so Lilith's survival is unlikely, especially since Vineta was nuked. Alina may have actually been at Serpinski, as she has a worker ID there, but she remembers an elster unit, and so does Adler, but he also knows they never got one (Despite requesting one for geological work). Bonus points, if you die before the Mynah boss fight, the bsod reads 'LSTR-S2301'I kinda like the lovers theory but I struggle for evidence.
>>4064524I will note the Lovers tarot implies things.Lot of ambiguity and conflicting info in this game though.
>>4064762>When the patch came out, the email from Itou's bookstore was changed to 'Anja Itou' so Lilith's survival is unlikely, especially since Vineta was nuked.Huh. Now that I look at >>4064696 again, it does seem like this person isn't Lilith. Maybe it's Rebecca. The hair color seems to match.

>>4064805Don't talk shit about Ariane, she's perfect
>>4064762>>4064769We don't know exactly how the Replika creation process works, but presumably Lilith had to survive long enough so that she could become the neural blueprint for LSTR units. Whether or not the process killed her is debatable, but the evidence still points to the only two survivors of that unit being Rebecca and Lilith. IIRC, that scene with the graves is a part of a series of quick flashbacks, most if not all involving Lilith, so I don't think it's Rebecca. The hair color might just be due to the shadingAnd if that's the case then the Alina in the notes and on the ID card can't be the actual Alina Seo but some kind of bioresonance projection made by Ariane like Isa. See >>4049018
>>4064850Sadly in all my ...research? I've found a few theories that all seem to make sense but all have some contradicting piece that doesn't fit. It feels intentional. Like there's glaring gaps, or multiple conflicting accounts. I'm not sure what to personally believe. As for the flashback, that stuff is labelled 'fakeout cutscene' and has interesting filenames. I wonder if I prefer guessing to answers, and the fact the story got changed several times complicates matters; Isa used to look and act a lot different. As for the pass, Alina's bandages match up wtih Ariane's later. Originally Isa was meant to turn into Ariane as well, with a cutscene having her hair go white, to infer she was accidentally turning everyone into herself.Personally I like the pet theory that Alina is another version of Ariane in a cycle, but..
>>4064850>We don't know exactly how the Replika creation process works, but presumably Lilith had to survive long enough so that she could become the neural blueprint for LSTR units. Whether or not the process killed her is debatable, but the evidence still points to the only two survivors of that unit being Rebecca and Lilith. There's no real timeline for anything, but since the repository with her neural pattern was also on Vineta when it got nuked, it's possible that she survived just long enough to serve as as a prototype for the first few LSTR units and then just never made it back from there. The graves also seem to have been placed after the nuke, judging by all the water. Unless the repository was created after the planet was destroyed, but that doesn't make much sense. >>4064916Times like these I wish the creators would just come out and explain what they were going for. I've seen too many people give up on trying to make head or tail of the story and chalk it up to it just being a dream, and I can't even really blame them.
>>4064916>Alina turns into ArianneMaybe Arianne is also somehow the Falke and by extension the Empress.
Interesting filenames, the woman staring at the flying white 'stars' is named flugzeug. She appears in another called 'Maedchen'. The falling 'star'/nuke is 'der stern', and the mushroom cloud is 'wolke'. >>4064965Answers are rarely satisfying, sadly. Lilith Itou might be a red herring, but Anna seems like a complete sideways in bearing. Conflicting info.>>4064966it's a hard theory. My conclusion is everything is teased and played with, but all the theories contradict and all of them have at least one conflicting piece. Given how much unreliability is going on for obvious reasons, I don't think a 'definite' explanation is possible, but I honestly enjoy how many different versions people came with. Not sure if the idea of Alina/Lilith - Ariane/elster being lovers bound through cycles is adorable or terrifying. I just wish there was more evidence.
Fuck it, enough sad theory, back to the yuriposting.
>>4064965>the smolest of KLBR's beside a FLKR unitThis is bliss. Now I fully understand the term cute-aggression.
Theorizing about Signalis is like waking from a dream, looking back and realizing less and less of it makes any sense. It feels as though any unified theory of this story is bound to be full of holes except for the unsatisfying and reductionist "it was all just a dream" explanations. Maybe the simpler answer to the question of why much of the story doesn't make sense is that it isn't supposed to. One of the themes of the game is pareidolia, and perhaps the point is that trying to make sense of all the murky and incongruous details is an exercise in madness, like trying to find messages in butterfly wings.Ultimately the only thing I'm certain of is that Ariane and Elster loved each other.

