Better than Dark Souls
>>
>>423944495
Nah. Way better than Bloodborne tho
>>
Literally Neil Blomkapf: the game.
>>
>>423944547
It's got deeper systems than bloodborne. That's for sure. Shame it only has 5 bosses.
>>
>>423945096
I’m pretty sure there’s more than 5.

There’s that Securitybot/metal gear at the start, then there’s the flying bot with the flamethrowers, then there’s the Creo World Cat, then there’s the Black Cerberus dude who fights with a metal gear, then there’s the Production Assemby bot boss, and then there’s the final boss (not sure about the final boss as I haven’t finished the game yet but I’m at the Nucleus now).
>>
>>423944495
its too linear and has much less content than dark souls
>>
>>423944495
the combat in this game is hilariously boring
>>
>>423945096
After DS remaster on switch do you think there's a chance I'll finally get to play bloodborne?
>>
>>423945578
>implying slide boosto uppercutting shit ever gets old
>>
>>423944495
It was certainly an improvement over LotF and have hope that this was a redemption arc for Deck13 and they'll continue to improve. While I didn't enjoy it as much as Souls, I did enjoy it for what it is.

>>423945467
Sorry anon, that's all the games got. The final boss is really well done though compared to the others
>>
>>423946514
Then it’s 6 total!

I’m ok with that. I’m already starting to get exhausted here at the Nucleus so I’m glad it’s wrapping up. I think this kind of game tends to be better if it’s shorter since you can really get burned out from playing and if you take a long break it’s really hard to get back into it since you forget all the paths.
>>
>>423944495
Strongly disagree. Very cool design and aesthetics tho.

While it's a huge improvement over Lords of the Fallen and a worthy entrance in the genre, I still think the game had some issues here and there.
Stunns are pretty janky. You'd think a stunned enemy would actually take a second before attacking again, but sometimes it only interrupts them and they can start again immediately.
And then there's some really poorly designed attacks. Like attacking one of those 3 legged stalker robots from behind gets you pretty much instakilled in a heartbeat, because everytime you're behind one, it instantly does an attack with zero wind-up ridiculously high damage and it's faster than any move you could possibly input in that situation.
The blob creatures in nucleus as well as the bosses are kind of the epitome of the game's shortcomings in combat design. Fighting regular human-sized enemies is fun though.
Outside of that, the setting is cool, the graphics are decent, gameplay feel is largely good, level design is fantastic. It's a solid game. Even if the story is a bit needlessly obtuse towards the end.
>>
>>423947586
I forgot to mention that the upgrade system was fucking amazing. Having to weigh more and different kinds of estus against passive powerups and heavier armor pieces and tweaking that stuff was great.
>>
>>423947586
you are supposed to use the jump and duck gimmick with the welders the follow up attack after one of those ignores the front armor
>>
I still can’t figure out what stability does in this game.

Is low stability better or is high stability better?

Oh right, that mechanic. I tried to use it once or twice, deemed it stupid and beat the game without ever using it ever.
Killed welding robots by deploying the drone and circle strafing until they got hit in the back by it.
>>
Man, I should pick this up, seeing how 2 is a thing now.
Speaking of:
>Surge 2 boss
>stumbled upon seemingly random
>no real arena to fight in, just a piece of wood full of clutter and shit
>completely level the area during the fight

Has Dark Souls done this at some point?
>>
>>423948020
>estus
this game isnt dark souls you fucking retard
>>
>>423944495
I played the surge recently and while I probably like it more than most people who played it I gotta disagree with you here
The most annoying thing for me about the surge is the MASSIVE input delay
Whether you use small weapons or large weapon, whether you're locked on in defensive stance or just walking around it always takes far too long until your button inputs are turned into actions
You see an enemy annoucing its attack so you dodge and even if your timing is relatively good you still get hit because the time it takes to actually move your character is so damn long
And it gets even worse when you're in a combo, I'm not 100% sure about this but there seems to be input queuing so if you're doing a combo and an enemy announces its attack you can't dodge at all 50% of the time because the game already queued another attack into your combo which is uninterruptable for yourself

That really is my biggest issue with the game and if we ignore that for a moment then the surge is the best "Souls clone" out there for sure
Considering that it was made by the same people as Lords of the Fallen which was a massive pile of shit we can actually hope to get a game that's up to par with From soft quality in the near future
>>
>>423949076
One thing Dark Souls hasn’t done that The Surge did is have first person rollercoaster experience. Yahoooooooo
>>

>>
>>423948410

>>
>>423944495
I played dark souls on and this thing. Honestly, this was may more addicting. I liked the gamplay way more than DS. If the story had more depth and a bit more variety in the level design, it would easily be a very serious opponent to DS.

They saw that people loved the shortcuts there were in the first Dark Souls and took it to its logical conclusion. Meanwhile Dark Souls stopped doing shortcuts almost entirely.

>>
>>423945582
Don't presume liking DS will mean you'll like BB. I can see it's a quality game but it's not my thing, it's held back by being too similar in the wrong way and it also influenced Souls 3 in a bad way. DeS is the better kind of fast Souls.
>>
>>423953084
If you have the Creo World DLC (I think it’s an essential DLC btw) there’s a two more bros.
>>
>>423944495
I like them both about the same, but each fills a different niche. The Surge lets me carve up enemies to collect their gear sets and weapons, is less exploration-based, and has satisfyingly weight to its combat. Dark Souls is more about exploring a sprawling world past its prime, piecing the background together through set pieces, treasure placement, and contextual clues, and going toe-to-toe against fearsome creatures and foes.

