Kick club: Decent platformer "kick the ball into enemies" game, I just thought it was boring though.

Avianos: It's sorta like card game Civ 5? You choose a god from 3 out of 5 and they give you resources, spend resources, or raise units, and you want to capture stuff. I kinda liked it, but I'll save it for way later, probably, I'm not gripped.

Mooncat: Wtf I played this whole game to the end, the controls are weird-ish, but honestly fine, I liked the weird stuff I kept finding and the controls grew on me. Being my only gold cart so far and the game said I got 1 of 3 eggs, I'll definitely play it again.

Bushido ball: Kind of like pong, but with samurai gimmicks. I beat 2 competitors in the tournament and dipped, and I'm not excited to go back basically.

Block Koala: Sokoban but with numbered blocks. Only blocks in descending or equal order can be pushed, so you can push a chain of 5-4-3-2 blocks in a row, but not a chain of 2-3 blocks. Honestly, I'm not interested in sokoban, I don't think I'll go back.

Camoflage: Sort of linear puzzle game where you change your color to pass one area, which allows you to get a color to pass another area, and repeat. It's ok, but I dont think I'll go back.

Campanella: Hey it's the helicopter game from highschool!!! but it's kinda boring and I don't want to play it.

Golfaria: Holy crap legend of zelda but you're a golf ball, and it's open world. I really like it, favorited it, and I'm going back to it for sure.

The great bell race: It's campanella but as a racing game, but I dont really like campanella, so I sorta snooze on it.

Warptank: It's VVVVVV but you're a tank and can't actually jump except by teleporting to another wall. I kinda liked it ngl.

20/50.

is every game in this pretty difficult or am I nuts? Barbuta I cherried since it's not so much about reflexes or anything, just planning
Bug Hunter, Ninpek and Paint Chase are all quite challenging, to me at least. Ninpek especially

Waldorf's Journey: It's fucking jump king, I hate jump king. I dont wanna go back to it.

Porgy: This might be the first game that looks like it was created for SNES rather than NES. Underwater exploration game, you explore as far as you can with your remaining fuel and then go back to restock. there are underwater fuel tanks which can extend your fuel supply permanently. I kinda liked it honestly.

Onion Delivery: Chaotic top down GTA driving simulator where you have to get to 5 places every day, and every day things get more chaotic and more crazy shit happens. It's fine honestly, I kinda liked it.

Caramel Caramel: It's life force(2d space shooter), I don't really care for these kind of games at all.

Party House: It's kinda like a card game, you build a deck of partygoers, pull one card per click, and when you end the party/fill your board up you get points for each. Some goers create trouble, get too much and that round is invalidated. I really liked it, favorite it, and I'll go back to it.

25/50, halfway through, some nice games so far, I like mortol, velgress, warp tank, mooncat, golfaria, porgy, and devilition.

Hot Foot: It's 2v2 dodgeball basically. I don't want to play it.

Divers: It's a diving exploration game with RPGmaker combat... I like it, I'm interested to see what they'll do with it, favorited it and I'll go back to it.

Train Heist: Decent stealth game where entering the line of sight of an enemy instantly kills you. It's kinda nice, I guess.

Vainger: If I had a nickel for every time there was a VVVVVV-like game in this compilation, I'd have two nickels. It's basically metroid but you can reverse gravity on yourself all the time, it's fun.

The magic rod is basically just a better weapon than the base sword since it has range. The key goes to the top of the map, you need the necklace to activate all the moving platforms
>>
>>689448259
magic rod is just for attacking. key is used 'upstairs', the first screen outside the starting room to the left, you'll need the necklace first. if you haven't found the necklace, look for a chest you probably keep going past

>>
>>689448957
You can take your time and plan out a route. The key thing to remember is that every three enemies you kill is +1 so every explosion try and kill an enemy, try and crush an enemy every block, etc. You can also chain abilities together and you're invincible when parachuting so you can abuse the hell out of that.
>>
>>689449467
I would just say sometimes it's best to evade rather than try to kill everything even if you've just died and have powered down shurikans I wouldn't bother trying to kill stuff until it feels safe to do, I tend to hang out on the upper most platform for the whole run as dropping down when needed is quicker than going up. Make sure you go for all the balloons though, I'm not sure exactly what triggers them to appear but you get a 1up for each one so they're a must.
>>
>>689448023
Pingolf: It's a 2d golf game with the gimmick that levels have a lot of pinball pins everywhere. I kinda liked it, don't know when I would play it though.

Mortol 2: This game is an awesome concept, you get 99 lives and can pick any of 5 characters with it, and you can sacrifice a character to do something specific with it like make a platform, a teleporter, or bomb something, it's so complex and unique. Probably the best game in the list so far.

Fist Hell: It's every 2d beat-em-up ever. I don't really care for it at all.

Overbold: Double or nothing! You are in a battle arena and have to kill enemies, you get money after every combat. Before a combat, you can buy items which make you hit harder or have more HP, and you can add more enemies to get more money, it's nice.

