I've heard people say that the sci-fi twist came about because Inori-sensei wanted to write a different sci-fi story but that didn't work out, but I haven't managed to actually find any evidence of this. Does anyone know if this is anything more than a rumor?

The final arc the anime is going to cover will address Rae's whole thing about Only Wanting Claire To Be Happy and does so by introducing a new female revival instead involving Thane, so maybe it'll get minor points for that. Doing a little digging it seems Inori did a rewrite of it so it could be submitted to a light novel contest but as part of the rules they couldn't have the translation up. Original humanity led themselves to extinction. OG Rei and Claire built the loop system which took human souls, stored them into quantum data, and then they let humanity go extinct. I think about this too sometimes, though there are some comments Inori has made saying as much. Closest things to numbers we can see easily is stuff like twitter followers for the promotional accounts. Still not the best but I feel like an account posting only in Japanese about merch and events you can only get in Japan probably as more JP accounts following it than EN or otherwise.

So I was looking at the paperback volume 3 description, and I think Ichijinsha actually split the original volume 2 into two so the new volume 2 has the Manaria, Beach, and Yuu arcs and the new volume 3 has all the revolution part.
Which I think fit better with She is so Cheeky for a Commoner (as it has 3 volumes).
I wonder if there is a chance that maybe a modified Part 2 can happen in the future (maybe now after Inori's new story been published) and that is the reason why Ichijinsha split volume 2 and doesn't release anymore volumes yet?

The anime is more fun than I thought it'd be and it motivated me to read the source. I'm on the first wn volume. I gotta say, it's pretty nice - I went straight to the part where Manaria comes and skipped the chapters about Rei's first love because I think that would piss me off. So it's quite the nice experience all in all. I like some takes that she has like this: 'The phrase “sex doesn’t matter” said often in creative works isn’t actually realistic.'
It does feel like a cope for the authors that use it or a way to help skittish readers more comfortable with a gay story.

That part was honestly some of my favorite moments in the LN. It was nice to see her act like a normal human being instead of screeching about Claire every five seconds. Of course, it went completely stupid at the end and ruined every bit of emotional buildup it gained, but that's par for the course for this series.

No, Rae is clearly sympathetic and the parallel of "love that can't be realized because of society" is intentional, esp. if you consider Rei's own backstory in the novels. The shitty burger dub is literally an attempt at rewriting her character.

I don't give a flying fuck about Lambert, but changing one of the most endearing qualities of Rei - the fact that she's willing to consider things coded as "bad" by society by their own genuine merits and faults - is fucking retarded. Her own experiences made her that way and one could say it's the entire reason she liked Claire in the first place, as villainesses are "meant" to be disliked.

If you don't believe me, even in the later chapters of the novel, Lene comes back and Rei is really happy things are working out well for her and her brother. Regardless of how you feel about it, it's retarded to rewrite the story otherwise. Inori is clearly ok with incest anyway considering they teased Mei/Alea in one of the side chapters.

It's not Rae's character is the issue it's the writing that's tone deaf with pushing its "love is blind" message so it just comes off as sanctimonious and preachy. Then again the writer is a TIM and has no concept of societal oppression that actual lesbians experience. If this was written by a real woman, the scenario would have instead been about literally ANYTHING ELSE like a couple involving a noble and commoner who can't love freely because of societal pressures, or even an age-gap couple, or SOMETHING which would have still showcased Rae's character as someone who questions societal norms and accepts different forms of love. I normally don't care if there's incest in a work but also trying to be serious and making moral standpoint in a trashy tropey anime story at the same time seems so egregious and inappropriate.