>>423952356
I heard a lot of people complain that the game was too mazelike and confusing, which I never really saw, myself. You quickly figure out where each path leads, and once you unlock the latest path, you don't have much reason to pass through old paths unless you really want to farm for specific gear. Then again, I also heard a lot of complaints about how hard enemies are, how useless blocking is, and how useless shortcuts are, so I take it with a grain of salt.

This game has some blatant mistakes (no different movesets for weapons sans a rare few, too many humanoid bosses, low enemy variety in general) but the level design is genius and I've still enjoyed my time with it a lot. I feel like if they can improve with 2 it's gonna potentially be a great game.

The first one takes a bit of work to get used to, especially if you're new to the game and still in the mindset of a different action game. Also, you're early on, so your armor is shit, you don't have a lot of healing, you do poor damage, and you chew though your stamina quickly when you attack or dodge.

Strike its legs until it fires off the rockets, stand near it so it gets hit by them, and then hammer it while its down.
>>
>>423957916
how?
>>
>>423957916
You mean the metal gear? Just walk through its legs.
When it does its stomp, hit the leg it's standing on to knock it down. Then attack its weak spot for massive damage.
If you're having trouble with the game in general, you aren't slide attacking enough. Slide attacks are our lord and saviour. All hail the slide attacks.
>>
>>423958527
dont do this. you get the best weapon in the game by making sure its rockets don't hit it
>>
>>423959015
>you get the best weapon in the game by making sure its rockets don't hit it
Did this by accident. Never thought of making the rockets hit the thing itself. Weapon is fucking neat and I used it almost all game. I was surprised they gave me something so good so early, especially as I got farther into the game. Makes sense now.
>>
>>423959015
If he can't beat it, he's not getting the regular Imperator, much less the V2.

>>
>>423959446
you get the same weapon if you beat the boss the easy way, but it does a bit less damage and doesn't have the cool visual effects the v2 does
>>
>>423957121
Men of culture appreciate the Elite Hazmat gear.
>>
>>423959783
The standard imperator lacks the elemental damage and the improved damage scaling of the V2, though. The easy way to get it is to wait for the boss to try to stomp on you, and whack the leg it's still standing on to topple it.

literally the surge is basically Clunkiness: The Game. The bosses are slow and easy to fight (lets be honest) enemies seem to fuck you hard until you find out the timing of their moves and then you can autistically clear levels. I beat the surge like a month ago and ive been a souls fan for a long time. UNLIKE bloodborn, in the surge you tend to use only two kinds of weapons because of a weapon skill stat (lame) and you basically pick the best weapon in each class since they're the coolest and most weapon aesthetics are limited to sharp and big machine thing. literally nothing creative, maybe the robot hands are cool but your basically limited to double blade guy, big flaming sword guy, or guy with staff.
characters suck and feel like they're forced into the game with no context. the story has holes and doesn't make sense some times. dont forget that your entire environment is abandoned office and metal corridors.
i give it 2/5 because the gameplay honestly isn't bad but this game feels like your just trying to time your input with the delay from your characters clunky wind up. fuck this shit i wasted my time

Actually cool shit, reasons why you should play the game and things it actually does better than Souls shit:

-you can either equip only one armor part or, by keeping the button pressed, equip the armor part and all other respective parts. something almost no other game gets right.

-you can check all upgrade level stats of your weapons any time and on this decide if they are even worth it.

-you can level gear up all way to the max level immediately if you have the required materials and don't have to go through the other levels first. this way there is no piss easy but time-consuming grinding of shitty materials. that's absolutely amazing. monster hunter can and should learn from this. fuck those boring low rank quests i had to do at rank 999.

-all the drone abilities are helpful somewhere and fun. the shield, the projectiles to lure enemies, the one that immobilizes them and so on. especially in souls 3 you can ignore all the magic shit and aren't missing out.
>>
>>423963492
-the whole augment system is more complex and way more fun than the shitty rings in souls. kinda its own mini game comparable with monster hunter decoration.
-counter attacks and backstabs are there but they aren't shitty mini "cutscenes". gameplay is not interrupted.
-parrying is not that hard to pull off and not that risky which is good. it's almost useless for pve in dark souls because the window is so small (otherwise it would be overpowered in pvp).
-jumping is more intuitive, less invisible walls, can jump almost everything, especially fucking fences and take on levels the way you like.
-there is perfect timing for every attack for when to combo into next attack for a stamina bonus. every weapon really feels unique and has to be mastered.
-crafting and loot system is reasonable. there aren't enemies that randomly drop certain types of "chunk". you can clearly see what an enemy will drop.
-full sets actually have unique skills which means there often is no "better or worse" and it adds personality to every set.
-high replayability with hidden stuff everywhere you couldn't make use of or new doors to enter in the new game+
>>
How can it be better than Dork Souls if its the same shit?

lock on
strafe
MUH HARD

goddamn braindead games
>>
>>423963695
>t. died to asylum demon
>>
>>423963658
-actually comfortable to play, no anti-fun autismo shit for children that doesn't respect an adult life style. you can pause the game any time and also store your "souls".
-redpilled. guy behind all this shit is a (((berg))) and this marketer you hear and see everywhere in the game is a cliché multiculturalism propaganda poster boy. you're forced to play a white man, even though it's basically an avatar.
-fresh for this genre, not another medieval game with wyverns.
-different body parts and hitzones (cutting limbs à la monster hunter for better droprates and advantages). you either target blue body parts (no armor) for a damage bonus or orange body parts (armored) for a 100% scrap metal droprate for this armor piece.
-positioning actually somewhat matters for bosses, especially because they are actually big and not just guys with swords.
-not overly focussing on iframes.
-interconnected, complex world with many shortcuts.
-okish sidequests and characters (who actually move their mouths) for this type of game.