Campanella 2: I do not like campanella. This is campanella but made into more of an exploration game, which is nice, but I'm still not too big on it.

Hyper Contender: Simple platform fightan game. I kinda liked it and got to level 8 on my first try, even if it's kinda chaotic and the knockback feels like playing spelunky.

Valbrace: Amazing game, actually, it might as well be punchout meets pathways into darkness, and I loved it, so much exploration, so much fun styling on enemies, favorite and will finish it quickly I think.

Rakshasa: Indian contra, with the gimmick being that if you get hit, your soul has to play a bullet hell collect-all-items minigame to revive you. If your soul gets hit in this minigame, it's over. Also, the more you die the more enemies spawn in this minigame. I liked it, there were some cool powerups, don't know when I would play it though.

Star Waspit: Just a regular space shooter with the gimmick being that if you collect powerups in a certain order, you activate a certain effect. For example, EGG is different than GEG. I wasn't very impressed with it ngl.

Grimstone: It's final fantasy, complete with open world and everything, I love these sort of games but I think I am forced to save it for way later. Favorite it and come back ngl.

Lords of Diskonia: Holy crap it's marbles!!! Basically, you launch your own pins into enemies to damage them, during your turn ALL pin collisions between you and the enemy deals damage to the enemy, and vice versa during their turns. There's also a campaign/stages where you explore a map to upgrade your marble deck. It's pretty cool.

Night Manor: I gotta be honest, I'm gonna give this one a pass, chief, the warning label at the start is scary and this game looks like it could be horror.

Elfazar's hat: 2d top down shooter with the gimmick that cards you get can create a special powerup depending on what you collected. I wasn't very gripped honestly.

Pilot Quest: An idle game? In the 1980s???? Basically the game is an idle-ish game where you wait for your hunter and moon tree to generate resources that you use to explore the wild zone(to get more materials and resources) and to build your homebase, respectively. It's alright, I don't like idling games though.

Mini and Max: It's sort of a metroidvania, you can shrink yourself down to explore the shelves in your house, and if you stand on top of the shelves in bigmode, you can shrink down to them in smallmode, and it opens up some non linear exploration. I kinda like it.

45/50, we're at the home stretch.

going chronologically instead of all over the place gives you the advantage of seeing the games progress in technology, ideas, what characters they use and which show up in other games, how the game sequels or spiritual successors evolve, as well as seeing the meta-narrative developer stuff progress with what developers do
slow and steady wins the race

Combat ants: I think I don't understand the game or something, cuz I don't know how to do anything other than control my own character and get others to follow SOMETIMES.

Quibble race: It's a snail racing betting game where you can spray salt on the other contestants for a chance to ruin them. I can understand the concept, but I dont want to play it ever honestly.

Seaside drive: It's heavy weapon deluxe by popcap games, holy crap. Anyway, it's pretty simplistic and I wasn't very thrilled with it, but it's cool I guess.

Campanella 3: Oh boy another campanella game, I sure am excited for- wait, this one DOESNT have helicopter controls, it's practically space harrier, it's pretty good. I'm into it, I can play it.

Cyber Owls: Probably the best game to cap the whole thing off. It's 4 games in one, one is metal gear MSX, one is a generic beat em up, one is an almost-rail shooter(dont know how to describe it), and one is a motorcycle chase shooter. It's very varied and each of the parts is good, it's pretty high quality ngl. Good game for sure.

The wide variety of monsters and effects presented in an oppressive density that would not be present in any castlevania or it's clones. It's like a mash up of castlevania and Ghosts and Goblins, which is wholly unique in its execution.

Top 5:

5) Mortol 2
4) Vainger
3) Golfaria
2) Velgress
1) Valbrace

Honorable mentions: Mooncat, Mortol 1

Bottom 5:

5) Hot foot
4) Kick club
3) Waldorf's Journey
2) Quibble Race
1) Combatants

I dont really have a bottom 5, I'm sorry, but the last 3 are guaranteed bottom 3

Gentlemen, I bring you a coffee map for the UFOsoft CLASSIC Campanella. Now you don't have to spend 16 lives finding it in C-7.
(enter the flower square to spawn the coffee; the warps skip you ahead three levels but are only there the first 10 seconds of the level. They're also invisible which is why I didn't show them after stage A)

It's fun. The game's really pure. You get good at moving around, and that's it, you can beat it.
My high score's 65400, see if you can beat it.