>>3886310Alina served along Elster's Gestalt. That person was then used as a template to make LSTR replikas, something which probably takes time by itself. Then enough time passed that the neural pattern data-bank was destroyed and LSTR units were scarce enough that they had to use a decommissioned one (and not a "fresh" one) to become the new template.I really, really doubt that Alina Seo was a spry chicken by then. Not only that, people seem to die from overwork and pulmonary diseases pretty fast in Eusan. All that to say that Alina would be, by the time Ariane joined the Penrose program, most likely in her forties if not long dead, and I'm having a hard time to believe any theory that includes Alina "becoming Ariane".
>>3894600>>3895010She's a lot of things. She's embodying Ariane, being the bed-ridden bioresonnant. She's also becoming Elster, whose neural pattern is overwriting hers. And she's an avatar of the Eusan regime, being based on its leader and the top shot at Sierpinski.I think that being a strong bionresonnant unit, she can tap into Ariane's signal enough to know that she's in no condition to dance and just wants to die, and that knowlegde crushes any desire to "rescue" Ariane. So she's living Ariane's fantasy of just... getting to sleep through the whole thing. Also it fits that as the Eusan personnification, she's getting in the way of Ariane/Elster's goals and is staking claim to Elster's memories, just like Eusan took her Gestalt's neural pattern and turned it into a product to mass produce replikas.
The game got an update, the inventory can be increased and some QoL.
>>4080329>increased inventoryI guess game-journalists can now play the game. They flashlight/eye modules not taking inventory space makes good sense though, might have to replay again soon.
The update also added a new secret room to the final hallway before Falke. If you read Adler's last note then backtrack, you can enter a version of Adler's study with three diaries covering the same dates. One of them was already in the game, where Adler remembers speaking to an LSTR unit despite one not being on or requisitioned to Sierpinski. In the second, an LSTR is ordered to the facility but never arrives due to delays. In the third, the LSTR is delivered successfully. There's also a mine survey team roster which lists LSTR-S2301 as a member.I think this is implying that the Elster we play as is the LSTR who was shipped to Sierpinski but was delayed, and along the way she got hit with the Ariane bioresonance mind whammy and merged with LSTR-512's memories.
>>4080329>needing more than 6 slotsLiterally just walk away, enemies are not real, they can't hurt you.
>>4080375I'll say this, having the photo-module take a precious slot in a game that's on platforms that all have their own screenshot feature was a dumb idea.>>4080361That's VERY cool for the people who interpret Sierpinski as being an actual real place.
>>4080458>I'll say this, having the photo-module take a precious slot in a game that's on platforms that all have their own screenshot feature was a dumb idea.Apparently it's a thing that's actually useful if you're streaming the game or something?
>>4080458I filled the module with all pics of Ariane. I thought it was funny. Everything that's in Elster's head is Ariane
>>4080476Promise syndrome.Instead of brain there is Ariane.
>>4081578Did an update remove some posters or something? The guide I'm using says there's various posters showing off the Replika's and such, but I haven't seen any in the rooms specified.
>>4081671I also used a guide that made allusions to posters and item pick-ups that weren't there, and that was before the last update.
>>4081671Got any examples? I have an older version of the game, so I can check it out.
>>4081725From the Protektors area:The STAR S poster in the Star dormThe STCR poster in the STCR dorm/Cleaning room ( the Buyan poster is still there, however). The ARAR poster in its dormThe Hospital area also has an ARAR poster missing from the store room (this was the first one I noticed missing)
>>4081745Huh. Somehow most of my saves ended up being either from Nowhere or Rotfront, so I don't have an easy way to check the first three, but the hospital poster is present in my version. I wonder what was the reasoning behind removing them. All of the Replika posters are entirely cosmetic, as far as I remember.
>>4081751Would be pretty meta for them to slightly move things around between updates.
>>4081815If they just moved the posters instead of removing them, I don't mind, but it'd be annoying for them to be removed from the game entirely. That signed STAR poster is cute, imagine being the kind of dork who would keep something like this.
did the update add any lore or /u/
>>4081671The console versions don't have some posters in them. The posters were actually added some time later in development, after the game's console versions were sent in for certification, probably. The Steam and Humble versions are the only ones to have all the posters iirc.>>4082109No /u/ but we get some more tidbits of backstory on Lilith/Anna/Ur-Elster and ARA is a living, not corrupted replika in the game now.