Yeah, that one little mechanic gives the game so much extra depth, it's really smart, especially since you still need to shoot the life balloon so it'll be easier or harder depending on when you spawn them (and you can choose when considering you ONLY gain score from pickups). Is there anywhere to check how long each game is, in terms of levels/stages? Just want to gauge how deep I've been getting, like how I've reached A-8 in Campanella twice now in like 20 minutes playing.
>>
>>689483351
I went all offense, they can't hit you if they die in one turn after all. Never bought or used a shield.
So for the start, I think that's 6 sticks. Then it's a matter of knowing the enemy's elemental weakness. You get useful items as you go, but for the final boss I had 5 tridents and a potion.
Took 7 hours, but a ton of that is just exploration moreso than combat.
>>
>>689484158
Campanella has 5 worlds with 10 stages each. They seem to like to make the number of stages 5, 25 or 50 (with some exceptions). Generally, if a game doesn't save your progress, you can usually beat it in 15 minutes.
>>
So, has anyone been trying to figure out the major influences for each game?
Like, Barbuta reminds me of Castle of Druaga mixed with this one other NES side scroller whose name I'm forgetting.
Mortol feels very lemmings influenced (probably my favorite game so far.)
Velgress reminds me of this one old computer game, sort of like Mighty Bomb Jack. I can't remember.

It's been a lot of fun trying to pick out the influences here.

No, because there are games that are legitimately bad and you'll end up getting burned if you force yourself to play them instead of trying the good ones.

>I just now realized that you are meant to use the rod with the lever.

Is that actually possible to do? Theres actually another easier way to hit the lever, but finding it is one of two BS things in the game.
1. To get to the boss you walk over the spikes to get to the ladder.
2. In the purple room on the right side with the two ladders and 1 green titan there is an invisible ladder up on one space that lets to go up, then back down to the right and wrap around to the switch on the left side.
>>
>>689498125
You want to actually slow down slightly since the floor only comes up when you move.
Also, get past the first level and buy the upgrade that slows the floor breakdown speed. It significantly slows the gameplay down.
I personally don't like the random generation in it, but it's kind of the name of the game for this type of arcade game.

There's gonna be games here that you're gonna consider shovelware tier, but there's no game that /v/ unanimously agrees is that. Most people dislike Zolgath, but I loved it. I know most people hate the Golf RPG too, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Not him but I think the randomness is kind of endearing
Starting a new run and figuring out which aliens are sentient this time around, how aggressive each non sentient alien is, how strong and tough they are, what happens when you kill them, which resources trigger which items and where each item is.

But a disclaimer is that if I don't see the boomerang or the nail gun within the first few areas I go to, I just die on purpose and restart. I don't want to go around not being able to kill anything.
>>
Holy fuck Rakshasa is brutal. Got to the second stage boss and I really dislike that if you at any point lose your power up anywhere further in the run, you might as well reset, which really goes against the whole idea of reviving on the spot
>>
>>689511479
The fun is in everyone jumping in on the first week playing different games while there's no walkthrough online yet, and hearing vague tips about games you haven't even played yet. By the time it comes out on switch, it'll all be on youtube and wikis.

>>689512663
You mean lives and game overs?

At least at the start, most games do. The second one seems like it can let you continue, but it's a roguelite type deal and you have to start from the beginning if you die. I found two that have save based progression so far, so you don't need to restart from the very beginning every time.

I've been playing magic garden all day and I can't even crack 100. I know the strategy, you get 6 at a time, stack up on potions then use 3 at once for score, but it's so hard dodging everything.

in-case you're somehow blind and retarded, you can see which way the blue blobs will move based on the way they look
>>
>>689512930
If you want gold and aren't worried about getting the cherry highscore, then it's even easier to just not stack shit and always go for potions. Sometimes you'll want to wait for them to turn blue or gold so that they kill mushrooms, but aside from that just grab potions and wreck shit.
The potions both make the enemies killable and also prevent any new ones from spawning, so with some practice it's not too difficult to have it so that the board stays nearly empty a lot of the time and you don't have a lot of shit to dodge. Horrible strategy for getting high scores, but it lets you see the ending.
I fucking hate Magic Garden. Least favorite game from the first row.
>>
>>689512930
are you going for gold? then get 2 gold potions to start wtih (so that 4 pinks are always spawning), then when you pick up potions from that point on, ignore blues and just pick up the pinks to essentially go infinite. getting a few golds at the start to up your max pink count is crucial. as for 20k points, yeah it takes skill, luck and good peripheral vision.

I didn't realize this until a while in, but if you hang on some of the menu screens for games it'll give you a few tips, or at the very least a demo of it being played
Magic Garden gives you a load of hints with text and everything, whereas Ninpek just shows someone playing kind of poorly

The Ninpek guy plays pretty decently. He does die at a weird place but I think that's just to show how the ghost works. I wish I'd seen that at some point cause it took me a long time to realize you could shoot as a ghost.

Now the Mortol demo guy, on the other hand... He fucking SUCKS.

I'll give you a small hint to get those 5 extra lives.
Besides the stone ritual, there is something else you can use to press buttons.
Also, every 3 kills you get an extra life so make sure every time you use a ritual you kill at the very least 1 enemy.

I only recently found out the ammo boxes in Mortol 2 are permanent, you can use them over and over, even in the same character, that's actually really great, you can put down an ammo box somewhere accessible and then keep going back to it.