>>4082928>ARA is a living, not corrupted replika in the game nowDamn, they finally let her out of the stall.
>>4092692Part 2
>>4094225They eat and they have toilets so they definitely have some kind of hole.
>>4094225>>4094237They are not ment to reproduce, so everything they feel is not driven by primitive biology, its genuine.
>>4094241That's a given in yuri
Now that the thread's in freefall and the 1 year anniversary's come and gone, I just want to say I'm thankful for the passive therapy of any Signalis thread and I'll see you faggots at the inevitable 2nd year anniversary thread in a year.
>>4095585New thread when Signalis Kart comes out
>>4100966Ariane is kinky as hell.
Well I beat the game for a second time and got the promise ending, which I guess is the most positive one out of the bunch(?)The artifact ending with the lily was weird and I don't get what that rainbow crystal was at the end but the girls were dancing for a bit so it's also somewhat positive, maybe even better but it's all so vague and weird that I just don't know.As I sit here with tears in my eyes I curse the devs for making such a tragic story but I also know that I'll never forget Signalis because of how painful it is, it's a sort of fulfilling pain and I can't really explain it.I guess the moral of the story is that communism is bad. Also I wish people would draw Elster being naked with Ariane too, I'm pretty sure her uniform isn't attached to her body.
>>4102709>I guess the moral of the story is that communism is bad.How was that your takeaway?
>>4102717If no communism Ariane wouldn't have been shoved into a spaceship to go on a suicide mission and get space cancer. The only positive is that she met Elster but I'm a firm believer in the red string of fate and I know they would have met under other circumstances in a better world.
>>4102720there is no moral, it's just a cruel tale of pain, death and sadness and the only thing that can offer even the tiniest glint of fleeting light is lesbians
>>4102725Actually if you want a moral it's that love is more important than all the bullshit and you should shoot all your enemies for your girlfriend's sake.
>>4102720>shovedDidn't she volunteer because she was bullied at anime high school
>>4102720>I know they would have met under other circumstances in a better worldLSTR units are specifically manufactured for those kinds of missions. It's not impossible they could've met under different circumstances, but unlikely. And even trapped with literally only Elster for company, it still took Ariane like a year to make a move, so just briefly crossing paths with her at a Replika-manufacturing plant or something wouldn't have cut it. >>4102727And sometimes love requires you to leave your PC running for 14 hours to get the ending you want because you didn't shoot enough enemies for your girlfriend's sake.
>>4102709The game seems to imply that bioresonance not under strict control of the central authority (be that the Great Revolutionary for the Nation or whatever power grips the Empire after the great empress death) is percieved as an existential threat to the state during an endless and all-consuming war, since it can shape planets and power FTL travel (the Penrose has travelled unusually far for the level of technology shown in the game) and much more. This means that Ariane is not only a deviant to societal norms, but an uncontrollable and dangerous spring of bioresonance outside the state monopoly. Thus her complete alienation from everyone around her and the initial connection with LSTR-512, with Ariane seeing in Elster a kindred soul. War and uncaring hierarchy of a militarized state are at fault here for crushing the human soul, yet even in these conditions love can still bloom and flourish. Also, unless you really like exposed plastic and alloy bones and mechanical components, the only human-like feature of replikas is their face. At most they have an imitation of human breasts on the chestplate.
>>4103010It's not like Ariane was chucked into space because she was a deviant though. She volunteered, and the Penrose program had generic pre-made messages for all ships that didn't manage to find livable planets in 3000 cycles, not just the ones manned by bioresonating dykes.
>>4103010No, they have boobs and I refuse to believe otherwise. You can't scare me with your anti-boob propaganda.
>>4103126>No, they have boobs and I refuse to believe otherwise.
>>4103218If you would tare the flesh off a Gestalt torso, it would look the similar.
>>4103253You can see on the piece of the chestplate that's still intact and right under it that there isn't any boobage there. It goes from the plate straight to the rib cage.
>>4103218>>4103126Don't worry, there were probably civilian model chestplates she could have installed to simulate realistic boobs.
So they just took the Gestalt/Replica(nt) nomenclature straight from NieR
>>4103260The under layer could have been torn off in one piece, leaving only the right side of the casing there.
>>4103293I admire your dedication to seeing boob potential everywhere.
